Can't record from timeline.

Running latest ver of FCP Studio universal binaries edition & need to do a crash record from the timeline back onto deck for a guide tape for director to time his narration/commentary. Project is in HDV 1080i 25fps (work in UK)and I've had a huge headache the past few days trying to Print to Video too. Our deck is Sony HRV-M15E. This is what I've been doing so far -
I set playback to Desktop cinema preview, View>all external frames, I press rec on deck, then Mark>play In to Out but each time I am just recording black. I've tried setting device control to both Sony 1080i firewire and SOny HDV firewire, but still no joy...My project A/V settings have all been HDV 1080i firewire (capture has been fine) but I finally got Print to Video to work today by changing device control to Sony HDV (which is a separate option). It took about an hour to conform a 22min sequence with only a few filters (all slo-mo) and all rendered & audio mixed down. Also I set the quality to low & it still took this long! Is this normal?? (First time working with this HDV codec). Anyway, I just want to knock off QUICK!!! lo-fi copies of programmes so the director can time his commentaries and recording directly off the timeline is what I need. Judging by my searches on this forum on HDV PTV probs I guess I'm not alone on this. Advice much appreciated, Alex.

There is no way to just knock this off, quick...without a capture card. That will allow you to monitor your timeline in RT out to a deck. If you have the footage as Native HDV, and you are recording to an HDV camera or deck, the ONLY option you have is to PRINT TO VIDEO...and wait for the footage to conform. No way around that.
And you need to set playback to FIREWIRE, not DIGITAL CINEMA PREVIEW. DCP sends a signal to your MONITOR, not deck.
If you had a Matrox MXO, you could output simply by pressing record on the deck and play in the timeline. The quality wouldn't be FULL rez...for that you'd need to still conform (so Matrox tells me), but it will be pretty darn good.
Sorry man....HDV is a beast to deal with.

Audigy 2 ZS Platinum - can't record from front panel "mic-

I'm using an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum. I have an electric guitar plugged into the "mic-in" port on the front panel. I can hear the guitar through my speakers but I can't record from any program. I've tried using "Creative Wave Studio" and XP's "Sound Recorder" but it doesn't record.
I can record by plugging a microphone into the back mic-in port.
This is very frustrating, please help

First is to set the Recording device to MIC2. The front panel device is considered the second microphone. Basically whatever program you use, I would assume it has to recognize this second microphone. Make sure you ahve it selected under the sound mixer (task bar Icon) "Line in 2/Mic 2" underneath "REC" on far right side. Then you can go from there.

Can't record from Line-In because the signal is too strong

This is happening with a just bought h9-1150 desktop system.
Intel Core i5-3550 CPU
IDT High Def audio codec
NVIDIA High Def Audio
I've been trying to record from a turntable into Line-In. No matter how low I set the recording levels, the signal is too hot, resulting in overdriven, distorted audio.
Doesn't seem to matter whether Beats is turned on or off.
Any help would be appreciated.

You will need to attenuate the signal or you will damage the audio input of your motherboard. You can either find a circuit online to make a converter or buy one. Here is a web document with more information on the subject.

With imovie can I record from camcorder

In Quick time I can choose any mic I have hocked up to my computer. It will also allow me to to pick which camera I want to record from. I have a mic in my web cam, stand alone mic, my stereo as inputs and mic in my Sony camcorder. I can record from any one of these. Can I do this in imovie? If so How.

iMovie is a video editing app, not a recorder. first record your video however you want, then import it into iMovie.

Well, if I am not wrong any Zen which are introduced within the 2 months or so would no longer have the FM recording feature most probably because of the RIAA regulation.
You may need to look for something older like the Zen Nano Plus or the Zen Vision M 30gb (the 60gb does not have the feature).

Cant do anything with print to tape or recording from timeline! Need Help!

I have been trying to get my mac book pro to print to tape using a firewire and a jvc dv deck. when i go through the process and check to see if it actually did it, all i get is black screen with no sound. Then when i try to record straight from the timeline (like i use to do with Avid) i get the same result. Can someone help me out FCP is suppose to be able to do this but i guess not. All my software is up to date and i dont know why this is happening!

Is the JVC DV VTR set to the right input for Firewire? In FCP, look under the View and see how the output is set.

Right now, we're recording the YT soundtracks from one computer's speakers using the other computer's built-in mic, so quality is good enough but not pristine. Can't record from external microphone

I have a 17" Macbook Pro from Jan 2012 and I can't get an external microphone to work. Initially I tried a cheap Sony microphone with no luck. So purchased logitech headphones. They have 2 jacks, one headphones, one microphone.

This is about the format or "Style" of the Audio that these mic produce.
Microphones are normally in one of two Groups:-
1) lo line-in which PC can make use of.
2) Hi Line-in devices which Mac use.
Many PC compatible Mics just don't work on Mac using the standard 3.5mm jacks
The Griffin iMic provides one solution to this.

Delete recording from VSMS server

In VSMS server, how can delete recording from storage? and can delete some of recording, like 1 hour from all recording or 1 day?

This is not recommended at all to delete recording files manually or for certain durations since every files has reference id created which are being associated to cameras.Deleting files in such can cause issue to the server.
What is the reason behind deleting those files from server?

(little knobs next to the bus assignment under "sends")
Do you have the Aux or any of the 6 tracks muted?
DO you have the master muted?

Recording from DVD to iMovie.

Can I record from a DVD recorder/player either NTSC or PAL subject matter tranfered to a DVD into iMovie. This is not copyright material, but my own NTSC VHS tapes transfered to DVD. Do I need a converter box? What is the video format? Is this a possibiltity? I only have firewire in to the MAC. How do I do it?

you don't need a converter box (although it's a possibility) but you can get the video off your DVD on your mac, converting it into something iMovie can handle

Recording from line-in without Audacity

I've got a bunch of vinyls I'd like to start recording to my computer, and it seems that the best way to do it is through Audacity. But I seem to have the problem where PortMixer isn't included in the version of Audacity that I have, so I can't record from line-in. I've tried other versions of 1.3.x, but I can't get any of them to compile. Apparently 1.2.x would work, but it uses OSS and I have ALSA. So is there any other program that I can use to record from line-in?

Thanks, but when I tried that I hit the "Start Recording" button and it just returned to the main menu. I'm assuming its because I need xmixer installed. I tried finding it on Google, and apparently xmixer is the same as xmix, but I could only find that on Freshmeat and it seems to be broken (when you run it it just spits out some errors and quits).

I want to record a presenter on a greenscreen and also his powerpoint slides at the same time and cut from one to other.
Can imovie record from screen and camera at same time?

If not, what is the most efficient way to do so, without having to learn a whole complex program?

Thanks for the quick responses. Unfortunately, there is no backup :(.
I will ask if they get logged into the global zone, but one thing I forgot to mention is that this zone (as are all our non-global zones and the global zone also) are configured for ldap logins.
Assuming that they can even try to login to the global zone, can they even see the directory structure in the non-global zone (sorry, I haven't worked with Zones much thus far) from the global zone?
Also, if they can see the non-global zones directory structure, what should they then try?
Also, I've been searching and I've seen some suggestions of running a "pkgcheck -af" which might restore the directory permissions to what the various packages expect. Assuming that they can get to the point that they can at least log into the zone, is that something that would work?
I'm setting up a new test Solaris box now, with a zone, to try to reproduce the problem. If I can reproduce the problem, I'll post back whether or not I see the same thing.
In the meantime, if anyone has any suggestions, please post them.

P.S. In case you're wondering, the box/zone that got messed up was a test/integration zone, and they were in the process of installing some software when this chmod happened.
