Can't print to nas server. Macbook pro will only print testpages.

I can't use the printer connected to the NAS server. I can print testpages, but it won't print anything else. I can print without problems on my pc to the nas server.
I use mac OS x 10.6.8
Can anyone please help me?

Regrettably no replies. I have struggled with this for days with no success and I have given up on the Airport Extreme. I have found several other Forum posts with very similar problems and no one seems to have a solution to this. It seems other wireless routers work better than the Apple product. I was able to get my old Linksys wireless router reset and it is set up and working well. The Linksys router does populate the DNS servers and domains where as the AE does not. Apple engineers should look into this. If I am mistaken and there is a fix for this someone please let me know, otherwise my AE will probably appear on Ebay very soon.

    Yes.
    Password doesn't work?
If so, try resetting it. If the computer is having any other problem, take it  to the Apple store to have it checked out.
Reset Password starting from Recovery HD
Start the computer, then press and hold down command and R keys to start into recovery partition.
When you see the Apple logo, release the keys.
Wait until  OS X Utilities window shows up.
Move the mouse to the menubar at the top and click "Utilities", then select "Terminal"
    from the drop down.
    Terminal window will appear.
Type in   resetpassword   and press enter on the keyboard.
    Leave the Terminal window open.
Reset Password Utility window will open with Macintosh HD selected.
Select the user account from the popup menu box.
    Enter a new password.
Reenter the new password for the user.
    Enter a hint.
    Click the "Save" button.
Click  in the menubar and select Restart.
If Keychain dialog box appears, select “Create New Keychain”.
    Best.

That's kinda a vague statement. You'll have to respond with a) the make and model of your MB Pro and b) exactly what you are doing, what is happening, and any error messages before anyone can even try to provide help.

  • My MacBook pro will only load in safe mode with blue screen then freeze, but I can boot windows up fine and access all info on the mac side. Can anyone help?

    Hi all,
My MacBook pro was running fine then it went very slow, I got the spinning world but it would not do anything. I tried to restart but it had frozen, so I turned off the computer by the power buttton. Now it won't boot up, it justmfreezes with a blue screen in safe mode. I have tried booting isank blue user mod and running  /sbin/fsck -fy and a couple of other suggestions from various discussion boards but nothing works. I just tried booting up in windows and it works fine, with access to the mackintosh HD.
Any ideas on how to fix the mac side??
    Thanks in advance!

  • My macbook pro will only boot in safe mode

    Hey,
I have a macbook pro 15-inch, Early 2011 running osx 10.9.4. I have a SSD hard drive that i installed myself a year ago and hasn't shown any defects. Its a 120 gb OCZ-AGILITY3.
    My problem:
My macbook will only boot in safe mode nowadays. I have done a complete erasion of my hard drive and installed osx mavericks twice already. After the installation the computer will safely go to the desktop. But if i then do a reboot it won't get further than after the first apple logo, sometime the turning wheel will pop up, before turning off and trying again. i have tried resetting PRAM, I have tried resetting SMC, i have tried avoiding SMC (with big fan rate), but all with no success.
I have done a complete hardware test (the longer one) and it showed "no troubles found".
My guess is that the problem is with the battery. My computer won't run anymore without the adapter, when i pull the adapter out it either stays on for a while before just turning off. Without having it plugged in it won't start. Is it possible that during normal start up there is some kind of communication with the battery that can cause this?
I ran a diagnostic shown in this thread (Will only boot in safe mode) and included it in this post.
Hope someone can help me out.
    Thanks,
    Bram

  • Macbook pro will only start to windows I do not have bootcamp files.

I am new to mac but good with windows. I just bought my first mac a macbook pro 17. I do need to run windows on it too. I ran all the updates for the OS then started bootcamp. It did tell me to put in a DVD and i foolishly didnot it said it was copying the files to fbnr. I went to the next step and installed windows 7 64bit. I starts up in windows fine but i now need the drivers that would have been on the DVD. I have read that i should boot up as a mac and start bootcamp and make the DVD. I can not get the OS to start it just keeps going to the windows. How do I start up the OS? Is there a way to download the drives I need with out booting to OS?
    Thank you

I looked at the directions for bootcamp and on page 10 it tells you to use to use the control key when starting to choose the drive you want.

  • My macbook pro will only start-up in grey screen

hi, i have a potentially big problem
I have just purchased macbook pro 15 inch 2.0 GHZ and tried to transfer data using the migration assistant.
i started have numerous problems like i did not have permissions to open folders - i found out how to solve that from this forum and it worked
i had more problems though with Teamviewer - it would not open - came up with an error message 600, so i downloaded the newest version which also wouldn't open.
and basically it just got from bad to worse.....
so i thought that i would then try to do a restore from 'My Passport for Mac' external hard drive.
then i got numerous messages popping up saying 'system extensions cannot be used' etc
i tried numerous times to restart new laptop, shutdown or even hard re-boot and it would not
so i went into SYSTEM / LIBRARY / EXTENSION and started deleting the files that it said were not installed properly
the list went on and on and on so i deleted the whole contents of extension folder - it was only then that the laptop would restart
BUT - now that it has restarted i get the restart 'sound' a grey screen with the apple icon in the middle - no cursor and some small writing in the top left hand corner (looks like CMD mode) and amongst the jargon it does say 'unable to find driver for this platform'
what on earth have i done ?
    please help
    thanks
    Serena

i found the answer to my question on this forum - see below,  hallelujah.....
This solved my question by Franco16 on Jun 13, 2012 3:13 AM
I found the solution, thanks to MrE_the_Great (read following cut and paste)
I'm glad it worked out.  I'll put the steps below again for others who join this discussion late and to clarify as I was typing on a phone last night while my MBP was re-installing.
    1) Hold in command-r while rebooting (or from cold start) to boot to the recovery partition.
    2) Chose re-install mac osx
    3) Enter appleID credentials
    4) After the re-install is complete (may take a while depending on your intenet connection etc) all your files, preferences, and software will be there, you shouldn't lose anything.
    5) DO NOT reattempt the Thunderbolt update.  You can update the iPhoto and other updates that Software Update finds...just DO NOT check the Thunderbolt one or you will be at step one again.

  • My macbook pro will only occasionally create a WiFi hotspot

I have created a WiFi hotspot on my Macbook Pro. Sometimes it will work perfectly but other times it refuses to create one even if I turn internet sharing on. Any ideas why this is the case?

Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery if it's a portable Mac.
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).

  • Macbook Pro will only read on external drive.....

I got a Maxtor portable external drive, 320gig model, and was able to backup my files from WinXp desktop pc that includes mp3's and mp4 videos. I'm converting to apple and just got a Macbook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running on Mac OS X v.10.5.4. My question is that I wanted to add some files from my macbook to my external drive but some reason can't. Either the external drive won't let me or my macbook won't.
I check the info on the external and the drive is formatted to 'windows NT files system.' Does that have anything to do with why I can't make any changes on my external? Does any one have a solution for me? Any suggestions would deeply be appreciated.

    bigjohnny002,
OS X can read NTFS volumes, but it cannot write to them. There is third-party software (MacFuse) that will allow OS X to write to NTFS volume, however.
In the absence of this third-party software, you will need to re-format that external. FAT-32 volumes can be created by OS X, and both OS X and Windows can read and write to them, but there is a 4 GB size limit for files stored in this file system.
If you are not planning on transferring files back to a Windows computer, the best format will be HFS+ (Mac OS Extended). Provided there is enough space on your Macbook Pro, you can copy all the files from the external to the Macbook Pro, use Disk Utility to re-format the drive, then copy the files back.

  • Macbook Pro will only display basic colours

I set up my macbook pro to run dual monitors with my 20 inch LG display. It worked fine for a bit but then decided to run to only basically colours, probably 256 colours. I then shut it off and tried it again the next day thinking it was a heat issue, and the problem was still there.
I tried to change it in the options menu and it already says it is set to millions of colours. The weird part is that when I boot windows the colour is fine and I have no trouble playing games.
Does anyone know any solutions to this problem, or have they heard of it before?

Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences, click on Seeing, and move the Contrast slider all the way to the left unless it's there already.

  • Macbook pro will only read audio cds

My MacBook Pro2,1 17" will no longer read anything other than Audio CDs in its drive. Any other format and it says the CD is empty. It never used to do this. I wonder if upgrading to Mac OS 10.7 (Lion - which is as far as this hardware will go) will fix this problem, or has the firmware gone awry? (What a great pity they don't make 17" laptops anymore.)

This is not related to my CD problems, for which you have been very helpful, but you may be interested as you seem to be au fait with the older MacBook Pros.
Some time ago, I purchased a new power supply for my Mac which came with a MAGSAFE 1 L-Tip magnetic adapter. The original had been a MAGSAFE 1 T-Tip but it had worn out and the coaxial screen was looking very exposed. All went well until, inevitably, the laptop was dropped. The L-Tip stayed in place and because of its sausage shape, dented the side of the casing. It [the L-Tip] would no longer make contact (because of its long body) so I reverted, very gingerly [an English expression?] to the original T-Tip which still worked. I then ordered what I thought was a new T-Tip supply but when it arrived, turns out there is now a MAGSAFE 2 T-Tip (which of course would not work). Maybe they have abandoned the L-Tip because it is self destructive. I have now finally returned the MAGSAFE 2 and await a MAGSAFE 1 T-Tip. A cautionary tale for those looking for a new power supply.
