Can't print from HP LaserJet 8150n since upgrade to 10.5.6

Any advice would be appreciated. I have mistakenly used the "reset printer list" command (control-clicking in the Print & Fax prefs list) to wipe out all of my installed printers, and now I'm not seeing ANY of my drivers for my Epson Stylus Photo R2400 or my Dymo Labelwriter Twin Turbo, either. A bit frustrating.

You may need HP driver update 2.7.

Can not print with HP LaserJet 6L since the upgrade to Mavericks. Any alternative driver for this printer?

I have an HP LaserJet 5P and had the same problem. My LaserJet is connected to a D-Link ethernet print server, then to an Airport Express to support wireless printing.
As recommended in earlier posts, I first downloaded the Gutenprint HP drivers at Sourceforge, version 5.2.9 That did not work. Then found the reference to the Apple kb here: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl907
Downloaded these drivers. When setting up the printer, I got the autoselect option for Generic Postscript Printer and used that. Printer worked, but printed out garbage. I then deleted the printer, and this time selected the HP LaserJet 5P CUPS + Gutenprint v.5.2.9 THAT WORKED! I don't know if was the combination of downloading the drivers from Sourceforge and the Apple kb, or just the Apple kb that solved the problem, but I'm glad this is now sorted.
I was a bit surprised when I hit this snag to begin with because the last upgrade I did from Lion to Mountain Lion, I did not have this issue. It was seamless.

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee

  • Can't print from Appleworks 6

My wife's computer is a G4 Sawtooth, running OSX 10.2. Printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R220. All of the sudden, we can't print from Appleworks word processing. When we try, the printer window from the Print Center says that it's opening communications with the printer for a bit, but after a short time stops the printer and quits trying. The thing is, we can print from MS Word. Also, this computer is networked to my G4 ibook (10.3.9), which has an Epson Stylus Photo 825 attached. Using printer sharing, I can print through Appleworks to the Stylus 825 from the Sawtooth.
This is a sudden onset problem. Yesterday she could use the R220. Today she can't. I've tried reinstalling the printer driver, with no effect.
At about the same time, in what may or may not be a related problem, I stopped being able to print from either computer to my HP laserjet 4050tn, which is on an ethernet print server. Reinstall doesn't help.
I had an intel mini whose harddrive died attached to the network. The mini is still out for repair, but I've also used both of these printers successfully since the mini was disconnected.
    Any ideas?
duo core mini; ibook G4: G4 Sawtooth   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   Epson Stylus Photo R220 printer

Sudden onset of problems is a sure sign of corrupt preferences. Printing problems are among many that may be cured by deleting the AppleWorks preferences. See my user tip, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly, for more information.

  • Can not print from preview after Lion Update

I can't print from preview since I updated to Lion. After I hit command P or select print from the file tab preview totally freezes up and gives me the spinning wheel of death until I force quit preview. I have no issues printing from anything else, such as word, excel, web pages.  So I don't think it's a printer/driver error.  Help?

I would still mention what printer you have and make sure you have the latest printer driver.

  • How Can I Print from my Microsoft Surface Running Windows 8 RT?

How Can I Print from my Microsoft Surface Running Windows 8 RT?
Most new wireless printers won’t have a problem printing from the Microsoft Surface with Windows 8 RT.  All you should have to do for these printers is tell them to print and they will.  Older wireless, Ethernet, and USB printers might not have an officially supported driver in Windows 8 RT, but there is a way to get the printers working.  There are different requirements depending on how the printer is being connected to the Surface.
Note:  All steps below are only for PhotoSmart, OfficeJet, DeskJet, and other HP Inkjet printers.  These steps are not for Laserjet printers or printers from other manufacturers.  These steps may not work for all Inkjet printers.  If these steps don’t work, try different drivers from the list until you find one that will work (you’ll understand what I mean once you follow the steps below).  If none of the drivers work, your printer will not work with the Surface.
For networked printers (wireless or Ethernet), all you need is either the Surface keyboard, or an external USB keyboard to connect to the Surface.  This just makes anything you have to type easier to type.  You will also need to have the Surface and the printer connected to the same network.
Starting from the right edge, swipe your finger left on the Surface screen to bring up the Charms bar.
    Touch Search.
Below the Search Box, touch Settings.
In the search Box, type Devices and Printers.
    Touch Devices and Printers.
    Touch Add a Printer.
Touch “My printer is not listed”.
Select the TCP/IP option and touch Next.
Enter the printer’s IP address and touch Next.  Note:  You can get this from the printer’s Network Configuration Page, or from your router’s DHCP list.
The Surface will locate the printer and try to install it.  The install will fail and the Surface will ask you what you want to do, search the internet for the driver, or manually install the driver.  Choose to install the driver yourself.
Touch “I want to choose from a list of drivers”.
If no drivers appear in the list, make sure the box next to “Show compatible drivers” is not checked.
Choose HP from the Manufacture list.
Choose DeskJet PCL 3 Class Driver from the Drivers list.  If that driver doesn't work, try using the Photosmart PCL3 driver, or the Officejet PCL 3 driver.  (Thank you JonW for letting me know about these other alternates. )
    Touch Next.
    Touch Finish.
    Test printing.
For USB connected printers, you will need a USB cord to attach the printer to the computer.
Connect the printer to the computer via USB.
Windows will try to find the drivers but will not be able to.
Here Windows may ask you if you want to choose the driver to install.  If it does skip to step 14 below.
Starting from the right edge, swipe your finger left on the Surface screen to bring up the Charms bar.
    Touch Search.
Under the Search box, touch Settings.
In the Search box, type Device Manager.
    Touch Device Manager.
Touch View and select Show Hidden.
Search for the printer in the Device Manager.  It should be under Other Devices with a yellow caution sign beside it.
Select the printer from the list.
    Touch Action.
Touch Update Driver, or Install whichever one it displays.
The Surface will ask you what you want to do, search the internet for the driver, or manually install the driver.

  • Can't print from iTunes nor Safari

    Hi
I have a printing issue, that I simply can't solve by myself, so I need some advice!
The problem is that I can't print from Safari nor iTunes and maybe other applications aswell, but I can print from Pages without any problems at all!
    *In iTunes*
Today I told a friend about a playlist that I have made in iTunes and he wanted to see it, so I decided to print it to him as a PDF-file. I clicked "Print" in the File menu, and the dialog where you choose the kind of print and theme you want showed up as expected. I chose the options I wanted and clicked the "Print" button and a new dialog showed up (possibly the one to choose whether you want it as print or PDF) but it disappeared instantly! I tried a second time, but the same thing happened, I barely got to see the dialog before it closed by itself.
    *In Safari*
When I try to print an article e.g., the drop down printing window appears, but after trying to save the print as PDF, nothing happens and the drop down windows will not go away, so I have to force quit Safari to visit another website.
    *In Pages*
I click "Print" and it prints as I want. It seems that there is no trouble in Pages.
I have tried deleting the "com.apple.print"-files in ~/Library/Preferences and it had a small effect. The dialog in iTunes was visible in more than a second before it disappeared, but the next time I tried, it disappeared instantly again.
I have also tried installing all the printer drivers on the Snow Leopard DVD, but also without any luck.
And yep, I have googled for more than an hour on this issue and found no answer.
    +My software:+
    +Mac OS 10.6.3+
    +iTunes 9.1.1+
    +Safari 5.0+
    +Pages '09 v. 4.0.3+
If some of you have suggestions that can solve my problem, please help me!

I found out that I don't need to Force Quit Safari, and I can actually use Safari after attempting printing, but with this dialog box always on top! http://cl.ly/4983702c22817d87f6a7
Thank you for the screen shot. Expanding the dialog probably wouldn't help, but it might be worth a quick try. And "12" is the fake printer?
    John Blanchard1 wrote:
There should be something somewhere in Console, especially if you are force quitting Safari.
Even though you don't need a printer to create PDFs, you can try adding a "fake" IPP printer in AddPrinter using the Generic PPD to see if that makes a difference.
You could also try launching Safari from Terminal:
    /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/./Safari
and then see if Terminal gives any indication of where Safari is stalling.
The Console tells me this, which is the only Safari-related: http://cl.ly/6b1dd724be75085d2755
That's probably what's killing the dialog - the key is most likely related to the print dialog UI.
I really appreciate your helpfulness, though it hasn't helped me further. Right now, I'm thinking about deleting the entire HD and re-install Snow Leopard, because I have some issues with Mail as well.
I am happy to try to help, and it's all guesswork since I can't reproduce the issue here. And I am sorry it has not helped. Reinstalling is a last resort, but it sounds like the best plan now, especially since you are having issues with other applications.
Sorry again not to have been able to help.

  • Can't print from Intel Mac w/Snow Leopard to HP 2600

Can't print from Intel Mac w/Snow Leopard to HP 2600.  Upgraded from OS 10.4 and printer showed on printer list along with an Epson scanner. but continually shows printer as offline.  I finally deleted the HP Color Laserjet 2600n from the printer list.  When I attempted to re-install it, it doesn't find the printer at all.  I haven't attempted to use the scanner.  I also went to HP and downloaded the driver, no luck.  I've restarted the computer multiple times, tried it with the printer on, and printer off, as well as pulled the usb cable in and out both ends.  No error message on the printer display and it gpes through normal warmup until it shows the green light.  I run software update and it shows no updates needed.  Help!

When you press print the first window is pretty basic.
When you select print on that the next window should have an advanced option.
Click that and see if any of the options in the 3rd dropdown box allow you to specify the 'paper tray'.
    AC "
In this new windaow, click "advanced", go to "paper type/quality" and choose " best" and a photo paper. Then you will be able to choose a paper source (photo tray).
Once you have these settings, under presets do "save as", and you can choose the preset instead of going to advanced.
If you have the latest software and drivers downloaded from HP, this will work.

  • Can't print from a windows pc to network printer

I am having a network printer problem.
I have a Canon printer plugged into the usb port of my Mac-Mini.  I can print fine from the Mac to the printer.  I have network sharing enabled for the printer.
I have a Dell PC connected to an Airport Express via internet cable as part of my network.
I have bonjour installed on the Dell
Bonjour can see the networked canon printer and will install it as the default printer for the Dell PC.
However, I can not print from the Dell unless I have the wrong printer driver (an HP driver) installed.  As long as the wrong driver is installed I can print the first page of a document only.
If I install the correct Canon driver, the printer ceases to function.
I tried connecting the printer to the airport express via usb.  Once I did this, I was able to print from the Dell pc with no problem using the correct driver.  But then, I could no longer print from the Mac-mini via the Airport Express connected printer.  The Mac could see the printer and identify that it was connected via Airport.  And the Mac will allow me to connect to the Airport connected printer .  But as soon as I trie to print something from the Mac, it fails and gives an error message or pauses and says the drivers may not be correct.
Can anyone help me with this issue?

    Detective445 wrote:
I believe that there may not be a solution to this because the printer will only recognize one set of drivers.  Since one set of drivers is for the Mac and one set is for a PC It will only work with one machine or the other.
Then you should be able to print from the Mini after resetting the printer, e.g. by turning it off and back on after a short while. But it sounds as if this won't help either, and to be frank, it's not an "acceptable" explanation, either...
So, what's the error message? Unless known, we can only keep guessing:
You've reset the printer system in the Mini? Eventually consider deleting the Canon drivers manually afterwards, and only then add the printer again and re-install its software.
If that doesn't help either, the issue must be a communication problem, meaning I'd recommend to double-/triple-check all comm-related things as well.

  • Can't print from Ubuntu or Win 7

Hello. I have an Arch x86_64 box which is my HTPC and print server. The printer is shared from CUPS and SAMBA. I can see it from a Win 7 and an Ubuntu 10.10 box. But I can't print anything from those machines. Not from another Arch box either. I have a strange issue with permissions or path or whatever so I must give su - command to use some commands as root and I'm not able to shut down my computer with sudo halt as an example. I did set up my box as usual a week ago and that su thing is new to me. Can it be related to each other this permission with su and CUPS printing problem?

Did you tell CUPS to allow remote printing?
It's been awhile since I've set up cups, and I don't even have it installed atm, but, if I remember right, there are options to allow/disallow remote printing, and also for certain ranges of host ips, and even for specific users.
So, what does your cups setup look like?
How about Samba?  I'm thinking that your problem is more with CUPS than SAMBA.
Can you print from the computer that you have cups set up on as the server?
CUPS also has a web interface where you can adjust these options.  Sorry, I don't remember the port number that you need to use to access it, but that should be in the man page.
As for the su thing, definately.  It sounds to me like you aren't in the lp group, which is default for printer access.
