Can't register macbook air

Hi, I just purchased a macbook air through an auction site, it is brand new, fresh out of the box.  My problem is that I cant register my laptop because I don't have the original purchase date.  I wanted to register it so I can purchase the extended warranty.  Any way it can be done without the original purchase date?

  • IMac can see my Macbook Air but not my Macbook

Recently upgraded iMac and Macbook to 10.5.8, Macbook Air running 10.5.7
Both laptops connected to iMac via Netgear wireless router.
    All was fine until yesterday.
Now my iMac can't see the Macbook but can see the Macbook Air when I go to Finder/Network on the iMac.
Curiously, the Macbook and the Macbook Air can both see the iMac when I go to Finder/Network on the two laptops.
Have unplugged the wireless router from the mains for five mins to reboot it.
Can confirm that Security/Firewall on the Macbook is set to "Allow All Incoming Connections"
    Anyone any suggestions???

Your Macbook Air does have Bluetooth on it... so I would assume so.
Not idea what you are trying to do though, so can't be sure.

  • Is there any way to find out if an apple store can replace a macbook air battery whilst you are there before you go there?

My MacBook Air has come up with the Service Battery warning and isn't holding charge as well as it used to.  I expect the battery needs replacing.
How do I find out if an applestore can replace it there and then?
I've been told I need to go online to book a genius appointment, and online the nearest apple store is one that can service macbook air laptops.  However, when I go online and select book genius appointment for mac at this applestore it says "There are no available appointments at this store".
When I speak to apple on the phone, I am told, it is not possible to tell me on the phone whether apple stores have spare batteries or not for my macbook air.
On Tuesday I may have time to go to this apple store (Liverpool) without a genius appointment, but not to the next city (Manchester Trafford Centre).  When I look for appointments at the Trafford Centre, the only available slot in the next 7 days is on Friday which I cannot do as I am not in the country.  It is not possible to book further forward.
So, I really don't want to be going on a wild goose chase trying to find somewhere that can provide and fit a new battery.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated as to how I can get a new battery fitted for my macbook air as soon as possible.
As this is not a rant or complaint (my previous post was removed), I also would like to clearly provide the same constructive criticism as included in my previous post.  When the problem "Service Battery" is highlighted by the laptop, in this "connected world" we live in, I think excellent customer service would be being able to book a genius appointment from your laptop with 1 or 2 clicks and also to be able to buy and reserve a battery to be fitted there and then.
As my macbook air is critical for my work and I used it 7 days a week, I really need to be able to replace on applecare customer service to fix this.  Thanks.

call them, tell them you NEED a new battery installed, and they need to tell you when they can do it.  That is their job to help you! Give pushback if necessary.

  • Can mid 2011 macbook air use early 2011 macbook pro's RAM?

I just upgraded my macbook pro's ram from 4gb to 8gb.
Can I put my stock early 2011 mbp's ram into a mid 2011 macbook air?

No. The MacBook Air's RAM isn't upgradable, except when configuring a model in the online Apple Store.

  • Can I use macbook air for ios app development?

I would like to know if i can use macbook air for ios app development or macbook pro is only option?

Just to reinforce what shldr2thewheel says - be very sure what size memory you want if you get a Macbook Air. There is *no* way to change after purchase. My advice is to go for the 4GB option - especially if you want to do app development.
The internal storage (solid state drive) of the Air can be upgraded if required but it will probably be an expensive option. If you don't think the storage will be enough then maybe using a USB connected drive to hold non-essential files is an option.
As to deciding between the Air and Pro you are basically making a decision between portability (Air) and expandability/bigger screens (Pro). What is more important to you?

  • How do you close a finder window on an iMac running Mountain Lion by double clicking on the top of the window like I can on my Macbook Air?

When I bought my Macbook Air in 2011, ( leopard on purchase - now mountain lion) I discovered how to close open Finder windows by double clicking at the top of the window. I have just bought an iMac (mountain lion) and for the life of me cant find out how to do the same. Finder preferences are no help. Can anyone out there be of some?
    Thanks in advance

I know what you are referring to. In both cases, the window is minimized, but on your MacBook Air, your Finder window is minimized onto the Finder icon, and on the iMac, on the right side of the Dock.
To change this on your iMac, open System Preferences > Dock, and mark "Minimize windows into application icon"

  • Can't connect MacBook Air to iCloud?

I just upgraded to Yosemite yesterday, and since then I've had extreme difficulty using any application that either involves iCloud, or any sort of password prompt.  Most noticeably the App Store and iTunes crash basically every time I try to open them.  I can't even log into Spotify, which as far as I know is not affiliated with the cloud in any way.  I was thinking it might be a web connectivity issue but I'm able to use Google Chrome just fine (albeit with a noticeable amount of lag in comparison to Mavericks.)  So, I'm at a loss for what to do, and without many options to do it, as I have foolishly neglected to even touch my Time Machine for the duration of my ownership of this computer.  Thanks for your help!
    Specs:

Processor 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory 2 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 288 MB

    Try:
    - Resetting the iPOd. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Pwer off and then back on yur router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reet Network Settings
    - iPhone and iPod touch: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

  • Can you connect MacBook Air (2010) to Dell Display S2440L?

Hi, I have a MacBook Air from mid 2010, uses an HDMI to mini display port cable.  I am trying to use a new Dell Display S244OL but it just flashes that it is going to go into power saving mode.  Is there something I can do to make it work?

You would need to consult with B&W on that one, as it's not an Apple product and they would know it capabilities best you should right to the source.

  • Can't start MacBook Air––wheel turns around forever

I had my MacBook Air A Rev C 1.86GHz 120 GB powered on and on sleep for about a week. I was using my other MacBook Air and so left this MBA on sleep.
I decided to use the older MacBook Rev C Air again and I tried connecting the ethernet cable to it. The internet connection didn't work, so I restarted the computer thinking it might help.
However, the computer DOES kind of start and I get the apple logo and the light gray background but the wheel goes on forever, for 30 minutes.
When I tried Option-Start, I was able to get into the Windows partition fine, but when I tried Option-Start and selected Mac, I have the same problem––the gray screen and the wheel thing under the Apple logo going around for a while.
I never had any major problems with the computer in the past, and I never had this problem of starting the computer. It was a bit sluggish––would take 3 minutes to start up, but never as long as this. I have tried rebooting several times and it still does not work.
I should tell you that I pressed the "Shut Down" button for five seconds to shut down the computer.
Do you think that caused it?
How can I get the Mac OS back?
Once again, getting into Windows Bootcamp is fine, it's just the Mac part I can't access.
I have the hard drive saved on a backup.
Should I try reinstalling the OS? And do a clean install? And then put all the information back onto the computer using the backup drive?
Just checking here before I try that because that solution takes time.

I went into Bootcamp (Windows XP Prof) and looked at the Macintosh HD drive. I got 97.8 GB total size and then 425 MB free space.
Something happened when I connected the ethernet cord to the USB port and then connected the router. It mucked up my computer and swallowed up GB. I had about 10 GB spare before this happened.
That is probably why the computer can't start up and is stuck at the gray screen with the whirly thing going around forever––there is no disk space for it use its start programs.
I don't know how to clear the unwanted Gigabytes because I can only see Mac HD from Bootcamp.
    Any suggestions?

  • Can a new MacBook Air help me get back into DJing?

    Hello,
I currently have a mid-2010 MBP 15" (entry level) and plan on replacing it. Do not need a graphic card as such, but I do play Second Life from time to time. I mainly need my comp to get back into DJing and do basic stuff. I am not a gamer and I do not use photoshop... The config I am looking into is:
    MBAir 13", i7, 8GB RAM, 512 Flash storage.
    Cheers!

I don't believe the "Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive" is advertised to work with anything except a MacBook Air or a Mac Mini.
According to a MacWorld article, the reason that it won't work on other models is not a hardware issue, but a Mac OS X one.  The MacWorld column described modifying a kernel extension file (dicey; a good way to make your Mac non-bootable if you mess it up); readers suggested a method that involved modifying only property list files.'
I'm not sure I believe that it is just a software issue, or a "what is Apple willing to test and support?" one.  At the very end of the page, someone reported seeing "Extra Operating Current (mA): 600" in a USB device tree report.
I think this drive can draw more than the standard amount of power for a USB port.  The USB ports on the MacBook Air  (and now on the versions of the Mini that lack internal optical drives) have probably been designed with that in mind.  The USB ports on the other Macs may only be supplying standard amounts of power, which might (educated guess) be insufficient for some operations (like burning DVDs).

  • Can using my Macbook Air (2014 13") while charging harm by battery?

I have Macbook Air 13inch. I want to know if I can use it while charging and what's better for the battery, charging it to 100% and unplugging or using it while it's connected to the electricity? I read something that it's not good for the battery. If it's possible can you please tell me what I should do for better battery life?

You certainly can use your MBA while it is charging.  There will be no adverse affect on the battery.
Here are some Apple support articles on batteries and charging which you may find useful:
