Can't reboot Mac snow leopard

Hi you all.
I have a Macbook Pro Os X snow leopard 10.6.3. I erased my hard drive and now I can't reboot my computer. It wont even take me to the login screen. I tried to reinstall with my installation disk but the installation fails. When I turn on the computer, I get the flashing folder with the question mark, but if I put the CD into the drive, then the folder changes to the apple. I get pass the language selection screen and where to install os x screen, but still, the whole installation fails. The only option that I have for startup is the installation disk and network utility but it won't let me choose the network option. I tried command+ etc+p+r but nothing happens. Tried option during startup and nothing happens. I ran disk repair in the utility and it says the disk is OK. I tried to partition and reinstall, it still fails. Please' please help.. Thanks in advance.

Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
     1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
     2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
     3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
     4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
         installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • I can't reboot on Snow Leopard.

    Hi,
Since, a few moment i can't reboot on my snow léopard hard drive. On my computer i have OS 10 on a the first bay, data (audios ,vidéos...) on the second and third bay and windows XP with bootcamp on the last bay.Everything was OK but Since, a few moment i can't reboot on my snow léopard hard drive.Usually in the beginning i have the choice between OS 10 or windows but now the choice is efi or windows and when i boot on "efi" it's turning, turning, ... with no résult.
    Can somebody help me?

EFI is just OS X boot loader. So that is fine and cosmetic.
Boot from another drive, emergency clean Mac OS with 10.6.2.
Run Disk Warrior (Alsoft) instead of or in addition to Apple Disk Utility.
Your disk directory sounds like it is damaged.
The spinning gear wheel says the system can't make sense of the last good state, the journal, and can't do automatic repair. A SAFE BOOT or booting into Single User Mode to run the hfs diskutil repair might help - sounds like there was a system freeze or something at some point.
When that happens, booting from an alternate ("E"mergency drive) is best.
Two backup sets? a clone of your system from before this?

Restart with the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD in the drive or with the Lion USB drive connected, hold down the Option key just after the restart, tab to the installation disk, and press Enter. If the computer has a firmware password set, it needs to be provided for this to work.

The Snow Leopard license that Apple sells only allows you to upgrade one Mac. If you want to upgrade more than one computer, you have to buy the Mac OS X Snow Leopard family pack > http://www.amazon.com/Snow-Leopard-Family-Pack-5-User/dp/B001AMPP0W

  • My mac snow leopard 10.6.8 can not find my 3050a printer wireless

My mac snow leopard 10.6.8 can not find my 3050a printer even though i have added the printer bonjour to my print list, even though the blue and white light s are on on the printer panel.
    I have good signal strength
    the printer ip is 192.168.1.8
    Help

OK, using these instructions: https://www.broadbandadvice.org.uk/Website/Routers/HG532.htm  change the channel to 11.
Now, if and when the printer is connected with a vaild IP address, let's set a static IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

Can I upgrade from Snow Leopard  -  OS X 10.6  - on my current Mac to Mountain Lion  -  OS X 10.8.2?   Or even up into IOS?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
As your Mac is running Mac OS X 10.6, first open  > Software Update and install Mac OS X 10.6.8. This update will add the App Store, so open it and try purchasing Mountain Lion. If your Mac is compatible, the computer will start downloading Mountain Lion.
While your Mac is downloading Mountain Lion, you should make a backup of your files. Also, check if your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
If your Mac isn't compatible with Mountain Lion, see if you can use OS X Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4949 If it's compatible, call Apple to purchase Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

No problem, provided you have at least 1GB of memory (RAM), you can upgrade to Snow Leopard without difficulty.

A standard installation of SL will only replace the system files, leaving all your data and preferences intact.
But! Things have been known to go wrong, so I strongly advise backing up your current system to an external HD with the Restore function in Disk Utility before starting the installation.

How can I re-install Snow leopard having installed Lion? The disk supplied states that I cannot use the version of 'Install Mac OS X'...HELP!

None of the instructions usually given for downgrading seems to mention the fact that you will lose some data in built-in applications, including at least Mail. When you installed Lion, your Mail database was converted from the format used by Snow Leopard's Mail to that used by Lion's Mail. There is no way to reverse that conversion. Therefore, you will lose your entire Mail database. If your messages are all stored on a remote server, that may not be an insurmountable problem, but otherwise you'll have to restore from the last backup you made before the upgrade, and then you'll still lose all changes to the database made since that time.
Another fact not often mentioned is that downgrading is usually the worst possible solution to a problem with Lion. But that's the answer to a question you didn't ask.

I was very worried losing all my medical stuff on my iPad Air 2, plus i have nothing to use for the next day! So i have to try all the possible things i read on the internet!! And this worked on my part (Thank God, and thank you Google)
    Perform a hard reboot
Hold down the Home button and Power button on your iPhone or iPad and keep holding them until you see the Apple logo. Once you do, you can let go. When your device boots back up, go ahead and check to see if the apps have started re-downloading. If they still appear to be stuck, continue on.

Yes if your already on OS X Snow Leopard 10.6
See #8 Reinstall Just OS X + Software Update
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
However you should backup files REGARDLESS as anything can happen at anytime.

Yes if your upgrading 10.4/10.5 to Snow Leopard 10.6
However if your hard drive is more than 50% full, then it might be slow. Move just your users files temporarily to a external storage drive (not TimeMachine) and reboot, check in Activity Monitor than you have reclaimed drive space, then upgrade to 10.6, then reboot and Software Update to 10.6.8, then return your users files into their respective Music, Pictures, Documents etc., folders.

Optional:  For Snow Leopard Speed Freaks
I do NOT advise you upgrade to 10.7 or later on 10.4/10.5 issued hardware due to risks and performance issues, your PPC based programs will not work and require replacement.

  • I have a MacBook 5,1 (13.3" aluminum from 2007 or 2008). Automatic updates will only let me get to OSX 10.5.8.  Can I upgrade to Snow Leopard, Lion 10.6 or even 10.6.8?  Also, will I have any issues with my iPhone if it's updated to iOS 7.1?

The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
You can upgrade direct from 10.6.8 to 10.8 Mountain Lion without going through 10.7 Lion with the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody. The Model 5,1 will probably run 10.9 Mavricks when it comes out.
10.8 Mountain Lion is a download from the App Store, the price is $19.99.
Mountain Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.8 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Mountain Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Mountain Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

    Hi, you need 10.6.8 first...
First you need to research all the problems people are having with the higher OSX versions, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you have just in case.
then you must get 10.6, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

  • In how many different computers can I install my snow leopard?

In how many different computers can I install my snow leopard?
The one that came when I bought my Macbook Pro.

Kappy, I believe that he's asking about Snow Leopard, not Lion. Your answer would be correct in reference to Lion purchased from the Mac App Store, but not Lion shipped as original OS on a new Mac.
derojas, assuming you have a standard OEM, it-came-with-the-computer Snow Leopard installer, you are licensed to use it only on that one computer. You are not licensed to install it on any others. Many OEM discs can install only on the specific hardware model with which they shipped, anyway.
If you have a standard retail installer, it's technically possible to install it on any Mac capable of running Snow Leopard. However, again, the license grants you the freedom to install it on only one Mac at a time (i.e. you'd have to delete it from one Mac before you could install it on another).
There are family packs and other multi-licensing arrangements that permit the owner to install Snow Leopard on more than one Mac. You need to check the license to find out how many and what other restrictions might apply.
