Can't reconnect - Weird modem tones
I connect to the internet using dial-up & the AEBS internal modem. Once connected, it will stay online for maybe 20-40 minutes, then the connection is lost. When I try to reconnect, it just says "Modem dialing" but never connects.
Here is the interesting part: When I listen to what's going on over a speaker phone connected to the same line, I can hear that the modem behaves in two different ways: sometimes it will dial out & then emit horrific sreechy noises; other times it will dial out & emit smooth, non-abrasive tones. If it's screechy, then it connects successfully; if it isn't screechy, then it won't connect & will just hang up after a few seconds.
If I unplug the AEBS for several minutes then try again, sometimes it will work & sometimes it won't. The AEBS has been like this since the day I got it.
Does this sound like a faulty modem? I've tried changing the channel it uses & adjusting the range & other variables, but nothing has helped.

During the setup of a dial-up connection, the modem goes through several handshakes with the equipment at the ISP. These handshakes test different connection speeds and therefore various sounds.
IMHO, it is impossible to determine whether the AEBS's modem OR your ISP's equipment OR the telephone connection between the 2 is the source of the problem based on your description.
Have you tried directly connecting from your iMac to your ISP using the iMac's internal modem?

I had my iTunes musical library on an ext. drv. WD 2TB, ‘MY BOOK ESSENTIAL'. Three weeks ago, my computer was infected by a virus that fried it. It did not affect the external drive. I bought a new computer: a laptop, Dell XPS, Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU, Windows 7 Home Premium. I have been able to connect the WD external drive; however, I am not able to see the musical library in my iTunes or Explorer. ‘My Computer’ shows the external drive as ‘G:’ 95% full. It reads, 32.1 GB free of 1.36 TB. When I click on the drive to see its contents, it shows nothing. The library in iTunes also shows nothing. Can anyone help, please? How can I reconnect my old musical library to my new laptop and iTunes? Many thanks.
Hmm, viruses don't generally "fry" drives. They can make bootable operating systems not bootable, hide data, and corrupt executable files. Software can potentially wipe all the data from the drive but it shouldn't be able to physically damage the drive. Bah! What's done is done.
As to unhiding your files assuming they are just hidden....
Hit Start > Run, type in CMD and press enter. Type the following at the prompt and then press enter:
attrib -h -s -r g:\*.* /d /s
This tells windows to clear the hidden, read-only, and system flags from all files on the drive, assuming of course your profile has the power to "see" the files and change them.
If that doesn't work then you may need to take ownership of the drive first. The drive may have security settings that make it "belong" to an account on your old system. Right-click on the drive in Windows Explorer and click Properties. Click the Security tab, the Advanced button, the Owner tab, then the Edit tab. Make yourself the owner, then you can make any other changes to the security settings you want to back on the Permissions tab. (If you can't change the owner log out and log back in as Administrator). For iTunes your account (or everyone) and SYSTEM need full access to all files. Any changes you make should be applied to "This folder, subfolders and files", should be inheritable and you should also replace the permissions on all child objects.

Please help. Just the last week or so (maybe since Apple released a new software update for my Airport, I keep getting kicked off the net and can't reconnect - it doesn't even show my wifi network in the list of available networks. I am considering resetting the airport as detailed in the manual. If I do this will it act as a new one and can I set it up as from the beginning. My Mac is running OSX 10.6.8 and if I try to use the airport setup assistant it tells me i can't use this version of the app with the version of my OS (because I have upgraded my OS ) I assume
I get a message saying my network requires a WPA password and when I put it in it says connection timeout - meanwhile here I am on my laptop and connecting okay to the net that way - so strange.
If I connect directly to the computer I have a good connection so it is not my ISP

Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.

You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).

Also, how can I reconnect my iphone to my Apple ID?Do you mean that you removed the phone from the 'manage devices' section of your iTunes account ? If you do then that won't stop you being able to purchase items on your phone - you only need to be logged into an account to be able to purchase with it.

If you are saying that you both have iCloud accounts and use the same icloud ID, then yes, the contacts will be deleted. The idea is that all devices using the same icloud ID are kept in sync. You need to use different IDs. You can keep the same iTunes ID so you can share the songs and apps. But use different icloud IDs.

I can't get my ring tones to sync to my new iPod touch 5. I see them in my tones folder, I've checked the "sync all" option and I've tried checking the individual tones and then sync. Each time iTunes says it has synced but the ring tones are not in the iPod.
Me too it has been all week and driving me crazy--- I've done everything I've seen on these websites to no avail--- does apple monitor these posts and offer any help????????

Installing wireless router, router works fine but can't configure the modem
I'm configuring a wireless network for my parents, and I can't seem to get it set up right on my parents desktop with Windows XP SP2.
I bought a Linksys wireless router (WRT54GT) to set up a home network, and set that up quickly. It's not having any problems, but I can't set the modem into bridge mode. I'm connecting to DSL using a Westell Wirespeed modem (C90-36R516-01) that is pretty old, but I don't see why there is a problem. I went to the IP 192.168.1.1 in my browser while connected to only the modem to configure it, but the server always times out. When I plug in the router, it goes easily to the Linksys' configuration panel.
The only thing I can think of it that I configured the router before switching to bridge mode.
I tried getting around this problem by configuring the router to dial Verizon automatically using PPoE, but I don't know if it's actually working correctly, and it still asks me to dial up when I start Firefox. Other computers on the network see the router, but don't connect to the internet.One thing you should do is get rid of that Westell modem from verizon. Its junk. I replaced it with a DLink DSL modem and internet is faster. Not that this suggestion solves your problem.

how can i synchronise the ring tones I created on my iphone 4 (ios 5)? i tried to synchronise several times, but it doesn't work. everything ok, with the exception of the ringtones.
Tones is the new name for Ringtones. Enable from Edit > Preferences > General tab and sync to your iOS device from the Tones tab when the device is connected.

sometimes when I try to make a call to someone, I can't hear the connecting tone im my phone, but the other party's phone is ringing. I have to end the call again and make another attempt. The connecting tone could only be heard after I made a redial. I have checked with many friends on different telcos, and they told me they also face this kind of problems. Can this problem be rectified?
I went back to the service provider twice and they reactivated my phone the first time and the second time the tech rebooted the phone and told me how to tell if it was on my end or the other person's end. Of course it didn't happen at the store, but right after I left I called a family member (on my plan) and the phone did this problem. It can be frustrating. The cell towers are strong in my area, so it can't be that. My next stop is to an Apple store but I am waiting until after Christmas. I can't deal with the shopping crowds!!!

Images Offline, NAS Drive in Finder but can't Reconnect
Aperture 3.0.2, Mac OS 10.6.3
I have all referenced images on network drive. It's all there in the finder but aperture says it's offline. Furthermore, the reconnect button is always greyed out.
Even more odd is sometimes when I relaunch Aperture, it finds the images but they're ephemeral. (I can right-click to Show in Finder successfully once or twice then it's offline again.)
I have tried rebuilding library to no avail. How the "Reconnect ... " dialog works is not at all obvious. In fact, it is somewhat misleading because so many of us were incensed over the apparent claim that our drives were offline.
I have come to understand that "offline", which appears in the "Status" column between the "Volume" and "Files" column does not pertain to the drive (Volume) but to the images (Files)! After successfully reconnecting Aperture to images in one particular folder of my external drive, the dialog then showed two lines for the same Volume: one showing the number of online files (the reconnected ones) and another line showing the number of offline files (not yet reconnected).
It would be clearer if the columns were labeled "Volume", "File Status", "No. of Files", but such labels would increase the column widths. -
Images are offline and can't reconnect
Two projects in my Library show the files to be "offline" or "missing." When I select them all and "Manage referenced files" the aperture library doesn't show up in the pictures directory, and I can't reconnect because of this. The Aperture Library can be seen in Finder and all of the other projects seem to be fine. I haven't done anything such as a backup or moving files or etc.
Ok. So in general we have the Aperture Library/"Files for each folder"/"*.approject for each project"/"a folder for each import session"/"a folder for each image"/"Files for each image"
1st I tried to copy the *.approject file to a different location and reconnect from the different location. However the *.approject did would not appear in the Manage reference files dialog.
2nd I moved the *.jpg file from the "a folder for each image"/"Files for each image" to a different location. Went into aperture and deleted all the files from the project. Then re-imported the files from the new location. This worked.
So I started the same procedure on the other project that wasn't working. Moved the files...went into aperture....selected all images....just about to hit Command-delete....but I noticed that the little yellow triangle is gone. After moving the *.jpg files, the project mysteriously begins working again.
So just to double check, I tried it on the other "mystery" project. I moved the *.jpg files one by one, and everytime I move the *.jpg file another yellow triangle goes away. So all I'm left with is a *.apfile, *.apmaster, and 2 *.apversion files. But that appears to make it work again.
I also checked some of the working projects...they have a *.jpg file but they still work....Go figure. -
Can't reconnect Missing Referenced Masters
I have a library which is a mixture of Managed and Referenced Masters. Library on SSD and Referenced Masters on HDD.
A very small number of Masters have gone AWOL and I can't reconnect them. Using Spotlight, I can locate the actual Masters with Finder - they are just where I expect them to be, in a subfolder in a Folder called "Aperture Masters" on my HDD.

These images are findable by filtering on "Missing" or "Offline"

Any ideas on how to reconnect?Interesting. The User Manual I was reading is a PDF and it defines the badge as this. Note that the badge is flipped in the two versions and the PDF doesn't mention FaceBook or Flickr.

i cannot get my all my ringtones to transfer to my vip email alerts. there is a specific tone I need for one vip email alert, but that one doesn't transfer, however it IS in my ringtones and textones. how can I get that particular tone for my vip email?
Only Apple Account Security could help at this point. You can try calling Apple Support in Canada - you'll have to find one of the several ways, such as Skype, to call an 800 number from outside of the relevant country - and ask for Account Security and see if they can help. Or you can find a friend who speaks Chinese and ask them to help you talk to Apple Support in China. There are really no other options that I know of.
Note, by the way, that these are user-to-user support forums. You aren't speaking with Apple when you post here.
