Can't receive texts and poor batt life after ios5

Upgraded my 3GS iphone to ios5 and now it won't receive texts and I loose alot of battery life during the day.  Apple Genius Bar couldn't help, said wait for a patch, lots of problems with this upgrade!  Any other suggestions?

I'm having a similar problem when used with the iMessage , I won't receive text messages sent to my phone number through iMessage. All my texts are sent through my apple ID instead of my number, apple tech support just told me to turn iMessage off and only use when I need to and that worked for me.

  • IOS 7 downloaded fine but I can't back up restored. Tried 3 times. Tried turning off iCloud. Now I can only receive texts and phone messages. I cannot make calls, retrieve phone messages or send any texts. When I try I just get a blank screen. HELP

I initially tried to do this at 11:39pm last night. I cleaned up my apps, backed up to my computer and then took the plunge. It downloaded fine, everything went ok until I tried to restore backup. I received a message that there was an error in iTunes and iPhone could not be restored. I tried this three times giving up at 2:00 am. I tried again at 7:30am. No fix. Now I can open up phone and browse in safari. I can get notifications that a text was received or a phone message left but I can't receive or make phone calls, retrieve phone messages, or access any text features. Also I have NO purchased apps. I use my phone got work and this has ruined my day - please help!!

I would start with going to O2 with the phone and making sure it's set up properly - maybe the SIM they gave you isn't quite right or their network isn't acknowleding it like it should.
Seeing as you've tried restoring to factory settings and resetting network settings, I'm assuming you've tried restoring the phone as new, just to see if that helped at all. If that didn't help, you definitely need to get in touch with O2 and work things out with them.

  • HOT iPhone and poor battery life after 1.14 to 2.1 firmware upgrade

I recently upgraded my Original iPhone's firmware from 1.1.4 to 2.1. I did a restore rather than a simple upgrade (backup, restore to version 2.1, restore backup).
After the restore I noticed that my battery life was terrible and that the phone would get very hot (near the top of the phone) sometimes, as if the battery was discharging very quickly. I read a few posts that suggested Push might be the culprit, so I turned Push off (I'm not using MobileMe), and this seemed to solve the problem. However...
I now notice that whenever I play Apple's Texas Holdem from the App Store or play YouTube clips the same phenomena occurs, and that nothing short of a hard reset will stop it.
Oddly, if I refrain from playing YouTube clips or playing Texas Holdem battery life is much better than before the firmware upgrade.
In short, it looks as though there is something wrong with the 2.1 firmware. I see sporadic accounts of similar behavior on the various discussion boards, so I know I'm not alone.
Is there a fix for this behavior?
    Thanks in advance...
    James

Sounds more like an app stuck processing that shouldn't be....does happen from time to time. Behing hot means it is constantly processing.
    To fix:
    Try a reboot (described below).
Think of it this way, the iPhone is more of a computer than a phone. It suffers from being a new OS and nobody can deny there are not bugs and memory leaks. The longer left running, the more things start to fail or slow down (I have had the iPhone since day one of original phone and I am just speaking from my experience). Thus I equate it to like when Windows95 came out...not sure of your age or if you remember those days...but back then it was a running joke of how many days you can keep Windows 95 running before you had to reboot. I am sorry to say but the iPhone is the same way right now (but getting better with a few hiccups back during the 2.0 release). So for me, I reboot daily when I leave in the morning and take it off the charger. By doing so I rarely see any lag or problems.
    A reset/reboot is:
    Go to Home Screen
    Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
    Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
    Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.

I have been having issues with not receiving texts and voicemails daily, for a few months now. If I turn the phone completely off, when I turn it back on the messages will flood in from hours before. I can't be continually turning off my phone in case someone left me a message. How do I resolve this issue?

Wifi:  my Cell phone will remember 10 wifi connections.  So delete any you don't use often and your home wifi and try to enter home wifi again.
if it still won't connect to home wifi, call your internet provider for help.  You may need a newer router or different settings Or upgraded service.   Your phone seeks the best connection and will refuse lesser connections.
last resort.  Backup the phone.  Do a full reset, then restore as new with the backup.
if still not fixed, go back to apple and insist on repair or replacement.
HOWEVER.   voicemail is not a wifi issue, it's a carrier function, which is why the SIM card is a suspect.

  • My phone will on send and receive text and emails, I can't make or receive calls

My phone will only send and receive text and emails, I can't make or receive calls. Please help

Have you tried rebooting the phone?  Also maybe removing and reinstalling the sim card?  Make sure your not in airplane mode or check under settings -- general --cellular and see whats turned on or off.

  • HT4623 I updated my iPhone 4 and now I can't receive texts unless the person has an iPhone or is in my sprint network. What could be wrong?

I updated my iPhone and now I can only receive texts from either other iPhones or from people within my Sprint network. My friend has a Droid and I cannot get her texts now. What could be wrong?

Your device is broken.  If you want a device that works better than the one you have now, then you'll either need to bring your phone into Apple for out of warranty exchange ($149), or find a 3rd party repair shop in your area and see what they can do, if anything at all.

  • Offten I type a text message but when I touch send nothing happends. Other times its ok. I can receive text and my wife can send text when my phone will not. Any suggestions as to a fix?

Offten I type a text message on my iPhone 4G and nothing happends when I press send. The send button will not function. I can receive text and my wife's pnone iPhone 4g can send but I can not. Any suggestions as to a fix?

What in the world is an iPhone 4G? There is NONE. There is an iPhone 4, and an iPhone 4th Generation, but there is NO iPhone 4G.
Anyways, what it sounds like is that you've got the MMS subject line on, and if this is the case, then you've been typing into the subject line, instead of the body of the text.
You can either type in the body of the text, instead of the subject line, or disable the subject line in the settings.
If your subject line is off, or you ARE typing in the body, then something's wrong with your iPhone.

Can any one tell me how my husband and I can stop receiving text messages sent to him on my phone? His text messages to me are showing up under my number, like he is me?

Go to settings, messages, send and recieve, scroll to where it says start new conversation from, and make sure you each have a different email address checked instead of the same email address.

  • How can I receive text messages on my iPhone and iPad ?

How can I receive text messages on my iPhone and iPad?

If you are using the iMessage app on your iPad, you need to use the same email address you use on your iPhone.  But, be advised, that when people email your cell number on your iPhone, you will not get the message on your iPad.  iPad is not a cell phone.  And also know that iMessage on iPad is intended to only let you text with other iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) devices.
If you want to be able to text to anyone from your contacts list (those for example who do not own an iOS device), there are free apps in the App Store, such as TextFree, which you can download.  But, TextFree will assign you a number (I know kind of odd since iPad is not a cell phone), which you can then text anyone you want.  You'll just need to let your friends know the texts are coming from you.

  • TS4268 I CAN NOT RECEIVE TEXT MESSAGES FROM PEOPLE USING IMESSAGE - I HAVE MY IMESSAGE TURNED OFF BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT TEXTS GOING TO ALL MY ACCOUNTS - HOW DO I RESOLVE THIS PLEASE HELP - MISSING SEVERAL IMPORTANT COMMUNICATIONS...

I CAN NOT RECEIVE TEXT MESSAGES FROM PEOPLE USING IMESSAGE

On an iPhone your iMessages will go to your phone number.
You can select another email to use on iPod or iPad.
    Go to settings
    Messages
    Send and receive
Check your phone number and uncheck the common Apple ID you share so your messages will not go to other devices.

  • All of a sudden I can not receive text messages on my MOTOX. Does anyone know how to solve this problem. I can send them, but can't receive them.

My MOTO X was working fine, then all of a sudden, I can not receive text messages. I have checked the settings and they look correct to me, and I have done everything the web site recommends, except wiping the phone and starting over, to try and fix it. Has anyone else had this issue, and how did you resolve it?
    Thanks so much.

That's strange that your Moto X wont receive any text. Thank you for trouble shooting the issue. Let's see what's going on! Does your device have any physical or liquid damage? Does anyone else have an issue with calling or texting? What zip code are you in?

  • Unable to send or receive texts and calls

For nearly two weeks I've been unable to send or receive texts and calls I have tried resetting my phone deleting existing call / text convos and taking the sim out of my phone 4g internet still works but nothing else I'm using an iPhone 6. Why can't I send or receive anything?

    Hi ,
    Very sorry this is happening,
Have you tried the SIM in a different phone?
Also have you tried a network reset?
Note: Resetting the network settings will clear all WiFi passwords and refresh device network connections.
From the home screen, tap Settings.
Scroll down to, then tap General.
Scroll down to, then tap Reset.
    Tap Reset Network Settings.
Tap Reset Network Settings to confirm.
Note: If a security code is enabled, this will need to be entered between steps 4 and 5.
    Thanks.
