Can't receive normal text messages after updating to iOS5, only iMessages

Over the summer I bought iOS5 from a developer and had it on my phone for about a month until it crashed and I had to restore from a backup. So I put iOS5 back on my phone, and it crashed it again. I decided to wait until yesterday to put it back on, because it was legit and through Apple. Now I can't receive normal text messages from non-iPhone users. I'm only receiving iMessages. The only way to fix it is to turn off iMessage, but that's one of the main features of the update. Help?

i may put my iphone in the toaster tonight i am so $%#@!*^ frustrated.
i have an iphone 4 which i upgraded to ios5 about 4 days ago. yesterday, i realized i wasn't able to receive any text messages, but was (and am still getting imessages), along with the ever-so-vague 'sms mailbox is full, delete some text messages' alert.
so i came to the internet to find out about the supposed 15mb (75k*) limit. Apple's solution on their own site was 'hey, crazy hoarder, why don't you delete some texts?? there you go, EASY PEAZY!' except that didn't work...for me, and a ton of other people apparently.
i came down from 76something to around 67k.
I hard restarted, i ignored it, i deleted more texts, i bought phoneview, i deleted MORE texts, more restarts, NOTHING. it has now been 48 hours with no texts. NEED I ASSURE YOU THAT I AM A VERY IMPORTANT PERSON (as we all are).
so i backed up my phone (again, as i did before the upgrade), and restored it to factory nothingness. restart. restart. stare blankly. no texts.
then, i go to restore from backup (via itunes) so i can at least get all my contacts and whatnot back. lo and behold, my backup is gone. only the option to set up my 'new' iphone. i delay utter panic for a brief second and silently pray to the angel steve, sitting upon his giant white icloud, remembering that i actually paid for extra icloud space and backed up to that as well.
now i'm just waiting for it to restore AT LEAST my contacts, which it now seems to have done by the time i've typed this. PARTIAL crisis averted.
alas, i STILL am not getting any text messages. it seems that calling apple does nothing since apparently no one was told about this and/or how to fix this. i cannot receive text messages from my boyfriend, my parents, my colleagues who all are iphoneless and better off than me at this point.
i am leaving for a business trip in 12 hours. i'd like to figure this out before i put this thing in the garbage disposal or violently smash and use it's parts as confetti. although by the time i do, i will probably have lost all my friends and been disowned by my family for ignoring their jokes / emoticons / cries for help.
i fear apple has become a sentient being, and this is it's way of forcing all people of earth to use iphones...for there will be no other way to communicate with each other once we evolve and are all born with giant thumbs instead of vocal chords...hold me im scared...
it's so dark here...

  • Unable to send or receive text messages after updating iOS to 7.0.2

I am unable to send or receive text messages aftering updating to iOS 7.02. I have an iPhone 4S. I have run all the suggested troubleshooting still can't text. I have been to my carrier, AT&T, there is no issue with my account. AT&T suggested resetting the phone to factory defaults (thereby wiping it clean). I am trying to avoid that as I had issues with transferring data & contacts before. Any one have a work around?

    Try this iMessage workaround
Look for a fix by Apple by the end of the week.....

  • Cant receive text messages after update

Updated my phone last night and now I can't receive text messages. I can send them but not receiving them. I share my account with my wife and I was receiving her text messages. When I go to iMessage, I can't select my own number. It is grey and not checked, but won't let me check it. I sign out of my account, and sign back in, and it shows the number checked when I sign in, but is not checked in the iMessage settings.

you might want to consider backing up your texts with Gmail so you can access them anywhere, instead of storing them on your phone.

Android users can't receive my text messaging but their not able to get mine. Please help.

It isn't your issue, it is his. He needs to make sure he has turned of iMessage and removed his number from the iMessage database. If he does not still have the device, he needs to contact Apple Care to take care of it.

  • Ive lost all contacts and messages after updating to ios5 ??? Help

Ive lost all my Contacts and messages after updating to ios5 ??? Help
How can I get them all Back ???

Have had the same issue - and conflicts between PC, Ipad and Iphone.  Gained 6000 names and lost contacts or contact contents.  Have had to edit on PC.  Spoke with Apple Express and was advised to do editing only on PC and then sync.  Was also told not to use Icloud until problems had been solved.  Have spent last two weeks recreating my contacts list.
Haven't yet bothered to reclaim my missing paid ring tones.

  • How can I receive a text message from an iPhone to my iPad instead of my android phone?

my friend has an iphone6 plus, I have an iPad Air.  I cannot receive messages from his iPhone to my iPad but he can send to my android phone. I do receive iMessages from other iphone 5 and 6plus users to my iPad.

If you are sending an iMessage rather than an SMS (normal text message) it uses your Data Plan not your Text Message allowance.

So, all of my iphone-using friends need to simply have a data plan, and set up imessages so the texts show up as blue, and I won't be charged additionally?
    Correct.
The Blue iMessages use your Internet connection.
If you are away from a Wifi network it will use your Cellular Data Plan for the internet connection.
The Green Ones use your Text Messaging service.
Again If they have set up iMessages on their iPhones it will be sent through the internet.
All other Phones and iPhones that don't have iMessage set up, will use your Text Message Allowance known as SMS.

  • Nokia 6233 can't receive SMS/text message

My Nokia 6233 stopped receiving SMS/text messages, although I can send messages and receive/make phone calls. I let the battery run flat and then recharged again. It received some messages but stopped receiving messages again a short time later. I must say I have not been letting my battery run flat on a regular basis. Is this the cause? I bought the phone 2 years ago.
I do have 600 plus messages in my phone- is this the cause too?
    Cheers.

I don't think it is a battery issue. The more likely culprit is your memory getting almost full. Try deleting some old unwated messages or any other files. It is probably time to do a spring clean after 2 years.

  • Droid Razr M not sending full text messages after updating

I had an update to my Droid Razr M four days ago.  Since that update, if I send a message that is longer than the allotted characters,  the message is not fully sent.  The person receiving the text only receives the first part of the message.  They have then received the 2nd part of the message the next day, which was combined with a new text that was sent or they do not receive it at all.  My phone restarted automatically after the update, and I manually restarted it two more times.  I have had this phone for 5 months and this is the first automatic update.   Prior to the update, I did not have any issues when messages were longer than the allotted characters.  They were received simultaneously.  After the update, it's hit or miss receiving the all texts if longer than one.   Is anyone else having these similar issues?  Any suggestions on how to correct, besides sending smaller messages??

Dkronx, thanks for bringing your issue to our attention. I want to make sure that your text messages are working as they should. I'm not showing this as a reported issue. Do you show any errors when this happens, or just find out that the other person didn't receive it? Are you using any SMS apps from the PlayStore? Try clearing cache from your Messaging app. This will not erase data. http://vz.to/ZauvQJ Also, remove the SD card for about 30 seconds.

  • I lost all my text messages after updating to iOS6... PLEASE HELP!!

I just upgraded to iOS6 on my iPhone 4 and all my text messages are gone. I always do a backup before any major OS update. Everything is there (Pictures, Contacts, Voicemail, etc.) except for my text messages. After searching around, it seems like a bug that many people are experiencing. I have still yet to find a fix? Anyone able to get them back?

I dont think there is a fix available.

  • Is there any way to recover old text messages after update

When i updated my new iPhone OS to the new system, i had to end up doing a restore. This wiped out all my info and while i have a backup on the computer. I can seem to find a way to recover old text messages via the iMessage platform. Is there any way to recover some of those old conversations? Some have sentimental value to them.

I just need the last month of texts and I had not backed up for several months.

  • Cant receive or sent email after update to ios5

    Hey,
Since I've updated my iPad and iPhone I cannot receive ande sent mails while behind a proxy server. I've deleted and re-created my email accounts, still not working. Exchange, iCloud, hotmail an gmail don't work anymore.
Anyone having this same problem, what can I do to solve it?
    Thanks miranda

totally agree. After updating iPad2 to iOS5 my MobileMe email account went a bit wrong. Trying to send an email in Mail I found that my main account name was not available to send from. Weirdly two of my aliases were available, even though I've never used them on the iPad!
Deleted the MobileMe account and re-entered it.
Intersting that the account now shows up as [email protected] even though I entered [email protected] Looks like Apple is trying to distance itself from MobileMe already
By the way, there's a known problem with MobileMe mail at the moment affecting all users, not just iPad users, see the MobileMe forum for details.

  • HT4528 About 30 minutes ago, my iphone 4 screen just went white. It still shows the time, signal and battery at the top, but everything else is white. I can't receive calls/text messages. My phone will not lock or turnoff,  but it will charge. HELP!!

I don't know what to do. My iPhone 4 just all of a sudden had a blank white screen. It still shows the bar at the top with the signal, time, and battery life. But the rest of the screen is white. If I touch the screen it acts like it's selecting something and gives me the choice to "Copy". It will still charge when I plug it up, but i cannot turn it off or lock the screen. I tried leaving it alone for awhile to see if it will lock on its own, like it normally would, and all it does is dim the screen. I guess im going to try to just let it die, and then see what happens, but if anyone else has any suggestions (other than taking it in to be looked at or getting a new phone) I would greatly appreciate it!

Any number of things could have caused the phone to do this. If after the reset you are experiencing additional problems, the next step in the troubleshooting process is a restore from a backup. Make sure you have one before you start the restore process. If that does not improve things, then you may have to restore as a new device. Remember, restoring as a new device will delete all data off the phone. Make sure all of your pictures are imported to the computer and all other data is synced to supported applications on the computer before restoring as new. See this support document about backups http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946, and this about restoring the phone. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

  • After installing ios 6 to my iphone4 and my daughters iphone4s we now get each others text messages. How can we disconnect from each other so that I don't receive the text messages from her and her friends and she does not receive mine?

After installing IOS6 on my iphone 4 and my daughters iphone 4s we have this wonderful connection that we would like to break.  We are now seeing/receiving each others text messages.  I love my daughter but I don't really want to get all of her text messages from her friends and I don't really want to read every response she sends.  Additionally, she can also see my text messages and there are times I really don't need for her to know everything that I am doing.
So It is time to cut the cord we need our own seperate texting.  I am not sure what we did to have this happen but how do we undo it?
