Can't read txt or pdf files?

I've been unsuccessfully trying to view these two most popular text files on my iPod touch. I thought that considering the size of the screen as well as ebook capability, formats like pdf and txt would surely be supported. Is it just me? Maybe I can't find the right option in the itunes or ipod itself, but itunes says ipod can't read this kind of file, while ipod's safari says it can't read the file when I try to download a .txt via Wi-Fi. What am I doing wrong? Do I need some additional software for this?

I didn't read your question fully.
Your question should be: How do I get pdf and text files onto my iPod touch to read. I've tried iTunes and it does not work.
The answer I gave is correct and will solve your problem.
- email it to yourself and read i Mail (not the best solution).
- Download the free version of EverNote from the App store and download the version for your computer, Drag the txt or pdf into a new note in EverNote on your desktop and sync to the cloud (as they say) and open the EverNote app on your iPod and sync
- Do the same with SugarSync or DropBox (you need desktop and iPod versions of both, both free)
- text files can be put in memos in Outlook and synced with Notes on your iPod
There are other apps -- Phoneview, for example -- that will also help.

We just migrated our last application from EP5 to EP6, and now we're having problems with not being able to edit .txt and .pdf files. The problem is that the files will only open in the browser rather than in their native programs (wordpad/notepad, Adobe Editor, etc). Surely others have encountered this issue. Which program opens on a link depends on two things:
1. The MIME-Type that is sent from the server together with the resource (file) you requested by clicking a link
2. Your Windows Setting defining which local application should be used for which MIME Type.
So there may be two things happening:
1. EP 6 is sending other (or no) MIME Types with the KM resources. You can check this in your KM configuration. See KM -> Services -> MIME Service
2. Your OS got the settings for apps/MIMEs changed. This happens e.g. if you changed on Win XP to SP 2.
So here may be a solution:
Go to Windows Explorer->Tools->Folder
Options->File Types, click on the TXT extention, and click
"Delete". Then proceed to recreate the TXT file type with the
default app you want (notepad).
IE will open your app (notepad) for links to text files from that point
on.
So, to check this for text files, open the registry editor, go to
"My Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt" (or .TXT), and check for a 'String
Value' with the value "text/plain".
This should work with any file type, as long as you use the right MIME Type (See KM configuration / MIME Services).

I have many pdf file in ibook app in my ipad but there is only one i can't read it (i can read it on my PC )
I have transfer this file in many way ( itune, dropbox app & attached then download by e-mail)
i am sure that the pdf is not secure from copying

Try using a different pdf reader like GoodReader.

You may be able to do something with Oracle Text. The following shows how to get an HTML rendiditon of a binary document. I think you can also get plain text instead of HTML

Can I read a single PDF file on iBooks, Kindle and Adobe PDF?

Hi there,
Is it possible to read a PDF file on iBooks and also read that same file on Kindle and Adobe Reader on the iPad?
I can't seem to do that and it seems silly to have 3 copies of the same file, in the same format, to be able to read on these 3 apps!
Should there be a book library such that when I open any of those apps, it goes to that library and displays the books and files that it can actually open!
It seems logical for this to be the case but somehow... ???

A pdf located in iBooks cannot be read by the other two apps, and vice versa.
Why not just use the one app for all your pdfs?
As with any library, a library can only display what is available on its own bookshelf.

Can't read PSE7 Tutorial PDF files

When I open PSE7, there is a link on the left for Tutorials. When I select one of the PDF tutorials, it will not open. I get a message:
A sufficient version (8.1 or later) of Adobe Reader is detected, but the the version of Adobe Reader that is setup to handle PDF content is older than Reader 8.1.
Although I do have Acrobat Reader 9.0, I also have Acrobat 7.0 Professional (Writer/Creator), and I suspect that it is this latter program that is attempting to open the Tutorial PDFs.
How do I get these tutorials to open with Acrobat reader 9.0? I have tried to right click on the PDF to select a program of my choice to read the PDF, but right clicking on these tutorials does nothing.. no context menu appears.

Thanks for the reply,, but I don't think Acrobat 7 is set as the default. I checked this in the IE7 Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs -> Internet Programs -> Set Programs, and I associated PDF files with Acrobat Reader 9.0. If I double click on any PDF file I have on my system, it opens with Acrobat Reader 9.0.
The problem is that when I open PSE7, and click on the link for tutorials, then seem to be trying to use Acrobat 7, and will not open.
Is there another way of accessing these tutorials directly from the Adobe site, rather than using PSE7? For some reason, there seems to be no option in PSE7 to select Acrobat 9.0

2. Get memory card and save the document to it from your PC. When the memory card is in the BlackBerry you can access it just like a USB thumb drive via Windows.

I have a similar problem. I can open, read, and save PDF files, but I can't view my online bank statement on my Mac. The statement opens automatically if I use a PC, but on my Mac the page says I need Adobe Reader to view my statement. I already have the latest version of Adobe Reader. How can I disable viewing of PDF-files in browser in Adobe Reader XI?

After I have upgraded to Adobe Reader XI, I not longer can find the checkbox under settings>Internet, where I can disable that Adobe Reader XI viewing PDF-files in my browser.
If I instead press on the button, I can see in the dialog box Adobe refers to an article there give me instruction to turn off the viewing of PDF-files via my browser settings. When I follow these instructions, I can see that the plug-in to Adobe is disabled when I not viewing PDF-files in my browser, and enabled when I viewing PDF-files in my browser.
Therefore:
1. Why has Adobe removed the checkbox where I can disable viewing of PDF-files in my browser?
2. How can I now disable and enable viewing of PDF in my browser?
My operating system is Windows 7 64-bit, and my browser is Internet Explorer 8.

PDF Adobe Reader, but next time I open Internet Explorer 8, I not can see

Another method is between the guide for accessibility
(edit>Accessibility>Setup Assistant. On screen number 4, you can find the
checkbox.
Since I am blind, I can find the assistant.
For my interessting, it is possible for sighted users of Adobe Reader to
find the same assistant?

I make internet banking and try to download a PDF-file from the HTTPS-page of my bank. If I click on the Java Script-link to the PDF-file the PDF-file does not open. I can also not download the PDF-file. I talked with the bank support and they told me that they had no such problem.

Ever since I installed Safari 5.1 on my PC (XP) I can no longer access the pdf files on my website. I have no problems with Chrome and Firefox. I keep on getting a message from WebKit2WebProcess.exe that the LogTransport2.dill was not found. (I HATE PCs...) I tried reinstalling Acrobat 9. I tried reinstalling Safari. I even tried an older version of Safari. Nothing Helped. Others have tried it on their machine, and it worked fine. But I do not know what is the matter with mine. I suspect the root cause is the missing LogTransport2.dill file. But I do not know how to go about getting it. Your help is truly appreciated. My website is http://www.hlmartworks.com.
