Can't re-install Safari

Hello,
I use Panther 10.3.9 and have 640 RAM.
I just had problems with the computer (logic board) and fixed them.
But Safari keeps crashing. I wanted to re-install it, but couldn't find any download except for the update, 1.3.1, which is what I'm using to post this message.
I downloaded the update (since I couldn't find the program) and I'm getting a nifty message:
! Safari update cannot be installed in this System
So I imagine it won't let me re-install.
I have several important bookmarks and don't want to lose them by trashing Safari to the bin.
Anyways, I downloaded Flash version 8, thinking that would solve my crashing problems. But it didn't.
I have also tried to troubleshoot by clicking on the disable plug-ins and other issues, but the disable plug ins will not let me even get to this page.
So I wonder why I'm getting the message that v.1.3.1 cannot be installed in this System. My Apple Profiler tells me I do have system 10.3.9
and according to Apple's website, this version IS for Panther.
Any suggestions?

Hello Hawaiian-Starman,
Thank you so much for your reply. After I posted this message, my browser crashed and my Mac only re-booted from Darwin. ;(
Looks like Safari was not the problem.
I have erased and re-installed the system and all my applications and I think I am now a Happy Camper!
The technician who helped me re-configure this complicated set up for the wireless router taught me the trick with the receipts - What a coincidence!
But she did tell me to trash the application before trying installation of any receipt.
Thank you!! I really appreciate your help, it would have helped enormously, except I did have a corrupted system.
All the best Surfing in 2006!
Jackie

I found that my Adobe flash player (version 10) is causing my computer to hang. I know this because when I disable it, it dosnt hang.

I have tried to uninstall Safari (put in trash) and try to re-install (safari 4 tiger - I have a MAC OS 10.5.2) it but I am getting a message saying "You cannot install Safari on this volume. This update requires Mac OS X 10.4.11." NOw I don't know how to re-install for my mac!?
How can i fix this issue? I need to go to these website for work purposes and its very annoying that this problem wont allow me to go to these sites (www.myspace.com, www.beatport.com)
    Please help!

You seem to have made a number of fundamental errors.
I have tried to uninstall Safari (put in trash) and try to re-install (safari 4 tiger - I have a MAC OS 10.5.2) it but I am getting a message saying "You cannot install Safari on this volume. This update requires Mac OS X 10.4.11."
10.5.2 is Leopard, but you need to update to 10.5.7 to run Safari 4.
You seem to have downloaded the Tiger version of Safari 4, instead of the correct Leopard version.
I have tried to uninstall Safari (put in trash)
Don't do that - Safari is integrated with the operating system and other applications rely on some of its components.
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
It is suggested that you first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

  • Can I just install Safari

    Can I just install Safari

    As opposed to...?
Safari is integrated in OS X so you already have it, unless it became deleted as a result of some corruption. In that case reinstalling OS X will be required, and likely more extensive work than that due to the corruption.
It's not clear what you would like to do.

  • Can't properly install Safari

I have downloaded Safari update for Leopard four times and every time I install it, it shows up nowhere on my computer. NO ICON appears anywhere. I do a search for safari and I only get the update file showing: NO Safari folder, and NO Safari icon, ANYWHERE. I find this very strange. I redownloaded the browser (Safari31UpdLeo.dmg) twice, I kept reinstalling and never could I get any evidence that the browser was on my computer after "successfully installing" application as it said I had done everytime I had installed it. Very Strange. What is going on here?

    Hi:
Safari is not offered as an update in Software Update. There is no Safari.app in Applications folder. I found nothing in Receipts folder related to Safari. Now, when I was having trouble with getting the installation to appear, I did throw the Safari31UpdLeo.pkg into my applications folder thinking it would help for the installation to appear there or somewhere. Of course I knew that would do nothing. But that is where the Safari31UpdLeo.pkg file is right now - in my Applications Folder. But again, there are simply no Safari Icons or Safari Folders anywhere on my computer. The first time I installed the new version I had 3.0 Safari on my computer. After I installed it I went to throw out the older 3.0 Safari. But I noticed that there was only ONE Safari Icon in Apps folder and it was the 3.0 version. Where was the 3.1 version I thought. I found it in a Pervious Systems type of file which is like a duplicate file from when I reinstalled my system a couple months ago because of another issue (with my dock) That was a long time ago and I had already long gutted, gotten everything important out of that Previous Systems or Previous OSX file, whatever it was named. But anyway, I did in fact fine the 3.1 Safari Icon in the Previous System folder. Fine. I dragged it out and clicked on it (after I had already thrown out the 3.0 Safari application - and the darned 3.1 Icon opened up as 3.1. That was odd I thought. So I decided to finish gutting anything out of the Previous System and Previous OS X folder from the inplace reinstall or whatever that was called and I also just trashed all Safari Folders and Icons in order to start out fresh when I installed the Safari. So, with the ensuing and unsuccessful Safari downloads and installs, I was starting from scratch with no Safari on my system. I didn't think that should matter. But now I can't get any Safari to show after I download and install........ Thanks

  • Why can I not install safari

What has happened to safari? Macbook pro 10.10.  After installing antivirus, I can only get and use firefox.

I use DiskWarrior, Drive Genius, Onyx, Cocktail and BatChmod and have for years and while most if not all of what they do can be done from the terminal these save time and give me an interface thats easier for me to work with. These are some of the many legitimate Mac utilities but not the only ones. There are really just a handful of bad ones, MacKeeper happens to be the most controversial of them and on these forms I have not seen anyone defending it, but I have read supposed experts who claim it's legit on Mac websites from time to time.
and a fool is someone who takes nothing from the experience.

  • How can I un-install Safari 6.1?

    Hey
I am on Mac 10.7.5. I just updated to the new Safari and can't stand it. Takes longer to do anything. I tried going to Time Machine to go back, but it wouldn't let me. It said something about being unable to modify Safari. Any ideas for a guy who is NOT real tech savvy?

Thanks for your answer. There were in the past deinstaller from Apple available to erase the pre-release and reinstall the latest normal Safari. When there is not such a way for me I will in the future not install any pre-release software. The work to go back this way is too time-consuming.

  • Why Can't I Install Safari 3

I've tried downloading the new Safari 3.02 Beta, which seems to go just fine. However, when I try to install the software the file won't mount on the desktop.
I've turned off my firewall and my virus protection software, but nothing seems to help. I've even tried mounting the image manually using DiskImageMounter.app. After a relatively long pause (about 2 minutes) I get an error that reads "The following disk images failed to mount: Safari302Beta.dmg." It says the reason is "Device not configured."
Can someone shed some light on a possible cause?

My Safari is no longer working with many sites.  However Chrome and Firefox work fine.  I would like to re-install Safari in an effort to clear up the problem I can not resolve.

    1. From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
    2. Select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
    and confirm. Test.
    3. If the above steps don't resolve the problem, please describe it in more detail.

  • I installed safari 8.0.1 and now my computer is slow and will not open some pages  can i uninstall

I installed safari 8.0.1 and now my mac is really really slow and will not open some pages. Can I uninstall?

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Photos, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Ever since I installed Safari 5.1 I can no longer access the pdf files on my website. I keep on getting an error with Webkit2webprocess.exe telling me that LogTransport2.dill was not found. Please help..

Ever since I installed Safari 5.1 on my PC (XP) I can no longer access the pdf files on my website. I have no problems with Chrome and  Firefox. I keep on getting a message from WebKit2WebProcess.exe that the LogTransport2.dill was not found. (I HATE PCs...) I tried reinstalling Acrobat 9. I tried reinstalling Safari. I even tried an older version of Safari. Nothing Helped.  Others have tried it on their machine, and it worked fine. But I do not know what is the matter with mine. I suspect the root cause is the missing LogTransport2.dill file. But I do not know how to go about getting it.  Your help is truly appreciated. My website is http://www.hlmartworks.com.

I have also found the article that provides 3 solutions but none of the solutions worked.

  • Can I install Safari 1.2 on OS X 10.3?

I am using a G4 PowerBook3,5 with OS X 10.3 and got the unhelpful message "Unable to install Safari 1.2 on this computer".
    There was no other explanation.
According to the Safari download page, I should be able to install 1.2.
    Any ideas?
    Jolyon

Thanks for replying, sorry about the delay.
The operating system is just 10.3, no extra suffixes.
The version of Safari I am using is 1.1 and I am having some problems with some javascript on some web-sites, mostly with drop-down menus. This is not a life and death situation, merely a nuisance.
I think I will update the operating system and see if that helps. How far can I safely update the OS on this machine, which is now a few years old?
    Jolyon
    Hi Jolyon,
Technically yes, you should be able to. What
particular version of OS X are you running? 10.3.1,
10.3.2, etc? You can check via the Apple icon in the
top left of the screen -> About this Mac.
If you installed a later version of Safari onto your
machine at some point in the past, you will have some
more recent WebKit files installed (these files
contain the code that draws the webpage for Safari
and Mail.app) and the installer checks to see the
version of these too. If they are more recent than
the installer then it won't procede.
Before going any further, can you clarify if you
already have another version of Safari installed or
not, and why are you trying to install version 1.2?
If we know the full picture we'll be able to offer
    more specific help.

  • Stuck in a limbo: can't install Safari or Lion/Mountain Lion, can't access App Store

If someone would take up this challenge and attempt to solve it with me, I would appreciate it! I have troubleshooted for 2 days now to no avail.
    This is what happened:
    1) I accidentally installed Safari 6.0, even if I have Lion 10.7. which doesn't run the new version
    2) This disabled my use of Safari and my access to App Store
    3) With a combination of AppDelete + Pacifist I tried deleting all Safari files, and re-installing old Safari 5.4 from scratch.
I rebooted, repaired permissions and did a disk check.
    4) Rebooted again, tried to open the newly installed Safari, but it gives an error:
"Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X."
    5) At this point I thought to revert back to a previous point in Time Machine. Unfortunately all the points in Time Machine somehow showed Safari 6.0 (even a month-old points), so reverting back to an old point didn't help.
    6) I try logging into AppStore to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but I can't do that, since it needs Safari to run and I don't have a Safari anymore!
    7) Now I tried re-installing Lion from restart + cmd+R, and it asked for Apple ID to start the installation.
--> At this point I am getting desperate, as this computer was purchased second-hand, so I don't have the Apple ID used to install Lion!
    8) I try searching for Apple's official support, but obviously my warranty has expired, besides it's based in another country so they can only call cellphones from that country!
So I cannot enter App Store; reinstall Safari; reinstall Lion; or upgrade to Mountain Lion. I have no access to Apple official support. I currently work in a developing country with limited access to any MAC support.
I don't know what to try anymore!
    - How can I enter App Store without Safari?
    - How can I reinstall Lion without the original Apple ID?
    - How can I upgrade to Mountain Lion without App Store?
    I'm STUCK! Please help!!

    Anyone?
I finally managed to download the newest combo update and installed it successfully!
However Safari still doesn't open. It keeps saying the following:
Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
I also finally got access to App Store: but the download of Mountain Lion doesn't complete, because it seems to need Safari.
So I'm still stuck with the two issues:
    i) Safari doesn't work, and I can't get it to work unless I can reinstall/upgrade the OS.
ii) I can't upgrade the OS without Safari!
--- unless someone knows a way to install Lion/Mountain Lion _without_ Safari??
    Thanks for all your help!
