Can't preview my InDesign files on my Mac

Can't preview my InDesign files on my Mac using QuickLook – just moved up to Adobe CC on Yosemite from CS6 on Mountain Lion – anyone else having similar problems? It's a real pain when you've got thousands of files to search through

You may be using ArtView or SneakPeek from Codeline for providing QuickLook previews. I believe that the previews broke in the last Yosemite update 10.10.2. There's a line at the top of the Codeline website that suggests that an update is coming.

Does the Digital Publishing Suite publishes only for tablets?  can I publish my indesign file to html only using DPS?

DPS will not do what you want and neither with anything else without at
    least some work.
HTML out of InDesign is for content only, not layout. There is a new
product out there you can try, however:

    Ok Great,
Will installing Boot Camp drivers allow me to both read and write to the OS X Volume from windows?
This is important as if it will it means i can make the windows partition a lot smaller and keep all my files on the OS X partition which would be preferable.

No, OSX will be read only (from Windows) and vice versa. (you can install 3rd party utilities on either or both partitions, to make read/write possible)

  • Can i install CS3 Indesign and Photoshop on mac OSX10.8.4?

Can i install CS3 Indesign and Photoshop on mac OSX10.8.4? Or do I have to update and can I purchase updates from Adobe? If I can, how much are they?

    Yes, should be no problem.
According to the box that came with my copy of CS3 the requirements are "PowerPC G4 or G5 or multicore Intel processor, Mac OSX 10.4.8 or above.
I loaded it onto my new Mac running Mountain Lion with no problems at all and it runs perfectly. InDesign used to crash occasionally under Tiger but has never crashed under Mountain Lion.

  • I can open my new InDesign files by going up through the menu and opening that way, but when I try to just double click on an InDesign file I get error messages telling me that certain plugins aren't available.

I upgraded my Mac a few weeks ago to 10.10.2 Yosemite, and I joined the Adobe cloud so I could get access to all the new apps. I read a blurb somewhere about converting older InDesign files to the new CC version I'd have to open the old files in my old InDesign CS3, export to an ins file, then open that file in the new InDesign CC, then export it again to an idml file, then open that file and you shouldn't have any of the usual conversion problems. For the first few files I had to convert, it worked just fine. Now for some reason, whenever I try to open one of these converted files just by double-clicking on the file itself, I get an error message that says, "The document ____ uses one or more plug-ins which are currently not available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?" When I click OK, then I get another error message that says, "Cannot open ____. Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign." I thought this CC version of InDesign was the newest. Can somebody please tell me what gives with this? Any help will be very much appreciated.

Did you reinstall CS3 after CC?
For that matter, doing an in-place upgrade on the OS is always a gamble with Adobe programs. Reinstalling all the versions you need, in order, would probably solve your problem.
And you shouldn't need to save as IDML after opening the .inx in CC.

  • Can't open my InDesign files.

    Hello,
I created some InDesign files using InDesign CC on my MacBook Pro. I now can't get them to open. I've been able to open them on a co-workers machine (he is also running InDesign CC on a Mac). I keep getting this error message, "Cannot open the file "XXXXX.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application." Any troubleshooting ideas? I can't figure out why these files won't open for me.
    Thanks

I created these files myself in InDesign and up until a few days ago could open them no problem. This is not the issue with these files. They also opened in InDesign fine on my co-workers computer.

  • Can you trace which Indesign files link to a specifik image?

I have an image database, that multiple Indesign files link to.
I am not the original author of the Indesign files nor the image database, so I have no overview of how many Indesign files links to each image.
And now I have an image I would like to make a change in - but I am afraid to do so, when I do not know in which Indesign files the image is used.
So my question is - is there a way to track links made to a specific image in any Adobe programme?

May be Flow could do the trick for you....?

ps. I have not used it myself, so I really can´t say if it solves your problem....

    Renu86,
Please disable any ad blocking or flash blocking plug-ins you
have enabled in your browser, or try using a fresh installation of
Mozilla Firefox. The blank black screen you see is most often
caused by ad blocking software falsely identifying Acrobat.com's
Flex-based software as a large Flash advertisment and not
displaying the content. Unfortunately this is beyond the control of
the Acrobat.com developers and would be local to the client
    machine.
We are working with several of the most popular ad blocking
software developers to resolve this situation.

  • Can I see which InDesign files a photo is used in?

I don't know if this is possible, but I want to be able to select a photo in Bridge and see every InDesign file this photo is used in. Can I do this with Bridge? Or any other adobe product/plugin? Thank you!!!

If the image is a camera JPG, then many cameras substitute an underscore for the first character of the filename (this is I think in the standards of the digital camera manufacturer's association) when the camera is set to AdobeRGB. This is not present when pictures are taken with the camera set to SRGB.
This information is not relevant for camera Raw, but at least some cameras will in fact repeat this same naming convention, for those as well.
I don't recall that this information is readily accessible, for derived files which have been assigned a colourspace when created for external editing. It is possible to make external editing presets, but IIRC the standard file suffix (such as, "XXXXX-edit.XXX") is not set separately by these. In the case where a file is sent to Photoshop in an as yet unsaved state, one could when saving it, modify the file name to denote the colourspace.
However, I am not sure how useful that would be from the LR end.
If you would have liked a file to be in a big colourspace, but it has previously been saved in a small colourspace, then there's little you can now do about that. If you would have liked it to be in a small colourspace - you simply select that when exporting.
You simply don't need to bother about a file's colourspace or bit depth otherwise. LR takes care of making best use, of whatever is there.

  • Can't open an InDesign file off of an SMB share in Yosemite.

Anyone else having this issue? When I go to open a file off of our file server it tells me the file is in use, or that I don't have the correct permissions.  If I force SMB1 or CIFS, then I can open the file again.  Seems to only happen with InDesign files.

Ok I've been testing some things and here are the results...
Word files don't seem to open, if I double click on the file in Finder nothing happens. If I try to open the same file directly from Word I get an error saying: Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document, or the file name might contain invalid characters (for example, \/).
Powerpoint files open without any problem but saving them after some modification is not possible (This file is read-only. Do you want to save changes under a different name?) It's like Powerpoint opens a read-only file version.
Creating a new document in Indesign and then saving it onto the server is also not possible, this is the error I get: Cannot save "Untitled-1" under a new name. The file "DBTmp38..." is damaged (Error Code: 0).
When composing a new e-mail in Outlook for Mac and adding an attachment directly from the server, there is also an error: Message could not be saved. If I copy the file to my desktop and then use it as attachment the e-mail can be sent out.
I also think this is more Apple related then Adobe related. It clearly has something to do with rights/permissions. The cfis:// fix doesn't work. Wether I use smb:// or cfis:// or even something else, I always get these errors...

  • Can you open/edit indesign files on CS3 that were created using CS5?

I recently bought indesign CS5 and am using this for my internship; however, my boss is still using CS3 and said she could not open or edit the indesign file i sent her.  I looked under "export" to see if there was an option and did not find anything.  I am using a mac and I believe she is using a P.C., also, when I last sent her the file, I was still using my free trial - does any of this make a difference?  Please help!

This has been covered endless times but anyway, I'll do it again!
You have to export an idml file from CS5, then open that idml in CS4, export an inx file from there then open that in CS3 and save as an indd.  Sorry but there is no way round it, fullstop, end of story etc etc.  So if she is using CS3 and you're using CS5 there is no route between them unless you have CS4, and even then the route is littered with pitfalls!  Look here for a rather long discussion / sometimes rant on the subject.
Ultimately she'd have to upgrade, or you could see if you could buy a CS3 or 4 version but it is very hard to get a legitimate copy, the only way is buy it off someone you know and most people aren't selling because they're upgrading.
Best news last, there is a short term fix, go to this guys blog and you can download a trial version of CS4 which will last for a month.

  • Can't save an InDesign file

Often when I try to save an open InDesign file, it tells me "can't save file" and I have to use "Save As."
It seems to be that sometimes documents are opened as "Read Only"
    How do I avoid this?

Well you're savvy enough to understand Read Only...
What OS? Local files or across a network?
Check to see if there is an existing lock file in the target directy.

  • Can I read a .msg file on the Mac?

I received a file with a .msg ending, which I gather is Microsoft Outlook. When I clicked on it, my Parallels opened, but I am having no luck opening the file in Parallels, and everything freezes up and is very slow when I try to open Microsoft Outlook. My question is, is there a way I can download something so that I can read a .msg file in my Mac? I have more than one of these files, and it's important that I read them. Thanks for any help.

Here is some stuff I found via Google:
    http://www.fileguru.com/apps/macmsg_fileviewer

There is more - so try a google search if these don't work out for you.

    Hello I have a iMac with 3.4 GHZ intel core I7, memory 16 GB 1333 MHZ DDR3, and OS X 10.9.4 Software.
I have problems when I try to copy or modify any file from my MAC to MY PORTABLE DRIVE/DISQUE (external hard disk).

I do not know if I need some software such as: paragon or I need to configure my MAC,

    Thanks a lot

Click on it, choose Get Info from the File menu, and check the format.
If it's formatted as NTFS, reformat it as MS-DOS, exFAT, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as desired, or install software such as Paragon NTFS on the computer.
If it's formatted as FAT32 or exFAT, use the Disk Utility's Repair Disk command on it; this may also happen for a flash drive which is about to fail.
If it's formatted as Mac OS Extended, click Authenticate and provide your administrator password, or change the permissions on that specific folder in its Get Info window.

  • Enum code too large 64k limit

While compiling with JDK1.5 received a "code too large" error when trying to compile an enum. Apparently the 64k limit is imposed on the new enum spec. This restriction doesn't allow for enums with a large set of values which is impractical at best.
