Can't print to Canon LBP7200Cdn after Lion upgrade

Question

Since upgrading to Lion, I can't register (and therefore can't use) my office printer, a Canon LBP7200Cdn.
I tried for weeks to get it to work with the interim driver Canon released with Lion, then gave up and waited for the full driver. Then that didn't work either.
Installation of the driver appears to work fine, but once the printer is registered, printing from any program gives me the error message "/Library/Printers/Canon/CUPSCAPT/Bins/capdftopdl failed".
The problem is the same whether connecting via USB or IP.
I had the same problem when I updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.7, but installing Canon's new driver fixed it. Now nothing works and I haven't been able to print since the summer. No other Mac users are having this problem (but I'm the only one running Lion). Would welcome help from anyone.

I'm having the same issue.  I've re-installed the Canon software after deleting all of the folders & files that they talk about in the user manual.
Same issue.  /Library/Printers/Canon/CUPSCMFP/Bins/capdftopdl failed
I've sent a note to Canon and here's their first reply.

We will gladly provide assistance.  Unfortunately, it is not clear what is causing this.  We will gladly help troubleshoot to isolate the cause:
1.  Is the printer connected directly to the computer or through a print server, USB hub or other external device?
Directly to the computer with USB
2.  Can you make copies without using your computer?  This will verify if the printer is working.
Don't know waiting for my folks to try this.
3.  Are you installing drivers from the CD disk or downloading them from the Canon website here:
Downloaded from the website.  No Mac sofware on the CD supplied with the printer.
