Can't receive faxes on macbook

I have the external apple usb modem that plugs into the phone jack, and it seems like I have the fax and print preferences set up correctly. Anyone have any idea why I might not be receiving faxes? And also, is there any way to easily see the faxes that you have received? A log or window or something?

Hi Barb!
Have you followed these Setting up a modem for faxing in Mac OS X 10.4 instructions?
My received FAXs arrive in HD > Users > Shared > Faxes.

  • MFP M127fn can not received fax from sleep

I can not receive fax when printer go to sleep.
I already upgraded lastest firmware, turn on fax event, the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet but still not working.
There is no option to turn off auto sleep feature.
    Please help . Thanks

I am having a similar problem. Once the printer goes to sleep, I cant get it to wake up even if I press the screen or power button on the printer itself. The only way to get it to print once it goes to sleep is by unplugging it and plugging it back in.

  • Pixma MX 882 in if there is an answer machine on the line I can only receive faxes manually

I have a Pixma MX 882. I was told a while back by Canon Support that if there is an answer machine on the same line as the Canon that I can only receive faxes manually. Has Canon solved the problem.?
HP can do it, Brothers can do it, old Fax only machines can do it

    Hi mort,
This is true...but let me clarify the setup for you.  The answering machine must be connected directly to the printer.   Your phone cord will come from the wall outlet, into your PIXMA MX882 (L port on your printer) and then out (from the phone port) to the answering machine.  With your printer connected between the wall outlet and the answering machine, the printer can "listen in" for a fax on the line when the answering machine picks up.  Be sure the printer is set to Tel Priority mode and the answering machine is set to pick up in about 3 rings.

  • Can't receive faxes

I recently installed the all in one here at work and everything is working fine except for the fact that I can't receive faxes.  Please help....URGENT

    Hi,
Just trying to help.  Can you describe more on what happens when you do receive successfully, did the printer rings? how many? did you hear the fax tone for a 2-3 secs?.  Then can you describe the same things when the not succeessful fax from the other line?  or the printer did not ring at all?  If it does rings, at what point did it drop the connection - after you hear the fax tone?  Did you try to manual answer the fax call by pressing the  'receive' button.

  • Can't receive faxes on M1212nf MFP

I can send faxes but I can't receive faxes.  It will ring but then it reads communication error.  I have it set up to automatically receive faxes. What can I do to resolve this issue?

    Hey @Lynch1908,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing communication errors when attempting to receive faxes on your HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. Now, because you're able to send faxes fine this indicates that the fax modem built into your HP Laserjet is functioning properly. Therefore, the issue that you're experiencing is an interference issue with your phone line.
Just so you are aware, faxing is old analog technology. Nowadays phone companies use digital phone lines. Digital phone lines should work OK but there is a lot more static noise on those lines that causes fax receiving issues. Also, the transmission rate on these digital lines is so fast that bits of information can be lost when receiving a fax. This would also result in a communication error. The ultimate goal is to eliminate as much static noise as possible. To do this, please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Disable Error Correction mode:
    1. Press the Setup button () on the printer control panel
    2. Use the arrow buttons to select the Fax Setup menu, and then press OK.
    3. Use the arrow buttons to select the All Faxes Setup menu, and then press OK.
    4. Use the arrow buttons to select the Error Correction Setup menu, and then press OK.
    5. Use the arrow buttons to select Off, and then press OK.
    Step 2: Reduce fax speed:
    1. Press the Setup button () on the printer control panel.
    2. Use the arrow buttons to select the Fax Setup menu, and then press OK.
    3. Use the arrow buttons to select the All Faxes menu, and then press OK.
    4. Use the arrow buttons to select the Fax Speed menu, and then press OK.
    5. Use the arrow buttons to select Medium (V.17), and then press OK.
Note: If you are still unable to send a fax at this point, repeat steps 1 through 5, but set the Fax Speed to Slow (V.29)
Source: Cannot Send or Receive Faxes
Once these settings have been adjusted, please test fax receiving again. Should the issue persist than I will need to know the answers to the following questions:
    1) Are you using a dedicated fax line or is it shared with the phone?
    2) Who is your Phone provider?
    3) Is there an answering machine or voice mail on your fax line?
    4) Does your fax cable go from the rear of your Laserjet to the wall jack or is there any splitters or modems in between?
    5) Are you using a DSL phone line?
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Should the issue persist be sure to respond with the answers to my questions above. Good luck!

  • Receiving faxes on MacBook Pro

Just updated my iMac to a MacBook Pro. I need to receive faxes on this which the iMac did OK. However every time i plug in the cable to the phone line whenever anyone tries to send a fax all they receive is the line busy tone. When I unplug the cable from the Mac then they can hear the ringing tone. Has anyone any suggestions to help solve the problem.

MacBook Pros have never had internal modems. If you have an internal modem showing up in Print & Fax, it could be an artifact that was migrated. If you reset the printing system or otherwise remove it, it will go away and you will not be able to get it back.
The only option that will show up if you try to add fax in Print & Fax without a modem attached is Bluetooth DUN, which will allow you to fax through some models of cell phones which can act as a modem.
If you want to fax, you first need to get a modem.

  • Can send but can't receive faxes on HP Laserjet, on Mac 10.9 Mavericks with TAM answering machine

I have an iMac running OS 10.9 (Mavericks) and an HP Laserjet Professional M1212nf MFP all-in-one print/scan/fax machine connected by USB.  I have a telephone system with answering machine connected.
I can send out faxes from the HP and from the Mac (using Fax pdf).  What I can't do is receive faxes on the HP (I know that the Mac cannot receive faxes with this machine).  I've tried every combination of settings to no avail  even disconnecting the phone/answering machine to no avail.
Any ideas what settings I need?

    Hi ChuckStewart,
This is certainly a head scratcher! I have found some additional information, from the following link Using an HP Fax Product with a Telephone Answering Machine (TAM).
I found this blurb interesting, When recording the outgoing message on your TAM, the voice portion should be at least 10 seconds long, but no longer than 20 seconds . Record 5 to 7 seconds of silence at the end of the voice portion of your outgoing message (total outgoing message length would be your voice message plus the additional 5 to 7 seconds of recorded silence ).
I wonder if you might find something helpful in the document.
    Please let me know. thanks.

  • Can't receive faxes on LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw, but I can send with no problem

My new LaserJet Pro M225dw can send faxes but not receive. I have seen other posts on this forum regarding this issue but none of the answers have resolved my issue. I am copying the questions the responder in other posts has asked. What type of connection do you have? (Analogue, DSL, Cable Modem) Cable Modem
Are you using a filter? No, directly into wall jack
Are you using the 2 wire fax cable? Yes
Do you have distinctive ring set up on the line? I dont know what this is, chose "No" during setup
Is there any voice mail set up? Yes
Do you have a answering machine? (Where is it connected to) No
Where is the fax cable connected to? (modem, wall jack) Wall jack
Is there a phone also connected the printer? Yes How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless) USB What operating system are you using? Windows 7, 64 bit Thank you in advance for your help!

Hey ,  Welcome to the HP Support Forum.  I understand you're unable to receive faxes on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw.  I would like to assist you with this.   Thanks for the comprehensive run-down on your setup - that helps a lot.  With cable internet connections sometimes a filter is required for the fax receiving function to work, yet, I do have some suggestions you can try in troubleshooting the issue.   Firstly, I recommend you adjust your fax speed to slow:  Touch the wrench/Setup buttonSelect Fax SetupSelect Fax SpeedChoose slow(User Guide, p. 129) Additionally, I recommend clicking on your printer's icon on your PC desktop and running the fax test portion of the fax wizard to determine if there's another factor contributing to the receive failure.  You might find this article helpful as well.  Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post. Have a great day,

  • Can't receive fax LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw

While I can send faxes on my LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw, I can't receive them.  I've downloaded the newest software & drivers, and the LaserJet Firmware Update utility, and run the fax test, with the report indicating it passed.

    Hello @V122,
I'm sorry to hear that the reset made no difference.
Because your fax machine will manually answer faxes we know that the fax modem in your printer is functioning properly. In saying that, I did a bit more research into the Fios phone line that you're using and I do believe that your issue lies with your digital fiber-optic phone line.
Faxing is old analog technology. Nowadays many phone providers offer digital phone lines (like your Fios line). These digital phone lines should work OK with your fax machine. However, there is a lot more static noise and interference on those digital phone lines that cause fax receiving issues. Because your fax can manually answer we know, as I previously stated, that the fax modem is functioning. However, the fax signal isn't strong enough (probably due to digital interference) to prompt your machine to wake up and automatically answer the fax. Simply stated, your machine does not detect a fax coming through.
According the the User Guide for your printer: "HP products are designed specifically for use with analog phone services."  Source: User Guide: Page 110 (120-128)
Because Fios operates like Voip (Digital internet based phone line) we could try to lower your Fax Speed to Slow on your printer to give your fax machine more time to 'listen' and 'connect' as the digital signals transfer much faster than analog signals.
    How to Lower Fax Speed:
Select the Setup button on your printer
    Right arrow to Fax Setup
Right arrow to Advanced Fax Setup
Select Fax Speed and alter this to Slow
Once the Fax Speed has been changed to slow, please try to receive a fax automatically again to see how your printer responds.
Please let me know if the Fax Speed adjustment resolves your issue. Good luck!

  • HT1414 Why do I get 'This message has no content' with some e-mails on my iPad when the same messages can be received on my MacBook Pro without any problem, and how can I fix it?

Why do I get - 'This message has no content' - with some e-mails on my iPad when the same messages can be received on my Mac Book Pro without any problem and how can I fix it?

Is this a POP (POP3) email account?  If so, you MacBook Pro may be retrieving the email and deleting it off the server before your phone can.  Another possibility is that both your Mac and your phone are trying to retrieving it at the same time, and the POP server, which will only allow a single email client connection at a time, is locking out your phone resulting in the "has not been downloaded from the server" error.

  • 7520 can send faxes but can not receive faxes

We just installed the 7520 and everything seems to work fine except receiving faxes.
We can send faxes just fine, however the strange thing is when I try to call the fax number from a phone it acts like its dead, you never hear it ring or anything then it just disconnects. If I switch the phone cord to the Ext connection in the back of the device and then call the number I can hear it ringing on the calling phone and on the 7520 device.  The display lights up because there is an incoming call and shows that auto answer is on, but when it answers we never hear the normal fax type tones and it never connects.
The phone is being supplied by Time Warner Cable and it plugs into the cable modem. We called Time Warner and they told us that the line for the fax is an analog line but I have no idea how to check that or prove that.
I can't figure out why it will send faxes with no problem but seems like its a dead line when trying to receive a fax.
    Any thoughts?
    This question was solved.

With the printer's phone cord connected to the wall jack and the "1-Line" {nothing plugged into the 2-Ext} port, try running the Fax Test.  See Step 5.  Does everything pass?
Make sure the Distinctive Ring option is set for All Rings unless you have a distinctive ring set up with your phone service provider.
If you use a filter for your telephone, try using a filter for the printer.

  • IPhone and Yosemite can't receive calls on Macbook

Using the new integration feature in Yosemite I am able to make calls from my macbook via my iPhone.
When I receive a call it shows up on my Macbook but when I click to answer the call it fails and says "called failed"
I have 15" MBP Retina, iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1, Yosemite, all on same Time Capsule wifi router, same iCloud, etc.
Here is what I found my problem was. My MBP was connected to the Time Capsule via a "hard wired" Cat5 cable.
When I disconnected the cable and then just connected via WiFi I was able to receive and make calls.
It is odd that if I am on the same network but not connected via WiFi, but have a hard wired connection it will make calls without any issue but won't receive them.
Anyone else have the same issue?
Hopefully Apple will fix this in the future.

Is your old phone OFF?  Are you able to get any calls or texts on the new phone?  Have you  dialed *228 to activate the new phone?

  • Using broadband/phone line to receive faxes

Hi. At the moment the line that comes in is split, one to my computer and one to a fax machine. Is there a way I can send/receive faxes but still use the stand alone fax to answer phone calls and send some faxes? Thanks for your help. I receive so many spam faxes that it would save a forest! I'm in the UK if that makes a difference

So, can you clarify your phone and internet connections, you mention you have broadband and one split of the phone line, so what all is actually connected to the computer? Are you using a phone-line split to the computer USB/dial-up/fax/modem or a phone-line split to DSL modem to computer Ethernet or both of these? You may need to run an additional split to get both, and don't forget those in-line DSL filters for every phone/fax/modem line.
If you want to fax from the computer you have to use the USB/fax/modem with a phone line in addition to the Ethernet line from your broadband (DSL/cable?). If you are using dial-up for internet (not broadband, very slow band), then you can't simultaneously use the fax/modem to fax while you are connected via dial-up modem.
Since you have a dedicated fax machine, but don't want to waste the paper on the spam faxes, you may have to turn off auto receive on the dedicated fax and have the computer set to receive faxes as electronic files so you can just print ones that you want to save paper, is that your plan?
So, you can use a hardware fax/phone switch to route the fax calls to the computer, or some folks use a dual numbers on a single line phone service with distinctive rings and set up the computer to answer only the fax-ringer calls. Not sure which alternative is cheaper.
For outgoing fax calls, either computer or fax can use the phone line split, just not simultaneously.
