Can't plug pc monitor to ps3

Hi everyone, I'm having a hard time trying tp figure out how to plug my ps3 to my pc monitor (asus s220hql). Bear in mind that two years ago i managed to do that with no problems, with the same cable/same ps3/same monitor
Anyway, my monitor has only dvi/vga inputs, so i plug the hdmi/dvi cable in, then the ps3 to an old scart tv, power everything up and expect to see on the old tv the screen 'an hdmi input has been revealed', but that doesn't happen. Anyway i can see in the monitor that is being displayed a blank image with resolution 750x576. I go to video settings and change the ps3 output manually, but while i can see that thr image is being refreshed on my monitor, nothing displays, and it seems like the ps3 'knows that': there should be a menu where it asks me if everything is fine, but if i press x on my controller it should selct yes or no, and either go back to the previous screen or continue forward, but none of that happens. The same thing happens if i plug an hdmi vga converter(hdmi male in the ps3 and vga female)+plus vga cable, except that the ps3 asks me on startup wheter i want to switch to hdmi or not.
I tried the hold button down method. Please help,
TheHooligan95

I found that "Asus s220hql ABD" has HD resolution so that shouldn't be a problem. Did you choose 1080p? Tried 1080i instead? I heard that you could need an HDCP-converter for some screens.

I know 0 about PS3, but if it offers similar support as Xbox360, you should be able to plug it in and play non-protected music and video.
Give the PS3 site a search for External Drive/Music Playback.
Another solution is to do that kind of thing across the network. If you are interrested in that, look at this.

Presumably the mains cable, which you can get from an Apple Store.

  • Can I plug Apple TV into a VGA monitor?

I'm considering purchasing an Apple TV.  I do not own a TV, but I do have a large computer monitor which only accepts VGA input.  Can I plug an Apple TV into it?

No, not without some form of HDMI to VGA/analogue audio converter which would be unlikely to be cheap.  It would also need to support 720p input and HDCP to avoid oplayback issues.
You might get it working, but it may not be cheap or simple to do so.

Mobile devices cannot be backed up directly to the Airport Time Capsule.
The iTunes program on the computer is required for backup.

Can you plug a ipad into a monitor and keyboard?

As Rudegar pointed out, the AV cable is an adequate option. But another option is to purchase an Apple TV. That's the only way to use Airplay from an iOS device (for now). I'm pretty sure no OEM TV's support Apple's Airplay technology as of yet. Apple wants you to purchase the Apple TV so don't hold out hope that they'll license the tech to TV manufacturers any time soon.
Check out Apple's demo of Airplay on their website and see if that's an option you might like. The AV cable is cheaper but IMO a cable of any kind is a cumbersome work around. And the Apple TV allows you to also play music and look at your pictures from any iOS device as well.
Re: your other question: "Can I see my iPad on the TV in general when hooked up?". The answer is, "Not yet". Only the "output" (IE: music, video, slideshows) can be seen through Airplay or the AV cable. You can't use the TV as a second monitor for your iOS device.
Lastly, you can't "break" your device simply by trying to hook it up to your TV. I had the same issue with my father this holiday with trying to convince him he couldn't break his camera by trying to hook it directly up via the USB connector on the TV.

  • How can AG240 dispaly 2 monitor on the same time ?

HI , I want to display AG240 screen to another monitor !
my monitor has HDMI port , Which port can I plug in from my AG240 ? HDMI-IN OR HDMI-OUT ?
And Which button has I press?

    Hi Guy,
According my unprofessional opinion, I think you have to plug-in HDMI-out,
if the screen doesn't display in other monitor, PLZ push the windows button + P and choose the display situation do you want, that is ok!

  • Can't get 2nd Monitor to Work

I have a MacBook Pro 2.16 Core Duo. I also have a Dell LCD display, about 3 years old. I can connect the Dell monitor with a DVI cable, but the MacBook doesn't sense it.
My only clue is that on the MacBook, there are four pins right by the horizontal "blade" pin in the DVI output, but the Dell monitor, which is also DVI, does not have inputs for those four pins. I notice that some DVI cables have those four pins, and some don't.
    Help!

Thanks for the help. I now understand DVI better, but that didn't solve teh issue.
I took my Mac and Dell monitor to the genius bar today. They confirmed that my Mac external port supports other monitors, but not this one. We plugged another Mac into the monitor and still nothing. SO either the Dell LCD monitor is not compatible with Mac, or there is some keystroke that must be made to sense the Dell that I haven't figured out. Was on the phone with Dell also - they suggested command-F2, but that didn't do anything.

  • What can/can't plug into the USB hub on back of 24" ACD?

    Hello,
I have a harpertown mac pro 3ghz machine connected to my new 24 inch cinema display. Question, what can I plug in and not plug into the back of the USB hub? How do I know what devices would drain power from the ports? In other words, USB drives - I take it, one can't plug those into the back of the monitor's hub, correct?

The USB ports on the display do provide power (500 mA per port), so any USB device should work.
If you use the aluminum USB keyboard, though, there is a difference between the USB ports on the Mac Pro and those on the display. Normally, the keyboard acts as an unpowered USB hub, so each port can provide only 100 mA. When plugged directly into a Mac Pro USB port, though, the Mac Pro provides extra power to that port, so the keyboard has enough power to provide 500 mA to one of its USB ports. The means the keyboard can be used to charge an iPhone, or use a USB spick that needs more than 100 mA.

  • I can not get my monitor to work!

Hello everyone. I have a first gen MacBook Pro 1.8 GHz with ATi graphics X1600. I can not get my external monitor to work. I have updated the drivers and installed the ATI catalyst control to no success. When I plug my monitor in, my laptop display immediately becomes monitor #2 and the external monitor will not wake up. I can not bring up any preferences or anything because everything is on the sleeping monitor. I have searched but haven't found a lot, maybe i'm just bad at searching which is possible. This is driving me nuts! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • 15" MBP and plug-in monitors.

The Color application in Final Cut Studio requires at least a 17" monitor. However, I was wondering:
The Apple Cinema HD Display (23" flat panel) monitor is capable of a 1920x1200 resolution. Can I buy that monitor, plug it into the 15" MBP, and still get the Cinema HD's 1920x1200 resolution, or will that monitor limited by the same restrictions as the 15" MBP's monitor?
I like the smaller size of the 15" MBP, but I want to be able to use the Color application!

Then I guess I'm asking what the limitations of the nVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT with 256MB is. I'm having a hard time finding the specs on it.

  • Macbook pro(2008 later) can not recognise external monitor(NEC UXI2090) with mini-DP to DVI adapter with 9600GT

I bought mini-DP to DVI frome Apple several monthes ago and it worked well in that time until yesterday the external monitor show me no signal sign. Other PCs were connected with the same cable and monitor and they are fine. I am wondering there is something wrong in the adaptor or macbook pro. Furthermore I found the external monitor can display nornally when I switched to 9400 graphic card and used mini-DP to VGA adapter. If I switch to 9600GT no signal again. If I switch 9400 using mini-DVI, it is shown on the external screening: Out of range... In a word, In the mode of 9600GT, mac can not recognise external monitor(I can not detect it in the systerm preference even I press detect display buttun) and 9400 works in VGA mode. However when I connect adapter to mac, the screen showed blue flash.
I reseted SMC, no use; I created a new account or enter mac to safe mode, no use; so far I did not reseted PRAM beacuse of something wrong of my system. I am downlaoding Mountain Lion OS and will install it. Then I will reset PRAM and try again.
I do not know whether I shoud change the adapter or the single-link DVI cable to dual-link. Someone said it is useful in their condition. I tried some methods from BBS, such as connected when devices were off and then open, and so on. I failed.
    Any suggestion for this problem?
    Addition: OS: 10.7.4(Lion)

I turns out that the logic board of my MacBook Pro was faulty (despite being brand new).
I took it to the Apple Store, presented the problem, and one of the Tech's came to the same conclusion that I had -- hardware failure.  Phone support was no help in the matter (and even told me that what I was trying to do wasn't a supported option, which is rediculous).  However, the Genius Bar did take care of the problem, and my MacBook Pro was back to me with a replaced logic board within a few days.
    Hope that htis helps.
