Can't receive text messages from other iphone users but can receive them from non-iphone users
I had to recently reinstall mavericks to my MacBook and suddenly I haven't been able to receive text messages from iphone users on my iphone. I can send them but not receive them. Recently I was able to receive a text from an iphone user who turned off his imessages before he texted me. That came through. Of course, this would be difficult to ask every iphone user i know to turn off imessages in order text me. I've also tried to turn off my imessage on my macbook, iphone and ipad and still can't receive them. Lastly, I've also tried resetting my networking settings and that didn't help either. Any suggestions???
I am having the same problem minus the fact that I don't have a Mac computer I just can't receive any messages from iPhone users and I can't turn my iMessage back on at all it keeps just turning it off every time I try to turn it on. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Under Settings - Messages, do it state Sens SMS ON? Should be (this applies to imessage but just in case).
Same area, MMS Messaging is on? Should be.
If all else fails, go into Settings General Reset - Reset Network Settings (this will lose WiFi info but fixes a lot of messaging errors). -

There is no "un-sync".
It may have meant to simply uncheck sync movies and sync, thus removing any movies from the iphone. -
I can only get or send text messages to other iMessage users
I am not able to receive text messages from people unless they are on IMessage. Several people have told me they have sent me texts but I am not getting them. Also, people are not getting my texts. This has happened since I got my iPhone 4s.
Yes contact your provider, you most likely do not have texting turned on, they can turn it off,mine is,I can only use i message but wanted it that way, because I do not care to have to pay for the messages people send me

So, I'm out of data and I had no wifi either. For all my contacts that have iPhones, messages recognised this and switched it from iMessage to just message. Except for one contact. Even though I had sent that contact text messages before, as well as iMessages. I have no idea what hapoened or how to fix it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I had this same problem. I could send group messages to people that had iPhones, but when ever I tried to send a group message to people that don't have iPhones, it would never go through. I was searching and searching for an answer, and I finally found it.
I went to the Settings --> Messages --> Group Messaging
Turn OFF Group Messaging
Doesn't make sense, but it worked for me. Hope it works for you too. -
Problem sending text messages to other iPhones
When I send a text message to someone who has an iphone, my name doesnt pop up how they have it in their contacts, my apple ID pops up ([email protected]) in their text. It only happens when i send texts to people with iphones. it doesnt do this with any other phone. This started happening right after i installed ios 5.0.1. please help me figure this out!
Make sure that iMessage is turned on and completely activated. Settings>Messages>iMessages>On

Why do i receive blanks text messages from non iphone users when they send emojis ?
everytime some non iphone user texts me an emoji, it just comes as a bubbe with no words or emojis
i know there are emojis being used because someone had told me what they putWhatever emoji font they're using isn't compatible with iPhones. Mostly, I've seen the problem in the other direction. Putting emoji in a text from an iPhone to an Android can result in gibberish.

Receiving messages from non AT&T customers
I have been unable to receive text messages from non AT&T customers for a few days now. I am able to send texts no problem. Looking for a quick solution please.
Is this a new account? (recent port in)Gophone? Power cycle the phone.Do a battery pull if possible.reset network settings If none of that has effect, please contact tech support.

My wife and I both have an iphone. We initially set them up under one apple id account. When we text sometimes we will receive each others text messages from others. Example I will text a friend...she will not see my text but the reply comes to both of us. It seems to be random which ones. Any ideas how to correct this
Yup, get your own AppleID.
The messages that are being sent to both phones are technically not text, they are Apple's iMessage. They use the data part, not the texting part. So if you have an iPad or a Mac computer, you can send/receive the iMessages there too.

I have spent hours on the phone with Apple and AT&T. I went thought reset, on/off, etc, etc with both companies to no avail. Each company pointed fingers at the other....as being the source of the problem.
Problems: Suddenly ALL incoming calls were going directly to VM with no signal I missed calls and/or had VM. I was also unable to receive all Text Messages...Oddly, I could send text messages to anyone (even non-apple users but I could not receive their responses)........then I when I got home I started receiving text messages from other apples users ONLY. I assume now - iMessage kicked in and I could text (send/receive) other iPhone/iPad/iTouch users ONLY. ....yes, I could still (send) text messages to my husband's blackberry (he received my messages fine) but my phone would NOT receive his text respones.
Finally, I googled the problem and found this community where other people have had the exact same problems! One person said he "turned off 3 G" which was the solution for him....so I did the same and VIOLA! My problem solved! Nevermind the fact that I pay for 3G and cannot use it....so here's my question, if 3G is the problem on my phone is this an APPLE issue or a NETWORK problem? Do I purchase a new phone and slip in my same SIM card and hope the same does not occur or do I get a whole new SIM card and phone? What is the long term resolution to this problem?
I am happy however to find that my problem is NOT an isolated incident and wish Apple or AT&T had told me this is not so uncommon because I thought (based on the baffled response from Apple) that this has never occurred before. Where is Steve Jobs when we need him?jsavage9621,

After installing IOS6 on my iphone 4 and my daughters iphone 4s we have this wonderful connection that we would like to break. We are now seeing/receiving each others text messages. I love my daughter but I don't really want to get all of her text messages from her friends and I don't really want to read every response she sends. Additionally, she can also see my text messages and there are times I really don't need for her to know everything that I am doing.
So It is time to cut the cord we need our own seperate texting. I am not sure what we did to have this happen but how do we undo it?Get your Apple ID sort out.
Only use the same Apple ID in Settings > iTunes & App Stores to share purchases, no where else.

I recently switched from my iphone to a samsung Galaxy S4, trading in my iphone. I now can not send/receive text messages from any iphones to my galaxy S4. Since I traded the iphone in, I can't access it to make any changes. Any ideas?

Ever since I enabled iMessage on my Mac Airbook, I can no longer receive text messages from the iMessage people on my iPhone, only on my iMessage now!! How do I get the messages to reach both iMessage and iPhone??
We are suffering very similar issues when communicating from my iphone to a friend who has both iphone and iPad enabled.
As long as I reply to an existing text chain, then it is visible on the target iphone. If I SMS the phone number, it gets routed to the IPAD!! And NO, I should not have to disable imessage when I want to send an SMS!! -

Disable iMessage. reset network settings. Enable iMessage again.
