Can't re-install pse 4.0

I had loaded it onto an external drive but had problems with my photos and instead of just deleting the pix, i deleted everything. When I went to re-install the program off of the cd, it gets about 1/2 to 2/3 through the install and stops. A message window appears that tells me to "insert thedisc and click OK. Well, when i do that, nothing happens. The message window stays there no matter how many times you click 'ok'. I then have to click cancel in the same window and everything just rolls back to square 1. Any ideas or solutions? Thanx, OJ

Although not designed for this issue specificity, you could try system restore to an earlier date.
Unless you have a new computer.

  • Can I re-install PSE 6.0 without my disc? I have serial number

    Firstly, I'm aware that this software is incredibly outdated but it worked absolutely fine for my needs and I can't afford to buy a new program right now. I originally got the software from a bundle when I bought my Wacom tablet. There was a disc in the box but I have lost it. I have spent hours searching for it but I can't find it anywhere. I recently put in a new hard drive and installed a copy of Windows 8 that a friend gave me - as a result, PSE 6.0 was no longer installed on my computer. As I said, I have no disc but I DO have the serial number. Is there anywhere I can go to re-install the program? I don't believe I registered it but I'm not sure

    that's not available via adobe.  you can update to pse 12 via adobe or purchase pse 6 from another vendor.

    If you made a full catalog backup using the organizer's backup command, and you did it to a removable drive, yes, you can restore it to the mac. A backup made on discs will not work, though.

    I cannot answer regarding compatibility, but there is no download available for PSE6 if you would need one for this.  You might be able to copy the installation files from a disk to some other removable media that the machine accepts.  Upgrading to PSE7 would not be possible mainly because Adobe does not sell older versions of their software.

  • Installed PSE 8 but can't open catalog :-(

    I've installed PSE 8, upgrading from PSE 6.  When I open the catalog it tells me that there is an earlier version catalog and would I like to make it compatible with PSE 8, to which I answer yes, I gave it a new name and clicked ok.  It thinks for a long time and then I get a "not responding" message.  I can't get into the organizer to do the recommendation in the book to convert the catalog.  Any help greatly appreciated!

    Yes, it seems like a problem with the main catalog.  I haven't seen a failed conversion before that didn't write a conversion log.  So there aren't many clues to go on.  I have just one more suggestion -- run the utility psedbtool on your PSE 6 catalog:

    Because you have both PSE 6 and 8 installed, you'll have to run it specially:
    1. Start PSE 6 and do Help > System Info to find the folder path of your PSE 6 catalog folder.
    2. Start a command prompt.
    3. Type these two commands:
    cd c:\psedbtool
    .\psedbtool -printVolumeTable > output.log
    4. Copy and paste the contents of c:\psedbtool\output.log here.

    Well, that depends on which version you mean. You can install PSE 6 through 11 just fine. For PSE 12 the editor works but not the organizer, and PSE 13 requires at least 10.8.

    Can you please explain at what instance is the installer failing?? Whether it starts the installation progress? Whether it goes through the stage of installing Elements Organizer or Elements STI or before even reaching these stages??

    yes, there should be no problem using pse 9 and pse 11 on the same computer.

    You can't install them separately, but it is easy to place unique shortcuts on the desktop for organizer and for editor.
    In Organizer, go to Edit>Preferences>Auto Analyzer options and uncheck analyzer and people recognition if you don't use them - may improve resource utilization.

    Yes, you are allowed two installations.  If a download, they need to be the same operating system (either Windows or Mac).  If from the disc, then it doesn't matter which operating system.
