Can't redeem Apple Store gift card to buy iTunes card

I understand that this is the iTunes Store forum and I apologize in advance for posting here.  For lack of an Apple Store forum I am kind of forced to post here.
I want to buy an iTunes gift card using my Apple Store gift cards.  When I go to checkout, there doesn't appear to be any way to redeem my gift cards...?  I can pay with a credit/debit card and there is a promo code option only.  How is this supposed to work?  Thanks

Thanks ed2345, but I actually was trying to buy an ipad Air 2 along with the iTunes gift cards.  There doesn't seem to be an option to redeem gift cards on the payment screen...?

If you do a separate transaction for the iPad, will it accept the card redemption?

    I can't see anything in the app that lets you redeem a card (though I haven't tried buying anything to see if it shows an option during the buying process), and the page for how to redeem them doesn't mention the app : http://store.apple.com/us/accessories/giftcards/redeem

    The email was sent to my secondary mail account. This account does not have an open iTunes account and I would like to keep it that way. I would like to use the apple giftcard on my primary account.

    I know that I can do that. I don't feel like spending any of my money or going and buying another card. I also doubt that im ever going to need more than 50 bucks on itunes. Im asking for a solution that doesnt require much effort, nor money, nor time. Also most stores sell iTunes gift cards, not just apple stores. And I do have a credit card... but thats beside the point.

    An Apple Store gift card can only be used to buy at an Apple Store, not in iTunes Store. If the card comes with a key, you can try redeeming it in the iTunes Store in case it is an iTunes gift card.

    You can't from Apple, they don't let you buy iTunes gift cards with an Apple Store gift card. You could see if a different store in your country might let you (though they possibly won't), or try selling the card to somebody e.g. family, friend, eBay etc

    Hey Carterc25, I have been dealing with the same issue this morning... I've talked to the senior adviser of Applecare and "Bruce" told me the only way to convert apple gift card to itunes is by physically going to an Apple Retail Store and buy an Itunes gift card. Many people don't understand the difference between "apple" and "itunes" in gift cards so it is only obvious more people will fall victim to scheme. My advice is DO NOT BUY APPLE GIFT CARD.
    Another reason to ditch Apple and be a Microsoft customer. #Microsoftisbetterthanapple

    From what I see and from my experiment in the U.S, online Apple Store, I would say that yes you can. iTunes gift cards are sold in the Apple Online store and Apple Store gift cards are an accepted form of payment on the store, so that means to me that it is possible.
