Can't receive aol mail, Can't receive aol mail

Stopped receiving aol emails 3 days ago says my username or password incorrect but nothing has changed. Still receiving on I phone but not iPad

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!

I can receive email for my AOL account on my iPhone but I cannot send email from the iPhone. I can send email OK from a computer. I have AT&T service.

razmee209 (and others in this community)... HELP!
I have the same issue - I can receive email on my iPhone, but cannot send messages.   Keep getting error message:  (Cannot Send Mail - The user name or password for "SMTP:[email protected]" is incorrect
This issue occurred when I changed my AOL password.   I also updated my password on my iPhone.   After exploring this issue more deeply, it appears that my iPhone did not update my password for outgoing mail (as that are more "dots" in the password field for my outgoing server account, than for the incoming server passward that was just updated.
I am unable to change ANY of the information or settings in any of the outgoing mail server accounts - except only to toggle each account ON or OFF.   All other information is "greyed" out, and unavailable and inaccessible.
I know that if I could just change (or somehow sync) the outgoing password to match the new incoming password.
    PLEASE HELP!!

I have 3 mail accounts in apple mail. One of them has had the spinning ball going for several days and I cannot receive mail in this account or delete messages etc. For some  reason, I CAN send mail on Apple mail using this account, although it takes several minutes. I can receive mail in this account on my iPad and by signing into aol on safari and internet explorer on my office PC. It's obviously a glitch in Apple's Mail. I've deleted this account and reopened it in Mail on my Mac Pro with no difference. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, this E amil account is major to my business.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3276
sounds like a corrupt database or index
the glitch is your home folder and mail folder, esp look at syncservices
I'd post in the mail or Lion forum where you will find similar issues being discussed.

  • Can't send AOL mail but can receive it

I have had my Droid 2 for 3 months and still can't send AOL email but can receive it.  My outgoing settings are:  smtp.aol.com - port 587

The best thing to do will be to go into the account menu and delete the account to make sure we set it up with the correct server information. The steps to delete the account are listed below:
    Menu
    My Accounts
    Menu
    Remove Account
    Choose the AOL Account
Once you have done this we can re-add the account with the manual setup. The steps to do this are below:
Locate and Select the Mail icon from your Applications Menu. You will see a place to enter your Username and Password.
After entering your full email and password, select Manual Setup. You should now be on the Incoming Server page.
Locate the drop down box at the top that typically displays "POP3" by default. Touch and change the selection to IMAP.
In the Incoming Server box, change the entry so that it displays "imap.aol.com". Nothing else should need editing; Select Next.
You are not on the Outgoing server page. Change the Outgoing server box so that the entry displays "smtp.aol.com". Nothing else should need editing; Select Next.
Assuming everything went through with success, you will now be prompted to choose display/account names for the email. If you are planning on setting up multiple emails, then label so that you can differentiate this one from the others.
Once you have done this it will begin to receive emails with 15 minutes.

  • Can't send mail through AOL...receive OK..HELP

I set up my AOL account through Mail but I can't seem to send any.....I can receive mail OK but I've tried a lot of different settings on the outgoing but it just does not work.
Anyone have any tricks or special settings for AOL?
    Thanks!!

It does make a difference. For me, it did, anyways. When I first established an account with an aim.com email address, and specified smtp.aol.com, AOL rejected my mail because the domains didn't match. Or so said the nastygram splash screen that I got. If either smtp server specification works for you, cool. Didn't for me. So, if Steven is "cross-specifying" server/email address domains, it's worth checking this as a potential fix.
http://about.aol.com/faq/openmailaccess#MacOSX gives the official party line for configuring. It doesn't say, specifically, in (9) that it makes a difference about domain -- but it's kind of inferred because it says so in (5) when they tell you how to configure the imap piece ("... depending on type of account").
I, too, have smtp password authentication checked as well. That piece of info just didn't make it into the post.

  • Apple Mail: Can't receive mail

I can't receive mail, or set up new mailboxes. I can send mail. Here is a picture of what I'm receiving. I've troubleshooted on my own, changed ports (993, 143, 538), used connection doctor, checked and unchecked SSL, and still no success. Here are a few images.

These are the settings you should be using:
    Incoming:
AOL Mail IMAP server address: imap.aol.com
AOL Mail IMAP user name: Your AOL Mail screen name (the part before "@aol.com" in your AOL Mail address; if your AOL Mail address is [email protected], for instance, the screen name is "me")
AOL Mail IMAP password: Your AOL Mail password
    AOL Mail IMAP port: 993
AOL Mail IMAP TLS/SSL required: yes
    Outgoing:
AOL Mail SMTP server address: smtp.aol.com
AOL Mail SMTP user name: Your AOL Mail screen name (what comes before "@aol.com" in your AOL Mail address; if your address is [email protected], for example, the corresponding screen name is "me")
AOL Mail SMTP password: Your AOL Mail password
    AOL Mail SMTP port: 587
AOL Mail SMTP TLS/SSL required: yes

  • Can't get or receive mail

I set up a apple mail account and linked it to my aol address several months ago. In the process, I was asked to sign on for a free mac something which I did. Recently, I received notice that the free mac something was expiring. I let it. This morning I can't send or receive mail because my "address doesn't match authentication." Help !
    Thanks.

    Hi
Assuming that you don't want to continue with the .Mac service (which is $100 a year), you'll probably need to go into your Mail Preferences (under the Account section) and reset your account settings to the AOL ones. If your email is currently set to "Account type: .Mac", it's actually easier to create a new account, then move your old mail across manually.
Do this: click the "+" icon on the bottom left of the accounts panel to set up a new account. Set the following values:
Account type: IMAP (the rest of the fields on that screen are self-explanatory)
    Incoming mail server: imap.aol.com
You can tick "Use SSL" and leave Authentication set to "Password"
User name: your email address before the "@aol.com" part
    Password: your AOL password
    Outgoing mail server: smtp.aol.com
Use authentication: ticked. Use same user and password as before.
Tick "SSL", Authentication should be "Password"
See if that works for you. Once it's working, go back into the Account preference panel, click on your .Mac account, and go to Advanced. Untick "Include when automatically checking for new email". Then move your old email (in the inbox, sent items and draft, if necessary) across to your new AOL inbox and other folders. Once you're happy the email is all moved, you can remove the old account.

  • TS2621 Can receive ipad mail can reply to received mail cannot send

My ipad student won't send mail. I can reply to and send incoming received mail. I can forward mail. I can't compose and send new mail I have deleted and added server. I have checked aol mail acct password. Same issue on my iPhone

    Hi Marilyn,
If you're having trouble sending new composed mail, I would try this article, especially step 5:
iOS: Unable to send or receive email
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3899
    5. Delete the account from Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then add the email account again on the iOS device.
    Cheers!

  • Mail app can't send/receive

I've tried restarting it and making sure the ports were entered correctly, but it still can't connect to AOL to send or receive anything. Ideas?

    Hi
I've had just about the exact same fault with my mail program. I get a message saying the server doesn't recognise my password. But once I'd put all the relevant info into Entourage it all worked perfectly.
I wonder if something's up with the apple mail program.

  • For the past week I cannot send emails to msn or hotmail. I can receive from them. I use aol

I cannot send emails to msn or hotmail. This has been only for the past week....Up until then everything worked fine. I can receive emails from msn and hotmail. I have aol.

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

the problem I have since I upgraded to Mavericks version 10.9.1
The problem appears only with Mail not with other programs, not even with my browser.
When I try to zoom the text of an e-mail I received or sent , I can no longer use the keys Command + to enlarge the text, although I can reduce it with Command -.
As I have a problem with my eyes, This is a serious matter for me.
When I write an e-mail, if I select text and press Command +, it just displaces the text to the right.
Now, my husband has a USB keyboard. If he connects it to my computer, his regular Command + does not work either, but  he uses the extended keyboard, then it works. Unfortunately, he needs it for a musical application which does not work with a wireless keyboard.

Firefox 3.6.4 and 3.6.6 use a process called, "plugin-container.exe" which was using up most of my CPU when I opened up multiple tabs that contained Adobe Flash files, and caused Firefox to lock up.
My solution was to use Firefox 3.5.10 which you can get from the Mozilla website at [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html]
I am using Adobe Flash 10.1.53.64 without any problem in this version of Firefox. Check the release notes, I believe it contains all the latest security fixes in "Firefox 3.6.4".
Hopefully, they will fix Firefox 3.6 in the next version (e.g. Firefox 3.6.7), until then you should probably use "Firefox 3.5.10".

  • Can no longer send or receive iCloud account messages in Mail on my iMac

Simply that: On July 14, I hadn't been in Preferences or Settings, but Mail suddenly ceased to be connectable. No sending or receiving since then. While I can access my iCloud mail through a browser, there are too many negatives to that  method. e.g., I don't like lack of default composing preferences: why should I have to go through the font/size/color/ each time I write an email? But every time Mail does work, it "imports" more than a million messages -- per the Activity Monitor -- though they are certainly not all there (thankfully). I don't think Mail is "all there" since Mavericks. But I don't want to use gmail any longer.
Would a TimeMachine restore of Mail back to July 13 fix the settings issue as well, or just the doesn't need fixing messages part?
Is Apple's upcoming Yosemite likely to fix Mail's myriad issues? It seems as if MountainLion was mostly good, but suddenly there was/were Mavericks and several things were not the same. And not in a good way!

Well, mine now is, oddly enough, but there was a point when it worked again, and before I had a chance to say "hooray" it went out again. I have screen shots of the various account settings windows so I can refer to them if it happens again; I figure I can check the settings and if they have changed themselves -- cause I for sure am not going to change a thing since they are now working -- I can put them back where they were at the time Mail actually worked for my iCloud account.
Still, what a hassle. And ironic, that I can deal with my gmail account in Mail! But my intent is to switch to iCloud for my mail, since I do not like gmail's lack of sorting options, and some of Google's policies.
Good luck, Songbird68. Keep me posted and I will do the same--

What are the correct mail account settings and more importantly the correct DNS settings
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide
    Cheers

Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
              •          Server name: imap.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 993
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
              •          Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 587
              •          SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.
    Thanks to dpepper...
