Can't print to an HP OfficeJet G85

I attached an HP OfficeJet G85 through a USB port to my MacBook Pro, but it won't print. I used the 10.5.2 printer driver that came with the system and when I attempt to print, the system says it's printing, but nothing comes out. I tried resetting the printer, but to no avail. I suspect that the driver is not working correctly. HP tells me that they did not develop a driver beyond 10.4 and they doubt that even if I download their latest driver (7.1.3), they doubt that it will work under 10.5.2.
Does anybody know of a printer driver that works with 10.5.2?

In analyzing the situation further, the problem is occurring when I create a text file in a guest VMWare system (32-bit platform of Windows Vista), then print to Adobe pdf instead of to a printer, and then attempt to print that file from the host 64-bit Vista system.
(The file is synched back to the host from the guest system.  I don’t do any printing to the wireless printer from the guest system, so I can’t test that route.)  The pdf file created in the guest will print to an attached laser jet HP printer in the guest system, however.
I have done this routine for several years without a problem – up until now.  (By the way, I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 Std., version 9.5.2 in both the guest and the host systems.

I don't get it, I read one post about why would we have to buy an AirPrint Printer when we have used the "print to a wifi printer" just fine in the past?  Yes I feel that's exactly what's happening to me now too. I want to print from my iPhone and iPad to my WiFi Printer which is also now connected to my Airport Express WiFi network just fine. No problems.

Very glad you added that bit of information because I see different problems similar to this.  I want to share with them what you did and hopefully you not only fixed your specific problem but you can lend some more advice to others with problems like this. Thanks!

  • Can't print to an HP OfficeJet 55G

Just upgraded to 10.5.8, and just can't make the OfficeJet print or scan.
Any ideas? I've tried reinstalling the unit and taken some other steps that made sense to me.

Hello , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you're having issues regarding your print output.  I'd like to help! Although you've performed steps similar to a power reset, I'd recommend running these steps before working with the steps found in the document.  I would recommend removing the ink cartridges from the printer, and perform a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar. I would also suggest following the steps in this document on Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Officejet 6810 and Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One Printer Series. Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • I can't print anything from my officejet 8600.

I've been trying to print to my Officejet Pro 8600 via e-print. I use a Chromebook. Nothing is going through. Google Cloud Print shows the jobs having printed, while the e-print center shows them as failed. Either way, I don't have anything printed.
    Suggestions?

I am having a potentially similar problem with an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 n011a attached to a Samsung Series 3 Chromebox. It was printing flawlessly and then I had a problem with a paper jam, after which print jobs for PDF files initiated from the Chromebox and my Chromebook were failing.  I tried a document that was failing from the WIndows dialog of my PC configured for this unit, and the job printed fine. I then tried a small Google Docs-format file from the Cloud Print dialog on the PC, that worked fine. I then tried the same file from the Cloud Print dialog from my Chromebox and that worked fine. I then tried a page from the PDF document that failed several times and that failed again. I then tried another PDF file in Google Docs via Cloud Print, that also failed. For all failed documents, when you log in the eprintcenter you can see them there with a message FAILED but no diagnotic information. Typical message:
    FAILED https://doc-14-4o-docsviewer.googleusercontent.com/viewer/securedownload/6f91bocmg8ljku6057743u3ra57...
Not having logged into my PC lately, when I did I was noticing that there was an update for Adobe Reader that had to be installed before I could view the PDF file via Google Docs. Once I loaded it, I was able to view the document successfully and use the Windows print dialog and to queue the job to the printer. However, I also noted that you cannot select Cloud Print as an option anymore when you choose the print icon for a PDF document that you're viewing in Google Docs. Perhaps there's a correlation, here - perhaps the Adobe Reader software is not processing the file properly in Chrome OS machines. I will raise this as an issue from that angle also.

  • Can't print on my HP OfficeJet Pro 8500/910

I have had my PC and printer connected wirelessly for years without a problem.  I recently moved, and Comcast installed a new modem with a built in router.  I wasn't getting a good signal throughout the house, so i hooked up my original router, as well so I know have two wireless options.
Now when I try and print, I get an error that the computer can't communicate with the printer.  I ran a wireless test report and it  shows that wireless is on (PASS) and working (PASS).  I ran the HP troubleshooter on my PC and it detected that the printer was turned Off.  This was certainly not the case.  I tried unplugging/replugging the printer, but that didn't work.  I ran the wireless setup wizard just for the heck of it, and i've re-started my PC several times.
    Any suggestions would be welcome.

Make and model or your router (not Comcast).  Status of blue wireless light on printer, on off or blinking?  (  I believe you are connected now).
Go here for your support page and follow the procedures now for wireless issues including setup and troubleshooting.

  • Can't print on brand new OfficeJet 4500

I use a Mac with OS X 10.4.11. Just successfully seem to have set up my new printer, but when I tried testing the printing function by printing an email -- nothing happened! I can't seem to find any setting on this machine that is simply for printing, which is really all I need to do with this now. And HP Chat Support said they don't have anyone who know Mac, which is nuts.
I know this must be something very simple that I am missing -- anyone out there willing to help? Thank you!

Do a search here for the error message. There are several posts about this, most recently http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2274171&tstart=0. You don't mention what kind of Epson 1900 you have, but if the the drivers for 10.6 are already installed, you might get it working by just deleting and re-adding the printer. Check http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669 to see if the driver for your printer has been updated.
    Hope this helps.

  • Printing Issues with HP Officejet J4580

    Howdy
I can not print to my HP Officejet J4580. The printer itself does work as I have run a test on it.
Any data I send appears on the print queue, but that is all. Nothing happens on the printer end. Also, when attempting to scan, using Preview or PDF Pen, no joy either.

    Thanks Klaus
I tried that but no joy. Data actually arrives at the print queue and then disappears, as if the job has been completed. However, nothing happens.

    Hi @GoddessDiamond,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are trying to install drivers for your HP Officejet G85 printer on Windows 7. I am happy to help!
Please take a look through this installation guide, Installing the Printer Driver Using the Windows 7 Built-in Solution for a USB Cable Connection.
Otherwise, if that does not work, you can try to download the Windows XP driver, HP Officejet Basic Software and Driver, and run it using compatibility mode. Make older programs run in this version of Windows.
If neither of those two options work, then the last step is to try an alternative driver, please see this post, How to Assign Alternate Print Drivers in Different Versions of Windows, by @Shane_R.
Hope this information resolves your issue, and have a good day!

  • I have a MacBook air with OS X version 10.8.2 and an HP OfficeJet G85. Is there any way to print between the two?

I am aware that the HP OfficeJet G85 is no longer supported but are there any apps or anything that I can download that would make them compatible?

    Hi,
Indeed the printer is not compatible but you may be able to find some workarounds:
For printing try the HPIJS print drivers, be sure to install any of the 3 required downloads prior following the printer set up instructions:
    http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosxhpijs
For scanning try Vuescan which seems to support your printer:

  • My iPhone and my iPad are connected by wi-fi, but I can't print on HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus. On the other hand, I can print over wi-fi from PC. What can I do?

Hallo, thank you for trying to help. Here is my problem:
In the past, the airprint was possible without problems from iPhone 4 and iPad 2. Since today it doesn't work anymore. My iPhone 4 and my iPad 2 is connected by wi-fi and I can serve in the internet. But I can't print on HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus. On the other hand, I can print over wi-fi from PC.
There are low ink-levels and therefore a message comes to indicate this by printing from PC. iPhone and iPad are accepting the print order without any messages after, but does't excecute the print.
    What can I do?

    Hey helmut,
You can also try the ePrint method listed here if you can't get AirPrint working:

The application HP home and biz app is free in the app catalogue!
    Hope this helps.
