Can't re-install Mac OS X.

Hey my Macbook pro 15" doesn't have an operating system on it because my Leopard disc got scratched and messed up on install so I need to re-re-install Leopard! So I insert the disc restart the computer hold "C" then it takes a minute and then it flashes a black screen and then I hear chimes again and it seems as it restarted or something.
Please help!

HI,
You can order a new disc ...
If you no longer have your install DVD, you may be able to obtain it from Apple Customer Relations - 1-800-767-2775.
You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those -
http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html
You will need the above in order to run the Repair Disk option.
Try booting while holding down the Option key which should prompt the Startup Manager window.
You could try booting in Safe Mode

If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

  • Can't re-install Mac OS X Lion

I am not able to start my Macbook Air – I get the grey screen and revolving circle. So …
I am trying to re-install Mac OS X Lion via the Command-R utility on start up.
I am asked for my Apple ID and on entering it I get the message: “This Apple ID has not yet been used with App Store. Please review your account information”
I then press Review and nothing happens.
I have logged into my Apple ID on another comuter and have tried to update bits of information so that perhaps it can believe that it's active but to no avail.
(I would use my Time Machine to restore but I am currently abroad and don't have my Time Machine backup drive)
    Please advise.

  • Can I buy // install MAC OS X TIGER on a PC?

I was wondering if it was possible to buy a version of MAC OS X for intel based laptops. I know I can buy a MAC with MAC OS installed on it but I don't have $2000 to spend on a computer that I already have, I just want the operating system.
    Thank you.

MiniMac is cheap but I dont really need a desktop(or LilBox) computer, I just want a laptop... But I think Imma buy the MacBook Pro and if I don't like it I'll just sell it on eBay. Tired of windows! Always something wrong with it!!!
I searched on google for OS X intel, I've seen people are able to install it on very specific hardware and the Restore DVD that comes with the MacBook... But with all the things they have to do to install it, i doubt it's still 100% mac and it seems it takes hours to install it completly and then you need patched or third party drivers so it's really not worth it... hehe
Thx for the info Wade Peeler.
Well, Well I have to go check where I can buy this, and for how much! so see ya people! Thanks for your help ^.^

  • Why can't I install Mac app store

Hi I want to install the Mac App Store to have the chance to Install OS X Lion. But eveytime I'm trying to go to the App Store it brings me back to the overall of Mountain Lion OS. Can you help me guys? Thank you!

I think that you have to be running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard (or some version of Snow Leopard at minimum) in order to have the Mac App Store. Your tagline says that you are running 10.5.8 Leopard.

  • Can't archive & install mac mini

Last night the Mac Mini at my mother's place was working fine. This morning, it will only get as far as the grey screen and cursor. I cannot do a safe boot. It is running 10.4.11. It's a 1.25 GHz, with 1GB RAM.
The hardware tests are fine. I repaired permissions.
When I tried doing disc repair, I encountered problems:
    Overlapped extent allocation (numerous files)
    Volume bit map needs repair
    Invalid volume free block count
The volume needs to be repaired.
Then, the repair failed. Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit.
I am unable to do an archive and reinstall. Is there any way I can avoid wiping the disk?
    Thanks,
    Nicky

    Hi Nicky
Sounds like a serious problem with the hard drive has developed? You do have options. What you could try is using target disk mode. If you have another mac with space to spare you could try this and quickly backup whatever data you can't do without. You should be able thereafter to boot from the installer disk, format the drive (hopefully) and reinstall.
You could forego the above try using DiskWarrior instead:
    http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html
It's probably the premier drive/directory repair utility available for the Mac platform? Although it's always a good idea to use as many as you can. You may find after trying everything you can the drive may still cause a problem. In which case a replacement drive will have to serve. Luckily for you they are not expensive. Any competent Apple Repair Specialist or appropriate dealer should be able to tackle this for you.

  • Can I install Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6?

    Hi Leet ...
If you have an OS X Leopard install disk of any type,
That not fully correct ... to install OS X Leopard yuo will need full retail DVD or CD. These are the Black ones with a Big X on it.

  • Can i install mac osx back again after installing windows 7 on my mac book a1181?

i have apple mac book a1181 white, but i had problem logging on as it was secured by a password, and i allready lost my recovery dvd, so i installed windows 7 on my mac book a1181 by deleting its partition from GTP to NTFS but i experienced problems after installing windows 7 as sound was not comming as i could not find sound drivers for macintosh, so now i plan again to restore my apple macbook a1181 back by reinstalling mac osx 10.5.8, how can i again install mac osx on my notebook and is it possible to re-install mac on my notebook? please give me some help.

Insert your OS X install disc and restart holding the C key, hold it down until you see the Apple logo and spinning gear. Choose your language and at the next screen from the top menu bar select Utilities-Disk Utility. Select your internal hard drive, click on the Partition tab and select 1 partition. Click on the Options button and select GUID partition scheme. Click OK. Choose to format the drive as Mac OS Extended Journaled. When Disk Utility is done and your drive is properly partitioned and formatted quit DU and go back to the installer screen and reinstall OS X. When you're up and running run software update a couple times to get everything up to date as far as you can with 10.5.8. Then consider upgrading to OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard for $19.99 here http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

Will installing Mac OS X onto an external hard drive erase or mess with in any way files that are already on the external hard drive?

Not unless an Erase & Install is performed.

  • How to re-install Mac OS X?

    Hi,
I am trying to re-install Mac OS X, but when it tells me to select a destination, no destination appears.
How can I re-install Mac OS X in this case?

Leopard is a paid upgrade, and originally cost about $130. It is only available on DVD.
It will cost you more than that to get a copy now, as the number of retail copies out there is dwindling.
    The part nos. for Leopard retail discs were;
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
    MB021Z/A , MC094Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)
    MB022Z/A , MC095Z/A Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (5-user family pack)
Prices on Amazon start at around $150 last time I looked.
On the other hand if your computer meets the specifications, Snow Leopard is only $30 or less from the online Apple Store (no longer available in the high st stores).

My PowerMac has a Pioneer DVR-104.
    So, what's wrong?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Do you have at least 512 MB RAM?
I wonder if OS9 does not "understand" the Leopard install program.
I would suggest backing up everything on the system you want to keep and then reboot with the Leopard DVD in the drive and hold down the "C" key. You should be able to do an install that way. I would highly recommend an erase and install. On the page after the Language screen, at the bottom, select Options and then select Erase and Install.

can i install Mac OS on in Windows 7? for dual-boot purpose

But you can install Windows on a Mac via Bootcamp for dual boot.
For the purposes of Windows®, a Mac is just a generic piece of PC hardware, so installing on to it is permitted by Microsoft's EULA.  On the other hand, Apple have explicitly stated in the EULA for OS X "Mountain Lion" that it should only be installed and run on Apple-branded hardware.  Section 2, Paragraph B, Sub-section 1:
you are granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license […] to download, install, use and run for personal, non-commercial use, one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer…
    (emphasis mine)
    Section 2, Paragraph H:
The grants set forth in this License do not permit you to, and you agree not to, install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-branded computer, or to enable others to do so.
Also, discussion of how to run OS X on non-Apple branded hardware is against these forums' Use Agreement, Section 2 Paragraph 8, including Sub-section 1:
    Keep within the Law

  • Can't boot into Mac OS after Windows install via Bootcamp

    Hello.
Last night I installed Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro early 2011 via Bootcamp. After some major complications I was able to finally install Windows 7 and boot into it. Now I can't boot back into my "Macintosh HD" partition, it shows a no entry sign.
Hard Disk : 320GB Internal Sata
Partitions : 3 -> Mac, Bootcamp and 10.8 Recovery Partition
The good part is that I can still access the Mac OS partition in Windows and Windows is working perfectly fine. As a matter of fact right now I'm on the bootcamped windows.
I have a full time machine backup but still I am looking for a way to solve this without formatting the HDD.
    Things I have tried:
    1. Resetting NVRAM and PRAM
    2. Booting into 10.8 recovery partition and running DU.
    SMART Status : Verified
"Macintosh HD" grayed and Not Mounted
    Successful Verify Permissions (Twice)
Is there a way to solve this? Though the Mountain Lion partition shows when I press the Alt/option key on startup but I can't somehow boot into it.
    Thanks

Your problem is OS X is refusing to boot.
There is still a bootable volume on the Macintosh HD partition, it's just not working.
You can #8 Reinstall Just OS X while command r booted from the Recovery partition, as long as you don't use Disk Utility to erase the Macintosh HD partition, your files and programs remain.
Hook the computer via Ethernet cable to a router (or modem, power reset required) with a fast relaible internet connection, you will need your AppleID and password to reinstall OS X.

  • Late 2008 macbook 13" prompts mac OS can not be installed on this computer after booting from disc as l get the folder with the question mark screen. New HDD or ?

From the little research l have done, l have been convinced l may be having a dead hard drive though after having tried all the other troubleshooting tips found here, when trying to boot l get the grey screen and folder with the question mark suggesting it can not find the files neccessary to boot hence l tried booting with the disc and the message l get is that mac OS X can not be installed on this computer, though after doing the hardware check etc they all say okay. I've even tried erasing the drive and trying to instal the OS afresh with no luck. Any ideas or l must just get a new hard drive?

Pretty sure BGreg hit the nail on the head. If your hard drive was failing, you would still be able to at least attempt an install, provided your ard drive was mounting. You usually get that message when the disk is incompatible with the computer. If it is the proper disk, you might try erasing the disk (provided your info is backed up) using Disk Utility (under Utilities in the menubar) and choose the Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) format.
