Can't Play video out, sound but no video
Does anyone else have this problem? Ever since upgrading to ios 5.0.1 my apple AV cable doesn't work. I already tried restoring it as the "genius" at the apple store suggested.
One of the following steps should help.
1. Install Adobe Flash Player.

Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.
2. Enable Plug-ins
Safari > Preferences > Security
Web Content:
Click in the box for "Enable Plug-ins".
3. Check whether you are currently in YouTube HTML 5 trial.

At the bottom left of the page uncheck the box for
"You are currently in the HTML5 trial".
4. Reset Safari.
Click Safari in the menu bar.
From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
Uncheck the boxes next to all items.
Check the box next to "Remove all website data".
Click "Reset".
5. Turn off Extensions/Plug-ins if any that may interfere with Flash working properly.
Safari > Preferences > Extensions

I hope someone can help with this, i have been searching threads for hours. I can take a video off my pc and put it in to nokia video manager. I can then load it on to my phone. (on to the memory card). Problem is when i play the video on the phone i get sound but no picture. Could someone please give me a step by step instruction on how to solve this. Could you please confirm the video format you are trying to view in NOkia Video Manager? Following details are not meant to be jargon, as its mentioned in the help file of Nokia Video Manager for its normal users.
To be able to use Nokia Video Manager, make sure that you have Nokia PC Suite version 6.83 or newer installed on your PC. For system requirements, refer to Nokia PC Suite Help.
For video playback and conversion, make sure that you have the necessary codecs installed on your PC:
MPEG-2
DivX
xVid
QuickTime
For converting:
All the following formats can be converted to H.264/MPEG-4 AVC (.mp4)

ITunes Music Video. Sound but no video
Today I updated to OS X 10.7 Lion and have also installed iTunes 10.4.
Now I have a problem playing music videos, they play but I get sound only and no video.
How do I get the video stream to run as well?
ThanksPosting this question bought up the solution from another thread, "deselect the airplay speakers". I did this now it works fine.

It Depends on the app you are trying to airplay. Most apps do not allow content to airplay with video and will disable the video so all you will hear is the audio. If the app you are using does not have a built in airplay function and you have to use the iphone to make it work than most likley that is the case as I described above.
It has to do with copyright protection and what the app is allowing apple to do. -

You won't be able to view them via Apple TV, correct. It is not meant for this function, if that's your intended purpose its best to get a DVD player

Podcasts play sound but no video??!!
I subscribed to some podcasts on my iTunes today, and uploaded them to my iPhone. I'm beginning to get frustrated, as multiple podcasts from different subscriptions are all doing the same thing, they play the sound, but the video is frozen. I tried resetting the phone, same, re-uploading the same podcasts, same, and re-downloading and uploading new ones to the phone and the same... Should this happen after spending 700 on the 8gb with taxes and accessories? This is the first issue, and I am apple dedicated, but this is ridiculous! Help!

Podcasters do not have to make podcasts with video. if they do have video they do not have to be compatible with the iPhone.

Sound but no video after upgrading to QT 7
Hello,
I upgraded from QT 6.5 to QT 7.
None of my .mov files play video thrugh the player anymore. I can hear the mov files sound but a white screen is all i see for video. I have over 200 and it is the same with all.
The mov files play fine in Rreal Player or other players.
Anyone have an idea?
I want to use QT Pro but it only works with QT viewr 7 when doing an upgrade. I guess I am out of luck?I downloaded the new MPEG2 component (unfortunately I had to pay the 20 EUR as my previous download has been in something liek 2008 and is no longer registered in the Apple Store
Strange! I made my original pre-QT v6.4 MPEG-2 component purchase in September of 2002 and it was automatically updated to the version for QT 6.4 thru QT v7.5 which was then automatically updated for QT v7.6 and later. It would seem the European stores may operate differently than the US store. You may wish to hang onto you purchase information in case this ever happens again in order to discuss the matter with Customer Service or at least learn the specific terms/limitations of your purchase agreement and/or account.
I hope this solves the problem but it seems most likely that the incompatibility of the old MPEG2 component and QT 7.6.x is the reason for my problem. You may be right
I opened up the installer package after reading your latest post and noticed a statement that QT 7.6 is "required" for this update. So it looks like there were some compatibility issues with the change to QT v7.6 software.

Using Azul media player app on my ipad Apple tv will only display sound but not video from movies. Any ideas on a fix. I set mirroring to on but it still does not display video. It will display photos and video recorded from my iphone.
Here are the steps for AirPlay:
Before starting Azul from your (running iOS 5.x/6.x) home screen where have have all your apps we need to turn on mirroring
On your iPhone 4S/5 or iPad 2 or 3, double-click the Home Button to view your recently-used apps.
Swipe all the way to the right to until you see the icon.
Note: If the icon does not appear, go to the "If AirPlay Mirroring is not visible or available on your mobile iOS device" section.
Tap the icon to see the list of available AirPlay devices.
Enable AirPlay Mirroring in this menu by tapping on an available Apple TV, then sliding the Mirroring slider to ON.
Now you should be seeing your iPad/iPhone on your TV.
Start up Azul now and using the settings icon on the top right corner go to the option that say "TV out" ON.
When you do that you will see an Orange screen
Now click "Done" and play the video you want to watch and it will AirPlay -
Published Videos from IPhoto to Gallery have sound but no video in browser
I've published some iphoto pictures and videos to a gallery on MobileMe. The videos in the gallery will play in the browser but there is no video, just sound.
The videos in IPhoto work fine, but through the browser they have no image. Do I need a special plugin to play these videos off the site? I simply let IPhoto upload them to the gallery, so I assumed it would do whatever it needed to ensure they will play...
Any help would be appreciated...I've tried viewing the videos with Firefox and Safari, but I get the same behavior. I tried downloading the file and it is the same bahavior, however the originals in the IPhoto albums work just fine...I assume this means a conversion is happening, but to what format?? They have an AVI extension, were originally downloaded from a Canon 770is camera.
I confirmed I can play the video on a Windows computer. I also downloaded the file from the gallery and opened in Quicktime and used the inspector to see:
Format is 'MJPG' 640x480..it also downloaded with a .MOV extension rather than the AVI listed in gallery....

Is the video within iTunes or just in your movies folder?
If it is not iTunes then ignore the "itunes" portion below.
Remove the following files to the trash (do not empty until you test for function):
~/library/caches
~/library/preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist
~/library/preferences/com.apple.frontrow.plist
- Repair your permissions - > http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh17.html
- Restart your computer again
- Test and see how its working

MPEG2 Sound but NO Video on playback
I have QT Pro w/the MPEG2 Plug in (both current version) running on OSX 10.4.11 and when I try to open/play a file I get sound but no video. The file works fine with VLP and if I use Handbrake to encode the file in MPEG4 it will play. Why doesn't the MPEG2 file play? That's why I bought the plug in... Is there some other magic that needs to be done?
I looked at the encoding and it was MPEG so now at least I understand the QT not playing part. Yes the original file was from TIVO downloaded via TiveDecode Manager. I was hoping not to have to do any more encoding to get it to play in QT (want to use a Mac Mini as a Media Center). Using Handbrake I can encode to MPEG4 which does play just fine, it just can take hours to encode. If anyone knows of a better way please let me know. I know on solution is to use VLP as the player but it's not supported in Front Row (from what I can see). Thanks for the help Matti..

I imported some footage from my HD Sony Camera with IMovie on my Macbook pro. Then finding the Movie files, copying them to a folder and then burned them to a DVD disk. I wanted to watch the movie files on my PC. I installed the latest Quicktime for Windows XP Pro it opens the file, has sound but no Video.
If I insert the DVD back in my Macbook Pro I can see the Movie files and they play just fine.
Can anyone help with this?

cannot open mixer: 无效的参数VLC plugs directly into pulseaudio, while the firefox flash plugin uses ALSA to play sound. Do you have the pulseaudio-alsa package installed?
I have had a similar problem before. Sound would occasionally be controlled by ALSA and occasionally be controlled by pulse (the pulseaudio-alsa package did nothing). As far as symptoms, sometimes other applications would not produce sound while a flash video was playing and vice versa. Ultimately, I just removed everything pulse/ALSA-related, deleted (and backed up) my configuration files, and installed all related packages anew. It works now. I still don't really know what the problem was. -
Sound, but no video when streaming a quicktime file through shockwave
When I stream a quicktime movie in the html file hosted on localhost using the Apache server, I get sound but no video. I saved the quicktime movie as part of my cast, linked to http://localhost/~username/mymovie.mov
When I play the quicktime movie itself in my browser, or in a projector, or just within director, the video and sound play simultaneously. But in the browser after converting the dir movie to a dcr and html file, and hosting the dcr and html files on the server, when I open the html file in my browser, only the sound plays. here's some quick notes on how I handle shockwave videos with my projects.
I tend to find that .swf format videos work best under all browsers using shockwave
easiest way:
you can do a standard import of a .swf video straight into a your cast. (not linked)
the problem with this is it tends to create a large dcr file for you users to download
'preloadnetthing' way:
upload your videos to a url location - something like www.mywebsite.com/the_programs_title/dsmedia/videos/video1.swf
(I never use capital letters or spaces)
file - import - internet - <enter the full url pathname to the file>
this will add the file to the add list
set media to : Link to External File (Don't use Standard Import)
now press Import
at this point Director will try to connect to your url - and do a trial download of the linked file
if it works you should now see a new linked video cast member added to your cast
if it fails - (which mine tend to do half the time?) - try it again until it works.
Here I normally view the linked videos property inspector - and change its settings - I turn loop off - and make sure preload is not set.
now comes the code part
To get your videos to play correctly, you will need to preload them into memory, before you play them.
(although it's possible to stream videos - I've never been able to get this to work well - there is a whole bunch of lingo code to deal with streaming videos)

Not sure what I did but projects are not showing up in the video window as i skim... Event footage does but project footage has sound but the video screen is gray... How do I get the vido to show in the viewer?
So you can ping and nslookup from your ms to these agents and vice versa right? I wouldn't do a manual install, I would push the agent from the management server. You can uninstall the agent manually, or use cleanmom to get rid of them. Then
do an install from the console. When you initiate the install from the console (management server), should it run into any issues it will dump out an error which will give you an idea of where the problem may be.

the advice that was given to me worked about my cd/dvd player but there is 1 more problem i need to iron out and that is i have sound but no video the screen looks like a real tight knit rainbow is this a driver or a codecs problem
thanx dan34Next time include the model of computer that you are using. Then the people that respond to these questions can hopefully give you a better answer. I would go to the Control Panel and click on Displays. Check the Resolution and make sure it is set for the default of your computer. Usually that is the same as the highest resolution available. Check Device Manager in the Control Panel too. Make sure that there are no conflicts or anything disabled. Finally make sure that the computer is using the latest video driver.
