Can't print PPTX to PDF

Wow, I went from not being able to add headers and footers to my pdf, to now I can't print to PDF from Powerpoint. Everytime I do, it pretends to print and then in the print window, it stops.
I have uninstalled the application twice. I am losing my mind. Help, please.

You'll need to tell us more information: What version of PowerPoint? How are you "printing to PDF"? (Exactly what are you selecting? PDF in the Print dialog, the Acrobat PDF printer? what?) What Mac OS X version?

  • Illustrator CS3 can't print/save as PDF

I installed CS3 and the error message:
"The Save as PDF and Save PDF as PostScript options in the Printer Dialog are not supported"
Does this mean that its not picking up on the Adobe Acrobat/Distiller 8?
How would I activate this? Help!!
Same thing with InDesign CS3, can't print/save as PDF.
    (this is on a mac)

It may be looking for your RIP ppd, as well as Acrobat 8. Acrobat should have installed all the necessary files, but you might take a look into that. I don't think Distiller is part of the Save-As procedure. You might take a look into "Add-A-Printer" OSX option and select Acrobat 8 there ( although it should have loaded during the install ). Another option is re-install your printer's software and any RIP software ( if available ). Before you do, get whatever updates you can from the manufacturer. It could also mean, after you've done the previous suggestions, you correct permissions on your HD using Apple's Disk Utility. Leave the machine ON overnight so that the Apple Utilities can clean house while you're sleeping.

can you print password protected pdfs from an ipad?

This may help, but I do note that the printer you state is NOT on the airprint list. You may need to go to the app store and see if Canon has an app that will facilitate printing on a non AirPrint device.

  • Can't print or see pdfs in print dialogue with 10.6.8

After installing 10.6.8 and safari 5.1.5, can't print pdfs from sites. Unable to save same pdfs also. Installed lasted software for my printer. Firefox doesn't display the pdfs.Worked fine with 10.6.7.

Have a look for and delete (if found) this file

It could also be in the User Library folder, so check here too:

  • FrameMaker hangs and can't print to Adobe PDF

FrameMaker has been hanging and blowing up on me. Specifically, it hangs when I try to save all the chapters in a book. Some of these books are very small, maybe 20 or 30 pages. After I stop Frame thru Task Manager and reboot, I can reopen the book and my changes appear to be there. I looked through the forum and saw something that said it might be because the PC doesn't have enough memory. It has 3.5 GB RAM. Isn't that enough?
Also, when I print (to my default printer = Adobe PDF), if I unselect "print to file," nothing happens - no Distiller window opens - I don't see any new files generated. I can "save as PDF" just fine. I can "print to Adobe PDF" from other apps, just not from Frame. I can "print to file" and then open the resulting .ps; then Distiller opens and creates the PDF file. This is annoying - it used to automatically launch Distiller and create the PDF in one step instead of two.
I'm putting both this issues in a single topic because they both started at about the same time.
I tried re-installing Frame and Acrobat, but I didn't uninstall first.
I'm using Windows XP Pro and Frame 8.0p277.
So where do I go from here?
    Thanks

Yes, the location for the Adope PDF printer had garbage in it. I fixed that. That has now fixed the problem.
However, Art's reply gave me an idea. I am using FrameMaker 8.0p277 (the version that came with Tech Comm Suite). Also, Acrobat 8 3D came with it.
Since then, however, I have installed Acrobat 9 Pro (which also provided Distiller 9).
Could it be that FrameMaker is trying to call Distiller 8, which no longer exists on my computer)?
    Answering prev questions:
"So if you uncheck Print To File so the distiller generates the PS file and distills it automatically, nothing happens, right? It just sits there?
    and
Have you tried selecting a different Job Option, like Standard, or High Quality?"
Yes, if I uncheck Print to File, nothing happens and no .ps or .pdf is created.
On the properties of my Adobe PDF printer
There are actually four entries. It does not seem to matter which one I choose.
I'm working now on seeing if I can get Acrobat re-installed.

  • Can't print or save PDF files to hard drive after upgrading to Adobe Reader 10.1.3

I upgraded to Adobe Reader 10.1.3 on my Mac with OS X 10.7.3. I can open PDF files on Internet, but can neither print them nor save them to my hard drive.

I had the same problem and stumbled by accident on an odd way how to save the PDF file.
After the PDF file is visible, press the key escape  “esc”. A new toolbar above the PDF file will appear. Press the “disc” icon next to the “printer” icon. A window drops down, and now you can save the PDF file in your download folder.

  • How Come I Can't Print as a pdf?

    Hi,
I'm a relative newbie. I want to create a pdf from a web page but when I choose Print as a pdf from the File menu, it only gives me the option of saving the PDF as a PostScript. I want to save it as a PDF. I don't usually have problems doing this. What is going on? Can anyone help?

    Hi,
I am working in Safari and doing just that. From the File menu, I choose Print, then PDF, then I usually have the option of Save as PDF but for some strange reason, it is no longer option but rather only Save as PDF PostScript. How come?

  • Can not print turbo tax pdf in windows 8

Has Adobe Reader interfaced with microsoft about printing pdf files with adobe reader? I am unable to print TurboTax PDF Files.

Please see FAQ: Printing a PDF file in Windows 8.
If you are using TurboTax on the Windows 8 desktop, you can install Adobe Reader XI (desktop app with classic UI) and print any existing PDF files from the desktop as well. If you have any questions about Adobe Reader XI, please visit the Adobe Reader forum.

  • Downloaded the Acrobat XI Trial.  Didn't choose to purchase.  Now I can't print to a PDF.

I could print to a PDF before the trial.  Now it brings up the "Buy" screen.

    Hey Lisa,
Could you please tell me whether you have just installed the trial? Or has it been 30 days since you installed it?
The trial will only run for 30 days.
In case, your trial version has expired prematurely, please refer this KB doc:
    Adobe trial software expired early

  • Can't print to Adobe PDF 7.0 on Mac OS, is it still supported?

I use Adobe Acrobat Standard 7.0 on a PC running XP SP3 to create large format PDFs from JPEGs and TIF images; it works great for creating PDFs from technical drawings, etc. simply by "printing" to the Adobe printer from most any application.
To the point of this post, I also have Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0 on a Mac running OS 10.5.6. While the Acrobat Pro software does its thing ok to merge PDF files and images to create a new file from within Acrobat, however, for the life of me, I can't get the Mac to actually print from another application to the Adobe PDF 7.0 printer (e.g. even from Photoshop or Illustrator which should be about as compatible applications as there could be for use with Acrobat)
On the Mac, Adobe PDF 7.0 shows up as a choice for a printer and allows all sorts of page output size and quality choices, (just as it does on the Windows version), however, nothing actually happens when I hit "print", the printer status window shows it as being "paused", but nothing can be done to "unpause" it, hitting "resume printer" generates the error message "Operation Could not be completed ... client-error-not-possible". I have updated to the latest revisions available for this 7.0 version of Acrobat Pro, but no luck.
Since I see similar comments / questions for later versions of Acrobat for Mac,  think that this issue must be something about the Mac OS and the Adobe printer settings not "playing nice" with each other.
It really irks me to need go over to the PC to do something the Mac can't finish ... Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated ... Thanks in advance!

According to Adobe's support document on compatibility with Leopard:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/products/pdfs/leopardsupport.pdf
Acrobat 8 "Requires update to v8.1.2 for full compatibility with Leopard."
    As for Acrobat 7:
"While older Adobe applications may install and run on Mac OS X Leopard, they were designed, tested, and released to the public several years before this new operating system became available. You may, therefore, experience a variety of installation, stability, and reliability issues for which there is no resolution."
The fix described above may solve the problem in the short term -- which is likely caused by improvements to security in Leopard that make it harder for processes to write files to disk.
If you're using Photoshop and Illustrator, then you can save the file directly as a PDF. No need to print to PDF. (Though of course, if you're using CS2, there may well be other problems with PS and AI on 10.5.)
You may be interested to learn that even in Acrobat 9 on Snow Leopard, the Adobe PDF print queue is completely deprecated, and you have to use a "Save As Adobe PDF" option under the PDF button in the print menu.
There are of course ways round this. I use a CUPS backend that saves PostScript to a folder that Distiller watches. However, the ability of the print system to write files to the user spaces has been tightened up even more in 10.6.
The final point worth making is that you really should apply the system update to 10.5.8. There is absolutely no reason not to, and lots of reasons why you should. 10.5.7 contains lots of improvements to the reliability and stability of your system, for starters. Including improvements to the printing system.

  • Can't print booklet to PDF?

I am using InDesign CS5 (7.0.3) on Mac OSX 10.6.8.
I've created a short 12-page document, 5.5"x8.5", and I want to print it 2-up so it will fit on letter-size paper that I can fold and staple. Simple, right?
I can't figure out how to print it as a PDF.
I go to "print booklet" and the options are either to print to my printer, or to print to "PostScript File," which I select and I end up with a .ps file.
Then I open Acrobat Distiller and drag the file to the window, where it is turned into a PDF file.
BUT...the resulting PDF file has all the text printed portrait instead of landscape, and most of it is cut off. Not what I wanted.
I've been through every dialogue box I can find, and I don't see any settings to change the orientation of the page for the .ps or .pdf file. The print preview looks perfect.
How do I fix this? Thank you!

Some articles I've read give me instructions on where to put my PPD file, but not on how to obtain a PPD file (I've searched my computer and the web with no luck). Either I'm clueless (definitely a possibility) or the instructions are lacking.
The article to which you linked told you pretty clearly where you could find that PPD, assuming that you have installed Acrobat 9 at some point in the past.
If you do not have Acrobat 9 installed, then why don't you search Google for "ADPDF9.PPD"? It's the second link. And, because you ask us to spell it out: you'll want to right-click on the link and choose Save Link As, and make sure you save it with that name - ADPDF9.PPD.
However, given the length of the document (it's really short), then I have another suggestion for you - do it manually. No, seriously! I'm assuming that your source document is already at the "letter-half" page size. What you can do is:
    1) Fold up some paper so that you have a 12-page booklet. Write page numbers so you know which panel goes where, when you...
    2) Unfold that paper. See, now you can see exactly what is going on under the hood!
    3) Make a new, empty portrait-orientation letter-size InDesign document.
    4) Using your handy key that you made in steps 1 and 2, place your letter-half content-having InDesign file into your empty InDesign file. (Yes, you can place ID file 1 into ID file 2 and it will behave like an image.)
This feels like a lot of work, but it's work that will not simply vanish the next time that somebody at Adobe or Apple decides to change the way that PDFs or printers work. Also, you'll get a better understanding of what goes on during imposition, and you'll have easily editable files. Make changes to the source file, update the links in your target booklet INDD, and you're ready to go!

  • Can't print to Acrobat PDF (v9.4) using Quark 8 + Snow Leopard

I don't know what's happened but I have always been able to print (in Quark 8) to either my physical printer or to Adobe PDF (save as a .ps file to then make a high res PDF in Distiller).  (I have Acrobat Pro 9.4)  Since I upgraded to Snow Leopard I now can't use custom page settings in the Print setup pane and the Acrobat PDF PPD doesn't seem to be working. I have now read that Snow Leopard is not compatible with the Adobe PDF printer, but only in reference to InDesign. Is this true with Quark 8 too? Help!

Since Adobe PDF Printer is not available on Snow Leopard all applications that used Adobe PDF Printer to print pdfs will not be able to print pdfs.

  • How can I print a colour PDF as a Black and White/?

Is there a way I can print a PDF with colours as a black and white one?

Is there a way I can print a PDF with colours as a black and white one?
Do you mean black and white or do you mean grayscale?
If you mean grayscale, then the Apple ColorSync Utility lets you build a filter that you apply in the PDF export interface or pick as a prebuilt filter that has already been inserted into the PDF export interface.
There is a prebuilt filter for the Generic Grayscale Profile or if you build your own filter in the ColorSync Utility with your own ICC package you can determine which level of gray you want and which classes of object you want the filter to apply to.
Basically, the ColorSync Utility functions as a colour server for PDF. If you know the Apple ColorSync Plugins for Adobe Photoshop 3-4-5, then the colour server functionality of the ColorSync Utility is simply the same thing applied to PDF rather than to raster images only.
    Hope this helps,

  • Can't print or create PDF's after resetting MacBook Pro

    Hey there,
Some weeks ago I had a critical HD error and was forced to reset my complete system. I swiped the disk, reinstalled the OS and copied all documents and important settings (library files) back to the newly installed disk. All worked fine, apart from one single but quite important option: printing.
I for example could not export to PDF out of iwork applications (printing error), or use the save PDF-function, nor could I add printers (such as the network printer, HP Color LaserJet 2600n, +conflicting attributes+ whereas others just didn't appear in the +add printer+ list).
I tried resolving the matter and therefore repaired all permissions, installed new drivers, deleted the printing preferences etc etc,... but still didn't resolve this critical problem. I thought about performing a +restore install+ or +archive and install+ but wanted to check for other options first.
    Anybody any solutions?
Or help, guidelines for minimising the re-setup?
    Thanks in Advance,

You are a gem now I can read my PDF's would have never picked that one :o)
