Can't print .indd booklet to PDF; opens print utility instead of Acrobat
Thanks in advance for any help you can lend.
I have a 16 page .indd document that I'm trying to export via "print booklet", using Adobe PDF 9.0 as my printer. Every time I try to print as a PDF, it goes through the process of compiling the images, loading fonts, etc., but then my printer utility opens (obviously giving an error) instead of Acrobat. When I just choose export as PDF I have no issues whatsoever; Acrobat opens and it saves properly. I need the document, though, in a saddle stitch imposed format for the printer.
I'm on Mac OSX Lion 10.7.2
Acrobat X version 10.1.3
Adobe InDesign CS5.5
The setting summary of the print dialogue is as follows:

I'm a Windows user, so I may not have this exactly right, but printing to PDF from Print Booklet on Mac is a two-step process -- first you printto Postscript file using the Acrobat 9 ppd, then you distill the file. I think you'll find more details at InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Acrobat’s Adobe PDF Printer Replaced in Snow Leopard

PDFs open with reader instead of Acrobat Pro
OS: WinXP
A/Reader version: 9.3.4
A/Acrobat Pro version: 7
Issue:
PDFs open in the Reader and not in Acrobat Pro. I changed the File Association to open them with Acrobat Pro and it works fine for the rest of the day, but when I log in the next day it reverts back to opening in A/Reader again. This is an issue because of the way we have to access the PDFs at work, from within IE on a server.
Someone at work thought there might be a registry hack needed to fix this. I have looked at the registry entries for Reader and Pro, but there's nothing obvious to me.
One other thing that I have not tried as yet is to log in as Administrator and select (tick) the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" option. Maybe it might seem obvious that this is what's needed, but it was working fine prior to last week. The tick is greyed out when logged in as a 'normal' user, but the tick is on too.
I guess someone will suggest I do this anyway and see if it resolves the problem, before looking at the registry. :-)
Many thanks in advance for all suggestions.

Mostly you will get the suggestion to remove one or the other from your system and repair or reinstall the remaining application. It is not a recommended or supported configuration having both.
Another suggestion is to reinstall Acrobat Pro. That works for about 4 out of 10 people. -
I am trying to print a booklet. I have printed it several times with no issues. Now when I try to print it (with no changes in the program) it will either give me a blank page or will print one of my pages (there are 8 pages total). Any help?
No I didn't even read through your post, to long.
You said that "No matter what program I try to install, as soon as the installer opens it crashes". Were you talking about the install for this/these 3D programs or ANY program? As it is worded it sounded like ANY program. That tells me there is a problem with your Mac, software or hardware.
Now you say others install programs, which is it. Programs other then the 3D ones install or no programs install?
Could simply be your Mac is to old to run these programs and the installer knows that. You never said what model or year Mac it is. -
How can I set that my "new tab" opens as Google instead of Yahoo as it is set now?
How can I set that my "new tab" opens as Google instead of Yahoo as it is now?
I usually use Ubuntu, and am not aware of HTML5 being the default for Flash videos on Windows.
Is it more likely you have chosen an option on the YouTube website to use HTML5. I think this page offers support and includes an option to toggle HTML5 or FlashPlayer.

Printing a booklet, my pdf includes the bleed within the page size
I produce a 24 page document, and have just tried to used the print booklet command to create the printer spreads, rather than imposing manually, printing to a PDF.
However the final pdf pages are set to A3, including the bleed marks, and this means that the final printed product ends up being smaller than A3 after cropping.
When doing this manually, I had a PDF preset I was using. I have found a way to get that preset into the Booklet setup, but the final pdf page size is still too small.Under page scaling in the print dialog select none and choose a bigger page size. Don't set final pdf pages to A3 as this leaves no room for trims....

Using ID CS3 -- Can I change a B&W PDF to print in process blue?
Would like to change a B&W PDF to print in process blue - is this possible?
Huh. I was pretty sure it's tiff only, no psd - but then I ran a test and found that I could add a swatch to my test psd within InDesign. And I thought that it was bitmap-only, but I just saved an 8-bit greyscale tiff out of PS and colorized it without issue.
(click click click)
Aha! Back in 2009, Peter said that transparency prevents color-ize-ability of tiffs in ID. That'd be the explanation, I bet. -
E-Mail attachment (PDF) opening up Hyperlinks instead of PDF
When we receive a rich text email with an attachment which is embedded, sometimes we have a problem when opening up the attachment. When clicking the attachment it opens up a hyperlink instead of the attachment which is normally
a PDF attachment. I believe it could be due to the email signature anyone else have any thoughts about this or seen this with a hotfix to resolve the issue?
Running Exchange 2013 and it view through Outlook Web App fine.Hi,
Thank you for your update.
Have you confirmed where the user got the PDF attachment?
I’ve tested this issue in my environment. I copied an image from a web site, pasted it to a new email with rich text format. Then I sent it to another email account. When I tried to open the image from the account by clicking on it, it opened
the web site where I copied the image.
So, for your situation, I suppose it is the same reason to my test. To confirm this, please let the user (who send you the problematic attachment) save the PDF file to local, and double-check it when attached to the new email. Right-click on the attachment
and select Hyperlink to confirm if it contains a hyperlink.
Or, we can just check the issue locally. Open the problematic email, click
Forward, then right-click on the PDF attachment and check if you will get the following pop-up window.
If so, select Edit Hyperlink to check if you can find any hyperlink from the
Address field.
Please let me know the result.
I'm standing by for your reply.
Best Regards,
Steve Fan

PDF opens in all versions of Acrobat except 7
I am working on a project where we create PDF documents with FOP. The generated PDFs open in Version 6, 8 and 9 but NOT 7! We get an error
"There was a problem reading this document(114)" The document is partially rendered and disappears when you scroll down etc. I need to know is there a setting specific to Acrobat 7 that is causing this or is there something in the XSL mark-up that Acrobat 7 does not like. I am really under pressure for a fix on this one so any help or assistance is greatly appreciatedApache Fop http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/ takes an xml file and combines with an xsl stylesheet to create a PDF. (Although we are using a .net verion FONET)

Print Preview missing when PDF opened through Internet Explorer
No preview - no option to print. This is now affecting 4 of my computers so I'm assuming there is an update that is causing this. It is effecting different versions. One computer has Internet Explorer 9 and Adobe Acrobat Standard 9.0. Another computer is running Internet Explorer 10 and Adobe Reader 9. Both are having the same symtoms. Here is an illustration.
Normally it says "Preview - Image", also notice the xxx on the bottom of the preview and to the bottom left of the dialog box. If I save the PDF and open it directly (outside of Internet Explorer) it works find. Also using Firefox it works fine. I believe its an update because its happened on 4 machines so I don't think its from someone changing settings. What do I need to do to Print? Help.
Thanks,papanic wrote:
I very much doubt that this is the way things are meant to work. If I open the pdf in Safari and rightclick>open it with skim, Skim displays the proxy icon, as Preview used to.
Btw, the file's path still points to a tmp folder (webkitpdfs)
So this is either a bug in Safari or Preview (because it impairs functionality), or, hopefully, there's some hidden preference somewhere which you can change and reactivate the proxy icon.
Have you verified this as a Safari bug by checking that it works with FireFox? -
Acrobat 8 can't locate scanner to create PDF from printed document using OCR
Hello,
I have an Epson scanner that is my default scanner on my OSX (10.6). Every program I have locates my scanner perfectly except Acrobat 8.0. Is there something I can do?
From the home dialogue box I click "Create PDF from Scanner". The next dialogue box opens and the Tab "Please Select a Device" doesn't let me scroll to find my scanner. So the scan button is greyed out and I can't do anything. Is there something I can do to make Acrobat clearly find my scanner?
-LuisCheck to see if they have a Native (not universal Binary) Twain Driver. Adobe refuses to allow universal Binary Twain Drivers in their programs.
Either use a Software package from the SANE/TWAIN Project. (look up on Google). Or use a Pakage Like SilverFast.
Before downloading the SANE/Twain Driver you have to look and see if the have a package for your current OS and for your particular Scanner. Stayaway from the SDK's unless your a Programer.
Then when you install all the pieces and set up open Acrobat and go to document Create PDF from Scanner choose SANE/Twain. Should be able to scan with it.
If you use SliverFast it is a standalone package Just scan and save as a PDF then open in Acrobat. or save as a Tiff or jpeg. Acrobat hasn't worked with a scanner since Macs went from OS9 to OSX. -
Can not type on forms on PDF opened with Reader 9.2
When I open a PDF file with a form I need to fill out I get the I beam tool. I click that in the cell I want to type in and I get the blinking curser. When I start typing nothing appears on the form. I even unstalled 9.2 and installed 7 and had the same problem. How can I fix this.
I though It was fillable because the sender of the PDF contacted me to find out why I had not fill out the form and returned it. This is a standard form he sends to many, many people across the country. I told him about my problem with the reader. He indicated that it was my problem. He is going to sent me the form in a different format.

Printing a pdf opens "save as" instead.
I have never had this happen, but whenever I attempt to print a pdf, it opens a "save as" box instead. So I've saved the pdf to my desktop, but after it's opened again I select print and the same "save as" box pops up again. The ONLY way I've been able to print is by right-clicking the pdf file from my desktop. Only then does it actually print.
I'm using Adobe X Reader (version 10.1.7). Why doesn't it allow me to print a pdf when the app is open?Thank you SO much! I simply couldn't figure it out, even when scanning my print options. I also may have inadvertently selected "print to file" at some point? It's such a simple fix that I almost feel silly that I missed it.
Thanks to you and back up and running again! :-) -
PDF opens in preview instead of ibooks
All my imported PDF's open up in preview instead of ibooks ?!
Any hint ?If you want your PDF files to open with iBooks, then you can follow these procedures. (some PDFs will not work with these):
Open Finder and search for the PDF file you want to open with iBooks.
Right-click the file you've selected and point the mouse cursor to Open With...
In the Open With... menu, select which application you want to open with the file, then select iBooks.
(You can also open it with the Other menu if iBooks is not listed in recommended applications to open the file. To open, select the Other menu, under the applications list, then you will see the Enable selection box. Change Recommended Applications to All Applications. Now, select iBooks in the applications list.)
Warning:
Do not check the Always Open With checkbox. This will make all your PDF files open with iBooks, as this makes iBooks the default PDF reader instead of Preview. Some PDFs will not work with iBooks.
Use the procedure above with caution. -
Print issue with Adobe PDF reader print in IE9
We are unable to print Brava PDF documents with Adobe PDF reader activeX enabled in IE9. The same runs fine in Chrome with Adobe PDF reader activeX enabled.
I noticed Chrome uses
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\AIR\nppdf32.dll, whereas IE9 uses-C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroPDF.dll.
Has anyone faced this issue? Can you print other pdf files from within IE9? Can you download the files and print them directly from Reader on you computer? Please list the steps you are using to print the pdf from IE9.
