Can't Print to PDF from any application in Windows 8 with Acrobat V8
Can anyone help me? Adobe doesn't prvoide support for Acrobat 8 anymore. I used to be able to print to Adobe PDF from other applications before I upgraded to Windows 8. Now it never works, just gives me an error message that says "printer is in error state." I am using Acrobat V8.0.0. Thank you for any help you can give.
Acrobat 8 is not compatible with Windows 8, so such errors are to be
expected.

Can not print to PDF (From any application)
I print to PDF's on a regular basis, and my mac has stopped me randomly from having that function.
When I go to Print from any application, and select "Adobe PDF 7.0" from the Printer drop down an grey stop/error sign appears next to that drop down.
Then the print queue appears with a red error and the item that i was printing gives a status of "-" and the comment of "Jobs Stopped"
If I press the "Start Jobs" button I get a progress bar and the status changes to "Printing" ... the progress bar doesn't move and then the status returns to "-" and the item remains un-printed in the queue.
Please help.
Thanks.
MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo Mac OS X (10.4.8)I managed to fix the problem by deleting the folder "com.adobe.print.AdobePDF7" from /Library/Preferences/
And printed to a PDF -
Can't 'print to pdf' from ANY app, it just...
stops after processing some bytes.
As the title says, happens from any app, text, preview, word, safari, firefox...
and upon further inspection, distiller crashes when trying to distil a .PS file (generated from indesigncs2) into a pdf.
i have tried:
repair prefs
deleted distiller and acrobat related prefs
reinstalled acrobat (version 7 btw)
tried to use distiller and 'print to pdf' option prior to each option - still no go.
however, i created a new account, and in the new account, it worked fine hmmm, so its my account..
what can i do to fix my pdf problems??
thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Nice troubleshooting, particularly using another user account to determine it's something in your account that's causing the problem. Without dragging your entire user Library/ Preferences file to the Desktop and then returning .plists a few at a time to watch for the problem to return, you could check your user preferences (.plist) files in Terminal by entering the command:
find ~/Library -name '*.plist' -exec /usr/bin/plutil -lint {} \;
You can also download Preferential Treatment
I've seen scattered reports of problems using OS X's built-in print-to-PDF when some versions of Adobe software are installed. Are Distiller etc. installed for general use or under the relatively rare single-user access? In the hunting in the dark category, with no programs open, you could look at Activity Monitor in both user accounts and see if you spot any background user (non-system) processes running in your normal user account that aren't in the test user, then force-quit those user processes to see if printing to PDF works without conflicts. I'm not sure what log a failed print to PDF would go into, but you can open Console look through console.log, system.log, and CrashReporter et al. for events timestamped around the time of a failed print-to-PDF attempt. The backtrace of any failure report may provide additional clues. -
Unable to print to pdf from any of my applications
Hello,
I am running Acrobat 8.0 on windows 7. Toshiba Qosmio 64 bit. I am unable to print to pdf from any of my applications. Office, Mozilla, Lotus 1-2-3 and others. When I choose the print option. And from the drop down menu choose Adobe PDF as the printer. And when I click to continue I get the little metered bar showing it's working, but then I get an error in the printer que. I don't even get an option what to save it as or where to save it to. It just goes straight to the metered bar showing its working. And it does this for all my programs where I can print to pdf. Can anyone help me? Also, this is a student version. Could the student version be unable to do this?
Thank you,
JimmyJoneyAlthough Acrobat 8 is not supported on Win 7, you can try a few things. First, apply all updates to Acrobat 8. If this doesn't help, check to make sure that the PDF port was created. If not, you can try:
Open Control Panel, select Printers
* Click Add a Printer
* Click Add a local printer
* Select Use an existing port (should be preselected), change the port to "Desktop \*.pdf (Adobe PDF Port), click Next
* On the next page, click Have Disk...
* Click Browse and browse to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF (or wherever you have Acrobat installed), click OK.
* It should now show a series of "Adobe PDF Converter" entries. Select the first one and click Next
* Change the printer name if desired, uncheck the box to use it as a default printer, click Next
* Do not print a test page, click Finish
* Find your new printer in Printers. Right click on it and select Properties, Advanced
* Click "Print directly to the printer", click OK
These last steps are detailed in the following discussion. -
Can not print a pdf from preview. It crashes every time from 2 different printers.
I can not print a pdf from preview. I have tried at two separate locations with two different printers.
I am having the same kind of problem when trying to print any kind of pdf: big, small, text only, with pictures. I dont know how it happend. Now it is happening in both my imac and macbook pro both runing the latest Lion MacOS with all updates installed. It is weird one moment my machine was printing ok then it stopped working. I have updated the printer software I have a canon image class mf4350. Also the curious thing is that I can print the same pdf document from adobe acrobat pro on the same computers with out any kind of problems.

Can't "print to PDF" from Word with Acrobat XI
I recently upgraded from Acrobat X to Acrobat XI and now I don't seem to be able to "Print to PDF" from within a Word document. It tries to generate the PDF then produces an error log which says:
"Adobe PDF Settings file read error in :C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings\Standard.joboptions"
Is there a fix for this?Just to be sure about the functionality of everything else. Try changing the job options in the printer (and/or) PDF Maker to the print or press options and see if the printing and PDF Maker operate correctly. If that is the case, you indeed know the problem is bad files. I am not sure if the ones that fail can be extracted seperatedly from the Acrobat distribution or not. I might check my Win7 installation of AAXI and see if I have any issues with the job options. I generally do not use the Std options, but one provided by IEEE for publications. I have found that works about as well as any and the results generally look nice. It generally embeds all fonts that is another option I want. The font issue is not optimum from my viewpoint with the Standard settings that does not embed all fonts.
You might try to see if you can open them in Distiller. If so you might want to save copies from within Distiller (just save with a new name). Then check your last step and see if they open when resaved or when used as the settings for the print.
I am just trying to dream up things you can try. The Distiller route might be a good test. If the copies work fine, but the originals do not, you could just rename the originals with ...orig or such and then change the name of the copies back to the original name. If you wanted to go one step further (I recommend it), change all of these new versions to be read only as the original should be.
I forgot to mention that to edit them in Distiller, go to the settings tab and select the job settings, then enter edit. The original files can not be saved without changing the name since they are read only. If you need more help on this, ask and I will go to my machine with AAXI. -
I am unable to print a PDF file from a HP Photosmart Plus B210a. I contacted HP and they say because the printer does print word docs etc. the printer cannot be the cause of the problem. This is from the Top Level Support team. When contacting Adobe, they say that not being able to print their PDF files is not there problem but HP's.
Another call to HP and they now say it is Apple's problem.
I am in the middle and still can't print a PDF file. When trying to do so, it doesn't print and I receive no error messages. Just nothing. My serial number is
W88110PFZE3 and my operating system is OSX 10.6.8.
Does anyone have a suggestion, or do I just throw out HP?
Thanks, Bob L.Try opening the PDF in Preview and see if it will print out of it.

Trying to plot to PDF from AutoCAD. Never usually have issues doing so, a few months ago it stopped working suddenly with a warning message that said Adobe PDF was not activated. I didn't know what to do so uninstalled and reinstalled it which fixed the problem. Only now it started happening again.... There must be an easier fix?
Thanks for your help!Thank you for writing to me!
It occurs when I try to print to Adobe PDF from either AutoCAD or Revit (both autodesk products). My Adobe PDF function seems to be working for other applications - for ex. if I save from Illustrator to PDF, Word to PDF, etc. From this description it sounds as if it's more of a problem with my Autodesk products, but the odd thing is that until recently I was able to print to PDF from both of them! This happened to me once before and I uninstalled and reinstalled ADOBE but I thought there must be a better way of dealing with it. Is the number of times you install the ADOBE CS6 limited? I worry that uninstalling/reinstalling it uses up some of my uses - even though it's on the same laptop.
The error message I get is this:
Thanks for your help,

Can't print to PDF from Acrobat XI
I'm having trouble printing to a PDF from Acrobat XI Pro (FYI, I'm using OS X 10.8).
Here's what's goin on:
I open the file in Acrobat.
I hit Cmd-P and in the "Printer" dropdown list I select "Adobe PDF 7.0".
I click "Print" in the lower right.
The print monitor icon pops up, but nothing happens. (When I click it to view progress, it just sits there and says "Ready to print", but no matter what I do, nothing happens.)
To clarify, as far as I can tell, this is only a problem when I try to print using the "Printer" dropdown menu and is universal across all applications (i.e. Acrobat, Word, Chrome, etc.). When I select "Save as PDF" within any of those applications, there is no problem at all.
You may be asking yourself "Then why don't you just continue to 'Save as PDF' and forget about the 'Printer' option?" The "why" is not important, so I'll save you my reasoning as it has no bearing on fixing this problem. I'll just say that I have a somewhat frequent need to do it in this particular manner and need to have that option available to me. No offense intended, I simply want to solve to problem without running off on an unimportant tangent.
I'm sure you'll have other questions about my system and what I'm doing/have done, so please ask away.
Thanks so muchI've had the same issue on 10.7 (and, I believe 10.6). Although this point may also be contributing to the problem, I don't suspect that it is the only demon at at work here. However, if you are referring to all versions of OS X that would make some sense since the only print drivers I could find on Adobe's downloads section didn't show support for anything newer than OS 9.2.2
As to your suggestion, I'm not sure I follow what you mean. Here is a screen cap of the dialogue box I'm presented in Acrobat XI. Can you please point out the "PDF Button" you're talking about?
After reading your comment again, am I correct in assuming that you are suggesting I essentially save the document as a PDF, as is usually present in the print dialogue box for other applications? If that is what you are suggesting, I already explained that that is not an option and doesn't solve the problem.
Thanks -
Can't print to pdf from Word - Stumped Applecare & Microsoft level 2
This is a challenge question that has stumped the Applecare level 2 and the Microsoft Office level 2 support people. I'm hoping someone out there can help me.
This is different from the other postings about printing to a pdf. I am able to print to a pdf or to the printer from TextEditor, and I can print from Acrobat, Safari, Mail, etc. The problem is only associated with Mcrosoft Office 2004.
Here's the scenario:
I had a Mac G4 and got a new MacBook Pro (10.4.9). I ported everything from my old computer to my new computer. My old computer had Microsoft Office v: X. Once I had the new computer up and running, I went to open one of my existing Word documents. When I double-clicked on the Word document on my new computer, I assumed it would open in Office v: X as usual, but the new computer had the Office 2004 Test Drive loaded, and the file opened in the TestDrive. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to print from the file>print dialog box since then. I ended up buying Office 2004, thinking it was time to upgrade, but the fully loaded version has the same problem.
I suspect that the TestDrive irreversibly toggled some switch in some embedded print function file and that the new software installation is not addressing that file.
I called Microsoft and spent 2 hours on the phone with them, and they could not solve the problem. They did acknowledge that the TestDrive takes over as the default and that the TestDrive version cannot print. With the Microsoft people on the phone, I uninstalled all versions of office and removed the preference files, in addition to attempting other things, but that didn't do it. (If I set up another account with administrator rights, the problem exists in the new account as well.)
Keep in mind that I can print when using the icon in the toolbar at the top of the screen, but I cannot get the file>print dialog box to print to the printer or to a pdf. The whole box seems to be disabled. In the end, Microsoft couldn't help and suggested that there was a conflict with the Preview program which enables the print to pdf function. (I made Preview the default program for opening pdf's, instead of Acrobat, but that didn't help either.)
Next, I was on the phone with Applecare (almost an hour with level 2) and they suggested some of the same things. They also suggested removing Office with Appzapper and reinstalling. Appzapper did remove more files than the Microsoft people told me to, but still no dice.
Applecare said an archive install could potentially correct what the TestDrive did, but it would also put all my files in jeopardy if the process ran amok.
I have not yet tried removing Office 2004 and going back to Office v:X, but if nothing else works I can try that next. I'd really like to make it work with Office 2004 though.
In case you're wondering, my printer is connected to the computer directly by the printer cable. The printer is a HP Laserjet 1200, and I updated the drivers as part of the process of trying to solve the problem. I know the printer is old, but it worked well with my G4 and Office v:X. I have also loaded all the latest Microsoft Office and Apple updates for the Office software and the computer.
Let me know if you have any suggestions, and thanks for your help!
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.9)<but I cannot get the file>print dialog box to print to the printer or to a pdf. The whole box seems to be disabled. >
Do you get the dialog to come up and then the buttons don't work? Is that what "disabled" means? If so, removing the Xerox plugins could help:

If this is not the case, could you provide more description on what disabled means?

Can't print to PDF from MS Office 2010 using Acrobat X Pro
This is not the PDF Addin problem. When I try to print to PDF using the printer dialogue in any MS Office 2010 application I get the save to dialogue box, but when I choose a location and file name and print save nothing happens. No indication of printing activity, no file shows up in the location I chose, etc. I'm using Acrobat X and working in Office 2010 64bit on a Windows 7 64 bit system.
Use OFFICE 32-bit. I am surprised the print option does not work, but there has been a lot said on the forum about the compatibility of OFFICE 32-bit and Acrobat X.

Can't print to PDF from Office 2004
I have a new MacBook 2 GHz with 2 G RAM and 40 G available on my hard drive. I flawlessly transfered the data from my G3 ibook and everything was going great. I went to print on Word 2004 and the "print to PDF" and "cancel" buttons were missing. Opening TextEdit to check what it going going on, I went to print and the "print to PDF" and "cancel" buttons were there. I called Microsoft and they said that the print windows are from the OS not from Office. Has anyone else heard of this issue?
What can I do to fix this problem?
Thank you in advance for your help.
MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.8)
MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.8)
MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.8)After all day with Apple and Microsoft the culprit is....
An HP printer driver that was on my iBook G3 then transfered over to my new MacBook. Some how it did not agree with the new OS.
The problem was found by noticing that in "safe boot" mode Office was able to save as PDF. Therefore it was a problem with a third party file that wasn't Office.
It was solved by going into Libraries/Preferences/StartUpItems and dumping what was there (two HP files) then removing the HP driver. That was it!

I can print to PDF using PDF995, but not the regular Adobe PDF that comes up in the list of printers.
I've tried repairing the Adobe installation, but that didn't help.It might help to understand the process, though I am almost surprised that AA 9 worked for printing on Win 8 (thanks for that info). Normally the print process is to print to the Adobe PDF printer (without the print-to-file checked). The process does create a PRN file that is actually a PS file. AcroTray (running in the background) completes the process of taking the PS file and running Distiller in the background to create the PDF. If you have problems, you should be able to print to file (assuming the print driver works -- but you indicate it does) and then opening the PRN file in Distiller to create the PDF.
