Can't print from my mac mini on a home network

My husband died suddenly and has left me with a load of networking problems. Everything was fine (I think) until I changed my ISP. My husband had set up our printers on a wired network, and I know wires go in and out of machines and routers, but there is a lot of physical rubbish about that trying to find how it all fits togther isn't easy.
He worked everything from his computer, a Mac Air (bought January 2011) running 10.8.3. I have a Mac mini (bought August 2012) running 10.8.2, so it looks like I'm just sluggish without him to prod me to get updated.
I can print from the Air, but I can't from my mini. Do I need to have file sharing, do I need a location code or something, if so, what is the location I should use? He knew all this amd we were going to sit down and make a manual for me as the techie thickie, but his cancer suddenly took a turn for the worse and he died suddenly and unexpectedly before we could sort it out.
I am fairly computer literate, htough I'm not the cleverest at computers, but I am streets ahead of many at the office, some of whom don't even know what a key stroke is, honest!
Thanks
Tim

I assume these are Ethernet cables running to the Routers.

  • Can't print from Intel Mac w/Snow Leopard to HP 2600

Can't print from Intel Mac w/Snow Leopard to HP 2600.  Upgraded from OS 10.4 and printer showed on printer list along with an Epson scanner. but continually shows printer as offline.  I finally deleted the HP Color Laserjet 2600n from the printer list.  When I attempted to re-install it, it doesn't find the printer at all.  I haven't attempted to use the scanner.  I also went to HP and downloaded the driver, no luck.  I've restarted the computer multiple times, tried it with the printer on, and printer off, as well as pulled the usb cable in and out both ends.  No error message on the printer display and it gpes through normal warmup until it shows the green light.  I run software update and it shows no updates needed.  Help!

When you press print the first window is pretty basic.
When you select print on that the next window should have an advanced option.
Click that and see if any of the options in the 3rd dropdown box allow you to specify the 'paper tray'.
    AC "
In this new windaow, click "advanced", go to "paper type/quality" and choose " best" and a photo paper. Then you will be able to choose a paper source (photo tray).
Once you have these settings, under presets do "save as", and you can choose the preset instead of going to advanced.
If you have the latest software and drivers downloaded from HP, this will work.

  • Can i print from my mac to a win 7 printer?

I have done a search and was unable to find the answer to my question. I have tried to figure out how to print from my MBP to my wifes printer that is attached to her windows 7 computer. I am able to print to that printer over the network with a windows computer but not my mac.
Does anyone know how to get this done or if it is even possible?

Printing from your Mac to a printer attached to a WIndows 7 printer can indeed be done.
It use to be quite easy under Windows XP or even Vista, But Microsoft changed the SMB code in Windows 7, making it more of a headache.
Here is how to share your Windows 7 printer:

Hi MaryEtta, and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you are having issues printing.  I would like to help.
I am including a document to help determine whch version of the Mac OS you are using:
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
After the updates, I would recommend reinstalling the HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a Drivers.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Can't print from my new Mini-HP 952C via IP print server

I have a 1 week old Mini that I cannot get to print on my existing home network. It works with my router just fine for internet access, but I have a Netgear print server on there to share my printer with my home office laptop and now the Mini. I set up the printer with IPP protocol, it's at 192.168.0.6 and it's using the HP 900 series Gimp drivers.
However, nothing prints..the printer never even wakes up. I have 3 things sitting in the queue just waiting for days now.
I know it works because I can fire up my Windows laptop and print to the same 192 destination and it goes.
I'm brand new to the Mac world so I am still learning the in's and out's but this one is driving me nuts.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

I have a similar problem with my wireless print server.
I have a G5 and an Intel Mac mini and have no problems with the G5 or, with the mini booted into Windows via bootcamp, but have not been able to get the mini to print running Mac OS. Updated to the lastest SW just this morning.
The print queue just goes to stopped with no explanation or diagnostics.

  • Can't print from my mac to my HP Colour Laserjet 1600

I have a HP Colour Laserjet 1600. Whenever I print anything from my mac, a icon appears in the dock but, disappears after about 5 seconds and nothing gets printed. Can someone please tell me what I can do?

The third party HPIJS drivers do not support the LaserJet 1600 on a Mac.  You can view the list of printers that are supported by the HPIJS drivers at http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/hpijs# Printers.
There are third party drivers that do support the LaserJet 1600, but there are no Mac installer packages available for them.  You would have to compile them from source code.  These foo2hp drivers can be found at http://foo2hp.rkkda.com/.

  • How can I print from work to my APEn USB home printer?

    Hello all,
01--I just bought my first AirPort Extreme(n) router and wanted to configure my home network so that I can print over the internet from work.
02--I’ve already enabled the “AirPort Utility” > “Settings” > “Printers” > “Share printers over Ethernet WAN port” option.
    03--My work computer is a 1.5 ghz 12” PowerBook G4 running 10.4.10.
My home printer is a Brother HL 2040.
03-- I am able to print wirelessly whilst on my own home network.
04--I’ve already tried unsuccessfully to use the following settings: “Printer Setup Utility” > “Printers” > “Add Printer...” > “IP Printer” > “Internet Printing Protocol - IPP” > “Address = My Home’s Internet Connection IP". However, I keep getting the never ending message the status Network host ‘IP address’ is busy; will try in 30 seconds...
05-- I’ve already noticed some unanswered posts by other users. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4592342
    Many thanks!!!!!!!

I might be wrong, but I don't think you can. Inorder to print directly from your computer at work you would have to have access to your wireless system from that computer. The only other thing I can think of is through file sharing but then again it seems like you have to have some method of accessing one of your computers at home via the internet.
A very primative way of printing would be to send yourself an email with an attachment of whatever you wanted to print. Open the email when you get home and print the attachment.
I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear.
If there is a way there are some pretty sharp guys on the discussion forum and I am sure one of the will answer.

  • Printing on a shared printer from our new iPad on our home network

How can I send a print job to a shared printer on our home network?  The iPad uses this network's WiFi capability.

It depends on the printer. iOS devices can only print directly to AirPrint printers. All AirPrint printers are wireless but not all wireless printers are capable of using AirPrint.
To print directly from an iPad / iPhone you will need an AirPrint compatible printer or another device to act as a print server. That can be a Mac computer running Printopia ($19.95 with free trial) or handyPrint (donation - supported). The Mac must be "on" but may be asleep for them to work. Equivalent PC options may exist but you're on your own finding them.
You can also buy this standalone print server:
    http://www.lantronix.com/it-management/xprintserver/xprintserver.html
These options enable you to use any printer available to your network, even older ones that may predate AirPrint by decades.
Otherwise you will need to buy an AirPrint printer or multifunction device.

  • Mac Mini running my home network

I have a MacMini, a Mac Book Pro, and an iMac. I would like my iTunes, iPhoto, and all archived documents stored on the Mac Mini I also want my mobile devices iPhone and iPad to be synced to the MacMini? On this kind of networking configuration my knowledge is weak so if there good documents out there that can help (preferably with images) or I don’t mind having tech support walk me through the process so I get it right. All suggestions welcome

For sharing iTunes content, you could just set up Home Sharing in iTunes on the
Mini and have it running all the time.  Then the Macs could connect via sharing
to the Mini to access the content.  All the content would be available and you
could "cherry pick" those items you wish to keep locally on each of the Macs.
As for syncing iDevices, if you have iTunes up and running in the scenario
above, iTunes would just need to be running under the account that the
iDevices have been synced to in the past.  You then can set up the
iDevices to WiFi sync to that iTunes.
Go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ and look into sharing to see
if Home Sharing will do what you want.
Go here to see how to set up WiFi syncing:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386
I beleive iPhoto has similar capabilities for sharing, but since I don't use
iPhoto I will defer that to someone else.
For documents, just simply set up a folder on the Mini and set up
sharing priveledges for it.  You will also need to allow file sharing
    in System Preferences.

  • Can I share Apps between Macs on the same Home Network?

I tried to do this today by trying to import an App that my wife bought for her Mac. the system went as far as importing the app, but then when I went to try and open it the machine told me that I didn't have the authorization permissions to use the app on my machine.
what I'm wondering is whether that message has to do with the security settings on our network or computers or whether it is coming from the Mac App Store itself. Does anybody know? Is it possible, in the first place, to share Mac Store apps between computers with different user IDs on the same homw network?

Funny thing was I did all that before trying to 'share' said app. That was why I was befuddled by the error message. I'm still not sure why I got it. Second time thru I added the Mac App Store to 'allowing incomming connections' under security preferences, then tried it again and it worked fine. I'm not convinced though that that had anything to do with why it worked on the second go round. I like to understand why these things work and why they sometimes don't, so I'm still a little mystified. But..... now it works. I installed Keynote, Pages, and a whole host of other apps off of my wife's Mac App Store page on my Mac with no hiccup at all. *Big Smile*
    Thanks for the reference article.

  • Can I print from multiple Macs?

I have a G4 Quicksilver, a B&W G3, & a clamshell iBook. I use an AirPort Extreme base station with the iBook. My 2 towers are connected to a bridge. (I have a broadband connection). Is there any way I can print to my HP920c from all 3 Macs using the base station (or any way)?
    Thanks!

Yes, you should be able to do that.
Depends on system software - need OS X (10.2.3 or higher) to print to AEX.

  • Can I print from my iPad mini?

I'm trying to determine if wireless printing is a possibility with my iPad mini. Has anyone tried or been successful with this?

It is possible. If your printer supports AirPrint then you should be able to print just by the iPad and printer being connected to the same nwifi network - the printers that support AirPrint, and some info about it, are on this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
If it doesn't support AirPrint then some printer manufacturers have their own apps in the store which work with some of their models e.g. Epson have an iPrint app, and HP have an ePrint app
Otherwise there are third-party printer apps such as PrintCentral Pro and Print n Share which might work with it

  • How can I print from a Windows PC to an AppleTalk networked printer?

I have a Windows Dell laptop (NT w/SP 2) that normally prints on a Windows network at my office.
At home, I have an AppleTalk network that includes a cable modem, router, various Macs connected by either Ethernet or wireless, and an HP 2100TN printer connected to that router via Ethernet. My AirPort Extreme also connects to that hub, so the network is a combination of Ethernet wired and wireless devices. When I connect the Windows laptop to this network (either wirelessly or by Ethernet), it cannot find the printer (although I am able to get to the Internet). I've tried to install Bonjour (Bonjour64Setup.exe) on the Windows machine, but it refuses (comes back with a message saying that "Bonjour is not a valid Win32 application").
I am trying to find out how to get the Windows laptop to find and use the HP networked printer.

Thanks for the various suggestions (the successful one was the HP Wizard).
I couldn't find the IP address of the printer (the test page-- when printed directly from the printer-- does not show the IP address, nor does System Profiler), and the method used for the Airport Extreme USB printer was not necessary (although that may come in handy, some day).
I downloaded the HP Network Printer Wizard which made the whole process fairly easy and worked. The HP Wizard found the printer and got the printer up on the Windows printer list. It really didn't need for me to give it the IP address (it found it on its own).
    Thanks.
