Can't play video by safari

Hi, I have some problem with safari. I hope can get some help. Before my system is 10.8, everything is great. After update to OS X(version 10.9), I can't play video by safari. Just told me to install flash, but it already installed. I can use Firefox play video online. I tried to restart and install again and again. But it's still not working. Could you tell me how to fix safari? Thank you.

This is ridiculous. Video windows simply don't show up on many sites for me, i.e., MacMost. No problems in Firefox. I tried all the aforementioned solutions, trashed prefs, disabled extensions, repaired permissions, etc. No good. Safari is supposed to be THE superior browser. I hate the idea of going to Firefox, but I may have to. Safari isn't worth the grief. Any other solutions are wekcome.

If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
Try uninstalling the currently installled Flash plugin (required for most YouTube content) then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
From your Safari menu bar top of your screen click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select: Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now from the menu bar click Develop > Empty Caches

Can't play video on Safari (and Firefox) !!

Hi,
I'm having an issue when trying to play any video online. Every time I click play, it appears to start to load the video but then stops (freezes - like the browser has crashed). About 10/20 seconds later I get a box appear saying ...
"A script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player 10 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script? Yes/No"
I've tried installing and using Firefox instead but the exact same thing happens. Pressing Yes or No makes no real difference as the application just seems to crash and then I have to Force Quit.
I have tried downloading and reinstalling Adobe Flash Player 10, but it makes no difference. If anyone has any ideas how I can resolve the issue then any help would be much appreciated!

HI Michael,
You need to UNinstall the Flash Player plugin you have and reinstall a fresh copy.
Uninstall Flash
Install Flash
Then maintenance...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Might be a 3rd party plugin causing the problem. Go to ~/Library/Internet Plugins. Move any 3rd party plugins to the Trash.
Also, if you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.

Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac.*

Can't play videos in safari

Recently, I have not been able to watch videos that I launch from the Safari web browser. After opening the link, instead of going onto the video playback interface, Safari attempts to load the video in the browser resulting in gibberish text being displayed.
Anyone else have this problem? or solution?

Go to Settings > Safari and set Plug-Ins to ON.

No longer can play videos on Safari

All of a sudden I can no longer play videos on Safari. Have re-loaded Flash Player but still nothing. Any suggestion?

Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Click Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings
Back to Safari. Press Command + Option + E to empty the Safari cache.
Quit and relaunch Safari, try a video.
If that doesn't help, you may have the YouTube HTML5 beta enabled.

I have to reinstall Flash player on my Mac whenever I restart it, as I cannot play videos in Safari.

This has gone on for a while now - I can't play videos on You Tube or embedded videos in Facebook on Safari - there is either a blank box, or a message comes up to say 'Plug in failure'. this is getting very frustrating! Please help.

Can't play videos on a newly upgraded iBook

I have recently upgraded my iBook G3 to 10.4.11. I also added an Airport card and a 512 MB RAM card. I can do pretty much anything on the internet (Safari 4.0.4) but can't play videos. The picture is really jumpy & laggy and the sound continues out of sync with the picture. Am I missing something or is the computer just not advanced enough to keep up?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Streaming video on an iBook G3 is a toughie.
Some suggestions which I found to help:
Restart the computer and open only the browser you want to use. Don't have any other applications open when you're attempting to watch streaming video.
Sometimes Firefox worked better for me than Safari (but I never used 10.4 on my iBook G3).
Some people have reported luck using VLC:

As a last resort, if possible, download the video and watch it from your hard drive.
Keep in mind that the last, best iBook G3 (900 MHz) was last produced in October of 2003, so you have a very old iBook attempting to play the latest versions of video, so things are often not very workable.

Why doesn't apple tv appear when playing video in safari?

Hi Guys:
     I just bought an apple tv. I am able to use the mirroring function with no problem, and I can see the apple tv in the "Airplay" menu.
     But When i play a video in safari(mirroring turned off), I can not see my apple TV in the "AirPlay" menu.
      So my question is : why doesn't apple tv appear when playing video in safari?
Does the same thing happen to you guys??
btw, I just dont want to mirroring when play a video in safari, that's why i'm asking this question

Experiencing the same issue. Everything used to just work. I'm up to date on *everything* and it's all apple devices (airport extreme, appletv, 2 macbook pro lion, iphone4s, ipad).
My gut says it's the AppleTV since it happens from both laptops that have itunes.
Let me know if you find a fix.

Flash player won't play videos in safari after I've installed Lion does anyone have a solution?

I've installed Lion after which Flash Player won't play videos with Safari. I keep being prompted to download and install the latest version of Flash Player whcih I've done several times. Can someone please help me fix this.
I find Adobe's announcement that there are no issues with Flash Player and Lion a bit of a sick joke.

I only use flash for watching video clips on the BBC website so haven't been affected by these other issues. The text below is copied from the website at the above link. Hope this helps.

You can contact iTunes and explain what happens and then may allow aa redownload. Unlike for apps and music (some countires only) a redownload is not guaranteed.

One of the following steps should help.
1. Install Adobe Flash Player.

    Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.
2. Enable Plug-ins
    Safari > Preferences > Security
    Web Content:
    Click in the box for "Enable Plug-ins".
3. Check whether you are currently in YouTube HTML 5 trial.

    At the bottom left of the page uncheck the box for
   "You are currently in the HTML5 trial".
4. Reset Safari.
    Click Safari in the menu bar.
    From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
    Uncheck the boxes next to all items.
    Check the box next to "Remove all website data".
    Click "Reset".
5. Turn off Extensions/Plug-ins if any that may interfere with Flash working properly.
    Safari > Preferences > Extensions

Clicking sound when playing videos in Safari

When I play videos in Safari I gett a clicking sound. If I try the same video in Chrome I do not hear these clicking sounds

Hi, everyone. This is Joey from Bongiovi Acoustics. This is a frustrating and known issue that arose with the release of Mavericks. Click here for our help topic on the issue.
The solution is not to uninstall Digital Power Station (DPS) but to quit the application from the task bar when the issue arises.
Allow me to explain in detail:
The Digital Power Station plugin works by capturing all system audio using a virtual audio output driver (a kernel extension called DPSReflector). The audio then goes to the Digital Power Station application where we apply the Bongiovi DPS audio processing. Then processed audio flows out to the physical output on your Mac that you choose in the DPS preferences window.
When you quit the DPS application from the task bar menu, the DPSReflector is taken out of the audio path and your standard connection to the audio hardware is restored. There is no need to uninstall DPS. When you want to listen to music or non Quicktime X powered video, you can just restart DPS from Launchpad.
Unlike most applications (word processors, video games, Photoshop etc) the use of a kernel extension vastly complicates our interaction with OSX. Up through OSX 10.8 the kernel extensions that captured audio worked great. These include the famous Soundflower by Cycling 74 as well as our own DPSReflector. Apple provided tools to developrs to fine tune them and their interactions with OSX and the world was happy.
With OSX 10.9 things seem to have changed. See our forum topic on the issue. The tools for profiling audio processes at a lower level no longer seem to work properly. And documentation about the changes to CoreAudio is incomplete. We have had an open bug report with Apple's driver support team for several months and we are consulting with experts on OSX kernel extensions to resolve the issue. As you can imagine, the lack of movement on this issue is frustrating. We can't see inside of CoreAudio to see how it is built at a deep level. So without documentation or good developer support we are at a standstill for fixing the issue. As soon as we get actionable information from Apple we will fix the issue immediately and push out an update.
We are dedicated to providing our users with amazing audio and we go to great lengths to see that their experience is the very best we can offer. Our hope is the fine folks at Apple with get back with us and provide good data that we can use to squash this bug. Feel free to keep up to date on our progress at our forums.
