Can't print in Photoshop

I'm running Photoshop CS3 on an Intel iMac and when I hit command p I get an error message saying I need to install a printer in order to print. When I look at the drop down menu all printing options are grayed out.
I have an Epson R340 that is definitely installed and can be used by all other apps, including all the other Adobe CS3 apps, and I have been printing out of Photoshop ever since CS3 came out - until now. It did this once last week, I quit PS then restarted it and I could print, but now restarting Photoshop doesn't fix it.
Went back to do some more testing. When I opened up a couple of jpegs Print was no longer grayed out and clicking on it brought up the correct print screen.
So I went back to the original file and tried that again, this was a PSD file with layers and spot color channels. Print was not grayed out but when I selected it I got the same error message and Print went gray again.
So I went and opened up a number of other files of various types, every one got the correct print dialogue box, no problem. I opened up the file that caused the problem and tried that one again and this time it worked fine.
If anyone knows what is going on here I'd appreciate some knowledge on what controls the printing process because I'm sure this is going to happen again.

I am having the same exact problem. Made several prints yesterday with no problem then all of a sudden I get the pop-up message "Before you can perform printer-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer." Clicking OK on that, another pop-up: "Could not complete the Print command because of a problem using the Adobe Color Engine."
The printer shows up in System Preferences. I tried closing Photoshop and re-starting, and I tried shutting down the computer and starting over - no help.
This is with a MacBookPro 2.4GHz, 2 GB ram, OS X 10.5.6,  Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1)

  • I can't print with Photoshop cs6.

I can't print with Photoshop (CS6). My printer (HP iP6700D) works correct with every program, except Photoshop. When I choose File>Print, there appears only an error-message. And the command-line turns into grey.

In the meanwhile I detected the problem. I made a new user account in windows and now it works correctly. So it isn't a photoshop problem but probably a register error. I have to find out furtherThanks for your reaction.

  • Can't print from Photoshop CC 2014

I very seldom need to print directly from Photoshop, but today I do. Today I discovered that I cannot print from Photoshop, because Photoshop stops working when I click 'Print'. I don't even get far enough to select a printer from the list. I get a Windows message in a little box -
"Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"
I can print from every other program on my PC, including InDesign, so it would seem that the problem is solely with Photoshop. I'm using Windows 7 64bit.
Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.

OS X Mavericks: Set up a printer  <==== link
OS X Mavericks: Set up a printer
If you connect a USB printer directly to your Mac, or add a AirPrint-compatible printer to your wireless network, as soon as you turn the printer on it’s ready to print with no additional setup required. For other printers, you may have to complete a few steps to add the printer.
Important: OS X is compatible with most common printers and downloads the latest printer software automatically. To make sure you have the latest software, don’t install the software that came with the printer or from the manufacturer’s website.
When you add a printer, OS X can usually detect whether the printer has special accessories installed, such as additional paper trays, extra memory, or a duplex unit. If it can’t, a dialog appears that lets you specify them. Make sure the settings in that dialog accurately reflect your printer’s installed accessories so you can take full advantage of them.
Connect a USB printer to your Mac
Follow the instructions that came with the printer to set it up, connect it to your Mac, then turn it on. Use the instructions to unpack the printer, install ink or toner, and add paper.
Choose Apple menu > Software Update to make sure OS X has the latest information about printer software it can download from Apple. If Software Update doesn’t list an update for your printer, you have the latest software.
Open a document to print, then choose File > Print.
If necessary, click the Printer pop-up menu, then choose your printer.
    Add a Wi-Fi printer
Follow the instructions that came with the printer to connect it to your Wi-Fi network and turn it on. Use the instructions to unpack the printer, install ink or toner, and add paper. For more information, see this article: Apple Support article: Connecting a Wi-Fi printer to your Wi-Fi network
Choose Apple menu > Software Update to make sure OS X has the latest information about printer software it can download from Apple. If Software Update doesn’t list an update for your printer, you have the latest software.
Open a document to print, then choose File > Print.
Open the Printer pop-up menu and choose your printer in the Nearby Printers section of the menu. If you don’t see your printer, choose Add Printer from the Printer pop-up menu. A dialog appears listing printers on your local network. It may take a minute or two for your printer to appear.  If you’re asked for an administrator name and password
Select your printer when it appears in the list, and then click Add. OS X automatically uses AirPrint if your printer supports it, or it selects printer software (also called a printer driver) and downloads it from Apple if necessary.
    Add a network printer
You can connect to printers on your local network that use Bonjour, IP, and Open Directory, as well as shared printers and printers connected to a Time Capsule or AirPort base station.
Be sure to follow any instructions from your network administrator.
If the printer isn’t already connected to your network, follow the instructions that came with your printer to unpack it, install ink or toner, add paper, and connect it to your network.
Choose Apple menu > Software Update to make sure OS X has the latest information about printer software it can download from Apple. If Software Update doesn’t list an update for your printer, you have the latest software.
Open a document to print, and then choose File > Print.
Open the Printer pop-up menu, then choose your printer in the Nearby Printers section of the menu. If you don’t see your printer, choose Add Printer from the Printer pop-up menu. A dialog appears listing any Bonjour, IP, shared, and Open Directory printers on your local network.
    Add a Bluetooth printer
Follow the instructions that came with the printer to unpack it, install ink or toner, add paper, and make sure it’s ready to connect via Bluetooth.
Open a document to print, and then choose File > Print.
Open the Printer pop-up menu, then choose Add Printer.
Select your Bluetooth printer, then click Add. If your printer isn’t in the list, you might need to open Bluetooth preferences, turn on Bluetooth, then set up the printer as a new device.  If you’re asked for an administrator name and password
Connect a printer to a Time Capsule or AirPort base station
You can share a printer connected to an AirPort Extreme Base Station or Time Capsule with other computers on your network, whether they connect to the network wirelessly or with a cable.
Follow the instructions that came with your printer to unpack it, install ink or toner, and add paper.
Temporarily connect the printer to the USB port on your Mac, then print a test page.
Choose Apple menu > Software Update to make sure OS X has the latest information about printer software it can download from Apple. If Software Update doesn’t list an update for your printer, you have the latest software.
Connect the printer to your Time Capsule or AirPort base station.
If your printer has an Ethernet port, connect your printer to one of your base station’s Ethernet ports.
Otherwise, connect your printer to the USB port on the Time Capsule or AirPort base station. If you’re setting up an AirPort Express for the first time, connect the printer to the AirPort Express before setting up the base station.
Open a document to print, then choose File > Print.
Open the Printer pop-up menu, then choose the printer in the Nearby Printers section of the menu.
    Option
    Description
    USB only:
If you have problems scanning, viewing the printer’s utilities, checking ink cartridge status, or viewing error messages, disconnect the printer from the Time Capsule or AirPort base station and connect it temporarily to your Mac, then reconnect it to the Time Capsule or AirPort base station.
    Add an IP printer
If a network printer you want to use isn’t in the list of available printers, you can add it as an IP printer. The printer must support one of these printing protocols: HP Jetdirect (Socket), Line Printer Daemon (LPD), or Internet Printing Protocol (IPP).

  • Can't print via Photoshop ?

I had to change my printer and now I cannot print anything via Photoshop Elements 9 or Lightroom 4 The printer goes into action but always delivers a blank page.

    Vicki,
As you have Photoshop Elements (and Lightroom), and have posted to the Photoshop Forum (Photoshop Elements' "big-brother"), I will Move your post to the Photoshop Elements Forum, which is very active and helpful. Your link and any e-mail notifications will follow along.
Also, I would check your Canon's printer driver. Some programs are less sensitive to the driver version, so they might work OK, where PsE does not.
    Good luck,

  • Any idea why I can't print using Photoshop Elements 13 and an HP Color Laser Jet printer?

Windows 7 with Photoshop Elements 13 - Recently purchased Elements 13 and haven't been able to print!  I have an HP Color Laser Jet CMI1312nfi MFP and printed fine last year with a trial version of Elements 12.  I keep getting errors saying "the saved print information is an incompatible version.  It has been set to default values" as well as "default printer could not be opened."  I downloaded an update to the driver for the printer today but still no luck.   Any other ideas?

I ended up reinstalling the drivers for the Canon from the original CD and that took care of it. Normally I can just copy the PPDs for our particular printers to the PPD folder in the Library/Printers/PPDs folder and it works fine, but for some reason this machine decided it needed everything reinstalled. It's working now.

  • Can't print from Photoshop CS6

I'm on an Intel Mac running OSX 10.8.4 and Photoshop stopped printing to my Brother HL-5050 laser printer. No error messages, no dialogue boxes, it simply prints a blank sheet of paper. I can print from Acrobat, Pages, Word, and Illustrator, but not PS. I tried the usual suspects-trashed the prefs, restarted, replaced the Brother printer drivers, but nothing works.
However, If I switch to a different login ID, I can print normally. That, I assume, means that there's some combination of parts and conditions in my user preferences that are causing the problem, so what are my options? What is the simplest way to get around this problem?

    Hi Birk,
Wait, did you try just clearing your Photoshop preferences? If you haven't I'd do that first since that's easiest:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2012/07/photoshop-basic-troubleshooting-steps-to-fix-mos t-issues.html#Preferences
If that doesn't allow you to print, I'd confirm that a new Admin user account allows you to print:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2012/07/photoshop-basic-troubleshooting-steps-to-fix-mos t-issues.html#Permissions
If that does allow you to print, you can try and repair permissions, but as I note in the link above, it's not always bulletproof way to correct permissions. You may just need to bite the bullet and create a new user account if Repair Permissions doesn't correct it.

  • Can't print from Photoshop elements 13 on local printer?

I can't get elements 13 to print, get a message saying it can't open printer, printer is open and prints from other software.

Can you try renaming the %APPDATA%\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\13.0 folder and try printing again?

  • Can't print in Photoshop CS6

When I choose the Print... menu option or CTRL+P, the cursor changes briefly but nothing happens, no print dialog appears. If there was an error in the background, was it logged somewhere? How do I even start debugging this? I can print from all other programs including Illustrator CS6, and it was working in Photoshop earlier this year but I have no idea what might have changed. I've tried rebooting, updating, checking my print settings.

In the Photoshop Print window, make sure your new printer is chosen. Click on Print Settings (this will open the Print Driver dialog) and choose A3 size there and save... does your Photoshop Print preview then update to the A3 size?

  • User can not print

One user can not print from Photoshop CC. I have test other users from the same computer and they can print.
I use Windows 7 Ultimate and SBS 2011.
Is there a way to clear all Photoshop CC from a user profile? it must be the first try.
Does someone know other user related problem with printing in Photoshop?

    Thanks.
After lots of work, I found the problem. A corrupt local user profile.
After logon on another computer and everything work, I try to identify the cause on the user profile.
After I remove the local profile, I using a network so it creates minor problems, everything works.
The thing which make me not think about this was that all other program, even Adobe, could print.

  • Cannot print from Photoshop cs4

In Photoshop CS4 when I select the HP 7310 printer, PS only provides the preferences for the "HP 7310 fax".  When  I go to print a file, the printed image is reduced to around 22% of its original size. I'm using a Windows 7 HP computer with all current drivers.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Jim

This is probably a litle too late to help, but for those that are having similar problems...  Photoshop seems to get confused with printer names that are similar and always places the "Fax" printer before your standard printer.  When it prints to fax, it prints the images very small.
To resolve this problem, click "Start - Printer and Faxes" and right click on the Fax printer, selecting properties.  At the top of the dialog box, you can rename this printer.  I recommend simply adding the word "Fax" to the beginning of the name.  This changes the name enough such that Photoshop no longer messes up.
Once you have made that change, you can enjoy printing from Photoshop on your HP printer without converting to JPG!
