Can't reboot Airport Express?

Hello everyone! I've had my Airport Express for about 4-5 years. Over the last month, I've been losing my network and when I go into the Airport Utility, it isn't seeing it my Airport, even when I'm sitting next to it. It has the same software (v. 6.3) and this is my third Mac laptop to use this Airport. I have it set up with DSL, and have had this configuration for about a year and haven't had a problem with losing my network until just this month.
The only time I can get my computer to see the Airport is when I do a hard boot and if I make any changes, like adding a password, on the reboot, it gets stuck at the yellow flashing light and my computer won't see it, neither will my company's laptop, nor my Wii. Do I need to just buy a new one?

I think I figured out the problem which was the Internet settings. My internet is DSL provided by my building and I changed the setting to enable NAT instead of DHCP. So far, so good. I've booted up my Airport about 5 times last night and it seems to still be connected. I hope this information helps!

All you should need is Airport Utility that is located in the Utilities folder that sits in the Application folder. If you have an iOS device, you can also set it up with that device with Airport Utility or in Wi-Fi section in Settings.

Airport Utility can't find Airport Express after setting up as repeater station

I wanted to extend my 2Wire-based wireless network into a specific room that never seems to be able to pick up the signal, and found the following instructions on how to do so on Apple's website:

Yes, you can do this two ways: If you can connect your airport express to your router via ethernet, then you will perform the following steps in the airport utility:
1. Select your airport express.
2. Select manual set up.
3. Under Wireless, select Participate in a WDS network
4. Enter your network name, radio mode, channel, and security
5. Under WDS, select WDS main
6. Check wireless clients
7. Add the MAC address of the router
8. Click update
That's it
Now, if you connect your airport express to your router wirelessly, all the steps are the same except for step 5. In this step, select WDS remote instead. Everything else is the same.
I followed those instructions exactly with my Airport Express and, after restarting, the amber light is flashing on and off continuously and the Airport Utility can't find the Airport Extreme base station. What the heck went wrong here?

Update:
I restarted the laptop I used to set up the AX as well as pushing the "reset" button on the AX (first time - pressed it for 1 second, Second Time - pressed and held for 15 seconds then let go). The Utility still isn't recognizing the base station.
I also upgraded the Utility's software to 5.5.3 right before I went through these steps, and now it's not recognizing the base station. ARGH.
Update #2: I plugged the AX into my laptop with an ethernet cable and the utility STILL can't detect it. This is ridiculous.
Update #3: Not 30 seconds after update #2, it FOUND the **** AX >.< I'm updating the firmware, but I still can't get it to work as a repeater station if I have to plug it into my laptop all the time JUST to get the Utility to recognize that yes, Virginia, there IS an Airport Extreme.

Yes. You can directly connect an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) using an Ethernet cable. The AXn would then just need to be configured as a bridge to allow the D-Link to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for all network clients connected to either router.
In this configuration, the AXn would broadcast a wireless network for your wireless network clients to connect to.

I'm using AE purely for music distribution and have just bought a wireless modem for the internet (not a AE). However I can now only select either the AE network, OR the wireless internet network (it's BT HomeHub). Hence I can either play music or use the internet, but not together!
Any ideas anyone..??

You should configure your AirPort Express (AX) to join the wireless network provided by the modem. The instructions are in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

1st Generation AirPort Express will work fine with Mavericks.
Are you sure that you have a 1st Gen Express?
Check the model number on the side of the Express. 1st Gen is A1264.
If you see A1084 or A1088, these are much older versions of the Express that were sold long before Apple began to use the Generation naming with "n" wireless devices in 2007.
Mavericks will not support the A1084 or A1088. Use another Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC if you need to administer the older Express.

I have a Mac Pro OSx10.7.5, a Netgear router, A 1st gen Airport Express Model A1264 set up in Bridge Mode w/ LAN cable as Network 2 for Airplay, the iPad palys music and connects to the internet great through it. I want to extend Network 2 to another set of speakers in another room so I bought another AE A1264. "Like new"
So far I cannot get the computer to see the new AE at all. I have tried it wired to the router, wired to the Mac, wireless near the 1st AE, I've reset it and restarted multiple times. It just isn't showing up at all. ZIP. I get a slow blinking yellow light.
The Airport Utility "Configure Another"comes up with a Mac address I haven't seen before. I don't know if it's the new AE or not. In any case none of the passwords including " " for a password work. It spins and I get an error message that "An error occured while reading the configuration"
Even when it was new the first AE took some doing to be seen by my Mac which was plenty annoying since it should just pop up but it did eventually connect via LAN. Once I configured it it worked on my network.
These things have been a real pain. Please advise.

Can I use airport express in a wired network to play music through my stereo?

I originally used my 1st gen AE to wirelessly stream music from iTunes on my MacPro to my home theater. This works, but there are some good days and some bad days where there are dropouts in the music. I have recently run Cat6 cable to my HT from my router next to my MacPro. This feeds a Gigabit switch that feeds the ATV, receiver, bluray, HD DVD, etc. I plugged in the AE to the switch but it still defaults to the wifi network rather than taking a feed from the ethernet switch. I know i can (and do) use the ATV (gen 1) to steam music, but sometimes it more convenient to use the AE. Is there a way to force the wifi on the AE off and just have it for streaming from iTunes? Yes, you can configure an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a standalone wireless router without Internet access for the purposes of providing a Wi-Fi network for streaming. Note that any computers that will be the host of that stream would need to connect to this AX's wireless network while doing so. They would not be able to be connected to two wireless networks simultaneously for both streaming AND Internet access.

Forgive my ignorance, but I just swithed to all Apple products a few months ago and I have a question about the airport express.
We currently have one airport extreme base station set up in our house. The only problem is that the g signal for my iPhone won't reach quite far enough to get to the third floor (its a very long and tall home).
I was wondering if you can use the Airport express as a wifi extender with no cords plugged into it, similar to the linksys extenders you can buy that extend the signal range.

Yes, an AirPort Express could be used with your Extreme to "extend" the wireless network created by the Extreme. I assume here that you have an "n" capable Extreme.
If you have an older 'g" Extreme, the Express could be used to "participate in a WDS" (wireless distribution system), which is a similar setup.
It will probably take some experimenting to find the best position for the Express (you want it to receive as strong a signal as possible and "extend", so a good starting point would be to place the Express at a point that was roughly half way between the Extreme and the area that needs more wireless signal.

You will still have to pay the hotel Internet charge for one device, if the hotel charges for Internet access.
If the hotel only provides wireless service, then a single AirPort Express will not help you.
However, if you have two AirPort Express devices, then you can use one to "join" the hotel wireless network, then connect the second Express to the first using an Ethernet cable and create your own wireless network for multiple devices in your room.

Can't see Airport Express unit, nor Airport Express Setup in my Network Settings

I can see my Airport Express in the Airport Express Utility App, lights are all green, but I can't see the unit, nor see the Airport Express Setup section inside my Network Settings. This is the case when trying to find the WiFi signal from 3 MacBookPros, as well as my iPad and iPhone (all running latest OS versions). I've been through the screenshots on line about how easy this is supposed to be to set up, but I cannot see the Express units at all. Oh, and I've downloaded the firmware updates and recycled the unit. No change. Bad Unit?

It is the only Express with 2 Ethernet ports. All others are "old"
Apple does not specify a model number in their product information, but it is A1392 in the U.S. I do not know if Apple uses different model numbers in other countries.
