Can't publish to local folder

Ok, I want to publish to a local folder on my desktop, so I click the site's name in the sidebar -- following directions that say : "In the Site Publishing Settings window appears, choose Local Folder from the 'Publish to' pop-up menu."
Problem is, I don't get a Site Publishing Settings window, & so can't "choose Local Folder from the 'Publish to' pop-up menu."
Where's the Site Publishing Settings window? And the “Publish to” pop-up menu?
Something's happening wrong when I select the site & click its name in the sidebar window.

Figured it out. Duh. I'd been clicking on the Home page & not the Site icon itself. Now window comes up. Thanks for the help, all is solved.

I recently purchased a macbook pro with osx 10.8.3. my websites are set up using iweb. i downloaded iweb 09 and transfered my files to iweb, published to local folder, filezilla seems to be working fine, but when i visit my site there are no changes. when i view published site the changes are there. what is the problem? can someone please help

If the files are in the right location on the server and you are sure they are replaced, then the only thing left to do is to clear the browser cache and reload the page.

For iWeb, I like to do only one site per domain file. I move domain files out of the Application Support folder and place them inside project or client folders, or in DropBox. Once you duplicate a domain file and begin customizing it, it will load and behave as a separate project/site.
I publish each iWeb domain/project direct to a server via FTP. Sometime I publish to a folder, then upload via FTP manually.
iWeb is a remarkable tool, especially when you work from scratch with blank tamplates

Can't public to local folder

I posted this last week on the OS X Server discussions, but haven't gotten a reply. Thought I'd give this section a try, so I apologize for the duplicate postings.
Two weeks ago, LDAP took a nose dive on us. I backed up the users' data to a spare drive, wiped the system drive clean and re-installed. Due to the fact that this school still uses Mac Manager (cringe cringe), I first went from OS X Server 10.3 to 10.4. Ran all updates, pulled all home dirs back, re-imported all users. All was well in the jungle.
However, I'm now getting reports that iWeb will not let the kids publish to a folder in their home directories. They can open iWeb just fine, but when they publish to a local folder, iWeb crashes. This happens for both old users and users created after the server rebuild. Here's what I get in the log when iWeb crashes...
iWeb[475] SFUTemporaryDirectory: Error -5000 from FSFindFolder(kTemporaryFolderType) for the user's home directory volume
iWeb[475] SFUTemporaryDirectory: Could not find ANY volume temporary folder.
The odd things are that:
A - Students have used these same Macs before to create their pages
B - Not all of the Macs seem to be affected by this issue.
C - Deleting/readding the LDAP entry in Directory Access does not appear to solve this.
D - Nor do reboots.
E - Local accounts are not problematic.
F - Wiping out iWeb preferences and the iWeb folder in ~/Library/Caches/ does not help, either.
Any ideas, people?

I upgraded from iWeb '06 to iWeb '09-now I can't publish to a folder

I'm having 2 issues after upgrading from a powerbook G4 running Tiger with iWeb '06 to a macbook pro running Snow Leopard with iWeb '09. I migrated my website created with iWeb '06 over to iWeb '09 and I'm having 2 issues.
1. Every page in the website brings up a window that says "The following errors occurred while trying to open this document: Type: Substituted Font; Description: The font "Arial-BoldMS" was substituted for..."
Then it says "To include missing fonts, add them to your fonts folder, then quit and reopen iWeb."
This happens every time I open iWeb, even after I click "Continue" in the dialogue box. Where can I find the font that is being replaced--it doesn't list it in the dialogue window. And how can I download it to add to my fonts folder?
2. When I try to "Publish Entire Site" or "Publish Site Changes," a dialogue window pops up saying "Publish Error: Can't create the file "index.html." The disk may be damaged or full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
I am the administrator user, so that's not the issue. I have over 300 GBs of free disk space, so that's not the issue. The disk is not damaged because everything else is working just fine.
I am not familiar with the way iWeb '09 publishes. In iWeb '06, when I selected "Publish to a folder" from the File drop down window, it brought me to a screen in order to select a folder to which to publish. That feature is gone in iWeb '09, with the "Publish entire site" and "Publish site changes" taking its place, but I don't see where it has options to configure FTP or even input where you want your site to go and what domain name it is. How do I direct iWeb to publish the site to a folder or upload it to my Godaddy.com web host?

Can't Publish to a folder on iWeb

I host two web sites for a genealogy program ( USGENPROJ ) and have been using an old Pagemill program , with Fetch for my FTP. I just bought iWeb ( part of iLife 8) and started transferring some of my pages over from Pagemill to iWeb. I click "publish to a folder" ( as I'm not using .Mac ). The dialog box asks for my URL ( which I copy & paste right from one of my two existing web sites). When I click to transfer the info to the folder I always get an " unknown error" notice. I've tried a number of times and always get the same error . Please help.

Roddy: In Pagemill, I select a block of text and "copy" it. Then I open iWeb & choose a "blank" template , draw a text frame and then click "paste". Now I've transferred my selected text to my iWeb page. Everything is working ok at this point and the text is now on my iWeb page. Next, I choose " publish to a folder" as I'm not using .Mac . I want to "transfer" my text to the folder so that I can see what its going to look like on Safari. A dialog box opens up asking me to insert the URL exactly as it will be seen on the web site, so I go to the existing web site and "copy" the URL, then back to the dialog box and "paste" in the URL, then I click" create". At this point I get the "unknown error" message. and a couple of times the Safari site opens up saying it doesn't recognize the URL and it shows something like the following: /users/monty/desktop/site/blank/. How can I open a local folder using flash builder or AS3?

I need to open a local folder get the zip file and unzip it.
I know that i cannot open a folder using flash builder, i did it using air app. now i do not know how do i integrate it with my flex program.

Help! iWeb can't publish to .Mac & folder, keeps hanging.

Hi guys, would appreciate your help here. I'm new to to using iWeb. Just purchased and installed iWeb a couple of days ago. I've designed my webpages using iWeb and uploaded into www.mac.com, just the basic Welcome, About Me and Blog pages.
But after that 1st successful attempt, my iWeb can't synchronise with iDisk & .Mac properly and it froze in the middle of the publishing process. I was forced to force quit iWeb. Subsequent attempts to publish using the Publish button and Publishing to Folders alternatives yielded the same results - connection error, hanging of iWeb and fruitless synching of webpages to iDisk & .Mac. So ended up can't proceed or update my already published webpages.
After that I registered another .Mac account and tried publishing directly, publishing to folder, synchronising etc... but still no luck as iWeb either hanged, gave error box stating "check internet connection or totally didn't synch the files at all to Homepage though the process went thru.
I also discovered that after restarting my powerbook, there are folders in the trash with names such as com.apple.iWeb584_1862039531. Does that render iWeb unfunctionable.
Any help is much appreciated.

My site is very small. The capacity taken up indicated by iDisk after synching is only 1MB. Bandwidth tests indicated an estimated 4700kbps download speed and 300kbps upload speed. Currently, I'm subscribed to a 10Mbps ADSL broadband plan and connected wireless to the router *** modem.
The present configuration for the internet settings include a web proxy (HTTP) as given by my ISP. I've read somewhere in this forum that proxies may filter or block non-standard html codes generated from/by iWeb.
I've tried to bypass that proxy by connecting via ethernet cable to the router and unchecking the proxy setting. But another error occurred stating 'configuration error' by iWeb.
So does the problem lie with the proxy settings or with iWeb itself?
PS: I can't get my ISP to turn off the proxy, and the only way to take away that proxy is to terminate the internet subscription.

Mounting a local folder

Using OS X 10.6.4, can I mount a local folder? Here's what I want to do. I have piece of software that I'm trying to install on my MacBook Pro. The software requires additional files. I have those files on in a folder on the MBP. The software prompts me to insert the cd with the files into the drive. The software will not allow me to browse to the local folder. The contents are 6.5 Gb. I'd rather not bother with having to burn all those files onto discs.
So can is there a way I can just tell the OS to mount the folder so that (hopefully) the software reads it as a CD and will read the files from there?

You might try creating a .dmg disk image file from the folder:
Disk Utility>File menu>New>Disk Image from folder
Double-clicking the .dmg file would then mount it as a volume.
It would probably take a while to create a 6.5GB disk image, but it would be faster than burning to optical media.

I can't publish my site to a local folder.

I can't publish my site to a local folder. It says "Publish Error. An unknown error occurred". There is also no Domain.site2 in iWeb folder in Application Support. I was wondering if anybody may be able to help please? I can open the site from the local folder but working on changes will not work and some catagories don't show properly. I'm using Snow Leopard, iWeb 3.0.4. OS X 10.6.8

Are you looking in the correct library. You want the Home () /Library/Application Support folder.
Or you can download and run the shareware Find Any File to search for "domain.sites2". FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't and will find the domain file.

IWeb doesn't publish my entire site to a local folder!!!

a few months now i have a problem on publishing my iweb sites to a local folder! For example i have a website that is 40 pages. When i press to publish it on a local folder, it starts publishing, and then i have "an unknown error occurred". When i check the folder, it has about 25-30 published pages and the others are missing. I tried with another site, that is about 10 pages and worked fine. But site with more pages have problem!
Any suggestion?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Launch the Console utility and see what, if any, messages regarding iWeb have been recorded. You might event watch it as you're trying to publish.
Also you can try the following:
1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
4 - launch iWeb and see if there's any improvement.
If that doesn't help continue:
5 - move the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
6 - launch iWeb, create a new test site and save.
7 - go to the your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
8 - move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
9 - launch iWeb and try again.

I've read through at least 30 pages on this forum and seem to be unable to find something to help me remedy my problem.
I made a really simple site in iWEB. When I publish to a folder and click the "visit this site now" button, everything looks perfect. However, once I upload the site, using Fetch, the site looks awful. The Arial font is replaced by something else. The "made on a mac" image disappears. The navbar is non existent, and none of my other pages display properly (when I manually enter there addresses).
I read a previous post about changing my Fetch settings so that data uploads in binary (raw) form and did that. I tried changing text-encoding in my browser to UTF-8, but that did not help either.
I've cleared the folder on my home computer a number of times and tried republishing and re-uploading and that does not help. I've tried viewing the page in Safari, Mozilla, and Explorer, and it looks terrible in all 3. The site is:

You have changed the permissions (or they are incorrect) on your home_files directory. I get a forbidden message when trying to access that directory. The sylesheet (css) and other files there dictate how the home page is diplayed. Make sure that all the permissions on the directories for your site are set correctly.

When using Message Filters on an IMAP account I often get duplicate messages in my local folder where important messages are put. How can I stop this?

Since switching to IMAP and using message filters, I often get duplicate messages in my local folders. I think this is a bug.
That is my guess as to what is happening.
When the IMAP part starts syncing with the server to fill in the inbox, the message filter system starts working before it is done syncing. I appears that the filters runs too quickly because as the filter moves a msg to a local folder, the sync thread think it need to download it again from the server. If the sync with the remote server takes a long time, I could end up with 5 or more copies of the exact same email.
This has always happened for years now but I figured someone would have noticed it and fix it by now. Now I am wondering it it has something to do with my filters or my settings.
Has anyone run into this before?

I was just doing a search to see if anyone else was feeling this way! I am also at a university and I don't really like see thousands of unread messages in mail. (Fortunately, with Leopard you can select the dock icon to show only the messages in your inbox but I still don't like having the public folder in there).
Please let me know if you find out anything and I will do the same for you. If I have time later I am going to run by our IT office later and ask them.
