Can't re-shuffle songs

Lately, I can't get my songs to re-shuffle. According to the card that ships with the Shuffle, all I have to do is "switch off, wait 5 seconds, then switch to shuffle or play". This has no effect whatsoever.
The memory of where it left off also no longer functions; every time I turn the shuffle on, it starts at the same song, not where it left off, as it used to; ditto for using the play feature.
It worked fine for the first half a year, but now misbehaves. Maybe it was the most recent software update?
Can anyone tell me how to re-shuffle my tunes?

Oddly enough that DOES work though i swear it didn't on previous attempts. guess that 1 sec rule is the trick. Thanks Aara!

WTH Apple is all I can say! I used this option daily...The only way around this is to go under songs, and using the search option, start to type the genre you want. It will eventually come up. I had the same problem with my iPad, i couldn't get the newer version of itunes because the computer was too old and my iPad couldnt sync with the old itunes. I got a PC from school a few months later so that solved the problem for me. Unfortunately i don't think there would be a program to put your music on your iPod, iTunes should be the only way to transfer files to Apple devices. What operating system are you running and what version of it is it?

The shuffle setting in the main menu will shuffle through the entire library as you have found out.
You need to go to settings>shuffle this will toggle through off/song/album. Once you have set this it will stay the same until you change the setting.
Now when you start playing a song in a playlist the iPod will shuffle through that playlist (or if you select your song through artist then it will shuffle through all the songs for that artist etc)

In Playlists, click on the "start playing in shuffle mode" icon (that I've ringed). And...
In this next shot (the space you need to watch), you can see the Shuffle icon (ringed in larey lime) is blue, so it's "on", and I've also clicked on the "show me what's coming up next" icon (ringed in red). Study the list of upcoming songs. It's the Playlist we're in, but shuffled:

I can't get three songs onto my 2nd gen shuffle

I can't get 3 songs onto my 2nd generation Shuffle (bought 1 week ago). I can get anything else on with no trouble, just drag and drop, but these 3 songs I can't get on, I drag them over the "iPod" icon and they don't do anything, they just sit there and no little plus sign appears. Any other songs, the little plus sign appears and they get put on no problem.
These 3 songs are from a CD I bought and paid for. Every other song from CDs I own that I've tranferred to iTunes will go onto the Shuffle with no difficulty, but not these three.
To make matters worse, these 3 songs are from the only CD that actually mattered to me - it's a relaxation disk that was the whole reason I bought the shuffle in the first place. I had them on my old iPod that died last month and they went onto it no problem.
Why won't they transfer onto my shuffle?

Bingo. Thank you! I encoded them in "Apple lossless" when I originally uploaded. Among other things, the files were huge - I'd never noticed. (It didn't matter on my big old 40 MB, now playing in the Choir Invisible...) - I just changed the settings to convert it to (some other format) when it uploaded to the Shuffle, and everything is now fine.

Can shuffle songs or random play be used with a playlist?

After a playlist is on the ipod, can you play the songs in the playlist randomly or in shuffle mode? Haven't been able to find any info on this.

Well... yes, this works, but for me, it's a bit less than ideal.
I don't want to have to turn Shuffle on or off then navigate to the desired playlist.
What I want is a sort of "Smart Shuffle Playlist" that will contain X number of songs that I put into it and will always play those X songs in random order. Other playlists (non-Smart Shuffle Playlists) would not be touched.
Why? Some playlists would be an exact, fixed sequence of songs that I really prefer to listen to in a particular order. Other playlists would be a bunch of songs that would play in a random order every time.
The current options are *so close* to this... but just not there.

Hold down the menu button on the iPhone until you get a speaking thing.... Then say, "Stop shuffle(ing)"
I have no idea if this would work.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if you can randomly shuffle songs in a playlist. I have all my music divided up by Genre and sometimes I want to listen to one rather than the other. When I hit shuffle songs, it goes back to the entire library and shuffles all the songs. Thanks for the help.

Go into settings and turn shuffle on to Songs. Once
you turn shuffle on, if you select the playlist name
and hit play the playlist will play shuffled.
If you go into the playlist (so you can see each
song) and play it it won't shuffle. This hosed me

Can not shuffle songs

I recently joined iCloud and since then have not been able to shuffle songs on my Apple TV.
My songs are on the Apple TV. They are all there; all the album art is there, and I can play them individually; however when I click "Shuffle Songs" I receive the following message - "No content was found".
My Home Sharing is on, and I have unplugged the Apple TV and restarted my iMac, but keep getting the same error message.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

At least for me, it's when I'm trying to shuffle songs from my desktop's library on the appletv. So not icloud-hosted stuff. It's just that the timing seems to coincide with activation of an icloud account.
So it's able to access the library to display artwork, list all the songs, artists, albums, etc. and even play individual songs or shuffle playlists, but it no longer can shuffle if you select all songs, or a genre and all albums, etc.
From his description, it sounds to me like the OP is seeing exactly the same thing - it can access everything, but balks at shuffling directly from the library itself.
