Can't re install Leopard in iMac 20"

Well let me explain...
I tried to install a Snow Leopard, but it fails because was my 6th imac in the family bundle, well the imac turned off at the 9 min to finish the installation. I tried re instal a leopard but i can't do it, cuz the system saids "The software can not install in this computer".
I'm trying to install from a macbook (13" black case) disk, because i can't find the iMac's cd
Well I deleted the HD whit the disk utility, and still display the error.
When I turn on the iMac display a folder with a "?" (question signal)
Any one knows how i can fix it? i need reinstall the MacOs Leopard..... PLEASE I REALLY DO IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE....

The computer would have to have absolutely identical hardware and have been manufactured at the same time. Discs for a 20" iMac from 2009 will not work with a 20" iMac from 2007 and vice versa.
You might get those discs to work, but you'd be breaking the EULA, I believe.

How many times can you clean install leopard on the same computer? Will the leopard dvd run out of installations and not let you install anymore?

    Hi colman Prez;
Now that the funny comments have been made, I have a serious question and that why are you worry about reinstalling Leopard with an Erase & Install which is what I take that you mean when you say clean install. In actually fact there is no such thing in OS X as a clean install.
I am curious because in all the years I have used OS X, I have yet to do an Erase & Install yet.
I know with Windows that they suggest reformatting and reinstalling at the drop of a hat but that isn't true with OS X.

  • HT1338 Why can't I install Leopard for PowerPC on my old Mac Mini?

Why can't I install Leopard for PowerPC on my old Mac Mini? The massage "This can not be installed on this computer" appears.

My thoughts are that your difficulties could be one of these:
your non-retail DVD may only work on a very limited range of Mac minis
the installer may not like your new RAM
the installer may not like the language change especially if the disk has not been erased first
I have seen a little evidence for 3 in the code of other Leopard install DVDs - they appear to have less stringent language checks for erased volumes. Whilst I have never modified model specific installers I have modified retail installers to ignore speed and RAM checks.
    My advice:
back up your whole mini hard disk to an external disk - see notes
erase the hard disk and partition into 2 volumes with Leopard install DVD
try to install Leopard on one volume
put original OS on the other volume
    Notes:
Carbon Copy Cloner can be used to backup the whole hard disk
ensure the mini can be booted from the external disk before you erase the internal disk

  • How to install leopard on iMac g5 questions?

    hello...
i am trying to install leopard on my imac g5. I tried using a USB hard drive to use it with but people in this forum said that i couldnt...
my iMac's cd drive does not let me use my Leopard install disk.. it ejects it everytime..
Question.. How can i install Leopard on this iMac??
Can i some how use the USB HD to install it onto my main HD??
    thanks..

You may find a better answer on the "G5" forum...but, I had no problem installing Leopard on my son-in-law's 2005 G5, 20" iMac. I don't understand why it won't load from the built in disk drive since this is the way I installed it.
Are you sure that the disk you're using in the basic Leopard OS? It should work.
Hopefully you'll solve your problem in the "G5" forum.

  • Installing leopard on imac G4

I hope someone can help me here, I'm having real difficulty installing leopard on my G4 imac, it meets all the necessary requirements and I have enough free space to install.
When the restart is needed the disk seems to be sluggishly turning with a white screen and the apple logo. This is all that happens, I can get the disk out of the mac eventually but no install.
I've done a disk utility and it states that the disk needs repairing, although when I do a disk utility on my girlfriends imac it stated that the disk seems fine.
We do have different DVD drives I have a SONY DVD RW DW-U10A (Firmware Revision: A13b) and she has a HL-DT-ST RW/DVDE GCC-4480B.
I have searched for a firmware update but can only find one for a PC.
    Any suggestions please?

Hi unfortunately my server cannot connect to your website, therefore I can't confirm if it looks like the image posted.
But it is a retail version and it does say Upgrade DVD on the disk.
You can see an image of the retail disk & the box at Apple Store (U.S.) - Mac OS X v10.5.4 Leopard.
As has already been noted in this thread, an "Upgrade DVD" is not the retail version. It will not work with most Macs, nor was it ever intended to do so.

  • 2007 MBP, couldn't install Lion, now can't re-install Leopard

I have a MBP from late 2007. It came with Leopard installed on it. I recently tried to upgrade to Lion, but received the message "Lion can't be installed on this computer". Now I can't reinstall Leopard. When I try to boot, it will always select the Lion partition, but I can't erase/unmount the Lion partition. Now, when I try to boot from the Leopard DVD, it also won't work.
How can I get rid of all remnants of Lion on my computer and install leopard, from the CD?
    Thanks!

Your 2007 MBP would have to been updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to install Lion. Now that you're in a mess, boot from your Leopard installer disk and Erase the disk and then install Leopard.

  • After installing Leopard, my iMac starts up on its own at 10PM

    Hello.
I just installed Leopard on my iMac last night, and everything seemed to be ok - except for the long lasting blue screen after starting up, which I will take care of soon. However, after I shut it down, the machine started up on its own at 10 PM. I shut it down. Today, when I got home at 10:13 PM, it was on again, without anybody touching it. It must have started up at 10, because the screen was not sleeping. I checked the System Preferences to see if any start up were scheduled, but no. Any insights on what might be going on? Could I have done anything wrong upon installation?
Thank you for your time and help!
    Miss_B

I've got to ask this question because in all of the years I have used Apples and Macs, I didn't know you could schedule a start up.
Where in System Preferences do you do that? I didn't see an icon for start ups other than startup disk and didn't find anything there.

  • How can I re-installed LEOPARD?

Hello.. my friend installed LEOPARD upgrade today. Everything went OK, then he do the Softwware update and the re-start and when it went up, his MacBook Pro can't take his password. Some message with FILEVAULT problem came up.
He can re-installed Leopard again and save his data?

None of the instructions usually given for downgrading seems to mention the fact that you will lose some data in built-in applications, including at least Mail. When you installed Lion, your Mail database was converted from the format used by Snow Leopard's Mail to that used by Lion's Mail. There is no way to reverse that conversion. Therefore, you will lose your entire Mail database. If your messages are all stored on a remote server, that may not be an insurmountable problem, but otherwise you'll have to restore from the last backup you made before the upgrade, and then you'll still lose all changes to the database made since that time.
Another fact not often mentioned is that downgrading is usually the worst possible solution to a problem with Lion. But that's the answer to a question you didn't ask.

  • Why can't I install Leopard on my G5 iMac?

I have a G5 PPC iMac running Tiger and I've just bought an Intel iMac running Leopard. I'd like to bring the old PPC machine up to Leopard but, when I try to install it, I get a message saying that "this software cannot run on this machine".
Why does this happen? Are the disks Intel specific? If so, what are my upgrade options?
    Intestinal

Hi Admiral Duck: Yes indeed, the disk that ships with a new computer are machine specific. To upgrade you will need a retail version of Leopard.

Computer locks up, so I want to reinstall the OS. I had upgraded to Snow Leopard.
Tried to do an archive and install from the DVD that came with the computer, but that failed.
Tried to do an erase and install, but the install stops somewhere near the end, 13 minutes to go. Tried several times, same result.
Can't reboot from the install disk, it just ejects the disk and I get the flashing question mark.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I think my hard drive is toast.  When I boot in single user mode, I get the following text:
CSRHID Transition Driver: start booting in single user... will wait for window server
Then the following text appears, repeating itself over and over, except that the numbers (indicated by "xxxxxxx")

Does this indicate a bad hard drive?

  • Can Lion be installed on an iMac with a Dual Core processor?

I have an older iMac, model iMac4,1 with an Intel 2.0 GHz Core Duo Processor, 2 GBytes of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.  It is currently running Mac OS X version 10.6.8 and works very well.
I've seen conflicting information about the system requirements for upgrading to Lion.  One spec says it must be a Core 2 Duo Processor.   I want to see if I'm asking for trouble to try the upgrade.  System is fully backed up with Time Machine.

Thanks Allan,  for the quick and short answer.  I've been reading other posts (should have done that first) and there are good reasons why it won't work.  Best one is that the Core Duo is a 32 bit processor while the later ones are all 64 bit processors.  Some have actually upgraded to the Core 2 Duo, but have not been successful in installing Lion on the internal drive.
I have a MacBook Pro running Lion and that is good for now.  May try to sell my iMac, although it is a very good computer!

  • Can't re-install Leopard(10.5) from external DVD-drive...

I'm trying to wipe my hard drive and re-install OS 10.5.5 from the start up DVD's apple sent me. The internal drive is broken and will not accept discs so I had to buy an external USB DVD drive. When I insert the disc and start the install process the computer restarts and stops doing anything when it gets to the gray Apple screen(there is a spinning dial just under the apple sign). The computer stays there till I turn the computer off.
Why can't I re-install? I've tried holding the option key on start up but all that comes up is the hard drive icon, when I click on it it goes right to the desktop.
Is this caused by the External drive?
Thanks for any help you can give!

Check this link and see if your Mac fits the requirements (most information can be found in Apple Menu>About this Mac)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If it's the Macbook you have listed in your signature it will run Snow Leo just fine.
Or just check to see if it has these things:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation

  • Can I just install Leopard over Tiger?

I have an OS 10.4 Tiger MacBook Pro and I'm thinking about upgrading it to Leopard. What happens when you do that? Does the installer wipe out everything on your HD giving you a blank system where you have to reinstall all your apps and so on, or does it sort of upgrade the infrastructure, leaving your apps and files in place?
I haven't run into too many instances where I couldn't run something because I don't have the latest OS, but there have been a few. Would I be better off waiting a while and just buying a new machine when the time comes?
I have a lot of stuff like Photoshop and music software. I also have various development tools like XCode and Eclipse. I also have drivers for stuff like my scanner and digital camera and whatnot.
Thanks for any info on this topic.
    Thanks!

Absolutely! I did it that way on both my MBPs with perfect success.
Just be sure to backup Tiger onto an external drive for several reasons:
    1 Stuff happens
2 You may want to keep some old Tiger stuff, and if you use a cloner for the backup, you can always boot into it and use it.
On each of my two MBPs, I created a small partition for Tiger and cloned Tiger onto it. I use the larger partition for my TM backups.
I have been using both MBPs running Leopard since a short time after Leopard was released and have not experienced any of the issues others have had. Also both my systems are up-to-date with the exception of the latest Safari.

  • Can't install Leopard 10.5.6 onto Power Mac G5 with Mac OS 10.2.7

I have a Power Mac G5 with Mac OS 10.2.7 and can't seem to install Leopard 10.5.6. Every time i try to install it it either says that it can not validate the contents of the Base System package or could not validate the contents of the Xll User package. If i could get suggestions on what i can try to install Leopard on to my mac G5.

Make sure it is a retail disc, as indicated here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2275 Make sure you understand the difference between Archive and Install and Upgrade and install here, and erase and install: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2209 Make sure your data is backed up before you proceed: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1992 Decide if you need access to Classic before you proceed, as it is gone with 10.5.

    Welcome to the Apple forum.
The answer is simple - try it - you don't have anything to lose.
Yes, the minimum is said to be 9GB and that does not include anything for programs or anything.
I suspect the real minimum is closer to 10 or 11.
Let us know how it goes.
