Can't receive emails in inbox

Guys,
I'm just trying this whole Mac-thing, so this is not a good first experience.
Got my mbp a few days back, it's a 2010 15inch w/ hires, 8gig and 500 gb hdd.
Installed it last Thu and configured Email at the same day. I am currently using 3 accounts, 1 of which is gmail and the other two are just normal IMAP accounts. Everything worked really fine and I was quite happy until today, when on one of my IMAP accounts no more new emails were shown in the inbox.
- no more new emails came since around midnight
- test emails sent to myself would not arrive
- emails checked with thunderbird on my windows machine shows that there are a lot of new emails but none show up on the mac
- did some analysis and found that the system was busy syncing the whole imap accounts which is quite big (few gigabytes)
- even when the account finished to sync, it would not catch up with the emails
- sent another test email, that one arrived but still no old emails came in
- at this point I thought it would not sync read messages, but yet it did before
- tried menu -> mailbox -> rebuild mailbox, nothing helped
- one of the rebuild mailbox attempts (perhaps even the first one) cleared the inbox completely from all emails - at least in mail. emails are still there when I look with a different email client
- removed the account and added it
- still no more emails in the email inbox for this account.
This is really very peculiar. It worked fine for 5 days and why would it suddenly stop. Server software is an oldishly mdaemon, but again, it worked fine just for a few days.
It looks only to happen on this very inbox of this very account. As far as I can see, the other accounts are syncing their emails nicely.
I really would love to continue with using Mail but I have no idea how to solve this.
If anyone has input, please let me know.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi,
I had it set to cache all messages including attachments. Didn't think about the IDLE command though.
What I'm currently doing is to put the messages onto another IMAP server since I've read one posting somewhere else that mdaemon and mail cause problems (this instance that I found talked about Leopard but symptoms were very similar)
http://www.siriusmug.com/index.php/2007/10/27/alert-leopard-mailapp-is-incompati ble-with-mdaemons-imap-service/
This is really old news but the mdaemon I'm using is also really old so it could be connected. I'm currently pulling over emails to another installation which is not using mdaemon. So far I'm still getting emails, ie hasn't stopped yet, but I'm also far from syncing the emails to the other installation.
Thanks Ernie,
Tom

  • Can't receive emails sent from Windows Mobile

After much troubleshooting, I've found that I can't receive emails sent from Windows Mobile users. I never noticed the issue until recently, but I can't pinpoint when the problem began: Leopard 10.5.2, Mail 3.2... not sure.
When a Windows Mobile user sends me an email, it just doesn't show up in my inbox. It does show up in a web client, my iPhone, and in Thunderbird, so I know the mail is being delivered to my mailbox on the server. However, there is no corresponding message located in ~/Library/Mail, so it looks like the message isn't being downloaded from the server. I have emails before and after the stubborn email message, so it hasn't interfered with anything else that I can tell.
Anyone else been able to pinpoint this issue and figure out a fix or workaround? Anyone have any ideas?

I am experiencing precisely the same issues. Messages from Windows Mobiles v.6 (more than just a single handset) are not being displayed in Mac Mail 3.2
I have tried rebuilding mailboxes and changing the IMAP port connecting with Exchange server. The mail is there as I can see it in Outlook, OWA, and OMA
Similar situation to you in that I have no idea when this started to happen, but it can only be in the last 3-4 weeks max.
Please, if anybody has a fix or workaround, or knows what changes have been made to Mac Mail in the last few weeks.
    Thanks in advance.

I can't receive email to reset my security questions why ?
However I can receive other emails from apple . what can I do ?

If you aren't receiving the reset email to your rescue email account (and you've checked the spam folder on that account as well as the inbox, and tried clicking the reset link again) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

I have a 1st gen iPhone that I just updated the software to 2.0.2
Now whenever I press the mail icon it goes to the mail app for about 4 seconds, does nothing, no loading of folders, old messages, nothing.
Then it reverts back to the home screen. Tried restarting, haven't tried restoring, thought I'd look here first.
    Anyone???

  • Can't receive email all of a sudden

    Hi
I have had my iMac for a year now. I'm using system 10.7.5. I have had no problems with it at all until now. About a month ago I suddenly stopped receiving emails in one of my accounts. All the others worked fine. I didn't make any changes to it at all. All of sudden, when I clicked on the Send and Receive Mail button, the little wheel just turned and turned to the right of the email account and nothing happened. I called my ISP who told me everything was working fine on their side. They did notice that the account was logging in to pull mail, but it wasn't logging out again. They told me it was an issue on my side.
I deleted the account and re-added it and it made a difference for about 10 minutes and then stopped working again. I went as far as deleting that email account off of my server as well and creating a new one for myself, putting a forward on the old one so I wouldn't miss out on any emails. This worked for about 2 weeks and I thought it was fixed. Now, all of a sudden, I can't receive emails again. I seem to be able to send emails just fine from the offending account.
I receive them without any issues on my blackberry so it isn't my ISP. The problem is with my mac. I took all my accounts offline and back online 10 seconds later and still nothing changed. Now and then it will suddenly work but I will get ALL the same emails that I have been receiving over the last few weeks and NOTHING new. It's very odd to me but I'm really hoping someone will recognise this issue and be able to shed some light on the subject. I can't keep answering emails off of my blackberry so I need to fix this and I'm completely stumped.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!
    Mellowe

Shut down the app and then Reset...
    - From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
    - Tap and hold any icon until they wiggle
    - Press the red to delete the Calendar app from this list.
    - Press the home button twice when done.
    - Reset... press the home and sleep/lock buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
    - Restart Calendar

Do you have one, two or more entries in the left colum of Mail.app for your mail server(s)?  That is, do you have your Mail.app set up with either a btinternet entry, with a btyahoo entry, or both?  Or more?
I'm guessing that you might have one account (btyahoo?) listed for incoming (IMAP server) mail, and with the outbound (SMTP server) mail is configured and named btinternet.
Based on what little I see posted, it looks like BT uses both btinternet and btyahoo, but I'm not exactly clear on how they have their stuff set up, and their web set gets helpful and tries to help configure my mail — I don't immediately see a single web page with the mail server set-up details.  The BT email client set-up starts here.

  • Can not receive emails from third party email accounts

Recently I started working for a small business which has small business server 2011 and exchange 2010 installed. Before I started there were eight user accounts and they all have unlimited email access. I created a few users through sbs AD and also from
exchange console a week ago. Unfortunately none of them can not receive emails from third party accounts. they all can receive internal emails and also can send mails to any email accounts internally and externally.
This is a night mare for me as new users are having trouble with communicating via mails. I have tried all the methods and now thought of posting this issue on tech net. Please help me on this!!
    Thanks a lot!!
    Sammy

Checklist for testing inbound email problems, I am assuming outbound emails works ok.
    1. Check Port 25 forwarding on all modems routers/firewalls
    2. MX Record is created and pointing to the correct Public IP Address, use MXToolbox.com to verify MX Record and test SMTP flow. Also Verify your public IP has not changed, use whatsmyip.org to check you public IP
    3. If using POP Connector Service, make sure POP accounts are created properly
    4. If using a 3rd party spam host, make sure they forward email to correct public IP address, use step 2 to verify your public IP.

  • Can't receive email when I'm in an LINUX network

    Hi
I'm not the best in Network questions.
Just working for a company at the moment who has a linux server. I can go on their network and get conected to their data server via ip adress with mac osx and even with parallels. I can also go on the internet with safari and skype is working as well.
the only problem is that mail can't receive emails and msn isn't working as well.
does anyone know which settings I have to change to get into that network.
and is mail able to use the microsoft exchange server from that company?
    thanks

I'm pretty sure their firewall is blocking the ports for POP3 and SMTP or they simply substituted the ports with others. Many companies with an own mail server block the ports and you're stating they have an Exchange server. So there's no way to get your mails unless they open the ports OR they tell you the substitute ports. As for your 2nd question: Yes, Mail is able to use it, just ask their admin for server name and login details. If there are problems the Exchange server may need to be configured to use the IMAP protocol.

  • TS3103 All of a sudden can't receive email on Mail client.  Sessions with service provider (Att/yahoo) and Apple have yielded no results!

All of a sudden can't receive email on Mail client.  Sessions with service provider (att/yahoo) and Apple have yielded no results!  Recently upgraded to Lion, but have received email since.  Anyone having the same problem.  Apple says service provider problem, service provider say it's the mail client.  Anyone had this problem???

No.  My frustration with the problem just led me to begin the process convert all my email to a gmail client.  However, after some time all my mail with att/yahoo has been coming through as before.  Go figure.  Still will convert to gmail.

Live mail is a POP system, everything will be deleted, so backup first.

Not sure if it works in Mountain Lion.
Note that those only work if your recipients have allowed it to happen.
Also, Mail will not respond to them at all.
