Can't print to printer in list

I'm running Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro, and I have added my printer to the print&fax list from system settings, but when I try to print to it from an application, the printer does not show up in the list. Other printers at my school work fine. Any idea how I can get my home printer to show up?

Once you add a printer to the Print & Scan pane then it should be available for all applications.
Is the printer connected directly to the Mac via USB cable or is it networked? If the latter, when you select to print from an application, from the print dialog if you open the Print drop menu it will show the locally installed printers but also other printers seen on your network. So if the printer is not showing as being locally installed, then does it show as being on your network?

    You can make the menu bar appear by presssing the Alt key. You can print from the File menu.

    You may have to visit the printer manufacturer's web site and look into their support pages to get a print driver for your Mac, and install it. Or see if you can see if a driver may already be in your Mac by checking settings, since there are many drivers already installed in Mac OS X.
    Good luck & happy computing!

    I will need some more information in order to assist. What model of printer do you have? Different printers have different features such as the ability to display the printer's ePrint address on the front panel of the printer. The website that the printer can be viewed at is eprintcenter.com. Click on this link here to see the sign in page. Have you signed up and register the printer at this site? Is the email address for the printer one that you have customized? Or is one consisting of what appears to be random letters and numbers?

    Hello, Edward and thank you for your note.
    I read through the thread you mentioned and it seems that people are having a lot of problems with the iCloud clients, so we're not alone, but the unique issue in my case is the failing email address vs. the working perfectly email address.
    After reading your message tonight, I tried my setup again with the preferred Apple ID (the one without the "." between the names), and for the first time ever, IT WORKS. Mail app configured the servers both send and receive as p01-smtp.mail.me.com and p01-imap.mail.me.com. For the first time, I'm able to send and receive into the Mail app, create mailboxes, move messages into and out of mailboxes, keep Sent messages, etc.
    I had a 50-minute support chat with MobileMe support via ExpressLane on Monday afternoon. They couldn't resolve my issue but passed me on to escalation. I was told to expect to get an email from advanced support by this afternoon, but none has arrived. However, so far tonight -- and I will check again tomorrow several times before declaring victory -- it looks like something has been fixed on the Apple end to make things work.
    I will report back after I do some additional testing tomorrow to make sure the fix is real and is solid...and before I let my friend, the new Mac user, know the good news.
    Regards,
    Mike

    Can't find printer brother printer

    I've been using my networked Brother printers on SL since day 1, actually since before day 1. No problems with IP printing and CUPS drivers at all. I've also been able to set up the scanner function over the network very easily.
    I've set my printer to a static number, tell the printer installer to use IP printing, and type in the IP number and the Mac finds the printer and assigned the driver.
    Have you tried "Resetting" the printer system by right clicking in the printer list box?
    Yes, I did try resetting the printer system.
    Obviously something is wrong because I can't add the printer. When I hit the plus sign it is not there unless I set up a Mac to share it.
    Thanks

  • I have a HP Laserjet P1102w printer hooked up to the USB port of my Airport Extreme. I'm able to print to the printer wirelessly from my MacBook Pro. My iPad (2nd gen) can't find the printer. What do I need to do?

    My iPad is on the same network as the Airport Extreme. The HP printer is on the list of Airprint printers but I'm not using it as a wireless printer, per se, as it's hooked up to the USB port on the Airport Extreme.
    I installed the HP ePrint app on my iPad. Unfortunately, the app could not find the printer either.
    As mentioned earlier, I'm able to print wirelessly to the HP printer via my MacBook Pro.

    ApplePearApple wrote:
    Since I'm able to print to the HP printer from my MacBook Pro using this configuration, shouldn't I be able to print to the printer from my iPad, especially when all of the devices are on/using the same network?
    Not necessarily. AirPrint uses a protocol separate from the communication protocol used for the Extreme's USB port. The HP printer may disable AirPrint when its USB port connected to a valid device, which is my reason for recommending you use it wirelessly.
    From AirPrint Basics:
    AirPrint printers connected using Bluetooth or shared through a USB port of a Mac, PC, AirPort Base Station, or Time Capsule are not supported.
    AirPrint printers connected by Ethernet are supported in OS X.
    You may get more competent assistance from HP. See this HP support forum topic: iPhone & iPad can't Airprint to p1102w LaserJet
    HP's Mac support has always been miserable though. I have been much happier since I abandoned HP and started buying Brother printers. They just work.

  • I can't seem to Print out the Object I made in this Map. Any ideas?

    Well here's my problem I'm trying to print out the Key's and Value's associated in the following MutliMap.
    The code formating seems to screw up < and >. My datastructure is a Multi Map, the Key is a String Object and
    the Value associated with that String Key is an ArrayList of an object of type Message I defined below.
    Map<String,List<Message>> = new HashMap<String,List<Message>>();
    Here's my code for where I try to Print everything (in the function print() ) .
    The Print just either prints out the KEY and no value, if I take out my ((Message)value) cast, it will print the Message class, like
    43343@Message because I'm assuming its wondering how to Print something that is an object I defined.
    Thats why I defined my own print function and I also override the toString() function but both don't work it seems.

    }I'm correctly populating my Messages sent to me from the client, I tested it and it works but iterating over them once the messages are inserted into the map is my issue.
    I'm not getting an error, just no output for the values
    here's how I'm adding the Messages to the MessageDB
    //This string is coming from a client
    String str = in.readLine();
    // creating a scanner to parse
    Scanner scanner = new Scanner(str);
    Scanner scannerPop = new Scanner(str);
    //Creating a new message to hold information
    Message msg = new Message();
    //place Scanner object here:
    MessageParser.printTokens(scanner);
    MessageParser.populateMessage(scannerPop, msg);
    System.out.println("-------PRINTING MESSAGE------\n");
    msg.print();
    System.out.println("----------END PRINT----------\n");
    System.out.println("-------Accessing data from Map----\n");
    MessageDB testDB = new MessageDB();
    testDB.add(msg);
    testDB.print();I know this code is ugly, I should make accessor and modifer functions for my Message class but for now I'm just trying to see if I this method is even going to work then I'm going to go about making it more protected.
    Also here is my output:
    that long mess is the incoming string from the client, and im parsing it up into tokens and assigning my message object certain values.

    The map contains the following associations:
    Serial (key): 446As you see it is printing the correct Serial, but it seems like it isn't even entering into the printing the value associated with that key.
    NOTE: if you need more code I can supply my parsing functions as well.

              else
              //adding message to List

    }Here is the message class you'll need to use to compile:
    package ds;
         public class Message {
              String Identifer;
              String Serial;
              String Node;
              String NodeAlias;
              String Manager;
              String Agent;
              Message()
                    Identifer = "";
                    Serial = "";
                    Node = "";
                    NodeAlias = "";
                    Manager = "";
                    Agent = "";
              void print()
                   System.out.println("Identifer: " + this.Identifer + '\n'
                             + "Serial: " + this.Serial + '\n'
                             + "Node: " + this.Node + '\n'
                             + "NodeAlias: " + this.NodeAlias + '\n'
                             + "Manager: "  + this.Manager + '\n'
                             + "Agent: " + this.Agent + '\n');
              public String toString()
                   return ("Identifer: " + this.Identifer + '\n'
                             + "Serial: " + this.Serial + '\n'
                             + "Node: " + this.Node + '\n'
                             + "NodeAlias: " + this.NodeAlias + '\n'
                             + "Manager: "  + this.Manager + '\n'
                             + "Agent: " + this.Agent + '\n');
         }It doesn't like this line as I suspected:
    System.out.println("value: " + ((Message)value) + "\n");

  • Why can't you simply print a photo in iPhoto? It wants me to create a "theme" first? What's that all about?

    When I try to print in iPhoto it won't let me print without creating a "theme" first. Is there any way you can just print? I don't want a theme, I just want to print!

    "themes" are simply print protocols. Yes you can have some layout, but plain is also theme. At a wild guess you're getting  a "no theme installed message"?
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
    2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
    A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
    If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
    If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
    If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • How can I select a printer in the moment when I want to print a report?

    Hi,
    I don't know is there are a way that when I want to print a report, appears a window where I can select a determinated printer in a list? Like when I print in Word that can call a window where appears all teh printers instaled in Windows and the I can select one. Anyone can help me please?
    Thanks

    You may do it by creating a LOV in your report-invoking env. to select the wanted printer and pass it to Reports. An example of doing it in Apex ....
    http://1.2.3.209/dev60cgi/rwcgi60?repdevi_key&server=Rep60_devi&report=myrpt.rdf&DESFORMAT=PDF&DESTYPE=PRINTER&DESNAME=hp2100&BACKGROUND=YES&P_1=....
    Or you may do it in Reports using Parameter Form.

  • Can no longer print to printer due to spooler VPN error

    When trying to print, I get an error that reads:   The print spooler was unable to connect to your printer.  This can be caused by your printer being turned off, the cable being unplugged, or being connected to a VPN, which will block your access to your local network.  I have tried resetting everything and I even uninstalled and reinstalled the print drivers without any success.  None of the computers can communicate to the printer anymore.  I'm desparate - please help.

    There are some differences in sharing but it will work. I have a G4 that I use as a server, too.
    First, tell me what printer model. There are driver differences, too.
    At the heart, CUPS (the print control subsystem) uses IPP as the print sharing protocol. That part hasn't changed. So I recommend, for troubleshooting, setting up the printer on the client using IP printer > IPP protocol.
    Here's a guide:
    1) On the 10.5 print server, use a browser and point it at the CUPS admin web page athttp://localhost:631
    Go to Printers list and find the queue name from the left side of the page next to the printer you want. Also note the IP address of the server Mac.
    2) On a client, Add the printer as an IP printer > IPP protocol, and enter the IP address and queue name you noted above.
    3) Select the generic postscript driver (on client Mac)
    (after reading your second post, I want to remind you to set the server to use the correct driver.)
    Finish and try it.

  • Can no longer print from Photoshop CS^ have upgraded drivers error message reads There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents."

    I have upgraded my iMac to Yosemite but now my two Canon Printers no longer print from Photoshop CS6. I have upgraded the drivers. All other applications including Lightroom are fine. I am receiving an error message as follows:"There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents." How can I get the OS to return a list of printers to Photoshop when Photoshop requests a list.

    Have you printed to this printer from 10.10 before?  If so, check your connections.

  • Supported printers not showing up in printer device drop down list

    I'm new to Mac so hopefully this is a problem that has been solved a hundred times over.
    I have a Canon i960 and an HP LaserJet 1012. Both Canon and HP state that Tiger 10.4.6 have built in drivers to support the printers. When I plug either printer in directly to the mbp, both are recognized immediately and work great.
    The problem is that I still use two Windows PC's in the house and the printers are both connected to the PC. I can share the Printers from the PC, and the mbp can see both of them, but the printer setup asks me to choose the device type, and neither of my printers show up in the list. I went out and bought a print server thinking I could solve the problem that way, and have the same problem... the device list does not display the i960 or the 1012.
    Not sure why I can plug the printers directly into the MacBook Pro and they are recognized immediately as the correct printer and they load the proper driver, but when the printers are shared (either through Windows or through the print server), I cannot select the proper printer from the device list, and therefore cannot print to the printers.

    I answered in the other topic first...
    Close to zero non-postscript drivers provided by manufacturers are capable of Windows/network printing. You need CUPS drivers for network printing. For the laserjet, you can install hpijs and ESP ghostscript from:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/
    For the Canon, the only known CUPS drivers are from: http://www.printfab.net
