Can't print to correct paper size.

I am using an HP Deskjet 5440. I want to print to 4x6 paper. I go into iPhoto 6.0.6 and set up a picture to print on 4x6 paper (or so I think). I hit preview. It looks perfect. I hit print. It prints about an eighth of the picture (right proportions and all, as if it were going to look right on the paper) then stops and spits it out as if it's finished. Okay, I go into Photoshop Elements and try to print again using that program, this time it prints half the page correctly and spits it out after that. Then I go into Preview. It prints out 3/4 of the page correctly, but there is still white space on the page. What am I doing wrong? I would think that if it looked right in the "preview" mode, it would print out that way. Why is it not printing out to the full page. It's a landscape picture and I select landscape mode, I set it to fill a 4x6 page. In Page Setup I select 4x6 borderless printing. I just want it to look like it does in "preview mode." Can somebody please help me and tell me how to get it to print the entire image on the whole piece of paper? Thanks.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried what you suggested and it didn't work. I am getting more and more frustrated. I don't know what the problem is. It's affecting all my photo programs though. It's not only happening in iPhoto, but my new Photoshop Elements and in Preview. It just prints out half the picture on 4x6 paper, whether I select landscape or portrait. If I print the picture out on 8 1/2 x 11 it comes out okay in the middle of the paper in 4x6.
Here's more details. I scanned in a bunch of negatives on my new Epson Perfection V200 PHOTO scanner. I used the negative caddy to scan them in. I scanned them in using 3200 dpi and original size target. I imported all the pictures to iPhoto and tried to print some of them out. When I set it up using 4x6 borderless printing, it only printed the picture on half the paper. It looked as if it was going to print correctly, but for some reason the printing stopped at half the page. When I used the other landscape setting it printed out the OTHER half of the picture. So, now I can tape the two halves and make one picture, but not a real solution, is it?
So, I opened up Photoshop Elements, which I also just purchased. I tried printing from there and it still only printed a partial picture. The same result came from trying to print it from Preview. Although, sometimes, the printer goes through the motions of printing and then NOTHING is printed on the page.
Also, for some reason, the black and white photos come out looking as if they've been through some sort of filter, like "emboss" or something similar. What could be causing that?
Here is what I am using:
Intel iMac 20 inch
2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo
2 GB of SDRAM
256 Megs VRAM
iPhoto 6.0.6
Photoshop Elements 4.0.1
HP Deskjet 5440
Kodak Premium Photo Paper 4x6
I have tried various settings and I cannot get it to print on a full 4x6 page. Even when I use constrain or page setup or various combinations.
When I printed out large numbers of 4x6 photos on my old iMac G3 last year using the last version of iPhoto and the same HP Deskjet printer, they came out perfectly. They had been taken with a Kodak Digital camera.
Any help would be appreciated, I get more and more frustrated.

  • Can I print to different paper sizes with AirPrint and Safari?

I am the organizer of a trade show coming up.
We are using a web based registration system for attendees.
To print the attendee badges, we simply log in to the site through the net, and print them.  I have an HP CP1525nw loaded with 3x5 index cards that will slide into the badge holders.
When printing from the Mac, I simply go to Page Setup, set the paper size and orientation and print.   It works great.
However, we would love to use iPads for our registration staff.  Not only are they less expensive, but they are portable, and totally wireless.   We can access the site just fine, and the badges show great on the screen.   The website generates the badges as a .pdf file and they load into the browser.
When printing from the iPad, the badges print HUGE, filling an entire 8.5x11 size page.   With the 3x5 card stock loaded in the paper tray, they still print huge, only showing the portion of the badge on the 3x5 card in the location it would be had there been letter size paper in the tray.
    Any ideas?
I've considered formatting another badge for letter size, and having it print only where the 3x5 card would fall... but that is a huge tweak that I think should be unnecessary.
How do I print to different size paper from my iPad?
Thanks for the help in advance.
    --Brian

    Thanks for the info.
It will let me send the PDF to eprint....  and there are paper size choices.
However, they only offer Letter, Legal and A4.
My printer DOES support 3x5 index cards.  But, the option is not listed.
    Any other ideas?

  • Can't print using custom paper size for HP6520

I'm trying to print Hobby Lobby RSVP cards for a wedding. The size is 5.5" X 8.25". My HP6520 keeps giving me an error that the printer has detected a different size of paper and it won't print. I've gone to Custom and set the size to match, but it still won't print. I have the paper in the bottom tray.

    Hi @Saltman1,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you cannot print on a Hobby Lobby RSVP card size is 5.5" X 8.25" with your HP Photosmart 6520 on Windows 8. I am happy to look into this for you!
According to your printer's specifications, this is an unsupported card size for this printer. The supported card sizes are:
    Card type
    Card size
    3 x 5 in Index
    76.2 x 127 mm (3 x 5 in)
    4 x 6 in Index
    101.6 x 152 mm (4 x 6 in)
    5 x 8 in Index
    127 x 203.2 mm (5 x 8 in)
However, as a workaround, you might be able to assign an alternate driver by going to this post, How to Assign Alternate Print Drivers in Different Versions of Windows, by @Shane_R, and then doing a custom size print by going to this guide, Create Custom Paper Sizes in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Mac OS X.
Otherwise, I would suggest getting the proper size of paper for this printer as indicated in the chart above.
Hope this information clears things up for you, and have a great day!

  • Can't print borderless on custom size?

    Using Pixma MX455
I've bought a bunch of blank dvd insert paper, pre-cut (like these) and tried to print one for testing. So i've set the media type in the printer settings as 'glossy photo paper' and set the paper size to 'custom' with the right settings (7.25" x 10.75") but the moment i tick the 'borderless printing' option, the 'custom' option is removed from the paper size options and it reverts back to A4. this happens even when i use 'plain paper' as well.
Is there a way to override this restriction?
What can i do to print borderless on a custom size?

    Hi jeanpaul,
When printing from your iOS devce, the paper size is selected automatically according to the application software being used on the device.  When Apple's photo application software is used, the default paper size is 4x6.  If you want to print on another paper size such as letter size paper, you will need to use a program that has that paper size as a selectable option and print from that program to the printer.

  • Konica Minolta magicolor 7450 Unable to print to Custom paper sizes

    Hi
I have a Konica Minolta magicolor 7450 laser printer that (since switching to mac from windows) is unable to print to Custom paper sizes (entered in the print dialog box from within photoshop CS3) and nothing will print from illustrator CS3 at all.
I have OS 10.5.2 with the 10.1 photoshop update, and the 13.0.2 illustrator update.
When I use to use windows xp & photoshop CS2 I didn't seem to have trouble with this function, but since jumping over to mac & CS3, I can't print on any paperstock other than the defult sizes listed (which it dose perfectly) - I've re downloaded & installed the printers driver, downloaded & installed a firmware update for the printer and tried printing with a network cable & usb cable - all with no luck. I've also tried entering in the custom paper size in the printers LCD panel & setting in as default but it still wants to print on A4 or A3 paper...
Any ideas out there would be appreciated!

so I've been pulling my hair out for 2 days & nights now trying to figure out why I couldnt print on custom paper sizes - I've just now hit the "help" icon in the print dialog box and found this:
    "Creating a custom page size
If you want to print on unusual size paper, such as an odd-size envelope or card, you may be able choose the paper’s size from the Paper Size pop-up menu. To find the Paper Size pop-up menu, choose File > Page Setup, if available. Otherwise, choose File > Print.
If you can’t find the size you need, you can create your own custom paper size.
To create a custom page size:
Open the document you want to print.
Choose File > Page Setup, if it’s available. Choose Page Attributes from the Settings pop-up menu, and then choose Any Printer from the Format For pop-up menu.
Choosing Any Printer ensures that your document can print on any printer that supports the paper size you select.
If Page Setup is not available, choose File > Print.
If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across the bottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.
Choose Manage Custom Sizes from the Paper Size pop-up menu.
    Click the Add button.
Type a name for the paper size.
Enter values in the Paper Size and Printer Margins field."
All I had to change was the "any printer" setting from my (konica minolta) printers name to "Any Printer"!! now my custom paper sizes are printing fine and dandy!! phew!!!!!!!!

  • I am unable to select the correct paper size when printing photo's in iPhoto 11. When I select the paper size in the custom window for 4x6 prints the prints only appear on an 8 1/2x11 page. My Mac is a year old iMac running 10.8.2.

I am unable to print 4x6 photo's using iPhoto 11. When I do they only print out on lettter size paper even though I enter 4x6 in the custom window in the print size menu. My older Snow Leopard system using iPhoto 9 the paper size window offered a 4x6 paper size which worked well.

Selecting paper size in the first sreen tellis iPhoto what papery you are going to use - it does not tell the printer what paper to use - printer specific options on on the last (second or third if you customize the print) screen where you tell the print any specifics like paper source (typically printers need to you tell them where a specific paper is loaded - they do not really know the sizes in each paper tray)

Welcome to the HP Forums dancer200013,
I see by your post that the custom size isn't printing correctly on the Mac or Windows computers.
I can help you with this issue today.
On the Windows computer, click on start, control panel, printers and faxes, right click the printer, left click properties, click preferences, the effects tab should be selected as actual size. Then select the Paper/Quality tab. Click on the custom button. Type in the size, type in a name you want to use, select save and OK. (if the name is too long the save button won't be active)
Close the preferences window and reopen it again.
Then on the paper/quality tab or Printing Shortcuts tab. Under paper size select the new paper size by the name you just created.
    Test the printer.
    Hope this helps.
    Have a nice day.

  • Check Printing on Custom Paper size

    Hi All,
I am using RTF template to print checks using XML publisher. I generated the PDF file and it prints fine on a regular 8.5 * 11 letter size paper.
When I print on real check which is 8.5 * 7 size, it does not print correctly. I am using the HP regular printer.
Do I need to define a custom size and change the RTF template. Can someone send me the steps they have to do to print on real checks, I would greatly appreciate.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for your reply.
I do not have problems with the layout. My issue is how to print on a 8.5 * 7 size check paper. The printer knows only the standard paper sizes. We need to create a new custom size paper setting that the printer can understand. I need some help on this.
I was hoping someone would have gone through this trouble to make it work.
    Thanks.

  • How can I print out a small size address book in Leopard?

How can I print out my address book in Leopard, preferably in pocket size and preferably
without each card having a separate page?

First off, you've posted in the Tiger forum, even though your profile says you're running Snow Leopard. Even worse, you're asking about Leopard. You need to be sure you post your questions in the corrrect forum.
As for the question itself, all you have to do is select the Group you want to print in Address Book, choose Print, select 'Pocket Address Book' from the pop-up Style menu, check the attributes you want included for each contact, and the paper size you want to use and Print.

  • Why can´t I create custom paper sizes in millimeters?

Since I upgraded to Tiger (?) or since I bought (?) my new Epson printer RX700 I can´t customize paper sizes in millimeters. For example the value 12,1x12,2 gets evened out to 12x12. This happens regardless of programs I try to print from. Epson has no solution to the problem. Is it a cumputer problem?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   768 MB, 1,8 GHz

Thanks for your answer. I was trying in Aperçu, Acrobat Reader and Firefox. After your post, I did try in Safari and had the same rouding problem, as I expected since the custom page size management seems to be an OS X function used by all applications.
May be the error is in the way I type the paramters in the page size boxes : I type, e.g., "12,5 cm" which is transformed into "13 cm" when I hit another control ?
I tried other formats whithout success :
    "125 mm" -> "125 cm" !
    "125 pt" -> error message
    "12.5 cm" -> error message
    "4,92 in" -> error message
    "12,5" -> "13 cm"
I also tried to set System Preferences > International > Formats > Measurement units to "American" instead of "Metric". Then I could enter sizes in inches but non-integer values were also rounded to the nearest integer.
How do you enter decimal values into the size boxes ?

    Hi there Wolf!
I have a couple of articles here that I believe will help you out with your question. First, here is an article with some information on custom paper sizes:
OS X Mountain Lion: Manage custom paper sizes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10748
Note that in that article, it states:
Custom paper sizes aren’t available for some printers.
The reason for that is because this is controlled by the driver for the individual printer. You will want to make sure you have the latest version of the printer driver installed on your computer. More information on this can be found in the following article:
Printer and scanner software available for download

  • Can't print on photo paper

Please help before I jump off my roof!!!! Hi, I have just purchased a new HP Envy 5530 specifically to print photos. The guy in the store also sold me a pack of Kodak A4 premium photo paper and said it would work fine. When I try and print pictures in any size 4x6 or 5x7 it either just prints a black smear or just a inch or so on the edge of the paper. The strange thing is that if I do the same thing but with normall (not photo) paper it works fine and prints it in the size I want!!!!!! What am I doing wrong. Do I need special paper or something, this is driving me crazy. Please help.   DC6

See this topic. Although for a different HP printer it may have something in it that will help: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1374604&tstart=0
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • About printer resolution and paper size

I need information about how to use the class PrinterResolution and his relation width paper size.
When i provide a cross a feed resolution to this class bigger values results in low resolutions: why? i dont now the DPI resolution meaning.
Please somme code example about this theme...Thanks a lot...

    Amy,
    1. I just took a picture today, and when I look in Image>resize>image size the dimensions are as follows:
    W=2288px H=1712px W=31.778" H=23.778" @72px/in. resolution
    When I change resolution to 325 px/in., W=7.04" H=5.268"
As the resolution is increased, the dimensions decrease. This is what is called an inverse relation.
Why did I change to 325px/in? Because for printing it is desirable to have a resolution of 240-300 px/in, or so. Also, note that this resolution gives me almost a perfect 5x7 size format, and one can crop off the excess readily. If one desires 4x6 size, one can crop to that dimension.
    2. I enhance the pictures next, leaving sharpening for the last step
    3. I save primarily in PSD and/or JPEG. Both PSD and TIFF allow one to retain layers, are lossless, and thus one avoids degradation with sequential editing. JPEG is is a compression format which conserves disk space (in comparison to PSD and TIFF), and is most likely required for your e-mail and your photo finisher. I save some of the JPEG files. I usually elect baseline optimized, and the JPEG allows me to elect quality 8, which is good for my purpose and results in a manageable file size.
    4. Right after I download my picture files from the camera, I burn them to a CD (i.e. before I do anything else), and right after I finish the final edits I burn them to CD as well. This is my "film", if you will. If the computer fails or if I should accidentally delete a file from disk, I still have it available.
I am sure that others will post, but that is my current work flow.

  • How do I get OS X to ask printer for custom paper size

I am printing postcards.  These are 1/4 of a letter sheet, or 5.5" wide x 4.25" tall.
I have a commercial grade HP Laserjet 4350, and I've configured that size in its custom menu for tray 1 (the envelope feeder tray). The printer is happy.
I've also set a custom paper size in the MacOS, that I've called "Postcard Quarterpage" and I have that selected in the print dialog.  In fact I made it default.
However, under Paper Handling, it says "Destination paper size: Suggested paper: US Letter" and this is greyed out.  If I check "Scale to fit paper size" which I Do Not Want, then I can pick a variety of sizes.  However my custom size is not in the list.
This happens on all applications, so it is definitely OS X Mountain Lion (latest patch).
Anyway, the upshot is MacOS requests US LETTER size from the printer, so the printer goes "Take this postcard stock out and gimme US LETTER".    The printer can detect paper sizes.  If I try to give it postcards anyway, it blows an error and won't print, which is what it should do.
How do I get OS X to tell the printer "Gimme 5.5x4.25" like I've instructed it?

  • Problems printing to large paper size

    Hi,
    Using Acrobat 9
In my work, I use different programs for floorplans and renderings. I send to my Customers the documents as PDF file , and usually the scaled floorplans are in  large paper size (22x34 or up)
With one of the CAD programs, all works fine with paper size up to size C,  but if I choose, for example, Ansi D, I see a screen "Creating Adobe PDF" but nothing happens, the bar doesn't move and the file is not printed / saved
I'd appreciate any idea to solve this issue
    TIA

There are a couple of things you can try; 1.) see if you have enough system memory to process the page ( it could be running out of system memory ); 2.) set an invisible holding line to the page / document and lock it ( no stroke, no fill @ 13 x 19 ); 3.)  Use the Page tool ( if you haven't already ) and set it to the document, edge-to-edge.  Also, check you ink supplies, there may be an empty cartridge preventing you from printing the entire file.  Hope this helps.
