Can't playback on Blackmagic Decklink HD extreme 2

Hi all,
I am looking to crossgrade from FCP7 to Premiere CS6 so I have the Master Collection Demo installed on my work station along with FCP. It's on a 2008 Mac Pro with 2 Quad core 3.2G Intel Xeons, 16GB ram, ATi 2600 HD 250mb graphics and a Blackmagic Decklink  HD Extreme 2. In the FCP set up this card fed a full HD JVC broadcast monitor via HD-SDI and I had no trouble with it at all and it played any type of sequence. My problem is that I can't for the life of me get a picture on the screen in Premiere. No combination of BM sequence settings or codecs, either BM or otherwise, seem to get it going. Output options seem extremely limited in the application set up with only one box to tick under the playback menu. This seems to have no effect whatsoever. The aplication can obviously see the card because the option to check it as a playback is there and the audio routes through without error. I have installed the latest Premiere updates and am running Desktop video 9.6. AE plays on the monitor fine but nothing in Premiere unless I switch the BM card to extended desktop and use the broadcast monitor as a second LCD and tick that option under the playback menu but then my GFX card seems to struggle and drops frames all over the place. I admit the ATI card is a bit of a slouch but options were limited for Mac unless you want the high end cards, which I am considering, could the fact the card is under powered have anything to do with video not getting to the BM card. I don't know much about the MPBE apart from the fact my card doesn't qualify.
Any ideas on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
Apart from no client monitor I'm loving Premiere, I'm finding th realtime stuff quite refreshing after FCP, which was a bit of a joke really in that area...but if I can't monitor, I can't make the switch.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
You don't need to use the blackmagic presets to play back through your card. What are your settings under preferences>general?playback?  You might want to try uninstallig the blackmagic presets and installing the latest Deskstop from BM. The uninstall option will be available when you download BM Desktop from their support site.  Having the latest version isn't what is important but uninstalling is.
Cheers,
Gerry

  • Playback Issues with multiple framerates and Blackmagic Decklink 4K Extreme

I recently swapped by AJA Kona Card for a Blackmagic Decklink 4K Extreme in order to get external monitoring in DaVinci Resolve.
I'm working in a 1080p 23.976 project that includes some 29.97 SD and HD footage. When loading this 29.97fps footage into my source footage, I periodically encounter frozen playback (The play triangle in my toolbar becomes a square symbol and remains that way). From there I am unable to playback any footage in any timeline, and requires a full system shutdown to return to normal! The problem is seemingly intermitent, with successful playback happening sometimes.
The 29.97 footage was DVCPRO, I attempted to transcode to Prores to troubleshoot. No dice. I believe it to be an issue related to the Decklink's inability to handle multiple framerates on-the-fly but wanted to submit here, too. I've also experienced intermittent sync delays on my broadcast monitor.

    Hi Andy,
You should not have any issues with Blackmagic handling multiple formats on the fly. However, I believe the frozen playback issues your describing is related to the Desktop Video 10 driver. I suggest rolling back to 9.3.3 for the time being. Blackmagic is looking into this issue now.

  • What capture formats are available when using a Blackmagic Decklink 4K Extreme?

I will be capturing from a games console 1080p60 with Premiere in a Win7 environment and need a reasonable intermediate format for editing.
PC is high spec i7 with 32GB mem and SSD drives.
    Thanks
    Jean

I'm using cs6 and not capturing via decklink ...your specs here ..
    http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/decklink/techspecs
but I like the mov wrapper with avid codec ( 10 bit 422 ) for stuff I'm doing on a win 7 PC . I would stay away from pro res cause that's apple stuff ( mac )...its good but win PC is not all that happy dealing with that stuff...
I would test some stuff using one bnc ( 422 ) and 2k ...just to see what you can get and how that workflow behaves with your software etc...
??? maybe someone here is using that card and can give you more exact info...

Trying to setup CC 2014 but I just don't see anything in the Mercury Transmit list except Adobe DV. Am I missing something here??

Have you installed the latest drivers from Blackmagic?

If you installed After Effects CC 2014 after you installed the drivers, you may need to reinstall the drivers in order for the correct files to be installed.

  • DeckLink HD Extreme III HDMI capture

    Hi
I wont to use a BlackMagic DeckLink HD Extreme III card in a MacPro using Final Cut Pro 7 to capture a HDMI signal and capture the audio from a separate XLR source. Does anyone know if this is possible please?
    Thanks
    Paul

well you are shooting JVC's proprietary HDV variant ... if you want to capture the native MPEG-2 transport stream from the camera or deck then you need to capture via firewire. If you capture via component then the camera is decompressing the video data and sending that decompressed data down the wires to your Decklink where it is being recompressed to the target codec ... you might set the target codec to the same HDV variant that you shot but in capturing it as such you have pushed the signal through a full recompression cycle.
if you've had troubles with capture of the JVC originated footage then you might find good info here:

  • Understanding the way to connect a MDD to BlackMagic Decklink Extreme card

    Hi,
I require some help in the following:
I recently bought myself a Blackmagic DeckLink Extreme™ with 10bit SDI/analog video and audio capture card.
Looking at the specs, http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/sd/specs/, can someone give me directions as to the best setup I can do from the following sources and what other equipment I may require to achieve it.
    - mono stereo audio VHS -> has 1 video/audio in and 1 video/audio out (composite connections)
    - stereo audio video camera -> has 1 8 pin S-Video out port to composite connections (Hi8 tape type)
    - DVD player -> has composite 2 x 2ch stereo audio out, 1 x 5.1ch stereo audio out, 2 x video out, 1x component video out, 2 x S-video out, 2 x digital audio out; 1 x RCA/OPT
    - 2 x 23" monitors connected by ADC and DVI connections to a Apple MDD G4, may relay to 60" Plasma for video monitoring from video card prior to creating DVD final piece for playback.
Basically, I wanted to have multiple source inputs and outputs, but I'm having difficulty in understanding the setup. Please refer to http://www.blackmagic-design.com/downloads/connections/decklinkdiagram.pdf page 5/6.
I purchased the following from JayCar

One option is to purchase a hard drive (say, a 2TB Hitachi G-Technology drive) and connect it to the USB port on the back of the Apple Extreme. The other option is to purchase a drive with an ethernet connection (say, a 2TB Lacie drive) and connect it to an ethernet port on the Apple Extreme.
In the second case what you'd have actually is a NAS. Apple's AirPort routers aren't known for fast file sharing. The NAS option might be faster.
Is either option better for streaming movies from the hard drive to my Apple TV?
I could be wrong, but an AppleTV may not be able to access content directly from a network drive. It may require that a Mac serve as an intermediary.

  • Blackmagic Decklink card not showing up in Playback settings

Just upgraded to Premiere Pro CC - my Blackmagic Decklink card is not showing up in the Playback settings box.

Hi Peter - thanks for responding - yes I did install the latest drivers - but finally found a thread that solved the issue.  Turns out Blackmagic installs the drivers in its own Adobe folder - but Adobe only wants to see them in its own special folder (Application Support>Common>Adobe).  Once I moved everything from the one folder to the other, then Premiere could see the card just fine.  They should be definitely look at a better way of dealing with this - so it doesn't become an emergency science project for people like me.
Anyway, case closed - for now.  Thanks.

  • Decklink Intensity Extreme and After Effects CC 2014 playback

I can't get any output on  Decklink Intensity Extreme using After Effects 2014 using 'Mercury Transmit'. Whatever comp setting I choose, my monitor reports back that the input signal isn't supported. In CC everything worked fine, but the new Preview Engine doesn't seem to play nice with my monitor...
Did an 'Uninstall', reboot, Install, reboot of the Desktop Video Installer 10.1.2, but nothing seems to help.
Anybody else got this combination working?

    Hi Kevin,
If you haven't already, I recommend you contact technical support. The problem you're encountering is different than what we've seen before, and you'll be better off talking with somebody one-on-one to troubleshoot.
That said, I have a couple of thoughts. My gut reaction is that this problem is not directly related to Adobe QT32 Server, something in the underlying QuickTime infrastructure is probably failing.
The diagnostic report (thanks for posting!) shows the last thing QT32 Server tries to do is get the list of audio codecs available through QuickTime. While loading those, something is failing and causing the crash.
The fact that QuickTime 7.x Player is also giving issues is key evidence that the problem is not application-specific. I would bet that other QuickTime-dependent applications may also fail on your computer.
At a minimum I would recommend removing all component files from the Library/QuickTime folder. Since this appears to be audio related, I would next uninstall any audio drivers on your system, including those for capture cards.
Sorry I can't be of more direct assistance here. Troubleshooting remotely is always a bit of digging around in the dark.

  • Can't lower framerate with Blackmagic Decklink

We have FME3 and a Blackmagic Decklink SDI 10bit, drivers v6.6.  We would like to stream at 15fps, but in FME, I can't set the framerate to anything lower than 25.  When choosing 15, it just jumps to 25.
Also tried changing it in the card's system driver - which I can - but then when I load up FME, its clearly still running at 29.97, and I still can't change to 15.
    Any thoughts?

FMLE supports only those FPS that are supported by device.
In this case device is giving fixed FPS which is 29.97 irrespective of value selected in FMLE. You are sometimes getting 25 FPS because of unavailabity of enough CPU to encode 29 frames per second.
The only workaround in order to get 15 FPS output is to load your CPU or Increase Video frame size so that some of the frames get dropped by FMLE because of unavailablity of CPU and effective output FPS drops to 15.

  • Premiere CS4 4.1 and Blackmagic Decklink

I've loaded CS4 4.1 along with the latest Blackmagic Decklink 7.2 update software. I can see my timeline playing on my production monitor but I have no audio. If I load a clip into a new project using just the DV-NTSC 4:3 option then I get audio but I don't see my playback on my production monitor. If I select new project and select the Blackmagic DV-NTSC 4:3 option then I see the playback on the monitor but I get no audio. I've tried to change the preferences in CS4 in the audio section to recognize the Blackmagic Audio output and still nothing. I've checked the Blackmagic audio drivers on my machine and they are recognized. Anyone have similar problem or ideas how to fix. Greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Have the same exact issues in our rig. Have the HD Extreme 3, with with our P6T7 WS SuperComputer MoBo with the intergrated SoundMAX HD audio and the Bose Companion 5 multimedia speaker system. I have contacted BM about this. Their support has been terrible to say the least. I have sent a couple emails in the past week with no response. I should have gone with the AJA Kona but thats another story. Our issue, which is similar to yours:
    (my email to BM)
We have the HD Extreme 3 and we just purchased a Panasonic BT-LH1710 LCD reference HD monitor. We have it connected via BNC in the SDI on the monitor and out of the Extreme card in the first BNC slot (closest to the breakout cable input). We just shot footage with the Panasonic Varicam 2700 and if we choose DVCPROHD 720p from the presets in Premiere 4.1, we can view the material that is in the source monitor on the Panasonic but once we put on the timeline and thus program monitor, we cannot see the footage on the Panasonic reference monitor. If we choose from the Blackmagic presets it does work. Do we have to use the Blackmagic presets for our footage to be seen on our Panasonic monitor even though we should be using what we shot in, which in this case was DVCPROHD 720p 24fps P2?
-Answer to this from what I gathered from others is: "You must always use a Blackmagic Design preset when you create a new Sequence. You will never ever get any out put from any other Timeline" Which I really don't know how that effects the project when cutting, if at all since we are not capturing from the card (thus using BM's CODEC but rather, using footage shot from our Panny P2's.
Second issue is audio, even when using the blackmagic presets, we cannot hear audio. I have the settings all correct in Premiere and can see the levels moving, just can't hear anything out of our speakers. The audio works fine with our speakers in every other preset but Blackmagic's (if we choose Premiere Pro Sound as the Audio Hardware and Audio Output Mapping). Once we switch to Blackmagic, we do not hear any audio.
-Answer - I have tried everything and am still unsuccessful and getting audio to play out o our BOSE speakers. It does play (not well) our of the Panny reference monitor but am still searhing for a solution. Under control panel for audio, it does show blackmagic audio and working but nothing as of yet. Kind of driving me crazy.
If you read the third post down http://forums.adobe.com/message/1989667#1989667 from Roger he kind of touches on it but still doesn't solve the issue.
I'd be interested to hear if you have a solution or really anyone has a solution.

  • Capture with Decklink HD Extreme HD 720p25 - correct settings?

    Hello!
I want to capture footage from JVC HD 720p25 over composite connection with my Decklink HD Extreme.
I use Final Cut Pro 6.0.4
I want to capture it with the original HD 720p25 compression or a other simular quality compression.
Please give me the right preset! I find only this preset : Blackmagic HDTV 720p50 JPEG!??
    A second question:
Do you think that I`m on the right way, when I want to capture over composite?
...or should I capture over firewire??
But I hope I will have a advantage with my decklink!?
    Thanx for your help
    Peter

well you are shooting JVC's proprietary HDV variant ... if you want to capture the native MPEG-2 transport stream from the camera or deck then you need to capture via firewire.

  • Playback with Blackmagic Ultrastudio Express Thunderbolt

    Hello,
I'm using a MacBook Pro, a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Express Thunderbolt, and Premiere Pro CC 2014.  Under preferences I've set playback to BlackMagic playback.  When I connect a monitor to the ultra studio express I can get playback from the sources but not from the program.  I'm trying to output a green screen composite.  I've got the composite completed in the program viewer within Premiere, I've rendered the effect, but it won't play out to the external monitor.  But if I double click on either tracks on the timeline, they will play out to the external monitor.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Herb Forsberg

To my knowledge, if CC is up to date, it's up to date.  I checked and there are no updates.  Thanks.

  • Two BlackMagic DeckLink SDI Cards in FMLE

Is it possible to run two BlackMagic DeckLink SDI cards in two separate instances of Flash Media Live Encoder?
I can run one fine, but if I try to select the other, even if card # 1 [Decklink Video Capture in FMLE] is not in use, card #2 [Decklink Video Capture (2) in FMLE] only shows black. I have verified that video signal is working. Finally I installed Wirecast Demo to test if it was software and sure enough it works fine in Wirecast, each card shows the video fine.
I contacted BlackMagic and they stated it was the software. I have successfully done this with Viewcast Cards but now that we went HD BlackMagic are cheaper, but so far no luck in FMLE.
I would appreciate any isnight on this issue.
    Thank you!
    -Nate

    Hi Pi,
Did you manage to resolve the problem? We're having similar issue. BM Media Express software recognises the card, but FMLE just reports it as Decklink and gives a blank input display. Any attempt to change settings causes FMLE to crash.
    Thanks,

  • Blackmagic Decklink & FCE

I just bought a new Mac Pro and a Blackmagic Decklink SP PCI-Express card. I'm trying to get video from a DVCPro Player into FCE HD 3.5. FCE does not allow me to chose the decklink card though, only Firewire devices. Is there anyway to do this. So far the only other option I have is spending more money and getting FCP which I would rather not do right now as I just spent so much. Can someone please help and let me know my options?

Cool I will look into one of those or just get the enclosure and build my own. Probably will be cheaper on my own as is most cases. I did get my video in ok and am dumping it into DVD Studio as I type this message. FCP was the key as FCE was a little too consumer for the equipment we are using at them moment. I really appreciate all the help on this Tom. You deffently seem to know your way around all this. I unfortunately am learning the hard (& expensive) way. I am going to try and return my Declink card and upgrade to the Pro version so I will have SDI input for the next video we do. This one looks pretty good but the actual tape we have is so much more beatiful. I guess I have a lot more money I will need to spend before my Editing system is even close to being what I need. Do you have any ideas on where to get good deals on some of this stuff. I still need to get either another LCD like the one I'm using (Sony KLV-S23A10 HD) or get (2) 20" Trinitron flat screen CRT monitors and an output monitor, I have been using a 13" Sony with SDI in @ the TV station and it seems to be fine for what I'm doing, and some studio monitors. After that I think I'll be ok for a little while on my editing station. At least aside from more RAM and the RAID array. Let me know if you know of anywhere. I again appreciate the help on this Tom.
