airport disk utility can't read time capsule after a relocation. Wether I connect ethernet or wifi, airport doesn't read it. Even after reset.

Do a full factory reset.. and you will need to reconfigure it.. that is the usual process when you move networks.
You can do a fully manual setup though. The new v6 utility is just lousy at locating the TC.. if you still have a computer.. even a PC running windows it will do fine on v5 as long as the TC is not the latest model..
Or use iOS version airport utility.. it also seems to have less issues than the mac version.

  • Can't read data CDs after upgrading to 5.0

After upgrading to 5.0, I can't read data CDs I've already made from any other programs. When I try to open one, Windows Explorer shows D: drive with no folders or files at all, and 0 bytes used/0 bytes available. I can still play DVDs and audio CDs. iTunes 5.0 opens fine on pc, and I can access/play music, but doesn't recognize my iPod or iPod mini. I'm afraid to download anything else until I get this problem fixed. HELP - please
I've used System Restore to go back to earlier version, and that lets me view/use CDs, but I can't open iTunes - message says some files missing, reinstall iTunes. I've tried to uninstall iTunes through add/remove, but the install shield disappears after starting.

    hi Jeanne!
Problem is obviously a software conflict, but I'm lost on how to fix it. And it's getting tiring installing upgrade to use iTunes, then going back to System Restore in order to back up data from other programs - plus I can't believe that's the best thing to do for the pc.
gaah. okay, the fact that a Syetem Restore gets your CD drives back suggests it's a registry issue, and also that we're either getting a conflict with other installed non-MS burning/ripping software
    b or
(unfortunately), there is a problem showing up related to such software that you've
    b previously uninstalled,
but which has left behind some peculiar registry entries.
so let's try attacking both the ghosts of software present and past.
    (1) what other burning/ripping software do you currently have on your PC? can you go into your "about" screens in the packages to let us know the precise version name and number? (the decimal points do make a difference, i'm afraid.)
    (2) here are the standard MS troubleshooting documents on CD drive problems. it might be best to start with the
    b burning
KB doc, because that has probably the best information/links on the conflict issues:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324129
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321641/
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314096/EN-US/
    keep us posted.

  • Dvd drive can't read DVD's

    hi all,
My problem is the dvd drive in my laptop. It will not read dvd's commercial or burnt variety, curiously it reads cd's just fine. So far email tech support has been useless. I wrote them explaining what steps I had tried to fix the problem such as uninstalling and reinstalling device drivers and they suggested that I try and reinstall device drivers. Do they even bother to read the emails you send or just guote out of some manual. System restore did not work either, but the drive is rarely used so the latest system restore points are probably useless wrt this problem. Returning the unit to factory state is simply not an option. The unit is still under warranty. Any other suggestions? I couldn't find any firmware updates. Other than this problem this system works flawlessly and has since I bought it.

The DVD's I assume are data as well as movie files? Do you have an app such as Intervideo, etc to play dvd's?
My usual steps include running a laser cleaning disk, remove/reinstall as you have done and maybe deleting upper & lower filters.Once done if it still doesn't work,it is declared dead.
I would request a replacement.Of course HP will likely first make you jump through the usual hoops which include a System Recovery back to factory configuration. This can be eased considerably by making a backup Image of your current setup to restore later.
A great free tool I have used a lot lately is Macrium. It works fast and will create & save the image to external USB HDD, CD/DVD,network drive, etc.

  • IMac can't read DVDs

My iMac won't read DVDs. I put a DVD in, and it gets ejected after a few minutes. I already tried repairing disk permissions, resetting SMC, using a drive cleaner, trying different brands of blank DVDs, etc. but none of these work.

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.

  • Can't read old mail after new Tiger install

I recently installed Tiger (and archived my old system) as an upgrade from 10.3.9. Since then, I can't read old messages in Mail. The original messages are deleted from my isp server once the messages are downloaded by Mail. When I open any message in Mail received before I insttalled Tiger I see, where one would normally see the body of the message, the following:
"The message from [email protected] concerning “Your receipt from Apple Store, xxxxx” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
When I attempt to reply to one of these messages, I can't type anything into the body of the message.
I am online when this happens. I see no "icons" (ie an lightening bolt) next to my inbox; everything appears to be normal. I, also, have approximately 20 gb of free space on my hard drive.
Any suggestions as to how I might retrieve or open old messages? Thanks.

The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
More specifically, if this is a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problem. A similar procedure should allow you to fix other mailboxes that might also be affected:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to fix the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn’t need to have an .mbox extension.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
    5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
    6. Move any strangely-named Messages-T0x... folders to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or an indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn’t work as expected. If you’ve been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
    7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
    8. Open Mail.
    9. The account’s Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that’s not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
    10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that’s on the Desktop.
As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated now. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move the messages anywhere you want and get rid of the imported mailboxes afterwards.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Take a look at the following article (also referenced in the thread I mentioned at the beginning of this post) to learn what you might have done before upgrading to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON’T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Can't read old mail after 10.5.3 update

    Hi All,
For some reason, I can't read certain old emails after I upgraded to 10.5.3 in two of my mailboxes. The mail appears in the inbox as to who it is from along with the subject and date but nothing appears in the body. They can't be read in both the inbox and in the sent mail box. Everything seems fine in the other mailboxes.
I've replaced the actual mail folders in the library's mail folder but the problem still remains.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

I'm having the same problem. Today after I upgraded to Leopard (I did a clean install and then copied all the old mails into the Library/Mail folder) some of the accounts won't show the body copy. Can anybody help as for what I need to do to fix it. I can't loose all the old saved emails. Thanks

  • Can't read dvds burned on the same mac

    Hi,
I burn dvds on my macbookpro, but can't read them on the same machine.
    This happens since 10.5.1.
Tried both verbatim dvd-r and tdk dvd-r.
    A dmesg returns frequently:
jnl: disk2s3: flushing fs disk buffer returned 0x5
    which error is it?
any hint or pointer to a solution?
    -c.

    Hi All
this might sound funny or strange... but it happened to me 3 times before finding the problem.. So just in case here it goes.
If the machine was working fine at one point.. burns DVD with no problem it just doesn't read them..
Let me ask you this question.
Have you fumigated your place lately? or around the time the machine stopped reading the DVD;s.
I use the the foggers that look like smoke.. so they live no residue, no problem with living pilots on.. never had a problem with them
Til I had to replace the DVD drive on my older Mac, an iMac20 .. took 3 replacements for me 2 finally realize what the problem was...
Like I said, just in case.
    Good luck

  • Satellite Pro M30: Can't read DVDs on DVDrw drive

    I cant read dvds...
i can burn them but when i start to read them it shows me an error like this " E:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."
    its killin me, please help

    Hi
The I/O device error occurs if drive has a problem with the disc or your system config (mainly a disc problem).
The DVD drive cant read all DVDs or just the burned DVDs?
Which burning software did you use?
As far as I know you should always closed the burning session.
Furthermore if you need the DVD Shrink software please check this links:

  • Can not access my iCload, after I changed ID email?

I have an issue with the original email I used for an apple ID. I changed the ID main email, and I can not access my iCload account, or change the email ref on it.

To change the iCloud ID on your device you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.
When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.
