Can't recover all contacts from old address book

My ibook was dying so I dragged everything over to an external hard drive. The guy at the Apple store assured me this would back up everything other than the applications. Now I have a new hard drive in my computer and can't for the life of me figure out how to get all of my addresses imported into my address book. I've tried replacing the "Address Book" folder in Application Support (there was no such folder on my new hard drive) and tried importing from Address Book but it has all of the "plist"s greyed out. Now I read about doing a separate process for backing up your address book but I didnt do this. Can I still recover my old addresses since I have a backup of the old drive in its entirety? Please help!

With Mavericks you won't get the Info tab, you use iCloud to sync contacts - from http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12117 :
If you use OS X Mavericks v.10.9 or later, your contacts, calendars, and other info are updated on your computers and iOS devices via iCloud. For more information, see iCloud Help at icloud.com.

How do I import my contacts from old address book on MacBkPro Snow Leopard into new MacBk Pro Lion (on MacBkPro Retina). I can see the "AddressBook" file on the old HD (extracted from old machine--which died) and have a copy of that file on to desktop of new machine. [Copied from old HD: Users/home/Library/Application Support/Address Book]. There is an Address Book in the same location on the "MacIntosh HD" of the new machine, but some of the files in that (new) folder have different names. Risky to simply over-ride this. What should I do?

My mistake - my groups are there! They transferred perfectly. Still getting used to my wonderful new machine. Sorry to bother you!

Lost of all contacts from my address book and my iPhone

I need help please.
I was syncing my iphone today and I realized later on after I plugged off the iphone that I have lost all my contacts on the phone and the address book on my macbook pro.
I want to know how can I get back my contacts either through the iphone or the macbook pro.

When you sync an iPhone w/ itunes, iTunes automatically creates a backup. Thus, I would recommend doing a Restore from the most recent back-up.
Moreover, when you connect ur iPhone to iTunes, make sure you DONT allow iTunes to back-up again. Otherwise, the back-up will overwrite the previous one

I have just fired up a new ipad, and am not getting the "info" tab in the bar, so I can't sync my contacts from my address book on my macBook Pro ... ??

Any clues as to how I can get this happening, and sync all my data that I can sync to my iPhone ? I don't seem to be getting all the faclilities I am suppopsed to ... most frustrating.

I have an iphone4 and i can only hear calls when i use speakerphone. I'm trying a master reset but how do i back up my contacts from my address book??

I have an iphone4 and I can only hear calls when I put them on speakerphone. The people I'm on the phone with can hear me I just cant hear them. I am about to try a master reset but how do i backup my contacts from my address book? Does itunes do that when i backed up the rest of the stuff on my phone?

Back it up in iTunes! Just make a backup of the entire device but make sure you check sync contacts and the option to add contacts from phone to address book on computer.

HT2486 can I print out the contact info for all contacts in my address book?

I haven't found anything on support to determine if I can just take a group with 10 contacts from my address book and print it out like a CSV file or just a plank page.
Any suggestions if this can be done?

To print out a group, select the group name of the contacts or select them holding down the Command key and clicking on each name. Then Addressbook > File > Print > click the Show details button > select the items below in the dialog box > select the fields to print > print or print to PDF.

Can't phone all contacts from Mac with Yosemite.

I can't phone all contacts from my Mac with Yosemite. Some of the audio icons are greyed out. Any solutions?

I'm assuming you want to transfer all your contacts between sim and phone memory all at once.
to do this, go to contacts on your phone then select "options", then select "Mark\Unmark". You then get a little side menu. in this side menu select "Mark All". all you phone contact should now have ticks next to them. Now Press "Options" again and now you should have the option to "Copy to sim Directory". and from sim to phone do this in reverse.

Please i need help. I can't move all contacts from my Nokia 6600 phone memory to SIM or from SIM to phone memory at a time like i used to do with my former Nokia 6810. Does anybody know how to do this?

HT1692 When I delete a contact from my address book, why does their name appear when I'm scrolling through names to text?

I have deleted several contacts from my address book. However, when I type "d" for example to select a contact for text messaging, the deleted contacts still appear in the list! How can I solve this?

This has to do with this information being held in a separate cache in the phone. There are two choices here. You can restore the phone as a new device, which is the only true way to remove this cache; or you can wait until the information is overwritten in the cache, and no one has been able to describe how long that takes, so I would say the only way to really do it is the restore as new, and not from a backup. This will delete all of your data and you will need to sync data back individually.

How to make an appointment with a contact from the address book directly to iCal

What is the easiest way to make an appointment with a contact from the address book. My idea is that once you identify a contact down the bottom where it has Text message Share contact, add to favorites it would be nice if it had make appointment in iCal. The open up iCal to todays date and go from there with all the relevant details?

I don't believe there's much you can do about it...have a look at the "More Like This" pane on the right side of this page.
One way though to eliminate the issue (although not a very good way) is to restore the phone as new.

About once a month I delete all my Yahoo contacts and upload a new file. (That may sound crazy but I do it from a master file (a database) both to Yahoo and Lotus Notes and blackberry via Notes. Only takes a few moments. Works for me.)
When I do this with my iphone it's duplicating some contacts, not a whole lot, but some - maybe 3%. I have reset the sync history before doing this.
So, any way to wipe the slate clean on the iphone and force a one way refresh?

Please check you contact name in the device and verify if the names does not start with none alphabetic characters (e.g. @, &, *, etc). This characters will actually stop the sync process and will not be able to successfully complete the transfer of data. Do the same thing with the contact data you have online just to be sure..
If that it still doesn't work, delete your Google account on the device, restart, and then recreate the same account.

Thanks for the reply Julian, but I tried that and the only cards that show up in that "contacts" folder are the ones that come with the iPod: ipodcreatedsample.vcf and 2 others.
I brought this to the genius bar at my local Apple store, and they couldn't figure out how to do it, so this one is definitely a challenge. The genius bar advice was: "try to find a solution online." Aaack.
