Can't re-download Mountain Lion (recent purchase)

I recently bought Mountain Lion from the online Apple Store, went through the rigamarole with the encrypted PDF, and downloaded it. In the App Store, it is now listed among my purchased software, but when I attempt to download it again, I cannot. Earlier today, when I tried to re-download it, App Store asked me to log in with a different ID. It was NOT the ID I had used in the online store to purchase ML, so that made no sense to me, but I tried it anyway. When I logged in with the different ID (which I have used so seldom, I didn't even remember that I had it), it didn't show ML as a purchased app, not surprisingly. When I went back to trying to use my main ID, I just got the same old crap telling me to use a different ID.
Tonight I get "We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later (100)."
What is the problem? This does not inspire much confidence in Apple's online services.

When I tried to invoke Time Machine it said no useable B/U could be found, even though I'd been using it all along and was surprised there wasn't one. I don't have any other B/U system except my old internal HD with everthing on it--including ML OS.
I'm not going to risk quitting the installer to try to save the huge ML file I'm still downloading; I'm going to just go for the automatic installation. I'd have to DL it again anyway even if I knew how to save a copy of it.  My understanding is it goes away once it's used--which is why I couldn't find it on my old internal disk.
Update: as of a few minutes ago, after about the fourth attempt, I was able to update SL to allow me access to the Apple Store.  I did this by first making a new administrator account in SL that did not require ANY password. I reasoned that I would thus be able to gain entry no matter what; apparently it worked, or something else did this trip around the merry-go-round.
Right now, I'm  stilll downloading the Mountain Lion update (glacier speed, of course).
The final test will be if the whole thing blows up when I install ML.  If it does, I'm wiping the HD and starting completely over.  I'll then try to move my files folder by folder onto the new HD and go through the ordeal of reinstalling all my software again.
This is a true PAIN in the butt and time waster.  One would think that the updaters would be able to recognize and simply delete or quarantine incongruent system files so they can't wreck things.  And one would think there was a non-magical/secret way to download and make bootable a copy of any OS.
Thanks for your reply.

Sorry Josh, I'm having a bad day with my illness.
Can I ask you to repost this question? Might try in the Mountain Lion forum as well as here.
Put "Mountain Lion Install fails" in the headline box, then from your second post -
"When i run The OSX Mountain Lion Icon i downloaded from the App Store it always gets to the point when its about to restart but the it keeps saying "please quit the application and try again" Now i've tried Re-Downloading it a lot of times but that doesn't work"
and add the Mac specification -

Sorry I can't concentrate sufficiently today.

  • Unable to download Mountain Lion after purchase in App store.

After purchasing Mountain Lion in App store, I have been unable to successfully download a copy.
It was not interrupted, it just stops.
Every attempt (including the first) fails at 142 MB, with the meaningless "unable to download" error. In the console log I find this:
7/31/13 2:32:56.894 PM storeagent: ISStoreURLOperation: Expected bytes (4437341116) did not match actual (142374555)! Setting error. (See 9215068)
indicating the error. The file was expected to be 4.4 GB (yes), but does not match actual 142 MB...?
I have found references to this error, but no real fix. I have tried every "fix" suggested; Safe boot, guest user login, deleting temp files, hidden files, app store files, debug mode in app store, repairing permissions, changing ethernet ports, changing DNS (loved that one), and others.
I finally erased the hard drive with zeroes, re-installed 10.7, software updated to 10.7.5 and immediately attempted download - it still fails.
I also have no virus software or little snitch, or anything else that would prevent downloads. I have been able to download free and purchased software from the app store (xcode, pages, ibooks author) - that are more than 142MB.
So this is not an ISP, modem, or some other thing preventing me from downloading using the app store. It is a problem *only* with downloading Mountain Lion.
This seems like an Apple problem. Anybody have a real fix?

Are you quite sure? Check your model identifier. If you have the first model released, then it cannot run anything past Lion. Be sure you meet ALL the requirements.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • Can I move downloaded mountain lion to different machine?

Weird internet connection at office (DNS server settings or some other gremlin that's beyond my expertise) won't let computers download Mountain Lion from App Store. Other apps are fine, could be a size issue not sure. Anyway, I downloaded to another machine using another internet connection (different location). Can I move that download to different machine? How?

Yes as long as these are both your computers. Transfer target disk mode, USB flash drive, external HD, DVD, Dropbox, etc
Are the computer close by and portable or at a distance??  This might dictate how you move your download.

  • I am running OS 10.7.6 Lion . Why can't I download MOUNTAIN LION?

I am running Lion 0n my MacBook. It has system 10.7.6. When I tried to download Mountain Lion, I received a message that I could not downlad it to this computer. Why?

Your MacBook may not be compatible. Check the list below to determine if it meets the requirements outlined by Apple.
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)

  • Can't download Mountain Lion after purchase

I bought Mountain Lion and received two emails. I entered the code to access the pdf that contains a redemption code for the actual download. However, the App store won't accept this code. After and hour on the phone to Apple with no answers I seem to have paid for nothing! I'd appreciate some suggestions as I really need this browser update.

Are you carefully cutting & pasting the redemption code from the pdf to the Mac App Store? No extra space at the beginning or the end?
If this is truly an invalid code, have you called the Apple Store and spoken to them about your purchase? What did they say?
If you get no where with the Apple Store, then turn to Customer Relations. Call Apple Care 1-800-MY-APPLE. You may have to tell the automated system that you have a security issue to get past the credit card request, since this is not about hardware with a serial number. When the first tier agent answers the phone, calmly tell them you have an issue that you wish to escalate immediately to Customer Relations. CR agents are authorized to do almost anything to make customers happy.

  • Clicking to re-Downloading mountain lion under purchases does nothing

I have an iMac mid-2011 that came with snow leopard and eventually I upgraded to mountain lion. With the update it became quite sluggish and after some time I decided that I might aswell try doing a clean install on the first opportunity.
Now that Mavericks came out, I decided to re-download the Mountain Lion image to keep in store (for some future clean installing); but strangely enough when I click on the download button at my App Store Purchases, I get rightfully warned that "10.8.5 is already installed. If you want to download the full OSX ML installer click continue". When I press continue, the download button becomes disabled, and stays so until I leave the purchases tab... No internet traffic, nothing... I simply doesn't want to download it. I'm puzzled.
Is it only me that can't download ML, or is it some bug with the delivery system now that Mavericks is out?
    Thanks

    Thank you Eric!
    I had already tried the Opt key but the debug menu trick was new to me;
Unfortunately resetting the application didn't do the trick.
I however enabled the debug logging and here's what I got (I've just emailed the support, so the following information is more for anybody who encounters the same problem in the future)

  • HT2404 Downloading Mountain Lion after purchasing app

As soon as I purchased the mountain lion app it says "download" next to the icon under recent purchases in the app store but as soon as I click on it says "download" again and nothing more happens. Has this happened to anyone else? Any troubleshooting advice before I need to take it in to the store?

Thank you, I waited 3 hours then noticed the icon on my dock. I appreciate it!

  • Why can't I download mountain lion.

The app store will allow me to download free and paid apps.  But the app store won't even let me try to download it.  Any suggestions?

Make sure your Mac qualifies to install Mountain Lion >  Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
If your Mac qualifies, select Categories at the top of the App Store window then click Account under Quick Links right side of the App Store window.
Enter your Apple ID and password then click View Account. You may have to re enter your password twice.
That should take you to the Account Information window.
Click Edit to the right of Payment Type.
Make sure your credit or debit card credentials are correct including the Security code and expiration date.
Then click Done bottom right side of the window.
    Now try purchasing Mountain Lion.
If your payment information is correct, reinstall the App Store by downloading and installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo)
It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.7.4
Then try the App Store again.
You may need to disable anti virus software before installing Mountain Lion.

  • Can't continue downloading Mountain Lion after reconnecting to internet

Hi, i was downloading my Mountain Lion, but my internet failed. When I reconnected to the internet and tried to continue the downloading, I noticed that the "Mountain Lion downloading" icon disappeared from my Lauchpad and I couldn't find it anywhere. The downloading was around 5%, so I'm pretty sure I don't have Mountain Lion in my computer yet.
I went to the Apple Store --> Redeem page, and entered my downloading code, hoping that I could start the download all over, but i got an error message saying that the code had been used.
Could anybody tell me how to continue my downloading please? Much appreciated!!

Never mind. I just figured it out myself: Went to the Apple Store, find Mountain Lion, and simply click "download". --I didn't know that I could download it again! Sorry, i'm an absolute newbie to Mac

  • Can we still download Mountain Lion now that Mavericks is out?

Unfortunately, my Macbook is too old to install the Mavericks OS. Is there a way users like me still get Mountain Lion?

    You are wrong.
To install Mountain Lion, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
Your MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2008) is not able to run neither Mountain Lion or Mavericks. You could go as high as Lion. That's all.

  • HT202159 Hi can anyone help? Can't download - Mountain lion now permanently 'paused' in the dock. Purchase page does not have the resume button and I have already signed in & out again... HELP!

    Hi
    Can anyone advise...
Cannot download Mountain Lion after purchasing from Apple online. Mountain Lion icon is now permanently 'paused' in the dock. The Purchase page has the download but no resume button. I have enter the code again but it cannot be redeemed again. I have signed in and out again from the tab at the top of the page.
I have spoken to Apple for two evenings now. Last attempt was to bypass the Mountain Lion and download Mavericks overnight but nothing downloaded.
I have checked the internet connection and all is well.
Any ideas how to progress... I have an appointment to take in to Apple on Monday...

Have you tried to resume the download using Launch Pad?  The icon should be in your Dock.
    If that doesn't help ...
Apps such as Little Snitch, Growl, and MacKeeper can prevent apps from downloading
Disable anti virus software if installed
Make sure the firewall is turned off in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
    Make sure Gatekeeper is enabled
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected.
If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.

  • I am trying to download Mountain Lion for almost 3 days now and the download gets stuck at 53.25mb. Apple support staff is giving me same block answer that it's because of heavy traffic and I don't buy that. Does anyone know how I can download it ?

I have been trying to download my copy of Mountain Lion for last 3 days and the download is stuck at 53.25mb. I tried all of the restart/ Cookies deletion that apple support staff recommended to no avail. Download starts from begining and once it's 53.25mb downloaded, the remaining time goes upto and beyond 650 days and counting.
Is there any guru, who can help me download Mountain Lion this year? Preferably in a days time !
    Cheers!

Doesn't strike me as a "high traffic" issue, if you pause the download can you open the /Applications/ folder on your Mac and see if the installer already present? If you can stop the download and delete the installer (because it is not finished), the try again?
If you've already done the above have you tried using Disk Utility First Aid from your Recovery HD?
Try to verify/repair the disk and see if that takes care of it. (Of course make sure you have a good, recent backup before trying this.)
If you're still having issues: re-install OS X from the Recovery HD, install all available software updates, try again.
