the second thing I am support to do is to drag firefox icon over to the A folder I can't do it not with a single click or a double click or just drag it over to A folder there is where I am stuck then from the A folder I should drag the the firefox icon down to the dock but I can't

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the Firefox disk image (DMG) file and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.

Can't drag an icon to the dock

I am a recent Mac convert and I just set up user profiles on my Mac Mini for my two kids. My son plays Pirates of the Caribbean online. I installed it on the Mac and when I opened the applications folder and tried to drag the icon into the doc it wouldn't drag and I got an error message saying I couldn't launch the application from there. I wasn't trying to start it from there, only drag it. There was no problem performing the same task with Safari. I also had no problem dragging the icon to the dock under my user profile (admin.) Does anyone have any ideas of what I need to do to fix this?

If you have Parental Controls turned on you must explicitly allow an application to launch. You've downloaded a new program and by default it cannot be run. You'll need to open Parental Controls, find the program in the list of applicaitons, and put a checkmark on it to give permission to it to run.
Also when you get application update alerts and update a program, be sure to try running it immediately. Sometimes Parental Controls will see an updated program as being totally new and you'll need to go back in and set its permission again.

Can I swop an icon in the Dock?

Okay, a bit unlikely, but a good icon is a pleasing thing.
For ages I've used a third party app with a great icon but now I've changed to a new equivalent — it does a better job but has a really bad icon.
Can I swop icons with Terminal or otherwise modify one?

For starters, I took a screenshot of the old Dock icon that I want to re-use with Snapz Pro X and got a 70 KB 63 x 65 RGB .tiff image. Then I do as you say, "Select the app, CMD+I, click on the icon," but find I can't paste in the new image.
Maybe it's this particular app -- the icon I want to replace is for Snapheal and to start it up, one drags an image onto its icon in the dock. So when I try to paste in the new image, the app starts up.

Clicking dock icon adds another firefox icon to the dock

Recently upgraded to Firefox 3.6.10.
When I clicked on my Firefox dock icon the Firefox app icon appeared on the dock in another location--and vanished when I quit Firefox.
So I deleted the dock icon, and created a new one from the new Firefox app icon in my apps folder.
Same thing occurs...click on Firefox dock icon and app icon appears on the dock. The dock icon does NOT show Firefox as active. Quit Firefox and reopen, this time the dock icon is the only Firefox icon showing...and shows as active app.

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the DMG file and drag to Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.

Firefox will not open. Using Mac 10.6.7.
Previously we got notices that we should download the new Firefox version, but it would not open--just spun its wheels.

I just noticed you can't right click icons in the dock when in Mission Control. I think this would be useful for turning off other apps easilt from full screen mode.

For me no. I think it's just as much or more effort as cmd-tab (or swipe) to the open app and then cmd-q to close it.

You mean the dock. You can put the Firefox icon in the dock by dragging the icon from where Firefox is installed and dropping it on the dock.

Hi! I have a brand new loaded iMac and I use Firefox more than Safari. I use "Little Fox" as it gives much more usuable viewing area. Anyway, I love our iMac, but i miss the ability to place stuff on our desktop top. Is it possible to put Yahoo and Google in the dock and connect directly? Click and drag the icon next to the yahoo/google address in the address bar to the dock. Go all the way to the right and space will be made, let go, and then you can click that icon in the dock to automatically go to google or yahoo.

I had this problem. Re-instal Firefox. After you drag the Firefox icon in to the Applications icon it is going to ask you if you're sure that you want to replace the version that's there - say yes. Then go down to your dock and remove the Firefox icon - drag it off the dock so it "poof!s" away. You can now put the icon on your dock again from your newly updated version. If that doesn't fix it drag it off the dock again, probably no need to re-update for the third time. Fixed it for me anyway. GL!

Hi! Can someone tell me how to remove the Finder icon from the dock? I don't even care if Finder quits. I just want it removed from the dock. I really don't care if I can't get to my files. Please help.

Start by going to your core services, (/system/library/coreservices). You can do this by pressing Shift+Cmd+G and then paste (/system/library/coreservices), without parentheses.
After doing this, find Dock.app, right click, show package contents. This doesn't contain the icons on your dock, just finder and trash.
After that, move all finder services to the desktop, and then erase them from the core services folder. At this point it will prompt you to put in your password, do so.
Next you'll want to open terminal and type 'killall dock' or, you could restart your computer.
This should remove the finder icon from your dock, while still giving you access to it from your desktop.

Under internet explorer I can put an icon on the desktop for a particular site so that my husband can find it easily! He reads the Times on Line but there is a technical problem with using Internet Explorer so we were advised to try Mozilla Firefox. The problem doesn't occur on Firefox but I can't find out how to put an icon on the desktop for him.

They can't be deleted. They can be moved by holding one until they wiggle. Look on other pages or in any folders created by putting one app on top of another one. You can also go to settings - general - reset - reset home screen layout to return the app layout to the original look.

One further question, if I may: in Panther (which is where I've aggregated nearly 7 years of mail), if you copy more than one file in the Finder, switch to Mail, and paste the files into a new message, only the file names paste in. If you copy one file and paste it into a Mail message, you get the file, not just the name. Is that still true, or has that (IMHO) bug been fixed since 10.3.9?

Applications should not disappear all by themselves.
If they are then that coud indicate serious problems with your hard drive.
Backup everything up as quickly as possible.
Using Disk Utility verify your system disk.
