Can't print or network

Hi
I have a G4 & G5 networked via ethernet, for some reason I can't print from any application on G4 or access the G5 and also can't open Adobe Photoshop or Bridge.
Checked disk, repaired permissions but everything appears to be fine. I can still access G4 from G5. I can successful run a test print from G4, so printer is all connected up ok.
This happened to me before a few months ago. On this occasion I ran Onyx and it fixed problem, but now Onyx won't run as it's keeps giving me the error message "invalid password" although I know password is correct.
Same problem happened on G5 also (Adobe Photoshop wouldn't launch) and I ended up having to wipe drive and re-install everything. I don't want to do that with G4
Any ideas?? Any help will be greatfully received.
Thanks

Sorted!
Reset printer settings, re-installed printer driver, all problems magically fixed.
Thanks to guys at Apple Support

    Hi,
What is the exact printer model?
If it is the HP Deskjet 1510, this is a USB printer and it does not offer any network capabilities.

  • Can't Print Wirelessly- "Network Host is Busy" - NOT!

Fairly new to Macbook, but when I initially set up my printer wirelessly it worked fine. After recent 'updates' to the OS and HP drivers, I'm stuck with the 'network host is busy' problem that I seen in many other threads. There have been NO changes to my hardware - same router, same printer. Print jobs sit in queue and host is always 'busy' but it's not, really. There doesn't seem to be a good and actual "solution" for the issue yet. Here's the details:
    Macbook Pro, 13"
    Mac OS X 10.6.4
HP OfficeJet J6400 (drivers - 3.0.4 - just updated with the latest update from Apple)
Printer is running ONLY wirelessly, it is not hooked to a PC. It has an IP assigned by my router.
I have two PC's that print to it just fine, wirelessly.
I removed the printer from the Macbook, and re-installed it sort of manually using IPP as the protocol. The Macbook 'sees' the printer, and I can access the printer utilities to view ink levels, see the hardware/firmware information, etc.
I can also print a test page wirelessly from the Macbook, because as I'm told, printing a test page bypasses the drivers; and if you can print a test page but can't print normally, it would seem there's a driver issue, no?
One thing I don't know how to figure out is the 'queue name' so I leave it blank for 'default'. This is the only wireless printer and there are no other shared printers.
So I'm pretty well stuck, and have to move files or send links to my PC so I can print stuff (flawlessly) from there since the Macbook won't print at all - I always receive the 'network host is busy' message. The frustrating thing is, when I first installed it months ago, installation went very smoothly, and everything worked perfectly - until recently.
I know it's not just me, but any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I think you should add the printer using the default browser (Bonjour), or, More Printers > HP IP.

  • Can't print over network get message "Error Printing" in message Queue

    Hi,
I have 3 machines, xp, vista and windows 7.  I have 2 printers that are configured to print through the network
    1. OfficeJet Pro L7680
    2. PhotoSmart C7180
For all 3 computers I can go to the web configurations for the printers (so I know the network settings are correct).  Windows finds the printer and properly installs the drivers using the TCP/IP network port.
I can only print to the PhotoSmart from the Vista computer.  I can't print from the XP or Windows 7 machine, I can't printer to the OfficeJet Pro from any computer.
Both printers work on all computers via USB port.
when I try to print a test page the job stays in the print queue and gets a message "Error Printing".
The funny part is that the computer can communicate with the printers and get the ink levels no problem.
I have been banging my head on the wall and cannot figure it out.
    Any Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Ara

I think I figured it out after torchering my self for weeks.
I had my computers and printers hooked up directly or wireless through a linksys WRT610N router.  I decided to add a linksys switch right after the router and plugged the computer and printers in through the switch and now it works.
This is very strange, there must be somekind of incompatibility with the WRT610N router that is causing the problem, it works but refused to print for some reason.  I tried changing settings in the router but haven't got it to work.
Any clues on what it could have been with the router?
    Thanks,
    Ara

  • Can't print from networked PC running XP

Hi. I have a Canon IP6700D attached via USB to my iMac. The iMac is running OS X 10.5.5.
Also attached to my network is a PC running Windows XP SP3. So both machines are fully patched up.
Printing from the iMac works flawlessly.
I want to be able to print from the PC so I have shared the printer, turned off the firewall on the iMac set up the printer on the PC. The PC can see the printer and I can send print jobs to it. The iMac can see the print jobs coming over but nothing ever prints. Looking through the logs on the iMac tells me that the printer has worked but obviously it hasn't.

Your issue could be due to the driver being used on the Windows box. Usually, you have to use a Generic PostScript driver on the Windows computer rather than the supplied vendor driver. This will restrict the options you have for printing but at least you should be able to print.

  • Can see, but can't print to network printer in Panther Server

I'm running Panther Server 10.3.9 in a vLAN with 16 OS 9 clients. They all
print to 2 Xerox Phaser 6200 and 6250 network printers. I am unable to print
to either one from a G4 running Server 10.3.9. I have limited desk space so a USB-attached printer, while
more convenient, is impractical. When I run Classic from the Server, I can print to the Phasers.
*> that means that OS X is seeing the printers. When you print in Classic, what*
*> happens is that the Classic drivers (LaserWriter 8) hands off the print jobs*
*> to the appropriate OS X drivers, which do the actual printing.*
Although I'm using OS X Server, I don't have Print Services turned on. I never could get the OS 9 clients to print the way I wanted and I didn't want to have a single point of failure for 16 clients if the Fileserver (Panther Server) went down. So they print to the Phaser themselves using, as you said, Laserwriter 8.
I can connect to administer them both with a browser.
*> this definitely means that you can see the printers.*
Yes. Everytime. I can reset them and anything else I want to do administering them with a browser (Safari).
I have all the drivers I should need (new re-installs), but print jobs stop every time.
*> Does this mean that the drivers are installed and are visible in Print & Fax?*
Yes. I have both a 6200 and a 6250. Both drivers are visible.
Is there a log file or some way I can see why these jobs fail?]
*> There are logs, some of which are visible in CUPS using the browser.*
    >
*> What error messages are you getting?*
What is CUPS? I've heard of it, but don't know what it is or does. I think when I had ServerAdmin running a lot, there were CUPS files that were taking up hard drive space and I had to periodically delete them in Terminal.
I'm not getting ANY error messages. It's like the print job just evaporates before it gets to the printer. There are never print jobs showing in the list under the Print Queue.
FWIW, I can see the Phaser 6250 (but not the 6200) under Rendezvous printers.
I've tried AppleTalk, IP printing, and Rendezvous. I can always see the printer, but can never print.
    AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!
Do you have any pearls of wisdom?
    Thanks
    mrcrna

I was having the same problem, and basically it comes down to Epson not having driver support for networking. The solution, install better drivers!
Go to: http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php and download the latest version of the drivers. Once you've installed them go to Print & Fax in System Preferences, delete the last print setup (the little minus sign), add the new one but importantly from the driver menu select the Gutenprint driver. That should solve the problem, certainly worked for me!

    Hi aquaman53,
The problem is that the Router has changed the IP Address of the Lexmark Network Printer. You need to use Static IP Addresses so the IP Address does not change.
I don't know if the DI-524 Router allows one to assign Devices / Computers to Static IP Addresses. I know that you can with the DIR-655 Router.

  • Can not print from network share.

When a PDF document is printed from a network share whe're getting this error:
Windows cannot find 'T:\temp\test.pdf'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.
This happens when a user click on the document with a right mouse click and select "print".
But when the users copies it to his desktop and then select print with the right mouse click. The document print as normally. What could be the problem?
we are using adobe reader 7.0.0

Suggest that you check to make sure that you installed Bonjour Print Services for Windows v2.0.2 on the PC.
Run the program and hopefully it will find your printer so you can select it and click to get things going.

  • Can't print to Networked Brother MFC-7420 Printer after installing 10.6

A few days ago my dad decided to finally take the plunge and let me upgrade his operating system from 10.5 to Snow Leopard 10.6.6 on his Imac.
Ever since then I have been unable to print to his Brother MFC-7420 printer.
The printer is connected to his Imac via USB and I connect to his printer through our Linksys Router on my laptop MacBook Pro. The downside about this setup is that his computer has to be physically on for me to be able to see and/or print to the printer.
When he was running 10.5 I was able to print to his printer with no problems but now that he is running 10.6 I can "see" the printer but when I sent a print job to it the Print Queue for the Brother on my screen says "Connecting to Printer" and never gets any further.
Printer Sharing is turned on as usual allowing "Everyone" on the network to print. I've tried removing and reinstalling the driver on my computer to no avail, I haven't tried doing the same to his computer.
A side note to make though, when my dad is running 10.5 on his machine and I try to add the Printer via my Print&Fax the system will automatically set the "Print Using" to the correct Brother MFC-7420 Cups" driver. However, if he is running 10.6 my system just comes up with the "Generic PostScript Printer".
Is there something I should do on his end or my end so that "my" computer can print again to his printer?
Any suggestions are appreciated, if any of you need more info feel free to post and I'll try to help. Thanks!

A couple of suggestions for you.
Ensure you have installed the MFC-7420 OS X 10.6 CUPS driver on both Mac's.
Open Print & Fax and select the Default view and select the shared printer. When your Print Using menu selects Generic Postscript, change this menu to 'Select printer software' and then search for the 7420 driver. According to Brother support the driver name will be listed as "MFC-7420 + CUPS".

  • Can't print. Network Host is Busy or Unable to Connect to Printer 10.6.4

This started yesterday. I had made no changes to my network.
I get this error, and cannot print from my MacBook Pro running 10.6.5 wirelessly.
I print using the IP address of the printer. (10.0.1.2)
The printer is a Brother (drivers updated), connected to an Apple extreme base via ethernet and I have updated the drivers.
My old desktop computer is a G4 running 10.4.11 attached to Extreme base via ethernet. I can print from this printer with out issue.
Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

Pinging the printer from the G4 also gives good pings. Won't quote them here.

  • Can't print via network to Ricoh Aficio MP 171

Hi, I have a MackBook Pro with OS X 10.9.2 and I'm trying to print on a corporate printer/copier Ricoh Aficio MP 171 through the network, without success so far.
Actually any Mac on my work are not able to print on any of the three Ricoh MP 171 we have here.
Btw, I had this issue on OS 10.9.1, but upgrading to 10.9.2 did not fix it.
The printers doesn't have the PostScript option installed, so I installed the packages below to use CUPS:
    - pxlmono 1.9
    - Foomatic-RIP 4.0.6
    - Ghostscript 8.71
    - CUPS 1.7.1 (with 10.9.2 upgrade)
The printer supports almost all forms of connections: Bonjour, IPP, HTTP, Socket, LPD, etc.
Depeding the connection method I try to use, the behaviour is different, but in common with all ways is the following errors on system log:
    05/05/14 10:37:53,468 cups-exec[1038]: sandbox cache error 3850
05/05/14 10:37:53,619 cups-exec[1039]: sandbox cache error 11: database disk image is malformed
    05/05/14 09:27:37,671 cups-exec[2747]: sandbox cache error 1: no such table: main.imports
Those errors doesn't appear every time I try to print, usually they appear not in this order on the fisrt time I send something to print after reboot.
The "no such table" error sometime appears with a different table, like "profiles" and others I didn't catch.
The error below is logged every time I print:
05/05/14 17:14:45,441 aficiomp171_CUPS_SOCKET_PMO[3120]: The function `CGContextErase' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance.
I have to add the printer through CUPS, as this is the only way to select the properly PPD file for the MP 171 (from the Foomatic driver package).
I need to use a PPD file so I can set a custom User Code. If I add the printer through the System Preferences, I can't type a User Code.
The error below appears on cups error_log according the connection method:
HTTP: job remains in the queue, error "Unable to get printer status" in log and Printer Spool dialog.
Socket and LPD: job disappears from the queue, no error is logged but nothing is printed.

    Continuing...
Winddows (smb) and IPP: job is paused and remains on the queue, error "The printer configuration is incorrect or the printer no longer exists" is logged on cups error_log.
What I have already tried, without success:
    - reseting print system, several times, no change.
    - upgrading to OS X 10.9.2 (as said before) didn't help.
    - update CUPS to 1.7.2 by compiling and installing from the source code: that messed up everything else, as it installs libcups.2.dylib 64 bit only, which causes every other 32 bit app, like Chrome and MS Office to crash on start up... reinstalling the 10.9.2 update fixed this issue.
If a try to print using the PPD from Ricoh site, the job is sent without errors, but on the job history on printer web page (Ricoh WIM) is logged as "Acess Restritcted" status.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Can't print to network printer after application is built

All computers are Windows 2000, LabVIEW 5.1.1. While the application is run from Labview, printing to a network printer works fine(using the Easy Text Report.vi). The application was then made into an exe using the application builder. The development system was removed from the computer and network printing still works ok. When the exe is installed on a different computer (along with AccessHW and CVIRTE5.5) network printing does not work from the application. Other programs on this computer can do network printing.
It appears the development system has installed some files that are retained even after the development system is removed. What am I missing.

  • I can't print from network computer while in bootcamp

Although I can see the network printer while in Windows 7 on bootcamp, I can't get it to print.  I am trying to print reports from Quicken 2012.  Any ideas?

Then this could be a driver issue. What brand and model of printer do you have? I want to check what driver options are available for this model.
The other possible cause is the protocol you have used, although Windows is often better at selecting the correct protocol to use compared to Mac. To check what you are using on Windows, open Devices and Printers and select the printer. Then right-click its icon and select Printer Properties. Then select the Ports tab and then click on Configure Port. Is the queue configured to use LPD or RAW?
