Can't print after Tiger update

I updated from Panther to Tiger 10.4 today, and then did an update to 10.4.6.
Now I can't print. Tried "Save to PDF" from the File>Print menu. Nothing. Tried clicking on the "print" button. Nothing.
The Apple knowledge base only says something about deleting a Xerox plugin, which I didn't have, so I couldn't do that.
Anyone know what's going on? Thanks!

Not unusual to have this problem if you had printers installed before upgrading. Open the Printer Setup app and select "Reset Printing System" from the File menu. Then reinstall your printers. If still no joy, you might want to check your printer's mfgr's website for new (10.4) drivers.

  • Can't Print after Software Update

After completing an Apple software update which included Epson printer software update 2.7 I am unable to print. I get an error message; Error:/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/ MacOS/rasertoescpll failed. Can you please assist? Printer is Epson RX 650

I had this problem with the RX640; it seems to affect a lot of Espon printers going back a long time, not just the latest update. Apparently some resourceful person out there says it is due to trying to print a pdf generated from word and various other programs and getting rid of this many-headed beast of a problem can be quite tricky.
I first followed this http://kb.epson-europe.com/display/4n/kb/article.aspx?aid=3744&searchstring=&n=& tab=search&bt=4n&s= epson knowledge base article's instructions but had no joy. I then reinstalled Rosetta off my Snow Leopard install disk (which as an aside involved fixing my broken dvd drive!) and again had no joy, even after wiping the print settings, running the gutenprint uninstaller, deleting the drivers and trying to install the printer again using software updater. It seems like Epson software update 2.7 http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398 on the Apple website does not work properly for selected Epson printers.
To the solution. I downloaded and installed the previous Epson software update http://support.apple.com/kb/DL900 from the apple website and this finally did the trick. This is a beast of a file at 850MB compressed, containing drivers for ALL of Epson's printers so it does eat up some drive space. However as my printer is working again, I don't care!
FYI I have read various solutions that were successful for various people. I am not certain if the last step alone would have been sufficient to get my printer working or if the previous Epson KB steps and Rosetta reinstall played a part. I hope this issue is resolved in Lion in a few weeks time altho given Epson's past history, I'm not very confident.....

Some have reported success simply by reinstalling the update.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1586
Or download and apply, or reapply, the 10.6.8 Combo update first, then apply the Security Update again.

  • Can no longer properly print to colour laser printer after latest update

    Hi,
I've just updated my iLife '08/Leopard software using software update. It would appear that I can no longer print greeting cards etc. from iPhoto to my colour laser printer since this update. All photos are printed in a very pale yellow colour that is hardly visible.
I've tried a couple of things to diagnose the problem:
    1. Saved the file as a PS and printed it from a different machine running Tiger. Same result as before: Pale yellow.
    2. Viewed the PS file using Preview on the Tiger and Leopard machines. The colours were normal.
    3. Saved just the image (i.e., no greeting card pattern) to desktop and printed it from my Leopard machine. The picture printed out perfectly on the colour laser printer.
    4. Printed the greeting card to an inkjet. That seems to work, too.
    5. Just in case there was a problem with the new greeting card, I tried to print an old card that perfectly printed before. It, too, came out in a pale yellow.
So there appears to be some problem printing from the latest version of iPhoto to my colour laser printer. I did update the printer driver, just in case, but still have the same problem. Any ideas what else I could try?
The printer is an HP Color Laserjet 2550L

I have just discovered that I can properly print pictures from iPhoto to the colour laser, as long as I don't put them in a greeting card. So that seems to be the trigger.

  • Can't print after 10.1.3 update

I updated to Reader 10.1.3 and I can't print any pdf  documents, including those I could print before the update.  I followed the Troubleshoot PDF printing/Acrobat, Reader suggestions and nothing works. I updated my printer driver too.  The printer dialog box opens, and I click print, but nothing happens.  I use Windows 7.  Help!

Problems on the hard drive would be my guess. Here's the less invasive solution:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This will install 10.8.3 so no update will be required afterwards.

  • Can't Print after 10.5.8 update - HP 6310 + G5

I updated the G5 to 10.5.8 last night. Can't print today.
Everything is plugged in and connected.
    The printer was "published."
    I reset the printing services.
The printer no longer shows up as an option to add in the Preferences pane.
    HP has no updated drivers.
Here is the error code that was on the published page:
"fatal: Opening Printer Connection Failed: Unable to open the printer connection. Please check your printer connections and check for printer errors."
When connected directly to the printer, the MacBook (10.5.6, Intel) CAN print.
Sounds like 10.5.8 broke something... Any suggestions?
    TIA =)

    Hi,
I have the same issue, any application collapse when trying to print a document.
Sympthoms are: In Safari, Pages, Preview, anything, by going to File -> Print
the result is the application hang automatically launch the crash report, to send back to apple.
I first tried 2 days ago with the Software Update containing the HP Printing Drivers Update and anything happen.
My second attemp was the security update of this morning and anything happen.
Finally I followed the pragmatic approach of removing my HP PSC 1510 All in one printer from the System Preferences -> Print & Fax and then to add it again. It automatically selects the version 5 of the printing driver and after that single delete / add operation looks like I can print again from all applications.
I am really not sure if this will work with other printers, or in a shared environment, the funny thing was, that I could not print from my MacPro Server but I could print through my MacBook Pro laptop sharing the printing attached to the server. Terrible slow but it could print.
I hope this tip can help somebody.
    Regards,
    H

  • Can't print after 9.4.2

    Hi,
After updating Acrobat Pro from 9.4.1 -> 9.4.2 yesterday, a couple of our users can no longer print pdfs.  I've uninstalled and re-installed twice, and I can confirm that it is the 9.4.2 update that breaks it.  I print from 9.4.1, install the update, reboot, and can't print.  I've scrubbed the registry after the uninstall as best I could thinking there was a registry setting somewhere that broke, but no luck.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Bob

Same problem - got important PDF's to print off and cannot
Tried everything above without success - really getting p*ssed off
How can I revert back to 9.4.1 so I can continue to work ?
Running Windows 7 Ultimate and Acrobat Standard

  • IPads can't print after iOS 8

we're a large school district, with tons of iPads, most of which can go to iOS8 and probably will.
Printing is handled by having a central CUPS server with queues; each school has its own search domain for iOS and all CUPS queues in that domain are visible to ALL iOS devices searching that domain (in practise, on that site). i manually enter data in dns for these queues. Printers capable of direct AirPrint (new HPs, as that is the maker of most of our approved models) do not have CUPS queues or dns entries, and are visible to wireless devices on that site.
Now with iOS 8, things have changed.
    a) printing from the CUPS server no longer works. The list populates with the printer on the CUPS server, but ALL are greyed out, and selecting one just gets you back to the Print box with "Select Printer >" showing, not the printer name.
         i. i have been able to print to ONE HP401, right at my desk, directly. another HP401 in the same building, and a HP602 across the campus, i can see but are also greyed out and i cannot select them.
    b) names of the printers have changed, from the queue names i entered into DNS to generic model (room) in the text dns entry. i suspect i can work on that.
    c) before, users had to be absolutely certain that Double-sided was switched OFF, or nothing would print. Now when i printed to this HP401 behind me, i left Double-sided switched on and *it printed*. this would be *excellent* if we can get printing to actually work for all the enabled printers (eg - all printers on the CUPS server, and any HPs i've allowed to be seen directly).
This is a pain - everything i've found so far searching has address firmware updates on the printers, with printers apparently going into cybernetic loops when sent a job from the iOS device. This problem is different: we can see the printers, we CANNOT SELECT them. So it's not the printers themselves.
on my test iPad i've done the complete power-off, forget this network, disable WiFi location . . . nothing gets it to successfully select a CUPS queue to print.
Unfortunately, a school community cascades - once a teacher tells others they've updated, others will follow BEFORE finding out if it works or not. (Why testing wasn't done first, i don't know.) So i expect to be getting an avalanche of email soon . . . i'd like to be able to say yes, i've figured out/fixed the problem - and btw, double-sided now works! -- but i doubt it will be soon.
Please, anyone else having this issue?
    thank you!

I have the same problem with CUPs printers on my network, a 'legitimate' HP AirPrint printer works after update. iOS 7 devices on the same network are fine with the CUPs printers.
I think Apple have deliberately messed this up with iOS 8, look back at the history of the iOS releases. On every release from 4 they have taken new steps to break AirPrint so that it only works with approved printers. Originally it worked with a static DNS-SD config which was great, then it needed Bonjour, then it needed image/urf and a few other fields set. For iOS 8 they have done something else and not told anybody, but it seems like a deliberate act to ensure it only works with approved AirPrint printers.
There must be some agreement with the printer manufacturers or something for Apple to do this, I struggle to understand why Apple do this because for me it really annoys me. I do not mind everything else, but with every iOS release I know my printer is going to break until somebody smarter than myself figures out what needs to be changed. It is almost a cat and mouse game. Why do we have to play this?? I regret upgrading the HP printer so quickly, I should have scanned the network before the printer upgrade and then scanned again after the printer upgrade to find out what the differences were and then update the CUPs/AVAHI config with the differences (Assuming there were any, but my guess at the moment is a UUID field is required for the printer).
There is no reason at all why printing cannot work with just a DNS-SD entry as per iOS 4 the device just needs the entry point of the printer, you do not even need Bonjour for the active DNS (that change forced us to all use avahi with CUPs).
It is such a shame Apple pursue this route. AirPrint is a great technology and it could just work without all of this fuss and pain and without annoying the user base. Apple make so much money they really have no excuse to make things so difficult and close this down in an attempt to force consumers or schools such as yourselves to buy new printers. Somebody somewhere is getting some benefit from killing this connectivity it for sure is not the end user.

  • Can't print from Tiger to a shared printer on Mountain Lion

    Hello,
I have a branch office that's running Mountain Lion on one computer and Tiger on the other.  How can I print from the Tiger machine to a shared printer on the Mountain Lion computer?  I should point out that this isn't a problem when the printer is shared from the Tiger machine, just the other way around.
    Thanks,

  • Can't Print after using Migration Assistant, more

    Hi,
I recently used Migration Assistant to transfer all of my apps, files, data, ... from my Power PC G5 1.8mhz running 10.4.11 to my new-ish iMac 2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 10.6.8.  It seems like everything worked but I have a few issues.
    1.  I can't print anything now where as before I could on the iMac.  I get a printer error message
    Error: /System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed
    2.  I can access all of the old files of the G5 but I have to log out of the iMac user to one of my old user accounts.  I want to get all of those files into my iMac account and delete those old user accounts.  I especiallly want to get the old photos into my iMac user account's iPhoto.
Thanks for any help.  I'm feeling like an imbecile right about now.  ;-)
    -Don

You should not delete files on the new machine after running MA. The only files I would recommend deleting would be data files you no longer need, however to be safe use Time Machine to back up your machine. One never knows when you may need something again.

    Roger
