Hi Mark,
sorry to hear of such bad luck.
Check with Disk Utility (Top Menu - Utilities) while booted from the OSX DVD if your HD is set to the GUID partition table.
If not change it to that for OSX installation.
Good Luck

  • Can I re install logic after I purchased it  from the app store?

can I re install logic after I purchased it from the app store? They say you can, but it won't allow me. Finally got logic pro 9 loaded. I recorded a test session, saved it,closed logic and when I went to re open logic the next day. My Logic icon was different ( it was the application icon not the silver record icon ) and I am unable to open my session or go to the app store to re install it. I can't find logic pro anywhere in my folders other than the application icon and that won't open.

  • Why can't I install apps after I installed IOS 5? The app sits there waiting..

Why can't I install apps after I installed IOS 5? The app sits there waiting..

This too started to happen to me when I upgraded iOS 5 and moved to iCloud.
I have since purchased 3 apps and got the waiting que and nothing.
I noticed though that with my Mac on, I went to IPad settings/general/iTunes sync and sync now, suddenly the three apps started o download and install. Why it's doing this I'm not sure until I dig a bit deeper.

  • Can I trash "Previous Systems" after Archive and Install?

For details leading up to this question, please see my previous post entitled "Not recognizing password after OS install". Basically I want to know if I can throw out the "Previous Systems" folder that was created when I did an "Archive and Install" re-install of my OS.
    Thanks.

For more information about the previous system folder and what is saved, you can check out Mac OS X: About the Archive and Install feature. Probably the most important piece of information is that the Previous System Folder contains a copy of the /Users folder. If you thought that something was missing from your home folder in the new system after the upgrade, you could copy it from the /Users folder. But, if you selected the option "Preserve User and Network Settings" when you did the Archive and Install, this should not be necessary.
Personally, what I would do is to leave the Previous System Folder be for a couple of weeks. If you don't find anything missing, then it should be okay to delete it.

  • Windows XP on MacBook Pro - Can't connect to wireless after bootcamp, why?

1)I just bought MacBook Pro, just did a boot camp with windows xp. With Windows xp installed, it can't detect wireless network. What went wrong?
2)When setting the boot camp, do i need to have the boot camp driver? Why?
3)Can Windows xp on Macbook pro use the same built-in modem, or do i need to get a modem/ adaptor for windows on mac, so the wireless (on window xp on mac) would be able to work.

Did you install Apple's bootcamp drivers after you installed Windows? You should be able to accomplish that by booting into Windows and then inserting the installation disc that came with your MacBook Pro. Without Apple's drivers, Windows may not know how to use the wireless circuitry on your Mac.

With the proper drivers Windows should be able to use the wireless equipment that came with your Mac.

  • Can't Re-install System Software

I need to re-install System OSX Tiger on a G4 Powerbook which has lost most of its desktop and user info -- including the Hard Drive icon, and it won't show the icon for the installer disk when I insert it. Obviously, I can't do the install like this -- and need help getting to it.
This is serious for me -- any help greatly appreciated

Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
    1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    2. Restart the computer.
    3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
    4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
    5. Wait for installer to finish loading.

  • Can I un-install IE after installing Firefox?

I run Windows XP with IE 8.0. I got Firefox, and it worked better than IE right from the start. After a few months the Windows slowed to a crawl or locked up, using 100% of CPU and over 1 gb of memory. I got a second gb of memory, and the locking up stopped, but performance is still poor. When I start Firefox and start Task Manager a bunch of Internet Explorer tasks start up using tons of memory and CPU resources. Can I un-install IE and use just Firefox?

As FredMcD says, IE is tied into Windows. It is a good idea to have a second browser, anyway, in case something goes wrong with your Firefox.
A bit of housekeeping will help. Your System Details shown above show related plug-ins -

You would be better off without both of these. Google for information and removal advice.
Your Shockwave Flash is also well out of date.

  • Can't boot os x after bootcamp

    Hello.
    The problem:
Yesterday I installed windows 7 on my early 2009 (mavericks) mac pro via boot camp.
I have three HD in my mac. One for os x, one for documents, and one for the windows. Before I start bootcamp I formatted my HD into NTFS for Win.
I run the bootcamp and everything went well, until the standard windows partition screen show up. I select the "bootcamp" HD, but i only can continue the installing if I format the hard drive.
The Win7 run well, but now I can't boot into os x.
When I hold down "options", only the windows appear as a selectable option.
I installed bootcamp on windows manually (4.0.4033 according to Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems)
when I try to restart to osx the bootcamp say "there is no bootable volume".
i only see the "bootcamp" HD, and I can't treat the other two.
    What I tried
    Resetting NVRAM and PRAM
Holding down various key combinations (Options, Command + R, Options + R)
When I take out the "Machintos hd" a flashing folder pic appears.
I don't have the installation disk for os x, and I don't want to uninstall the os x..
There is any solution for my problem?

    1. How many physical drives do you have in the MacPro?
    2. Was Windows and OS X installed on the same physical drive?
    3. In the case of the Tower MacPro with more than one drive, all drives that are not intended for Windows use must be physically removed from drive bays, before Windows is installed.
    4. If you cannot see OS X, use an external disk (Firewire or USB with 16GB or more) and install a fresh copy of OS X and both you MacPro and the the disk with Windows can be corrected, if possible.
    5. OSX re-installation leaves you files intact, unless you tell the OS X Installer to erase the designated drive.
    6. Step 4 can also uses a USB flash drive, if necessary.
The error message is because a drive which was present when Windows was installed (it is stored in the BCD for W7/W8 or boot manager/loader)is no longer available. It is complaining about it.
If you put this drive back, can you boot into Windows successfully? If yes, can you post a screen shot of Control Panel -> System -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management.

  • Why can´t I install system on ext. disk??

Why can´t I install my system on an external firewiredisk to have an alternative boot disk? My dealer said I can do. Now I tried to install Tiger from original DVD to an external firewire 400 disk from lacie, that was originally formatted to mac extended in two partitions. Before installation now, I formatted one partition to mac ext. journaled. Installer didn´t accept that. Why?

I'm not sure that's correct. "Not sure" because of the 10.2 issue, but I can say definitively that you can boot a both a G4 PB running 10.3 and an Intel MBP running 10.4 from the different partitions on the same external drive.
The two issues are partition scheme and the formatting of each partition. For my example, both partitions can have the same format, but that shouldn't matter for this since partitioning is "above" formatting in the drive architecture.
PPC machines must have an Apple Partition Map (APM) partition scheme on the boot drive to boot (they can't boot from a GUID drive). The Intel Mac OS installer requires a GUID-partitioned drive to install onto, but Intel Macs don't require GUID drives to boot. In other words, the Intel flavor of the Mac OS can't be installed directly onto an APM-partitioned drive with the install discs, but the OS can be cloned to the APM-partitioned drive. I have a LaCie external, APM-partitioned, and I use SuperDuper to backup my MBP and my wife's G4 PB running Panther. The external drive successfully boots my MBP and her PB.

  • Can't re-install system without losing everything on the HD

I am trying to save 3 Final Cut Projects on my Dual 1.8 ghz G5. Here's what happened. The unit has been working fine until yesterday when I turned it on and got an Apple screen with a turning gear and nothing else. I have another system on my second internal drive so I booted from there. Here's what I tried :
disk utility said disk OK but would not repair permissions gave a exit error.
disk warrior rebuilt it same problem with disk utility and Apple Screen
I reloaded the system OS X 10.5 big mistake, It created a previous folder but failed to install. Now if I run install it wants to erase the disk, there is no archive option. I can see the data on the damaged main drive but do not know how to copy it to a clean install. Or put a new system on the damaged disk.
My rescue plan is to clone the damaged main drive and then using the clone, try to move the applications and data from the clone to the clean drive. Will this work? What system folders need to be moved too?
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Naturally the back up I have with time machine is so old it does not have the 3 projects I need to save.

From the OS on the second HD, copy the FCP projects to it. If it's a complete clone of the borked one, then after doing that, erase the borked one, and restore the good one to it.

  • Can't recover my system after a hard drive crash.

    Hello
My hp DV6-3123tx's hard drive crashed because of a collision
    Steps i did:
Got a new hard drive and fit it in.
Using recovery DVDs tried to format it.
Everything was good but when the system reboots to install drivers it just gets stuck at the starting page (on which hp is written). I waited for hours together but it doesn't recover from that state
P.S: I had removed CMOS too after my hard drive crashed but restored and saved it's default settings in BIOS before the above mentioned steps.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Assuming this is just a problem with the recovery media, here's an alternative option you could try.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create an installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the exact same version that originally came with your notebook ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source, however there are only limited versions available.
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

Any additional drivers and software you may need can be found starting Here.

  • Can I restore my system after replacing my hard drive with the original leopard discs, then use my time machine backup (with Snow Leopard) to finish the restore?

I am replacing my original 100gb hard drive for a 500gb.  I am currently running OS X.6.7.  I understand the process of how to install the new drive and restore the system from the disc.  What I am unsure of is whether I need the Snow Leopard disc or can I use the original Leopard discs and then plug in my time machine backup to complete the restore?

How do I restore my entire system?.
or, use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your current system to an external HD, replace the HD, then clone the clone back to the new drive.

  • Can't restore the system after virus attack

After being infected by several trojan viruses my computers been hit by the old blue screen of death.
The system can run in safe mode with networking but will not boot ordinarily without instantly reverting to bluescreen.
The system restore program will not run in the safe mode because it says it has no set date to roll back to, when I attempt to set a date to roll back it reverts me to system properties when saying it should be reverting it to system protection.
Any solutions for ending my plague of bluescreen and un restorableness?!

    Hi!
Sorry but I think in this case the only solution is to reinstall Windows. :(
If the safe mode doesnt work you can to nothing and sometimes the viruses destroy the system roll back function.
I had a similar problem a few months back and the only solution was to reinstall Windows. I had no change to delete the virus.
    Good luck!
    Bye

  • Acrobat XI Pro - can't re-install/download after uninstalling due to login problem

I have had CS6 via Creative Cloud for a few months now and the last couple of days when I've opened Acrobat XI Pro it says it's installed on another machine and I need to log in. I log in and it says it's a mis-matched ID, even though it's not.
This is a work computer/licence and is only installed on this machine under my name. We thought it may be confused because we've got a few licences and there was a big confusion and muck up with Adobe when we first ordered and downloaded, and my boss is using his on his work and home computers. So I uninstalled Acrobat and thought I would be able to just go to the Application Manager and download/install again, but it's not available to download, I guess it thinks I've already got it. Can't do it via https://creative.adobe.com/apps either.
I have no problems like this with the other programs; Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
How can I get Acrobat again?
    Thanks

A restore won't get rid of the problem!!! **** crappy ****.
Is there anyway to send this question too Apple? Or do i have to spend the next hours on the phone with Apple Support?!
