Can't Print in Color to Laserjet 4550?!

Connecting to an HP Color Laserjet 4500 via AppleTalk, and it defaults to black and white output all the time. If I manually change the colorsync profile sometimes it will print in color, but not always.
Anyone have this problem and know a fix?

A bit more info. My wife changed her PC to a 2008 iMac. I have an old [10yrs] HP Color laserjet 4550. We have a hard wired network in the house connected via a Linksys router. My computer is a Dell PC laptop running XP, my son has a desktop PC running XP, my wife has a new iMac [2 mths old] running OS 10xxxxx. We do not have a network printer as the 4550 is not the n version. I want to connect the 4550 to the USB port on my wife's computer. The printer cable used to connect to the 25 pin Parallel port on her old PC. I bought a 25 pin parallel to USB converter, plugged it in to her USB port and nothing. I am an engineer but a Mac is a totally different animal to me. I was bought up with 8088, Pentium bases computers and am I right in thinking Appletalk is now an obsolete product? My wife can connect to the internet and has complete web functionality. The only thing I can't do with the Mac that I could do with the PC is get the printer working. I have downloaded the 4550 driver from the HP web site but I think it is for the new 4550 and not the old one. Am I better off just buying a new color printer and be done with it or is it possible for this old, but in my opinion fantastic, printer to be connected in the way I am proposing? All help appreciated

  • Can't print in color from new iMac running 10.10

I recently purchased a new iMac to replace my 10 year old machine. Its great. However, I can't print in color to my HP Photosmart 7510 all in one. Its not the printer because I printed a test page from the printer and it was color. I have tried to print from iPhoto and Creative Cloud Photoshop CC. I left a post on the HP forum and also left a question on the HP support site and have gotten nothing. If anyone can help me with this, I will be grateful. Hope I don't also need a new printer. I uploaded the latest driver for the printer. Maybe that is the problem.
Thank you in advance. You guys on this site are awesome!

    Hi,
When you print are you sure that you have print in color selected? if you do then try re-installing your printer. This video helped me.

  • Can't print in color

I have an HP Photosmart C4680 and I can't print in color! I haven't used the printer in probably 6 months and I just put in brand new cartridges. I can COPY in color but when I print, it comes out in black and white. I've unchecked "black and white" and "gray scale." I'm using a Mac computer.
    Please help! Thanks!!

    Hello colorprinter,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your Photosmart C4680 will not print in color ink. I will do my best to assist you! What is your operating system on your Mac computer? Click here to find out: Mac.
I would recommend printing a Quality Diagnostic Report on your printer to make sure the colors are printing correctly. Please follow this HP document on Troubleshooting Print-Quality Issues. I realize you successfully copied a document in color. If this page comes out perfect, then I would suggest uninstall/reinstall the software. As you stated you did uncheck the black and white/grayscale option.
Follow this HP document on Uninstalling the Printer Software. Now, you want to install the full feature software from the HP website here. Choose your correct operating system.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Can't print HP Color LaserJet 5550dn

I've just upgraded to CS3 form individual CS2 applications and now I can't print to my printer. I go to File>Print and my printer shows up in the printer list. I choose it, hit print and it looks like it's processing for a few seconds, the data light on the printer blinks for a few seconds and then everything just stops. I can print to another postscript printer perfectly fine, and also to the pdf 9 printer. I appreciate any help. Thanks.

  • Can't print to a HP LaserJet 5000 we've used for years

We're a design studio with 4 Mac's and have had this HP LaserJet 5000 printer for a longtime and love it. A real work horse and low maintenance. Two of our cpu's are running Mavericks, 2 are running 10.7.5 and the older one is still running 10.5.8. This older 10.5.8 cpu has always worked flawlessly with this printer. IT'S ALWAYS CONNECTED to the printer. But after recent OSX upgrades my 10.7.5. CPU, my Mavericks iMac and recently purchased Mavericks MacPro cannot print to this printer UNLESS I have the older 10.5.8 cpu awake and running. If I shut this older cpu down or put it to sleep, all the other computers can't print to this printer. This older mac is going to be retired soon so I have to find a way that the remaining 4 CPU''s can connect to the Airport Extreme (which they do now) but can also see the printer and I can actually print from it. I've downloaded the latest HP driver software here at apple that was suppose to fix this but nothing. It seems like this older CPU is acting like a server and all requests have to go through it. How I stop this so that each independent CPU can print through the wireless Air Port Extreme.
As a test, I even took a 10' Cat 5 Ethernet cable and plugged it into one of CPU ports and then directly into the back of Printer, bypassing the whole wireless approach, went to Pref's and activated Ethernet 2. CPU still can't print to it. This printer on has Ethernet. Over the years we just set up our AirPort Extreme, plug a cat 5 cable from there to a 5 way ethernet splitter and from there 1 cat 5 goes to the printer. So as I have said everything works great IF I have the older CPU up and running but what I'm I going to do with I retire that unit.
Need some help here please. I been working with Mac's since 1988 and consider myself a power user but this one has really got me.
    Suggestions…?

Did you read my reply here: Printing concerning an older HP LaserJet 5000.

  • How can I print without color?

How can I print without my color cartridge in my printer, I have a HP Deskjet 3510. I cant find only print in black in white in the setting on my printer.

    Hi,
Actually we call it as Grayscale. But Grayscale is a mixture of all colors. If you only wish to print Black & White only, you need to set "Black Ink only" as default. Please try:
The setup may vary from printer to printer but basically (for Windows):
    (a) Double click printer icon on desktop,
    (b) Click Set Preferences,
    (c) Click Advanced,
    (d) Select "Black Ink only" for Print in Grayscale
    (e) Click Ok/Apply ...
    Regards.

  • I can't print to my HP laserjet 2200

After installing Mac OS 10.4.4 Tiger on my Mac G4, Illustrator CS2, version 12.0.1, Adobe Acrobat and InDesign won't allow me to print to my HP LaserJet 2200.The error message says the PPD is wrong. I can use my Epson printer, and the LaserJet works as usual in Word and Mail, and even in Photoshop CS. It was printing fine until OS 10.4.4. It seems to be the Adobe products mentioned that have a problem. The printer uses a USB port, and shows up correctly in the System Profiler and in the Printer Setup Utility. I also repaired permissions. Can anyone tell me how to regain the use of my printer?

success at last! I somehow found PPD drivers for HP laserjet printers on the Adobe website. http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=44&platform=Macintosh
Nowhere on the Adobe website do I see any indication that this PPD needs to be added when upgrading to OS 10.4 Tiger. Nor is it on the Apple site. They really should make an effort as there are pages of Forum postings regarding this problem.
I had to upgrade Stuffit to 10x as well in order to expand the download. Once I did that the old HP2200 printer file had to be deleted from the Setup Utility, and the new printer driver added. After doing all that, my print dialog windows returned to normal and printing was restored. Thanks for your help. It was a nightmare. By the way, I did try the trial version of Fixamc, which didn't work, but cleaned up some files. They were very responsive to my e-mail request for assistance.

  • HP officejet Pro 8000 Can't print when color cart is empty enven when printing in grey scale

I do not use color in my printing.  Nonetheless when the printer says my color cartdridge is empty I can not print.  I spent a $100 on color cartdridge and never used them.  They now show empy and I can't print.  Is there a work around or should I just junk this printer.  Thanks for your help.
    Bob

    Hello Bobmcclammy,
I can understand the frustration when the printer, in your case the Officejet Pro 8000, stops and tells you to change inks you are not even using. I too have fought with this in the past. Unfortunately, there is no "work around" for such an issue, at least that I have been able to find.
Even when printing black text only, for example, a resume, the printer will be using a subtle amount of color as a base. Printhead maintenance also will chip away at the ink, this is to ensure the ink is not drying up within the print system. This information will explain more: Ink Usage in Inkjet Printers.
What I have done in order to get the most out of the printer ink is, set the printer in a black only grey scale mode. This needs to be set in the printing preferences in the print driver installed on the computer.
The inks will still need to be replaced, but it should help for the future.

  • Can't print in color from iPhoto

When I try to print a photo from iPhoto, using my color printer, I get a black & white print (not even greyscale). I can print in color from other applications, just not from iPhoto (but I think I used to print in color from iPhoto). Any clues out there?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again. Next, remove the printer from the Print and Fax preference pane and reinstall. Also, depending on your printer brand, check the Apple Downloads page for the new printer drivers offered by Apple. Those might help.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Photosmart Premium C309g-m can't print the color purple

I know how it sounds.  But any image that contains purple instead prints a red / brown color.  My fiance' owns a baking business.  Her main logo's contain the colors, black, silver, dark purple and light purple.
I've replaced the cartridges, aligned and cleaned the print heads.  I've tried every printer setting in the "HP Solution center" application.  Also every print setting in Photoshop CS4.  Nothing seems to help.  We paid a couple of hundred for this printer.  We purchased this to create business cards, brochures, logo's, photo's of her work and completely surprised that it can't handle a color like "Purple".  Our 6 year old HP OfficeJet V40 (Now deceased) could handle all colors with ease.
Does anyone have any ideas, maybe there is a setting we're missing?
    Thanks.
    Bryan

Try COPYING a page with purple color on it. If it prints the color, then the printer is fine, and there may be a color management issue in your PC. If it doesn't print purple when copying too, then the printhead has a problem. You should call HP Tech Support and ask for a printhead replacement.

  • Help -Can't print to my HP LaserJet via Ethernet Bridge

I have a new MacBook Pro with OS X 10.4.5. I'm trying to print with my old HP Laserjet 4MP Postcript printer. The printer is an old serial port printer connected to an Asante Ethernet Bridge with an Ethernet cord that plugs into my computer. This has worked fine for years on my G4 with OS 10.3. But, as soon as I try to use the same connection with the same settings on my new MBP, I get nothing.
Printer Setup finds the drivers for this printer no problem. Connected via AppleTalk. However, when I send something to print it never prints. The printer window just keep saying "Waiting for Job to Complete..."
Any ideas why I can't print. I've repaired permissions and I search other forums, but other people seem to be able to print like this???
Or, are there any alternative drivers that I could use to access this printer?
    Thanks!
    Laura

I don't have an answer but can suggest a couple of things. I use an old HP Laserjet 2100 with built-in ethnernet. I don't use Appletalk to print but IP printing. Your bridge must have a TCP/IP address. You might be able to use IP printing to send directly to that. Another idea is maybe you need to enable Appletalk on the MBP. By default it's disabled you can turn it on in the networking panel. You might already have that so I'm not sure if that would help. One last thing might if you have the firewall on in the sharing preferences that could be blocking it also.

  • I can't print in color (Photosmart C4750)

I'm using Windows 7 64 bit with my HP Photosmart C4750 and it won't allow me to print in color.  More precisely, i can print in grey scale, but anything in color just doesn't show up in the final product.  I've ruled out the obvious, my color cartridge is almost full, and detected.

See the troubleshootig steps in this page.
