Can't receive calls or SMS.  Please help.

Since I activated my iPhone last night, I haven't been able to receive calls or SMS. I can make outgoing calls and SMS, but when someone else tries to call my iPhone they go straight to voicemail or I never receive the SMS.
I have been using Wi-Fi so that doesn't block signals like EDGE does correct?
Any suggestions?

Did you port a number over from another mobile provider? If so, it can take up to 24 hours after activation before the port is complete. Usually, when it is complete, you will receive a text message from AT&T notifying you that your phone is now ready to make and receive calls.
You are correct, WiFi use should not prevent incoming calls.

  • Accidentally cleared storage on my phone, now I can't make/receive calls, etc. Please help!

    So I was turning my phone on and I accidentally brought up a white screen that gave me several options including Clear Storage, Factory Reset and Fastboot. Entirely by accident, I selected "Clear Storage". As soon as I realized my mistake, I quickly removed the battery. However, upon restarting my phone, I found that I could not make/receive calls or send/receive texts. Before going to my local Verizon store tomorrow, I wanted to know if there was anything I could do to remedy this issue myself. Any help would be appreciated.

  • I can't receive calls.. and the help stuff on my phone doesn't, well help.

    So I tried calling my cell with my house phone to see what the difference in ring tone would be with Out of Holster and in Holster (which I still don't know) and it said that the number I have called is not in service when clearly it is because I can make calls. I forgot how I did it but I kept calling I heard the voice mail message thing I made. I checked the help thing and it didn't help at all. It says I should turn off call forwarding and blocking but how it says to go in my Options isn't correct. Like, the setting isn't where it says it will be in the step by step directions.
    I was hoping someone had the same blackberry (pearl edge 8220 I believe). That or someone who's familar with my phone cos I'm not very phone savvy.I shudder to think of how many calls I've missed..

    Press the GREEN dial key to enter your Call Log.
    Then press the Menu key > Options > Call Forwarding, etc., and proceed with your given instruction.

    I updated my iphone software to IOS 6.2 yesterday and im not sure if it is a coincidence but now, my contact names do not show on incomming calls or messages. Also they do not show on past calls or recent history.
    All my contacts in my phonebook still exist and are correct, the problem only occurs when receiving calls or messages. please help i need this fixing

    Try to restore your iphone via iTunes or update to ios6.1.2.
    If itunes gives an error with restoring (DFU/Recovery or just normal)
    try this:
    open your computer and search on windows; C://windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts
    open up the hosts file in note pad you will see IP adresses and more add another line and put in this:
    #74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
    this is a by-pass to the cydia/saurik restore server, it has nothing to do with jailbreaking over voiding apple's warranty

    3. Ensure that your software is up to date:

    I should point out that it worked when the iPhone was set back to factory settings, but when restored with the backup, data/internet no longer works again, and I get the "Could not activate cellular data network" error message yet again.

    Thank you for the suggestion.  I haven't looked into Carbon Copy Cloner previously, I'll check it out.
    I'll see what I can do about getting to a store.  I've only just had the MBP13 get a logic board replacement, for which it had to be in store for a week, so I'll have to make plans to move data around so I can keep working while it's out of action.
    I won't be able to take it to a store for at least another week, so if anyone else has an (unlikely) solution in the meantime I'd be very appreciative!

    I think you don't understand the purpose of this forum. This is a user-to-user support forum. You're not talking to Apple. You're not talking to your cellular carrier.

    You need to call your cellular carrier and get this sorted out. No one here can help you.

    How about going to a corporate store and see if they will let you put your SIM card in a display model. Your number will transfer over with the SIM card. Then if you call your number from your wife's phone or one of store landline phones and the call goes through, you have ruled out the SIM card being the problem.
    You don't have the phone number set to automatically forward to the voicemail, do you?

    You cannot make your @icloud.com address the login address for the ID. However you can change your ID, currently a Gmail one, to any other functioning non-Apple email address. The Gmail address would then no longer access your account, and so even if someone were to obtain posession of it (is that even possible) it wouldn't allow them to get into your account.
    If you want to change your ID to another email address please follow the procedure outlined below, particularly noting the first step.
    Firstly, if you have 'Find My iPhone/iPad/iMac' enabled on any of your devices, turn it off.
    Create a new email address, for example  at Yahoo or Gmail, or anywhere convenient (or you can use an existing address as long as it has never been associated with an Apple ID).
    Go to http://appleid.apple.com and click 'Manage your Apple ID'. Sign in with the current ID.
    Where it says 'Apple ID and primary email address' and gives your current ID email address, click 'edit'.
    Enter your new address and click 'Save changes'.
    Now you will need to go to each of your devices and sign out in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud - 'Sign out' on a Mac, 'Delete this account' on an iOS device (this will not delete the account from the server).
    Then sign back in with your new ID. Your iCloud data will disappear from your devices when you sign out, but reappear when you sign back in.
    I re-iterate: before you start, turn off 'Find My Mac' (or whatever) or you will need the services of Support.
