Can't play videos on ipod classic

I'm unable to play mp4 videos on my iPod Classic. I can play them fine in my iTunes library on my computer, and they are loaded onto my iPod.  But when I click to play the videos nothing happens (I get a black screen for a moment, then nothing).  I've dowloaded the latest version of iTunes and not sure what else to try.  Any suggestions welcome, thanks.

  • Can't transfer video to ipod classic

I recently added 6 new videos to my Itunes library. When I tried to manually transfer them to my Ipod Classic only 1 of the 6 shows up on my Ipod. When I drag any of the other ones over it shows the little green plus sign, but never has the spinning circle that shows it's adding it to the Ipod. All of the videos are the same format and all will play through itunes. I tried resetting the ipod, but no help. Any suggestions?

I figured it out. I went to play the video directly from iTunes rather than trying to transfer it to the iPod. I got a message I am not authorized, just like before. But this time it asked me if i want to authorize it. I clicked yes, obviously and voila...successful authorization. Now I can play it on my computer and iPod. Sorry for wasting everyone's time with this.

  • Suddenly can't play video on ipod but everything else works. Any ideas??

Strange. I reset my ipod classic 80 GB several times but still nada. The window display is fine for all my music but when I press to play a movie or video the screen goes black and doesn't shut down. When I connect the ipod to my XP computer, and play the videos from my ipod onto quicktime, they play. But disconnect and try to watch from the ipod screen and nothing. They worked before just fine.
    Any ideas what's up?

Thanks for the reply. The videos are MPEG 4 and where converted for ipod. I've used them on my ipod for a half year and all has been fine. The other day I loaded some podcasts into my ipod including some video podcasts and then when I went to watch the screen goes black but is still on. The only thing I can do is reset my ipod to turn it on. If I only listen to music or audio podcasts then everything is fine. Pictures are fine too.
I got fed up and finally did a Restore. It still does the exact same thing. Music is all good but the videos don't work. Not even video podcasts. The ipod freezes and requires a reset to boot it up again. Really strange.
    Any ideas??

  • Can't play video on iPod

I have a video iPod (black version) and I downloaded a TV show yesterday from iTunes Music Store to my G5 and synced to my iPod. I was watching the episode on my iPod last night and it got about halfway through and froze. I tried several times, even after turning off the iPod and it continues to freeze in the same spot. I play the video on my computer and it plays through without a problem. Any ideas on how to make the video play fluidly on my iPod?

    Hi JlJ123,
Which software version on your iPod are you using? It should be 1.1.1 (latest at present) for the 5th Generation Video iPod. Try to update this first through Apple download. Also, try to update iTunes to 6.0.4 (3) (latest at present).
As for the Video file, the iPod Video can only play MP4 or H263 format (encoded by Quicktime). However, since you bought it through iTunes store so I assume they are in these formats. Anyway, do a check on the Video files using Quicktime. What about the other Video clips? iPod can play other ones?
Finally, you can try to soft-reset your iPod by pressing and hold at the same time Center + Menu buttons for about 6-10 seconds, until you see the Apple icon appears again (it will disappear when you press those buttons)
    Cheers

  • Can you play videos on ipod nano??

i bought a rob thomas video from itunes thinking it would play on it. did i just waste $1.99??

Your $1.99 isn't wasted if you watch it full screen in iTunes.
Your $1.99 isn't wasted if you spend $299 on the VIDEO iPod.
The nano does not do video. There is no room for a video chip - that's how Apple keep it so small.

  • My iPod touch 5th gen can't play videos?

I've had my iPod touch 5th gen since Christmas Eve and I haven't had any problems with it, but a few days ago it stopped playing videos and now - even though I have turned it off and back on and turned the wifi off and back on again - it still can't play videos off any site, Facebook, dailymotion, YouTube, nothing. But I can view webpages and get Internet connection just fine!!
So if you know what I could do to fix it please help because it's very frustrating!!! Thanks

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • HT1539 Some downloaded movies are in HD and won't play on my iPod Classic.  How can I get the SD version without having to buy another version?

How can I get the SD version of HD movies that I already own and are downloaded on my computer.  These HD movies won't play on my iPod Classic.

Just figured out how to get the SD version of HD movies to play on the iPod Classic.  In the iTunes Store, look at the purchased list and down at the bottom where it lists the Total: # Movies, to the right is a checkbox [ ] Download HD When Available.  If you uncheck the box, it allows you to get the SD version of those HD movies from the cloud.

  • Downloading hd video for ipod classic

I downloaded some TV shows from the Itunes store for my Ipod classic.  I find out after I purchased them that they will not play on the Ipod.  From what I am reading, it sounds like the HD versions will not play on an Ipod classic.  That seemed strange since I am very certain that I have downloaded other HD videos from the store and never ran into this problem.  Possibly the other HD videos were not 1080?  I also don't recall being given the option to download the SD version and it does not appear that I can go back now and do so.  Any help?

HD videos, whether 720p or 1080p, will not play on an iPod classic. Previously when buying HD versions of shows you automatically also received the SD version, but now only the HD copy will automatically download now (probably due to requests from people who don't need/want the SD version and complained about it being forced on them). The SD copy can be downloaded from your purchases area in iTunes. On the main iTunes Store page, go to Purchases under the Quick Links and then select TV shows. Click the "Not On This Computer" button. Uncheck the "Download HD when available" box and you should then see the SD copies of the shows and be able to download them.
    Regards.

  • HT1351 I have an Ipod classic which was the original device connected to Itunes.  I connected an Iphone 4S and can no longer see my Ipod classic.  How do I once again get it connected?

I have an Ipod classic which was the original device connected to Itunes.

The right way to consolidate your music is to copy it from one computer to another. You can copy music from an iPod classic though:
How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329
When the music is all in the same library, sync the Touch.
You will still need to authorize your computer to play purchased music. For that, use the Apple ID that was used to purchase it.

  • Can I use my 160gb iPod classic as an external hard drive for my MacBook?

Can I use my 160gb iPod classic as an external hard drive for my MacBook?

That link seems to be broken.  It does normally lead to a solution. For the time being go to
    http://www.google.com/search?q=ipod+classic+disk+mode
Let your mouse hover over the link until you see the option appear on the right to view the cached version Google contains:
Putting iPod devices with a Click Wheel into Disk Mode
If necessary, verify that your iPod has a Click Wheel.
Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it is charged.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will should say "Do not disconnect".
If you are having difficulty putting your iPod into Disk Mode, set it on a flat surface. Make sure that the finger pressing the Select button is not touching the Click Wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Play/Pause button toward the outside of the Click Wheel and not near the center. If you are still unable to put your iPod into Disk Mode, use one finger from one hand to press the Select button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Play/Pause button.
If you have an older iPod model, without a Click Wheel
Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it has a charge.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons until the Apple/iPod logo appears, then release them. This resets iPod. When you reset iPod, all your music and data files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost.
When the Apple logo appears, immediately press and hold the Previous and Next buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod should say "Do not disconnect".
If you have an iPod nano (6th generation)
Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode,  verify that it has a charge.
Reset the device by pressing the Sleep and Volume Down buttons simultaneously until the display turns black. This should take about eight seconds.
When the display turns black, hold down the Volume Down and Volume Up buttons simultaneously until the device enters Disk mode.

  • Can't see videos on ipod nano - why did it let me purchase if its not compatible?  7th generation

New 7th generation ipod nano.  Purchased some videos on itunes, but can't play them on ipod - says it's uncompatible.  First ipod - why did it let me purchase them if I can't play them on my device?

If the iPod is set to auto transfer, then the songs on your iPod would be removed if you were deleting them from the iTunes library after putting them on the iPod.
If you have the iPod set to manual transfer of songs, the songs already on your iPod should not be removed each time you add new ones (even if you were to delete them from iTunes afterwards.
The directions in the manual don't match the summary screen if you are using the latest iTunes version 7.0.1.
If there's no particular reason you want to transfer songs manually, then try the auto method again and post back if you encounter problems.

  • Having trouble syncing video to Ipod Classic 160GB

    Hi all,
Finally moved up to an Ipod after a few too many years with other brands...and am really enjoying the Ipod/Itunes combo for music.
Video's a different matter, though, and I could use your help!
I'm trying to get a few videos onto my Classic, and have converted them into MP4 format and put them in the "Movies" folder in Itunes (they show up alongside every video I've shot on my digital camera). My Ipod is set to sync automatically, and does so for music, but not for video. I was able to get the videos on using the instructions I found on http://www.ehow.com/how4925922download-videos-onto-ipod-classic.html , but the next time I synced music on my Ipod, it removed the videos I'd added.
Is there a way that I could add videos manually, and keep syncing music automatically, without the automatic syncing removing things that I added manually? Or could I set Itunes/Ipod up such that music is automatically queued for syncing, while videos need to be approved for syncing?
Basically, how can I get this to work?
    Many thanks for your help.

    Hello stopheles,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
How do you currently have your iPod set up to sync Videos? What settings do you have enabled from under the Videos tab for your iPod in iTunes? Specifically, the "Automatically sync (Select Option Here, e.g. all) movies" option on this tab.
