Can't re-install FCE

I updated to FCE HD from 2.0.2. The initial install went fine. I was able to use Live Type and Soundtrack fine. Then after making titles in Live Type I started getting a message on the icon and in the viewer after importing the title that said: Media Missing in Live Type file. I soon discovered that the problem only pertained to textures. I made sure my render background was enabled in project preferences and ensured that the media track was above the background divider. It still wouldn't come through. This is all happening on my MacBook. On my iMac everything works fine. So in these forums it was suggested that I render or export the title as a quicktime movie. I did so but it wouldn't give me the entire sequence, only have of it and then it would go black. I ensured that my in and out points were correct etc. Finally it was suggested that I reinstall the software. So I trashed all the software and am trying to re-install it. I get this message once I get to the point in the installer where I click "install"
"You cannot continue. There is nothing to install."
I am reinstalling my FCE 2.0.2 so I can then install the upgrade. I repaired disc permissions.
Any ideas?

Hi Daniel.
Did you uninstall everything as shown in the article below? It's not just the application icons! If you leave anything behind it could possibly cause problems.

When you use the upgrade there is no need to have FCE2 on your computer. You simply use the Upgrade Disc as a normal Full disc, the only difference being that it will ask you to input your FCE2 serial number.

I'm still having problems not being able to open my project on my 2.5 quad which created it. But it opens fine on one of my other computers. I've decided to reinstall FCE 3.5. Can I reinstall it without removing the 3.5 already installed? If not, what are all the items I need to remove first?

Thanks so much for your help. I have two hard drives, one with my tiger system on it which I use 99% of the time. The other drive have partitioned in two, one for data and the other (just a small partition) has my Leopard system on it. Just to make sure my leopard system wasn't somehow interfering and causing me trouble I changed all its permissions to no access. It didn't make any difference in how FCE performed, so I went back to change everything back to read and write access, but as soon as I close the info window and reopen it the permissions are all back to no access. I even restarted and it's volume didn't even mount. Is ther some way to set the permissions back. Could the problem be that I locked the volume which has leopard on it while I was booted in Tiger? Of course now I can't boot up in Leopard even if I wanted to. Very confused.

Re-installing FCE 3.5 does not work

Hi people,
After buying a new iMac (OS X 10.6.7) i asked the apple store to put applications from my previous iMac to this new 1. Including FCE 3.5 and the update to FCE 4.
Since FCE never worked correctly after this i decided to re-install FCE 3.5 first. But after installing (inclusive LiveType and Soundtrack) and getting the message "installation completed" i can not find FCE in the application folder. LiveType and Soundtrack are there but not FCE.
I have tried the sollution given here https://discussions.apple.com/message/8782008#8782008 but that only mend software update i think.
Does anyone know what might be the problem or where i can find the installed FCE apllication?

Final Cut Express HD (Version 3.5)
Apple Loops for Soundtrack
LiveType Media 1
LiveType Media 2
Installing them takes quite a while (approx 50 mts) and only the first time I tried to re-install i was asked for the Serial number. After removing everything and trying to re-re-install I'n not asked to give the serial number again. That made me wonder, is it still on my iMac? But i don't get a message that the program already exists so that makes me think it is gone completely indeed.
Can you still follow what i am trying to say? I appreciate you trying to help me and I want to give you as much information as i possibly can.

Lost registration no. and can't install FCE HD

When I try to install the software, I can't get beyond the pop-up for licensing/registration. Unfortunately, I've lost my packaging and don't know what to do about a registration no.
FYI, I bought the software from a seller on E-Bay. It was sold as new and the packaging looked fine (and the seller has a really good reputation).

I suspect it's more than a registration glitch. The registration pop-up doesn't even offer the option to register later. When I try to continue, it continues to pop up and I can't select a drive to install the software.
And no, I had not already registered the software with Apple. In fact, I can't find an "Installing FCE" guide in a DVD format.
Hmmm, (expensive) lesson learned. If an offer looks too good to be true, it probably is.

I have installed FCE on my macbook and on my desktop. Then I accidentally migrated FCE from the desktop to the macbook. Now each time I launch FCE on the macbook it asks for the product serial number. How can I stop this happening?

FCE launches anyway as the licence info had already been written to my hard drive when I first installed FCE. How can I stop it asking for the serial nmber every time I open FCE?

You need to uninstall FCE from you Macbook and then reinstall it.
If you are not familiar with the process, FCS Remover is an app that can uninstall FCE for you.

How do I install FCE-HD 3.5 on Lion?

When I try to install FCE-HD 3.5, I get a pop-up that says "can't load, PowerPC apps no longer supported". What gives?
I bought this product from Apple Store in November 2007. I have the product ID, the original packaging, etc. I had it installed once on my MacbookPro when I was running Tiger, and then Leopard. But the machine crashed last month and I had to send it to Apple for repairs. They loaded the new Lion OS for me at that time, and wiped everything else off the machine, as I had requested. Now, however, when I try to load FCE-HD 3.5, it won't let me do it!
I don't want to upgrade to 4.0 unless there is a way that Apple will allow me to do it without expense. I'd like to just use 3.5, since that's what I'm used to.
Please help, advise, about next steps as soon as possible!

This is something you probably don't want to hear ... but in a few words ... don't even try putting FCE 3.5 on Lion. You will only be frustrated in the process and will in all likelihood end up with an app that doesn't function properly.
FCE was discontinued last June and is not supported on Lion. The final version of FCE was 4.0.x and even that won't load on a Lion machine. In addition, FCE 3.5 is old enough that I wouldn't even recommend trying to run it on Show Leopard.
Admittedly FCE 3.5 is a universal app, but its installer is a PPC app and that's why it won't install on Lion. You may find some users reporting that they are running FCE 4 on Lion, but they are a relatively few lucky ones who got it running either because they originally had it on their Mac before they upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion; or they went through a tortuous install process to circumvent the installer. Even then, experience has not been uniformly smooth.

Newly installed FCE 3.5 will not open

I just installed FCE 3.5 on my iMac G5 computer. When I attempt to open FCE, it looks as it is loading and then automatically closes. I can open Soundtrack and LiveType. Please help!

The first panel of Disk Utility. Do you have any other software like audio software that talks to the system? If it's not that you should call Apple. There may have been a problem with the installer.

I am planning to buy the new apple notebook pro also with fce 4
i am currently have fce 3.5 on my say old notebook.
my question is : if i install fce 4 on my new macbook , can i still
use and install the extra livetype media 1 and 2 and soundtrack which
was included in 3.5 package?
if yes what will be the best way to install: first fce 4 and afterwards the extra livetype media + soundtrack or should i install 3.5 first and afterwards fce 4 ?

afterwards the full fce 4( i will not buy the upgrade version) ,without the livetype and soundtrack?

Cannot install FCE on G4

recently I own an Apple G4 , 800 MHz processor , 1.5 GB SDRAM , ATI Radeon 7500 ( 32 MB )
I have been trying to install FCE 3.5 but it seems to be impossible . when I reach the install menu I can install soundtrack and livetype , but when it comes to FCE , it skips installation .
who can help me ? to me it seems my G4 has the right specs .

there is no previous installation of FCE on the G4 ,it used to work with Avid . I have installed the program on my Macbook once before .
what I mean with 'skips'installation is that when I ( try to ) install the program ,on the installation screen it shows live type and soundtrack with the amount of MB's , and installing them is no problem . it also shows final cut express , but behind it the word 'skip' ( 'sla over' in Dutch ) is written , and it won't install ...

Installing FCE on 2nd computer

I am planning on installing FCE on our laptop (MBpro). This would be a second installation, as I am currently using it on my iMac. I would be using the same scratch drive on both computers. I would assume this would work out fine and is legal as long as I am only using one copy at a time.
So I have 2 questions.
1) Are there any pitfalls I need to be aware of?
2) If I start a project on one and want to move to the second computer is there an easy way to get the required files copied? I would have the clips and render files on the scratch disk and the project files I would copy over, any other files I would need?

fbcbootie, I know what you mean, but I can't keep up with my editing by just editing at home with the iMac. With the laptop I plan to at least back up my footage and do at least rough editing while we are traveling. Being retired is a tough life, but someone has to do it, so the younger generations can find work.

As Keith mentions Apple sells one as an optional extra.
There are others on the market as well.
My experience is to do some serious homework before buying any unit to make sure it is compatible with your specific Mac. Some users have been very disappointed.
I use an OWC (Other World Computing) bluray burner with several types of connections and it works fine.

Totally different to FCE and you need to forget most of what you learnt there to adapt to FCP X.
Most dramas occur learning FCP X because users try to think and use FCP X the the old way.
It took me some adjusting to get into the new methods and thinking and terms used.
Advice: Read the manual and unlearn FCE. Search the FCP X forum or ask a specific question, the info there is mounting.

I have sold all my old legacy FCP stuff and moved on to FCP X.
As a broad statement it makes it easier for someone who knows little about editing and the quirks of codecs to Import and Edit a Project.
That being said the underlying complexity of the app is very powerful.
Like all apps it's not perfect, the current version is 10.0.8 and I made the shift at 10.0.7 when it had matured to the extent I was personnaly happy to make the jump.

How many times can you clean install leopard on the same computer? Will the leopard dvd run out of installations and not let you install anymore?

Now that the funny comments have been made, I have a serious question and that why are you worry about reinstalling Leopard with an Erase & Install which is what I take that you mean when you say clean install. In actually fact there is no such thing in OS X as a clean install.
I am curious because in all the years I have used OS X, I have yet to do an Erase & Install yet.
I know with Windows that they suggest reformatting and reinstalling at the drop of a hat but that isn't true with OS X.

Generate the error message again. While the error message box is open, hold down the Alt key and hit the PrtSc key. Paste the screenshot into an image file (using a program like Paint), and save the file.

All drum loops in LE 8 are greyed out and Apple loops utility 'can't be installed'

I installed Logic Express 8 and have loads of loops missing, especially the drum loops.
Even the Apple loops utility is giving me problems. It looks like the Apple loops utility was installed (because I have the icon for it now), but everything inside that utility is greyed out. When I try to re-install it, i get the error message 'Apple Loops Utility can’t be installed on this computer. The specified message could not be found for the index 0.'
I have a new MAC Mini OS X 10.6.7
Help would be appreciated.
UPDATE: I have looked through other related discussions here but could not find the naswer.
I also just checked in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops to see if the files are there and of course they are not.
In fact, funnily enough, there are 0 files in the apple loops (although I do have plenty of loops that do play in LE8, just not the drum loops), which is strange. Where are all the files?????
I also found the following interesting point in the discussions here:
'The standard installation doesn't install all the loops. You'll have to do a custom installation and check the GB extras.'
The problem is that I am never given any option to do a custom installation when I install. It only offers the normal installation mode.

1. On the newer Macs, iLife 11 or so, only a part of the loops is being installed, and the other part must be downloaded via software update. GB will tell you so if you select a greyed out loop.
2. Loops should all be in "(your HD)/library/audio/apple loops/apple", not in the user library.
3. If you find the loops are installed there but aren't shown in LE or in GB, you might want to re-index the loops.
4. If loops are still missing after re-indexing, drag the loops folder straight above your loop browser and drop them there - this should add the missing loops.
