Can't put anything on top of paged-sized GIF image?

I created a GIF file and successfully inserted it on a blank document. Now it seems I cannot put my cursor on top of it, meaning I cannot insert table, smaller jpg image, text, etc. Advice would be much appreciated.

Remove your image from the page. Go to Modify->Page Properties. Then for Appearance (CSS) there is an option for a background image for your page. Browse to your image and then it will be a background that you can place your content over.

Can I put buttons on top of a slideshow?

My client has asked the latest cover of their magazine to have a slow crossfade of about 5 images as the background, with elements such as logos & links to articles over the top.
I thought this would be easy since the Slideshow » Crossfade feature is simple to control, but I run into trouble as soon as I put anything on top of it—the slideshow appears on top of everything else in the preview, even if it's an interactive element.
Am I missing a step somewhere? I feel like this should be a relatively simple thing to do—but it's been about 6 months since my last DPS project so I'm a little rusty, and a lot has been updated in the meantime.
My other option would be to do the crossfade in Photoshop and import as an image sequence, but I suspect I'd run into the same problem (correct me if I'm wrong!).
Or I could do the animation in Edge Animate and import as an HTML object. Would either of those options give me better results? They seem a little more complex for essentially the same end product.

Yep, they're buttons.
So far I've only added one button, for initial testing. It's the client's logo as a placed Illustrator file. In Buttons and Forms, it's type is a Button, I've named it and On Release or Tap it has a Go To URL action. It has no rollover or click states and it is not Hidden Until Triggered. I feel like I'm missing a step somewhere there...
Putting the buttons into each state of the MSO works fine, but is less than ideal since they'll change many times before the final version. Updating 5 versions of the same thing each time will get a bit tedious! That's the only way I can get it to work for now though, so I'll keep going like that.
Adding a text frame with scrollable content works fine - it appears on top of the slideshow.
Adding another slideshow on top works as well... but my buttons don't!
EDIT: And yes, I mean in Adobe Content Viewer. It displays the same on the desktop version and on my iPad.

I'm guessing you are referencing the Calendar app.
Try resetting:
Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost.

I can't put anything on the trash it keeps saying that it has to be deleted

I was wondering if there is a way of fixing this problem I have with not being a able to put anything on the trash, it keeps me from being able to delete an application that has to go to the trash can before being deleted and I can't delete songs from itunes unless I go to the folder itself where all the songs are and delete them immediately as it doesn't let me put then on the trash

Sounds like a permissions issue. Open Disk Utility and repair permissions on your HD.

I can't put anything into trash no permission

I turned on my old mini for the first time in over a year and can't move anything into the trash. First finder asks for a password which I give then trash won't let me. Says "cannot complete because you don't have permission to access some of the items". I went to trash>file>get info and nothing was in the read/write pull down so I pulled down my name which is an administrator, clicked it and got "could not complete an unexpected error occurred. Error message 136". Can anyone explain what the heck is going on?

Hi, it sounds like you may have many problems, & it may take awile to work through them, but the new Forum SW doesn't make it easy.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
On that error... Error message 136, could it have been -36?
Well, in pure Apple File System talk... -36 ioErr I/O error (bummers)
Not very helpful, but generally means a Drive quit being Readable or Writable since starting the operation, which is not a good sign... do you have a current Backup?

Can I put only the top image of a stack in a Mobile Album?

I have an album that contains stacks and I would like to put only the top images of these stacks in a Mobile Album. Is this possible?
I have tried to make a new album and only put the top images in this new album without sucess. Is it possible to have a stack of images in one album and only the top image in another ablum?
I hope someone knows about this

Hi Surendra,
My target is to find a convenient way to transfer my best photos only to my iPad
By using stacks for similar photo and putting my best shot on top I reduce the number of images displayed in the organizer. A typical stack contains of 8 shots.
Then I put my best stacks in an album. By using the Slide Show in PE I have a convenient way to display only my best shot and tha's OK for my computer were I have a lot of disc space.
But on my iPad the size of memory is limited and it also takes some time to transfer a huge number of images so now I want to find a convenient way of tranfering only the top image of each stack. If I could have a separate album containing only the top images from each stack the task would have been easy.
Now this is not possible so now I hope there is another solution than acually making a separate copy (a new file) of each top image and put these copies in a separate album. This will of course work but it will end up in having two identical images showing up in the organizer and so I do not really like this idea.
I hope I have managed to describe my intention and do you have an idea for a workaround or do I need to make separate copies?

Can't add anything on top full motion clip

I have several full motion clips in my simulation. Each has
some sensitive information I want to block out by inserting a
Highlight Box. I've done this on several of my full motion clips
with no problem. However, I have one clip that simply will not show
ANYTHING that I put on top of the clip--only the clip will display.

really meant to be civil, and it isn't really a request for
information, but still, it's a suggestion worthy of taking
seriously. I've already answered that question in a general sense,
but I can repeat my thought processes in a step-by-step, and hope
that "jsheeha" and others might benefit (assuming that everyone
hasn't already tried it on their own).
And if you can learn something in the process, all the
better, Rick. Glad you asked, though the application is so simple
that explaining its use feels ~ odd, somehow.
(by the way, what is "an OP"? I have seen you use that term
before but am unfamiliar with its use - thanks)
To continue, what "jsheeha" gave us appears to be a
(Camtasia?) clip of a larger project clip. I don't like making
assumptions, but that one is required in this case. The below steps
won't work in every situation, perhaps, but they represent some of
the capability of the FMREditor for Captivate, and as such, are
worth a look, a little thought, and a little imaginative use.
1) Create a new movie without the offending title-bar
contents.
2) Be sure it is the same physical size (X pixels width by X
pixels height)
3) Publish it to SWF (HTML file is unnecessary at this
point).
4) Load the entire original full-motion recording (published
SWF) into the FMREditor.
5) Go to the point at which the offending material appears.
6) Click the "Toggle Marker" and change to "Insert SWF" mode
if necessary
7) Select the previously published replacement movie (or
isolated frames, as necessary)
8) Insert it into the original FMR, combining the two.
9) Using the Toggle Marker once more, change to "Delete" mode
10) Move to the beginning of the "bad" section and mark it.
... you can "mark" beginning and ending frames by moving the
playhead to the point you want to begin or end, then "click" the
inward-facing black arrows, the left will set the beginning, the
right will set the ending frame ...
11) Go to end of "bad" section and mark it as well.
12) Delete the portion containing the sensitive information.
13) Save the changed project.
I realize that you are probably not
really interested in learning how to do this, Rick, and are
just continuing in your efforts to prove me wrong in everything I
recommend to others. But I wrote this anyway, in the hope that the
thoughts might be helpful to "jsheeha" or other interested users.
If it doesn't work in this particular situation, the FMREditor
might be helpful to someone in a different situation now, or at a
later time. Again, I hope this was helpful, and by the way Rick, no
apology is necessary - just quit trying to prove me wrong every

How can I put text on top of a graphic in Framemaker 11?

I am using Framemaker 11. When I import an image from Photoshop (EPS file) and put a text box on top, I can't get the text to be on top of the graphic without jumping to the next page. Is there a setting that I'm missing in Framemaker? The image is just borders, like a frame, and I'm trying to put the text inside the blank space.

I suggest you use the text frame tool (to the left of Arnis' supplied screenshot) and set the background of the text frame (the diagonal b/w lines below the text frame tool) to None.
When all else fails, add the text to the graphic, save as PDF or other appropriate format, and place as needed.

I can't put anything in Trash, error code -36

Everytime I try to move anything into Trash this message appears:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “xyz” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)
I cannot move anything to trash or delete anything, doesn't matter if its a word document, .jpg image or a pdf preview nothing will go. I tried to look up error code -36 but it said something about a Windows server and to check the Console screen for a certain message but theres no record of the error on there.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have a wrong owner. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — all of the next line into the Terminal window, then press return:

Can't put anything on my iPhone from my new computer

Got a new iPhone a few weeks ago and transfered most of my music/apps/ebooks/etc with my old computer, a Windows Vista. That computer was about two and a half years old and on its last legs, so now I have a new laptop. I can connect and transfer things to my iPod touch perfectly fine with the new computer, but for some reason, I'm unable to do the same with my iPhone. I had some videos on my iPod touch that I never got around to transferring to my iPhone, but every time I load iTunes, I get the circle with the cross through it and it won't let me move anything from my iTunes onto my iPhone.
I'm logged in to my iTunes account, using the exact same library as I had on my old computer, and it won't work. Any help on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. I saw suggested via Yahoo Answers to resync the iPhone, but I don't want to have to erase all my apps and music that's already on it...

Did you authorize your new computer: Store>Authorize this Computer. You can't prevent all of the iTunes content, currently on your phone, from being erased the first time you sync with your new computer. By design, an iPhone will sync or manually manage iTunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync or manually manage this content with a second computer will result in all iTunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. If you move/copy your iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer, this shouldn't present a problem, as you'll be replacing like content with like content.

possible to place buttons on graphics on top of a quicktime movie
in Director. I have an actor pointing to the left and I want
a button to appear. The right and again another button! My video is
pretty much full screen so have nowhere else to but the buttons. I
could of course make the movie smaller. But it would look bad on my
project.

Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

Can I put Network Users on a sparse bundle disk image?

Hello! Can anyone out there help me figure out what seems to be a rather complicated feat? I'm trying to get users to log in to client iMacs as if they were local accounts, but the user account information is stored on a sparse bundle disk image.
Long story short, I've currently got OS X Server running network user accounts tied to Active Directory. When the users log in, they have a sparse bundle disk image that automatically mounts on their desktop. This has been an effective solution for some of our software that doesn't play well with Network storage, as the sparse bundle is treated like local storage by the Macs.
However, what would be a much better solution for us is to actually have the whole user account stored on the disk image. It's a little like the way FileVault 1 worked, except the disk image is actually stored on a network drive. So far, as a proof-of-concept, I've been able to make this work manually: I've had to log in to a local admin user and then mount the user's sparse bundle with all their user folder contents contained within. Then, once the user path is changed to point to the disk image, the user logs right in, everything works exactly as expected (once I got the permissions set correctly). This method works exactly like a Network User account except that all the applications see it as local storage instead of network storage.
The trick, though, is automating this process. I want a user to sit down in front of any iMac, log in and go straight to their account. It would be nice if OS X Server was able to accommodate this with a setting, but it doesn't. So, my plan so far has been to create a generic local account with a script on the desktop that users can open to login in. The script would then mount the network share, then mount the sparse bundle disk image, then log the user in to their "local" account on the iMac. When they log out, there's a login hook that restarts the machine.
So far, I'm stumbling over the fact that the sparse bundle unmount when logging out of the generic "login" account, preventing the user from logging in. But if I leave the generic account logged in, then the loginhook to restart the computer doesn't work.
Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

IIRC, sparse images only grow as things are added, but do not shrink. Create a new one, mount the original, transfer your stuff from the original into the new one, and delete the original one.

My iPod Touch won't connect to iTunes or my computer, and the "on this iPod" tab is gone out of the blue. I can't put any more music onto my iPod, and I can't erase anything off of it either! What can I do?

I got it as a gift a couple years ago, so I'm not sure exactly what generation it is. My iPod Touch will not connect to iTunes or my computer, and the "on this iPod" tab is also gone. I can't put anything new onto it and I can't take anything old off of it! This just happened recently as well, as it was working fine up until a couple months or so ago. What can I do?

Can i use anything else to sync my ipod?

i keep having the message that my ipod cannot be updated as there is a missing file. I've followed the guide on here and have reinstalled it etc and followed advice on here, but it still doesn't work.
I'm sick of i-tunes, can I use anything else to put songs on my ipod? I know that media player doesn't recognise ipods, but is there something else I can download to put songs on.
This is really frustrating me, and I'm thinking of taking my ipod back, have only had it 3 days, but if I can't put anything on it there's no point in me having one.

These programs will all let you manage an iPod however there are a couple of things that they won't do:
a) You won't be able to update the firmware on your iPod if a new version comes along. The iPod software updater is integrated into iTunes 7
b) If purchasing iTunes Music is something you wanted to do you won't be able to buy from the iTunes Music store.
