Can't rearrange icons or get to the multitasking screen

I just had my iPad mini reset and got iOS 8.3.  Now I am unable to rearrange icons - I can get the icons to wiggle but if I try to move them, they just snap back to where they were and I can't create any folders.  My home button is working, a single click gets me out of the app I'm in, 3 clicks bounces me to the home screen, but 2 clicks won't open the multitasking screen - I've tried adjusting the click speed with no success.  I've also tried the 4-5 finger sweep from bottom to top and that also won't open the multitasking screen although the other gestures work.  As an added note, I have screen orientation unlocked and while the screen will rotate within an app, it won't rotate on the home screen.

Is the device yours and unfettered, or is it a corporate or school-owned device subject to central management? Such devices can have a management profile imposed upon them by the central administrator, which can have such kinds of restrictions. And which do not show up in the Settings.

If you have a external USB enclosure - trying installing your hard drive in that enclosure and connect it to your usb port - restart your macbook while holding down the options key.  If you Macbook boots to your desktop then you have a faulty cable.  If you get the same error, then your hard drive just died on you.
    good luck.

The RAW setting in Bridge is not working. When I open Bridge I can see only icons, no images. The RAW tool icon is grey, not active. I am going on a trip Tomorrow and I need Bridge to be working. It was working earlier.

I never notied that icon before, and I've been using Bridge for 7 years.
Usually, when you have no image previews for raw files, this means that your Camera Raw plug-in is older than your camera. People always come across this problem when they use a new camera with older software.
To be sure, we need to know which camera you are using, and which version of Camera Raw. To save typing this out for the three-thousandth time, please follow this page which I wrote earlier:

This covers the subject, which is by far the most commonly asked question about opening raw files by a country mile.
If everything checks out fine, let us know. If not, give us more information and we may be able to fix this for you.
PS. Please just open one discussion per problem. There are three threads on this now. It makes it difficult to follow.

  • Help!  I can't get past the blue screen

I was having problems with my iMac last week with it freezing while doing my normal stuff. I force quit everything and restarted. This went on 3 or 4 times in one night. I shut it down for the night. The next morning, I started it up and it wouldn't get past the blue screen. It first got to the screen with the progression bar on the blue screen. So i did the troubleshooting in the manual. I had to go buy the USB mouse because I couldn't do it with my bluetooth mouse. Then I got so frustrated I did an archive and install. But it still would hang on the blue screen. So being more frustrated I erased my 160 gig hard drive since most of it is on my iBook G4, music, pix etc. Plus i have most of the stuff on my iDisk too and jump drives. I need to know what I can do before I have to drive 45 minutes to the nearest authorized Apple repair and reseller. My only days off to drive down are Wed and Fri. I would like to be able to load Leopard because all the problems started occurring the day Leopard arrived in the mail.. HAHA.

    Hi there,
Have you booted off the Install Disk by holding the *d key* down at boot-up, (not the c key), and run the extended Apple HW Test? Some Install disks require holding the Option key at bootup to select the AHT. Some Macs came with separate AHT CDs.
It sounds like either HDD problems, or Logic Board naybe.
Before you try another Install, Erase the HDD with the Zero Data Option...
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the Erase tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume, then chose MacOS Extended Journalled.
    6. Click Erase & look for Options. choose Zero 1 pass.

  • Just made the pc to Mac jump. Can I connect my iPad to my Mac Mini via Bluetooth ...my current keyboard isn't connecting so I can't even get passed the password screen.

Someone please help me connect my two devices together so that I don't have to purchase yet another item. Is there an app or something that would allow me to connect my Mac Mini to my iPad 2 wirelessly. I can't get passed the password screen because the wireless Keyboard will no longer connect to my Mac ...helllllppp .... I use it for both my iPad and my Mac mini....does that matter?

If your iPad is close enough to your keyboard and Mini
and if the iPad is merely in standby and not off, the
connection to the iPad is still active.  Therefore, the
keyboard will not connect to the Mini.
If the iPad is far enough away to break the Bluetooth
connection or you unpair from the iPad or you turn the
iPad off, then the keyboard should connect just fine with the Mini.
Most Bluetooth HID's (Human Interface Device) can only service
one host at a time.  This is by design.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Do you keep your data backed up?
If not, you should always do so*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
You never know when a hard drive or a directory might go bad.  Having a bootable clone is a must.
That link also shows you some tools you can use to recover data.
If you aren't backed up, try buying those tools first, before attempting to repair the directory.
Directory issues can be fixed with these tools*:

  • My new iMac had the old data transferred in-store but now it won't accept the password on the first screen. How can I reset this? I can't get past the first screen as a result.

I cannot get past the initial screen on my new iMac. Data was transferred from my old computer so when I turned it on It automatically had my name in the window and asked for the password, but none of my old passwords seem to be accepted. How can I fix this?? It's a new IMac with osx.

Which password isn't working? The one to access the iPad or the one to get your hotmail?
If hot mail, you go into the settings, mail, contacts and calendars and edit your hot mail account. Of if it won't edit, delete it off the iPad, then re-add it with the new password.

The ipad screen is white. Holding buttons didn't work so I restored it on iTunes. When I press home and on switch, the screen is white,  goes black then back to white with no logo at all. Can't get past the white screen. This happened after running app updates. Is there any fix besides going to Apple store? In iTunes on computer can see what is on there. 16GB OS 7.1.1

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

  • IMac G5 running OS 10.4.11. Started playing with a bluetooth speaker (may or may not be related). Now I cannot get past the blue screen on startup. I can get into safe mode. Tried install disc for disc utility and reloaded OS. Still get blue screen.

I have an older iMac G5 running OS 10.4.11. The other day I started playing with a bluetooth speaker (may or may not be related). Now I cannot get past the blue screen on startup.
I can get into safe mode. But no regular startup.
I tried disabling bluetooth, thinking that might be related. It didn't help.
I even tried using the install disc to run disc utility. That didn't work so I reloaded the OS.
But I still get hung on the blue screen when trying a normal startup.
    All help would be appreciated.

Try resetting the PMU/SMU and PRAM/NVRAM. You'd need to identify the mode of resetting depending on the model of your G5 iMac. The Apple support sites that would help you for this are –

Look into what security software you are running and disable it and also go to apple.com/support and search for
itunes store connection issues by actually typing that into the bar next to support then scroll down to one of the TS articles and begin a jounrey of internet explorer configuration.
I have done the looking for you all:

  • IMac won't start up, can't get past the white screen

I have an older iMac, I believe it's the g5, the white one, got it about 6 years ago or so. It was acting up recently, crashing programs, taking a long time to respond etc. I figured I just had too much stuff on my hard drive so I went out and bought an external hard drive. After I copied over a bunch of files (not everything, my music and my photos aren't backed up!) I then deleted the files I transferred from the iMac to make room. It took a very long time for the trash to empty, and then I tried to restart. It shut down but never rebooted. When I press the power button it will only get to the white screen with the gray apple and gray progress wheel. It stays like that for a minute or two with the wheel turning but barely any progress on the progress bar and then it turns off. I tried unplugging everything including the power cord but nothing works. Any ideas? Thanks.

will it start in Single User Mode ? (Hold Command + S after hearing the chime)
If so, follow the fsck section at http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417
and when/if you (finally) get a 'volume appears to be OK' message
    don't restart afterwards.
then, still in single user, type the command   df/    followed by enter
making sure that the result shows Capacity at some reasonable level, like 90% or less.
df means 'display free disk space', you're checking that the drive isn't so horribly full that attemoting to start might further risk your data
if Capacity is ok- reboot as per the article; if not, post back.
If you can boot in Single User & have done the above, but still can't start normally - try
Safe Mode to see if you can copy your files off.
If Single works, but nothing else, it's probably possible to copy your files in that mode, using typed commands.
if you can't start at all -
Checking your exact model at http://www.ifixit.com/ will show how hard it is to remove the HD yourself... some are pretty easy with the right-sized screwdrivers, and the drive can then be taken to anywhere with a computer & the right cable/adaptor to copy your files.
    or
    Target Disk Mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661
if it works for you, would let someone with a computer & firewire port access any of your files that are intact. Apple may, as mentioned, say it's too old for them to look at.
finding the dvd's/getting replacements would be best.

  • Can't get past the activation screen for iphone 3Gs

I am trying to activate the iphone 3Gs after switching from blackberry. When I turn the phone on, I get to the "welcome"screen, I choose my country and then given the option to activate through WiFi or iTunes. When I activate through WiFi, I get a message saying that the activation server is unavailable and to try again in a few minutes ( tried it again and was unsuccessful). I then attempt to activate through iTunes and receive a message saying that there is no SIM card in the phone (when there is). I am stuck here with a phone that is not working! I do not know what to do. I took it into Apple for them to check it out and they can't find the problem. Maybe someone has come across this issue and had it resolved? Please share!
    Thanks!

You are asking in a thread that is 18 months old. Whatever.
Here are possible causes for that message:
    1. Your antivirus is blocking access to gs.apple.com.
    2. Your phone is jailbroken.
    3. Your computer has been used at some time in the past to jaibreak some iOS device (not necessarily the phone with the problem), and its network database was corrupted by the hacking software that was used.
    4. Apple's activation servers are down (very rare, and never for more than an hour or so).
For 1. try disabling your antivirus.
For 2. & 3. you need to go somewhere other than an apple forum for help. Although you can try deleting lines containing gs.apple.com from your "hosts" file on your computer.
    Windows: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
    Mac: /etc/hosts
