Can't print PDF's to Canon MP560 running Snow Leopard on MacBook

Since upgrading my 2008 MacBook to Snow Leopard a few weeks ago, I've been experiencing problems printing to my Canon MP560. Initially, nothing would print at all, even after updating my drivers, so I uninstalled & reinstalled the printer and it seemed fine.
Now I've tried to print for the first time out of Adobe Reader. At first, it was trying to force my jobs through the rear tray instead of the main paper cartidge, but I forced it through the cartridge through the print settings. Now when I hit print, the printer starts to receive the data, but the printer queue pops up with a generic "An error occurred while printing" message. The job then sits in limbo on my MacBook and the printer sits waiting to receive data, until I manually delete the job from the queue. I've confirmed that I can print from other apps (Word, Firefox); it's only Adobe Reader that fails me. I've made sure Reader was fully updated (it already had been), and the only Mac software update is the Java update that was just released this week. Ive pulled the plug on the printer to restart it, and I've once again uninstalled & reinstalled the printer on my MacBook.
Any ideas?

Sorry to say this is one of those "I've been having the same %$#@!ing problem" through two OS upgrades and upgrade to Acrobat Pro X. Posting this becasue my symptoms are the same, including the rear tray commandeering, and that the printer is a Canon (MX860).
Can print PDFs from Preview and browsers. Grr....

Can I run snow leopard on macbook pro purchased new in 2009?

The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available at this time from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list. The App Store which is required to download 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion is part of the 10.6.6 update.
If you wait to long and they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already over $100 on Amazon.

  • Canon MP560 and Snow Leopard

Hello... today I set up a new Canon MP560 multifunctional printer/scanner. I didn't use the set up disk, but downloaded all the latest drivers from the Canon Support site. I've also installed the "Canon Drivers" package from Software Update. The good news is that setting it up as a wireless printer was very straightforward. You can join the network from the control panel on the printer itself, entering the WPA key, and then it appears in Print & Fax - first as "Bonjour Scanner" and secondly, after a while, as a "Canon IJ Network" printer when you click "more printers". However, no matter what I do, I can't get Image Capture or the Canon scanner software to recognise it as an available scanner. However - and this is the bizarre bit - if I use File --> Import --> Canon MP560 in Photoshop Elements 8, I can scan straight into Photoshop TWAIN import. And if I scan FROM the control panel on the MP560, I can send the scan to the Mac as an image or as a PDF. So "network scanning" clearly is POSSIBLE over the WiFi network, just not using Image Capture, and the Print & Fax control panel is not seeing it as connected either (when you click the "Open Scanner" button in the control panel, it pops up a big box with "No scanner available" in the middle...)
Anyone got one of these working properly in Image Capture and able to tell me what to do?
    best regards,
    Matt

    Hello Matt,
I don't have access to my MP980 which is on wireless to check this, but if you use Preview (which uses Image Capture) and select File > Import from Scanner, do you see 'Include Network Devices'. I seem to remember having to use this menu to scan from the MP via network.
Also, with regards to the Print & Fax > Open Scanner operation, I think you need to install the MP Navigator EX 3.0 Opener application to resolve this symptom. You can download this app from here.

  • Can't print from Mail, TextEdit, or Preview in Snow Leopard

Installed Snow Leopard on a new Mac Mini with a newly formatted drive. Successfully set up network HP printers using IP Printing option. Able to print to these printer from all installed applications EXCEPT TextEdit, Preview, and Mail. Print dialog never displays at all after selecting "print" in Mail. Print dialog window does display for TexEdit and Preview but clicking "print" in the dialog window all the options blank out and can't cancel or close the print dialog window without quitting app.
However, when we take this same mini to a different physical location on a different network, printing works normally in all apps. We are guessing that Appletalk has something to do with this. The problem network uses a Cisco 3600 router. We disabled Appletalk in the configuration but that had no effect.

Nothing shows up in CUPS error log to trying to print from Mail. Pasted below is consistent message we get in Console when attempting to print from Mail.
Today, inexplicably, we can print from Preview and TextEdit.

  • How can I find out if my mac mini running snow leopard can be upgraded to mountain lion?

I have a mac mini with sufficient ram for the mountain lion OS however, I am unable to determine if the machine was created in early 2009.  Is there a way to make sure my machine will take the upgrade without purchasing the operating system first?

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • Wireless print server DPR-1260/Canon i9900 and Snow Leopard 10.6.1

    Hello,
I have recently got my Mac Book Pro and have the latest system (10.6.1) and cannot print with a wireless print server. I have a Dlink DPR-1260, and a Canon i9900 printer. I have done everything and I still cannot print. Please I need help!!!!
    Susan

Hello Susan and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately the Canon Mac drivers have never worked correctly with the wireless print servers. I tested a Dlink model some years ago and while the Windows drivers for the same model would work fine, the Mac driver would always fail.
The only solution was to use the Gutenprint driver suite for Mac OS X. This software provided drivers for many brands of printers including Canon, and got our A3 inkjet working - albeit it wasn't always available as it seemed to never wake from sleep mode.
Checking the Gutenprint drivers included with 10.6, which are added when you do a custom install or by running the Optional Installer package within the 10.6 DVD, the i9900 is not listed as a supported model. It appears that only the Canon version of the i9900 driver is included with 10.6.
So, you have some decisions to make...
    1. Don't use wireless and just have the i9900 plugged in directly to the Mac via USB
    2. Replace the Dlink with an Airport Express. Due to the way in which Apple has made their Airport units, they will let you use the Canon driver.
    3. Keep the Dlink and purchase an alternate driver software package called Printfab. If you are printing mostly graphics on the i9900 then this driver suite can provide you with more colour control than the Canon driver. And it will work with the Dlink like the Gutenprint drivers do.
    Hope this helps

  • Can't print from any application in OS X Snow Leopard??

Before the print dialog box comes up, the spinning beachball wheel comes up.
I then have to force quit the application. I have tried resetting the print system but no joy.
I have done a complete wipe and time machine restore and the problem is still there.
I have binned the print prefs and also the relevant print folder and downloaded updates. not worked.
Done disk permissions and disk first aid.
    Any other suggestions??!!

Yep, tried that, however I created a new user and the problem was still there, so I used time machine to go back a couple of weeks and restore the main library folder. Now it prints fine, so there was something in that folder the system didn't like

  • I bought my 20" iMac in Nov of 2007 and when I try to purchase the upgrade for lion I'm told I need 2GB of memory and I only have 1GB.  How can I get more?  I am currently running snow leopard

Trying to upgrade to Lion on my 20" iMac that I bought in Nov. 2007.  Currently I'm running on MAC OS X version 10.6.8.  When I tried to buy the upgrade I got a response that Lion requires 2 GB of memory and I only have 1 GB.  How can I get more memory and will my computer be compatible with Lion when I do get more memory?

Yes you can install more RAM. Up to 6 GBs. Two - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMMs. For the maximum use one 4 GB and one 2 GB. Otherwise install a pair of 2 GB modules for a total of 4 GBs.
You can purchase suitable RAM at DataMem or OWC. OWC also has video tutorials on installation.

  • How i can intall mountain lion on my 10.6.8 snow leopard on macbook pro

i got a problem i want install mountain lion on my mac but i dont know how to do it beacose i have see person on youtube tell you need a external hard drive for install it thats real? please help me

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That's not necessary, but you should use the external disk to make a backup of your data.
First, if you aren't sure how to upgrade or you are happy with the OS X version you are using now, keep it. You may have problems after upgrading that may require steps that you don't know how to do. Also, note that Mountain Lion isn't compatible with PowerPC apps.
If you are decided to upgrade, first check that your computer is compatible > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If so, open the App Store and purchase Mountain Lion.
While it's being downloaded, make a backup of your data onto an external disk with Time Machine, and check that your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
When the download finishes, the OS X Mountain Lion will appear, so follow the steps

  • Can't print .pdf files on windows network printer

    Hi,
I cannot print .pdf files on Canon IRC printer with UFR II 2.23 or 2.24 drivers connected through a windows network by LDP protocol, either with Apple Preview or Acrobat Reader - looks like the software doesn't find the printer (I have the rainbow whell and the software does not answer). It can last for hours, there is no other solution than forcing the soft to quit and finding another way to print. I have updated Canon drivers from 2.23 to 2.24 (all supposed to work with Lion) and that does not fix the problem.
This problem does not happen with Ms Word or Safari (or, more generally, other types of files) and it worked fine with Snow Leo even with pdf!! I also have windows XP with Parallels and guess what? I can print through Parallels with Acrobat Reader (for windows XP) on the same printer on which I cannot print with my Mac with Lion and Preview or Acrobat Reader for Mac!
    Please help !!
    Alexis

    Correction
It works with Acrobat but the printer does not like queues of documents...
The site privided me with the topics I fas looking for about this : it's a Canon drivers and Lion permissions problem.

  • Orarrp can't print pdf file directly to printer

oracle remote print utility (orarrp) can't print pdf file directly to printer.
we expect orarrp utility can handle ".rrpa" file (i.e. pdf file generated on the application server) by directly print the file to the client's printer, i.e. invoke the acrobat reader on the client side, display the the printer selection dialogue, after confirmation print the pdf file, then the acrobat reader close automatically nicely.
However we are disappointed as the acrobat reader startup and display the pdf file content but does not print and does not close.
After testing the problem several times, there are some findings:-
    Finding (A):-
    (a) for the success of direct printing of pdf file, a physical path must be provided; we have tried 2 methods:
    1) using drag & drop to copy the pdf file directly to the browser
    2) open pdf file in the browser directly using browser menu-->File-->Open.
    (b) for the failure of direct printing, a virtual path is involved and we have also tried 2 methods:
    1) when web.show_document() is used
    2) enter the url to the URL bar of the browser,
    eg. http://appsvr.com:7777/report/test_printout/APPSVR1094707.rrpa (this is a virtual path/url)
    Finding (B):-
(a)when the physical path is used, a temporary pdf file is generated in the same directory where the rrpa file exists in the application server,
e.g. in application server: d:/printout/yyy.pdf is generated for d:/printout/xxx.rrpa when direct print occurs
    (b) however when the virtual path is used, there is no such temp "pdf" file generated and direct print failed.
May be when virtual path is used, orarrp utility don't know where to generate the temp "pdf" so direct print doesn't occur.
So, anyone has similar experience or further queries or has solutions, please join.
    Thanks for your attention.

It is really late to give response this post. But still who ever refering to this post for the same issue this solution is useful for achieving same in background:
Even same can be used in smartforms, for getting spool request in PDF format as well which will decrease the size of file when printing in SAP printer.

  • I can't print PDF docs since Reader XI update

Help!!!!!!!  I can't print PDF documents since updating to Reader XI.  Had no problems before this update.  I have read other users posting and tried one "fix" that was suggested suggesting user try to print docs as "image," but that choice was not active to select.  I can't print even older PDFs that are on file in my computer.  Please advise - this is interfering with my business.  Thanks.  I get an error message indicating "no pages selected to print" even though it defaulted to Print All.  I selected by one page, pages 1-5, etc. with no success.  Windows 7 system.

Pat, that did not fix the problem.  I still get the messages that the document cannot be printed and that no pages are selected; the print dialogue box shows that “all” pages are selected.  I get the message even if I manually select “pages 1-7” etc.  I tried deleting Adobe and reinstalling it but I get a 1311 message that seteup.exe cannot be located.  I tried downloading just the Adobe Reader printer drivers from your site and get a message saying that the download was not successful.  Please help.
