Can't Record Midi and audio  Simultaneously

I just noticed that I cant record audio and midi simultaneously. I wanted to record a audio vocal track as I was recording a midi piano track but it wouldn't record. If I selected the audio track, the midi track wasn't heard. If I selected the midi track, I could hear the piano, but the audio wouldn't record. Weird. I had to record the midi track, and then go back and arm 2 audio tracks for recording. One for the vocal and the other to convert the midi track into a audio track. I don't understand why I can't record midi and audio at the same time. I am using a MOTU 896HD for my audio, so I can record up to 8 audio tracks at a time.
Does anyone have any clues as to how to set this up to record midi and audio at the same time?

Setup your audio and midi tracks and then hold the shift key and hit the record button on each of them. Both audio and midi will record.

    Hi!
Enable all audio tracks (R) you wish to record. Then make sure you select the audio instrument you are using on the left of the arrange page (track list). If you here your input, hold shift, then highlight (gray) the mentioned audio tracks you wish to record on. When R is red, and the proper tracks are grey, you can record. Hope that made sense!

  • Recording MIDI and audio simultaneously

I just tried something new in Logic Pro 7.1.1 that didn't work the way I expected.
I have a set of Roland V-Drums that output both audio and MIDI. I tried to record both using an audio track and the MIDI drum track. I also tried recording using an audio track and a virtual instrument track. In both cases, I could only record on the currently selected track (either audio or MIDI) but never both.
On all the MIDI tracks, the record button won't stay lit unless I have the track selected. And if I select a MIDI track to keep the light on, the audio track won't record even though its record light is lit.
    Any ideas?

You need to have both the MIDI track and at least one Audio track selected. Here's an answer with a picture:

  • Error Garageband - can't sync midi and audio

I have no midi attached but still get an error message "Can't sync midi and audio".
All I am trying to do is record a voice-over using the built in mic on the iMac.  But this error message keeps popping up constantly.  I close it and then 10 seconds later it pops up again.
Why is garageband trying to sync a mid that I have not connected?

  • How to record midi and audio at the same time?

    Hello,
I have a Roland sh-201 synth and Logic 9. When I use patches from the sh-201, it will record it via audio. What if I wanted to record the audio but also have the midi information as well? How would I be able to accomplish this? My synth is connected via USB which carries both midi and audio. Sorry for my poor english, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You.

    Hi
Logic will record both audio and MIDI at the same time, but you *MUST* have the Software Instrument/MIDI track selected in the Arrange Track List.
The audio track must be 'Record Ready':

  • Recording MIDI and Audio at the same time....

I am having an issue recording a simple piano softsynth along with a guide vocal. Whenever I punch in, the audio punches fine but the MIDI/softsynth track hiccups, causing a lag in sound even though the MIDI info seems to record fine. Also, this does not happen when recording MIDI alone-everything punches in fine. Is there some setting I'm missing somewhere or is Logic not able to do this smoothly? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Fred,
I bring you my wisdom...Yes there is hope.
What you need to do is set the part you want to bounce into cycle mode. Dont worry, it will not cycle, it just knows now where to start and stop.
Audio and Midi can be recorded at the same time, as long as the midi is from an AU within the mac and not from an external source.
    Good luck,

  • Bouncing, recording MIDI and Audio at the same time

    This is 2 questions. Thanks.
    1. Each time I go to bounce a song, I have to enter the start and end again. I wish it would just remember form the last bounce. Is there hope?
    2. Can I record an audio track and a MIDI track at the same time?
    thanks,

  • Midi and Audio tracks simultaneously armed for recording

All, whilst engaged in laying down the bass track for the guitar solo section of my latest monster his, I encountered one of those sorts of frustrations that makes one long for some means of swift egress from this mortal coil, this vale of tears: that is, while laying down my totally awesome bass track that when they hear it will send JP Jones and Boosty Collins to employee as actuaries, I kept getting the hateful "unable to synchronize the audio and midi error." I'll spare you the catalog of the various lame attempts I understood to remedy this problem, as well as the curses directed toward my fate, and Daw ineptitude in general. Then I nnoticed that both the software instrument tracks (Addictive drums) and the audio track (aforementioned bass) were both armed for recording, signified by the red R in the track header! Well, upon de-arming the software instrument track I was able to record by bass line in a mimimum of takes, and as visions of illegal intozicants and comen of questionable morals dance through my noggin as recompsense for my trouble, with to make the point to all relative newbies such as myself that the answer to problems that seem on surface intractable as usually staring you right in the glazed eyeball.

    What?...
I'm sorry maybe I don't understand everything you are sayng... but I can replay to the titles of the Topic!
Actually recording a MIDI instrument and an Audio Track symultaneously comes with serious bug!!!
you cannot use Punch-in on Fly when an Audio and instrument track is armed at the same time...
or better you can but the MIDI and audio output will be dropped for a moment
    Provide a Logic feedback

THIS IS A LOGIC 8 BUG!!! BIGGEST SERIOUS BUG!
I suggest you to use Logic 7 when you need that!
Thank you so much for remember me this..
I'm sorry no alternative solution... or.. if you have 2 Macs you can use one for Logic MIDI and another one for Logic Audio!

  • Replace mode midi and audio

I hope I'm missing something. when recording midi and audio at the same time, with merge and replace turned on, the midi is ok but the audio is NOT in replace. Is there a way around that. If not does logic have a play what's on top structure like nuendo? I need to emulate a tape machine as closely as possible in this application
    Thanx

i am not sure if this answers this. Your audio is not sounding like a tape machine?
Try inserting an au unit like: Tape delay, Stereo Delay, or Sample delay, which are all within logic.
If you want the full effect place it in the insert. If you want a partial effect send it as a bus.
    I hope this helps.

  • Recording Video and Audio at Same time with simultaneous sync

I want to record a keyboard performance into garageband and at the same time record the playing of that performance with my video camera. Then I want to create a movie using the music from garageband and the video from the camera. I was thinking that if I can sync the video and audio when I'm recording the session, then that part is taken care of. Or, maybe this is easier than I think it is?
Is there a way to do this so that I can use the garageband record performance and have it synced to the video on the camera?
I don't want to use the audio from the video camera because the performance that is captured in Garageband will be much better and I can do editing of the individual notes in GB.
In the end, I just want to make a movie and/or podcast of the performance.
I'm a newbie regarding this, but I did search the forums and couldn't find anything specific. Mostly it was about importing video into GB3 and then syncing new audio. I'll basically have audio and video from the same performance in two separate locations and I want to bring them together perfectly in Garageband.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Okay. I got the video and audio all together. I told you I'd link to it when it was up.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxssYpUNJm8
There's also a copy of it at http://www.myspace.com/bonjimmy/
And as a quick side comment, even though I uploaded the same video to both YouTube and MySpace, the MySpace version is much better. YouTube must do something to the video after it's uploaded.
What I learned doing this project:
I recorded the video first (which gave me the sequencing of the piano performance) and then I dubbed the audio in later. However, there wasn't a good way to sync the video and the prerecorded piano, so there are some spots where the dubbed audio vocal isn't accurate to the video. I'm not sure what the pros do for this. I was hoping I'd remember how I sang for the video but when a couple weeks go by before re-doing the audio, it's about impossible. I tried, though.
I remember working with an old 4-track and smpte to a sequencer a long time ago. With the way it is now, it's pretty cool that you can record digitally and mix and match and everything falls together perfectly as long as you have a place to match the video and the audio. It's pretty cool.
    What else???
Does anyone have suggestions that would have made it better? Also, if you have suggestions on my performance or whatever, I'd love comments, but you can do that on the linked page.
Thanks again for all your help. (The point of the video is because I'm thinking about getting back out there and doing some more playing... I'm looking for a band or something else interesting...)

You have two basic options. One is to use a commercial screen recording app with access to system audio built into the app and the other is to add a system extension like SoundFlower that allows the QT X screen recorder to access/record the system audio. I use the former so I am not that familiar with SoundFlower but there should be several posts to this forum covering this topic.

  • USB/Firewire Interface for MIDI and audio (Garage Band)

I want to connect a Roland Handsonic (electronic drum) and Shure microphone to a Mac Pro for recording in Garage Band. What is the best USB/firewire interface for MIDI and audio?
Mac Pro desktop   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you click one of the links you can read all about it in depth.
    three guitarists
That's not what you asked for B-)>
Once you want more than 2 audio inputs, the prices start jumping up dramatically.
would this be the best interface to use?
If you really want "Best" then it's a simple answer:

  • Logic i/o midi AND audio?

im trying to use the Logic i/o plug in , not sue if im doing it right?
I have a sound module thats going into my 828mk2 inputs (11&12) and midi set up.
I can play the module fine from Logic but i thought that when you used the i/o plug in you could set up ONE track to use (like a internal plug in) that became the midi and the audio in order to record the track?
Do i have to record on a MIDI track the part from the module and then use a different audio track to capture it?
Im sure once i used a instrument track with the i/o on it and it became a midi/audio track all in one for outside gear? so i could record/midi all within the one track?
    Am i being stupid?

so how do i use the external instrumnet and the i/o together?
External instrument on the instrument slot on a software instrument channel. This handles both MIDI and audio routing. What do you want to use the I/O plugin for? If you want to route to external hardware, then put the I/O plugin on one of the FX inserts on that software instrument channel.
Can i make my hardware become like a VST? and if using both utilities can i render a file to audio like i can a vst?
No, you have to record it in the conventional way.
or does it have to be real-time bounce only?
Yes, external instruments have to be played in real-time. Logic cannot yet speed up the universe to perform faster than realtime bounces - at least, not in Logic 8...
